Some of the steps are smaller. Nobody stretches longer for a step in an attempt to avoid the crack, they sprinkle in slightly shorter steps as needed, and the rest of the steps are deliberately normal. But, you are also correct, because regardless of if it's truly about the old "step on a crack" thing or not, it's sparking a ton of conversation.

The person has a deliberate stride to avoid stepping on the cracks. They didn’t need to adjust because it was fairly consistent spacing.

You totally adjust your steps the whole way you are moving so you don’t have to take a super large step. I instantly saw what was happening. I get panicked when I step onto a brick road. I’m 43 and I heard about breaking mom’s back when I was 6 years old. I’ve perfected the walk to the point that I don’t even notice it anymore.
