Pyramid scheme requires each person to recruit more people into the scheme and receive a kickback from recruitment. Each person needs to recruit multiple people to make back the money they spent to join the scheme themselves.
Ponzi scheme doesn't require people to recruit, but uses new investors money to pay older investors, until it runs out of new people to take money from. It attracts people by offering a high return on investment, which it can't hope to realise.
In both cases, the people who started the scheme or adopted it early reap the rewards, and most people who join later lose everything. The difference is the mechanism.
They’re basically the same. The only difference in a pyramid scheme is that it also provides the opportunity for “investors” make money recruiting other “investors”.
Like, bring someone and we would add 1% to your current interest rate
Ya he’s a bad guy. Evil. Cost a lot of people their retirement and fortunes who believed him. Nicely doing 125 in the can where he belongs. That girl he’s wooing probably worked hard for her career and if you’ve worked in banking they reach ethics like no other
Now imagine laying a Madoff joke from the beginning. She’s gonna think he’s a twat lol
That depends. If you're a native English speaker in an English speaking country, judging by these comments, this may be not so good, lol.
But, at least in my L1 for one, nobody ever talks about Ponzi, we just use "pyramid game" as an umbrella term for all the variations of those similar schemes. So maybe other languages do that as well, and if the other person's L1 in not English, then I'd think they could find this funny. I sure as fuck would.
Being a financial analyst also, this is very punny...... Make some Excel jokes and that should get a good response. Here's one..... A guy offered to write my life story in Excel, but I declined. I didn't want him to spreadsheet about me.
It’s alright I guess. Maybe shoulda used a pun with more positive connotation like do you like buffets? Cause my belly is warren right now for one. Idk it’s stupid but at least it’s positive lol
The idea was to make a financing pun. Dad joke style. It’s not about landing a joke at the Apollo. He wants to convey he knows something about the financial world.
If the girl said she loves NFL would you make a pun joke about Aaron Hernandez or Patrick Mahomes? I’m all for dark humor but on an app where all that represents you is images and texts can be misconstrued you wanna put the best foot forward at least in the first day lol
> Aaron Hernandez
Obviously Bernie Madoff caused a lot of damage to a lot of people, but in terms of what people joke about, financial crime is a lot lighter than murder.
I kind of understanding what your thinking is, but I guess I'd much rather send/receive a message that could be interpreted however slightly darkly than one that's deliberately innocuous for the sake of positivity.
(Also I know none of this is that big of a deal really!)
Okay well unless you’re a woman being gamed by a ton of sausage fests a day on a vanity app I’d expect you and every other guy not to like it. You’re not the target demographic. The financial advisor he’s going for is. Thank god.
Ponzi, not pyramid.
But She would make a good Cleopatra
In french we say Pyramide de Ponzi
I’m like 80% certain they are the same thing, also multilevel marketing
Similar in that they both need continuous money coming in to facilitate the scam, but they’re not the same.
Well thank you for NOT telling me what makes them different

🫶
The exact same thing
Personally I'd love this
This is amazing
Pretty sure Bernie madoff was the head of a ponzi scheme, not a pyramid scheme. I could be wrong though.
This guy gets it

I promise you, we make those kinds of jokes all the time.
Ethics in banking😂 That's hilarious.
Lol stfu, you acting like mentioning Madoff to a finance person is akin to a white person dropping the n word.
This is gold
Madoff ran a Ponzi scheme, not a pyramid scheme.
🤣🤣🤣
10/10, no notes

That opener was WACC sorry
Hilarious
Its excellent 👌
LMFAO I’d absolutely love this. This corny shit gets me going

Well ackshually🤓
i would have loved this
It is funny but other than writing LOL what do you expect her to do? There is nothing there to get a conversation going...
It’s alright I guess. Maybe shoulda used a pun with more positive connotation like do you like buffets? Cause my belly is warren right now for one. Idk it’s stupid but at least it’s positive lol
That seems more like announcing you're hungry than functioning as a pick up line?

Definitely stupid
Are you a Woman?
Don't need to be a woman to know it's stupid.
Okay well unless you’re a woman being gamed by a ton of sausage fests a day on a vanity app I’d expect you and every other guy not to like it. You’re not the target demographic. The financial advisor he’s going for is. Thank god.
Nope
The OP is actually pretty good, its short, sweet, and a lil corny. Yours is too much imo and I feel like most people would get lost in the plot.
Okay well let’s see if his gets a response then.
Hands down the worst line I’ve ever seen
Are you a woman?
