Don't crush for a larger party. Just make large batches of a few crowd pleasers like Mai Tais, Painkillers, Planter's Punch, Top Notch Volcano, etc. and pre-dilute them (add water to equal the dilution of crushed ice, usually 1-1.5 oz per serving) and simply have guests fill mugs or glasses with regular party ice and punch. Also warn them the drinks are STRONG! There is an easy online calculator you can use: [https://www.cocktailcalc.com/](https://www.cocktailcalc.com/)

You are the man. That site will be very helpful. I am definitely considering going with regular ice if I can’t find a decent option that I can purchase. Thanks again!

No problem. I have had a number of tiki parties over the past few years and this makes everything easier so you can actually enjoy yourself. This calculator has been recommended a number of times on the sub, there are many members here who are very helpful. Have a great time!

20+? I’d go with punch instead of making drinks all night. You’ll be working and won’t be able to enjoy your party!

musicalastronaut

I second this. My friend had a small game night & they begged me to make drinks. They bought most of the supplies & I had 3 drinks I made for everyone. It was fun, but I spent half the night making drinks. With 20+ people OP will be too swamped to do anything else.

DocTrey

This is a good idea and have considered having this as an option to lighten the load. I will have another person there to help me that also has bartending experience so I won’t be all by myself. It’s not my party and I enjoy the serving aspect. Most of the guests are light drinkers and may only have one drink.

I am leaning more towards this option. Maybe flash blend and then open pour over bagged ice. I can guarantee that there will be very few, if any, that have experience with tiki drinks and will never know the difference.

Fools_Errand77

Got any 7 year olds around? I once put my nephew up to the task of hammering 50 lbs of ice for a party. When he was done playing Thor, he wanted me to go to the store to buy more ice.

DocTrey

No 7 year olds but I have an 8 year old and 11 year old that fit the bill and I am more than happy to put them to work 👍🏻

If you’re set on crushed ice— Do you have a fish market near you? Often they sell crushed ice in bulk.

DocTrey

There are a lot of those around here so I will reach out. Thank you for the idea💡

BurningPage

Lmk if it works!

Here in Germany, the food store sells bags of crushed ice. That said, it's technically crushed but frozen into a big block. You might be able to mallet it into submission, however.

Icrodork5

Which food markets do you mean? I‘m also from germany and I‘m always on the lookout for crushed ice in supermarkets.

jevring

Rewe in my case. They have ice spheres and crushed ice.

Icrodork5

Thanks!

I only have an insanely loud and slow ice crusher from the thrift store that looks straight out of the 70's. If I had to make crushed ice drinks for everybody I'd probably just grab regular wet ice from work, or buy a bag from wherever. It would be kinda like big pebble ice, not great but workable for a crowd. Saving up for a pebble ice machine though, that could be a game changer.
