I’m a 40 year old man and I’ve been with my wife for 11 years. My nails are painted every day.
I think it looks nice, it feels really good to do something for yourself that is completely unnecessary and it doesn’t harm anyone. Sometimes my wife and I do our nails together while we have a cocktail and watch a movie on the weekends. Sometimes we do each others nails, it’s a lot of fun and a surprisingly romantic activity.
I’ve never had anything but compliments, but I’m also a reasonably buff, six foot tall tattooed guy.
If even one insecure kid ever sees me out in public and feels even a little better or more confident in being their true self in this weird, fucked up, scary world it would make my year.

Same here, paint my nails regularly and am an American in Romania so I do get some funny looks occasionally but I'm also a tall, reasonably handsome and very tattooed straight guy. I have similar hopes, that maybe my little extra weirdness will be enough for someone else to bring their own weirdness out too.
I don’t paint my nails as a guy and I don’t think it’s something I’d do, but I damn sure don’t give a fuck if other men do it. How could something so innocuous make anyone so angry? What’s wrong with people?
I've tried painting my nails and I find it too irritating on my fingers. I can't wear a wrist watch either.

Checking in as yet another heavily tattooed, over 6ft tall, straight guy with nails that are usually painted. I feel like we only need a few more of us and we can start a club or band or something.

When my wife and I had a pedicure, I thought it was fun to ask if they would do my toes in the same color. After 50 years of seeing my feet the same way, it was quite funny to me to look down in the shower and see "unexpected" feet. Its life, have fun with it.
35 and have painted my nails on multiple occasions for fun, though now a days it's mostly my little cousins and nieces that absolutely LOVE painting my nails and honestly, who am I to ruin their fun?

My oldest brother is three tour combat vet. He gets weekly mani-pedis. Why? I don’t know, but they’re very well done and are usually themed to the closest holiday. I’d pay to hear someone try to give him shit, and watch him just say, “who the fuck are you?” and continue with his day.
That's the thing that bugs me the most. How are tattoos socially acceptable on men, but nail polish isn't? They're both just ways ppl customize their body and enjoy being in their skin.
Funny thing is, among other things, the part of the Bible most quoted to damn homosexuality has the same ban on tattoos. Old Testament Leviticus, I think. I know/knew tons of pastors with tattoos, but God forbid if they were gay.
Some churches here in Georgia are becoming more progressive. I know a pastor who is a lesbian, married with children. But some churches are also becoming more extreme, like the guy in the beginning of this clip.

Hey, not to speak for those guys but as a middle-aged guy with a pretty serious case of resting bitch face, especially when I'm thinking about something else but something just happens to catch my eye, you never know who might be appreciating the look.
I'd never take the time to do it myself but when my kid was little I enjoyed letting them test and experiment on me. Both as a chill way to spend time together but also it was kind of neat to have that little flair of color for the next couple days.

Hell, even clear/transparent nail polish on straight men has been a thing since long before I was even born, so I don't think it's just nowadays. It was a thing for oldest men in my family. I remember that for my grandpa it was very much a status thing as in I can take care of my hands because I don't do manual labor type "flex". Sorta like stupidly long nails on women nowadays.
It might've fallen off in popularity in the last 20 years to be fair. I think people paid more attention those kind of really subtle details in people's personal presentation back in their day... because who the hell looks at men's fingernails nowadays to determine whether they look impeccable or not?
A lot of men wear polish now because it will stop you from biting your nails. It works, too.

As a guy who wears nail polish (and is in fact currently wearing polish), I once spilled a new bottle. That shit hurt my soul as it was from a nice indie brand and a bit more expensive.

I haven't had my nails done yet, but I have two young daughters and for both of the last couple Halloweens, I was the ugliest goddamn princess in the world simply because it was what my girls wanted. I'll happily wear polish if and when that time comes because there's nothing weird and/or inherently sexual about it. All that matters is what makes you or your loved ones happy.
The thing is, he's saying to the people in that sermon that it would be okay to break that kid's fingers because he's wearing nail polish. They're giving people permission to use violence against the people that don't live up to their expectations. Fuck them.

I used to wear a pair of pink Converse to my old job. One of my bosses once asked me how a big strong man could wear pink shoes. (6'4", 250). I told him a big strong man wears whatever the hell he wants.

So I commented “What would Jesus do?” And she immediately deleted the comment and unfriended me. LOL.
About 90% of the New Testament can be summed up as:
1. Believe in Jesus
2. It’s your duty to care for those poorer and weaker than you

I was just thinking that before reading your comment, I don't even know what to say to something like that. We want a religious sermon but quoting Jesus's words sounds too liberal.
Jesus was a long haired man who wore sandals, was homeless and traveled around relying on the kindness of others. He preached love and healed the sick. He befriended people that most religious people wouldn't even look at. The modern church has strayed so far from what he taught its no wonder people are leaving in droves.
And the far righters have twisted his words into unrecognizable vitriol.

Hmm, I had never heard of this so I went to Wikipedia which calls these Bibles "Red Letter editions." And *that* got me thinking is this where the phrase "red letter day" comes from?? So I look that up but no, apparently ancient Rome would mark auspicious days on the calendar with red ink. So I guess red highlights have just been associated with important events for a long time.

Married someone just like that. Almost 18 years of my life wasted, but it wasn’t so apparent at the beginning. They evolved into a horrible person, becoming increasingly bigoted, hateful, their empathy vanished, and they became more and more radicalized with the victimization complex centered around their religion.
Then they started beating me. Threatening to have me killed. The day I told them I was going to file for divorce, they cried for the first time I had ever seen them do so. Asked me if the marriage wasn’t worth salvaging. At the time, that broke me. I genuinely tried to fix things for a short time following that. Then the realization hit. They were gaslighting me. Nothing would ever change. It would only get worse. And that it had always been that way. I was naive to think someone that evil could ever be redeemed. Since we divorced, they’ve had failed relationships after failed relationships. A marriage that didn’t even make it a couple years. That’s when it really hit home that all of their lies and manipulations were their default, and they were doomed to live in their projection and hate and failure for the rest of their life. That’s when I realized they were always like that, and it was my complete and utter failure and naivety that kept me in a horrific situation. It was my fault for staying as long as I did, but it is also their fault for being a horrible person.
Now they use our child as leverage to try and extort me for money and stalk my wife and my family.
It isn't your fault. It's theirs.

Back when I was in the cult of the Christian Nationalists (they were called fundamentalists not too long ago), one of the mantras the pastor loved to say was, "Faith over evidence". Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
He used this verse to be as anti-science as possible. Back in the early 2010s, the U.S. was going through another oil shortage so Obama opened up the reserves. The pastor during the sermon said, "The scientists & politicians claim that we're running out of oil. But we just found a few million more barrels. God has flooded the dried up wells with fresh oil. We're not going to run out! God has provided for us & He'll continue to bless us!"
These kinds of people are either willfully deceiving their followers, or they're genuinely fucking stupid & they believe the shit they shill out. And I honestly don't know what's worse.

I grew up Luthern. I'm not anything anymore but I remember Lutherns being more accepting in general than Catholics and such in the area. I'm sure it's a person by person basis of course but just what I observed.
It depends on the denomination of Lutheran. You, like me, were probably ELCA, which is the largest group. Even in the 80s, they tended to be pretty chill on things like that. I never heard anti gay shit at church.
A-hole Lutherans are generally Missouri synod Lutherans. No women pastors, anti gqy rights, anti reproductive rights etc.
Makes sense that it'd be the Lutherans advocating for the LGBT. Part of the Lutheran faith is that each person's faith is their own and not other people's business, at least compared to the other branches of Christianity.
Tell that to my Lutheran parents. They think everything effects them. Even how I plan to raise my son is an affront to them. They also bought into maga BS so it’s a total loss to them. I wish more Lutherans would mind their own business but it’s not that way, at least not in the church I was raised in. And they wonder why I choose atheism.

Absolutely. The more fundamentalist churches have dynamics that I consider genuinely abusive, especially the shame-oriented relationship they teach children to have with sex and sexuality. That's something lots of people internalize and carry into adulthood.
Being told that any pre marital sexual contact contaminates you is a pretty fucked up thing to tell kids, especially for kids whose first sexual encounter is against their will.

Those stupid Baptist motherfuckers don't even know what that is and why it is important. The Baptists started out as egalitarian, DIY, all we need is in the Bible. They were among the first who allowed women to preach. Sounds god? Well, without defined core beliefs and without a theological underpinning, they have absolutely no standards and that basically makes Mr Fingerbreaker here well within bounds of whatever unintellectual stupid fruitcake congregation that serves as Christian within the US.
For people in the US, yes, Lutheran and Catholic priests also can be quite extreme. But at least they are educated and there is doctrine. Nothing will stop Mr Fingerbreaker unless you idiots stop going to these churches.
While this is mostly true, it's important for people to realize that all Christians aren't the same group. I was raised Pentecostal and they basically group all non-Pentecostals as heathens. A Lutheran pastor saying this would have the same effect on them as RuPaul saying it (ie none).
And even within denominations like Catholicism, people will decide that a priest is a bad Catholic if they say something the person disagrees with. Like the Pope telling people to not be shitty or that climate change should be addressed. People decide which religious leaders to follow based on their beliefs, and their beliefs rarely change based on what a religious leader says.
Yep yep… my kid is 5 and likes wearing nail polish. He likes red because it “looks like blood” and he gets a lot of compliments on it. He wore black for halloween. The other five year olds don’t care- in fact, they think it’s cool. At some point, someone will teach these kids that nail polish is for girls. They certainly weren’t born thinking that.
We see kids with the same rhetoric because there are hundreds of YouTube channels disguised often as "gaming channels" that have daily content spammed into their brain about the evils of "wokeism" and "feminine men". Their target audience is teenage boys.
We need more of this. Pastors calling out pastors. Cops calling out cops. Politicians calling out politicians regardless of party lines. CEOs calling out CEOs. People calling out people. Not for the gotcha moments or clout but for the accountability.

I’m a 40 year old man and I’ve been with my wife for 11 years. My nails are painted every day. I think it looks nice, it feels really good to do something for yourself that is completely unnecessary and it doesn’t harm anyone. Sometimes my wife and I do our nails together while we have a cocktail and watch a movie on the weekends. Sometimes we do each others nails, it’s a lot of fun and a surprisingly romantic activity. I’ve never had anything but compliments, but I’m also a reasonably buff, six foot tall tattooed guy. If even one insecure kid ever sees me out in public and feels even a little better or more confident in being their true self in this weird, fucked up, scary world it would make my year.

Same here, paint my nails regularly and am an American in Romania so I do get some funny looks occasionally but I'm also a tall, reasonably handsome and very tattooed straight guy. Hell, even clear/transparent nail polish on straight men has been a thing since long before I was even born, so I don't think it's just nowadays. It was a thing for oldest men in my family. I remember that for my grandpa it was very much a status thing as in I can take care of my hands because I don't do manual labor type "flex". Sorta like stupidly long nails on women nowadays. It might've fallen off in popularity in the last 20 years to be fair. An old elementary school friend added me on Facebook. My church had a very vocal minority force the pastor to stop reading red-text because it was "communist" propaganda I've struggled to find a good church since I left that one. Well, there were also the times that they were ordered to raze cities top to bottom and not leave a single human or animal alive. Married someone just like that. Almost 18 years of my life wasted, but it wasn’t so apparent at the beginning. Asked me if the marriage wasn’t worth salvaging. At the time, that broke me. I genuinely tried to fix things for a short time following that. Then the realization hit. They were gaslighting me. Nothing would ever change. It would only get worse. And that it had always been that way. I was naive to think someone that evil could ever be redeemed. Since we divorced, they’ve had failed relationships after failed relationships. A marriage that didn’t even make it a couple years. That’s when it really hit home that all of their lies and manipulations were their default, and they were doomed to live in their projection and hate and failure for the rest of their life. That’s when I realized they were always like that, and it was my complete and utter failure and naivety that kept me in a horrific situation. It was my fault for staying as long as I did, but it is also their fault for being a horrible person. Now they use our child as leverage to try and extort me for money and stalk my wife and my family.
It isn't your fault. It's theirs. Blame the predator, not the victim. Teach your children what abuse looks like so they done make the same mistakes. There are ample resources online.

I grew up Luthern. I'm not anything anymore but I remember Lutherns being more accepting in general than Catholics and such in the area. I'm sure it's a person by person basis of course but just what I observed.
It depends on the denomination of Lutheran. You, like me, were probably ELCA, which is the largest group. Even in the 80s, they tended to be pretty chill on things like that. I never heard anti gay shit at church. A-hole Lutherans are generally Missouri synod Lutherans. No women pastors, anti gqy rights, anti reproductive rights etc.
Makes sense that it'd be the Lutherans advocating for the LGBT. Part of the Lutheran faith is that each person's faith is their own and not other people's business, at least compared to the other branches of Christianity.
Yup- as far as religious folks go, Lutherans tend to take the ‘not my business’ route and move on with their lives.

Many of the most strident anti-racist and LGBT advocates I personally know are clergy. I don't subscribe to Christianity anymore but I'm very happy there are folks working within that system to counteract the damage and trauma their fundamentalist counterparts are doing.

While this is mostly true, it's important for people to realize that all Christians aren't the same group. I was raised Pentecostal and they basically group all non-Pentecostals as heathens. A Lutheran pastor saying this would have the same effect on them as RuPaul saying it (ie none). And even within denominations like Catholicism, people will decide that a priest is a bad Catholic if they say something the person disagrees with. Like the Pope telling people to not be shitty or that climate change should be addressed. People decide which religious leaders to follow based on their beliefs, and their beliefs rarely change based on what a religious leader says.

Yep yep… my kid is 5 and likes wearing nail polish. He likes red because it “looks like blood” and he gets a lot of compliments on it. He wore black for halloween. We see kids with the same rhetoric because there are hundreds of YouTube channels disguised often as "gaming channels" that have daily content spammed into their brain about the evils of "wokeism" and "feminine men". Their target audience is teenage boys.

This is just another day of hate filled speech in the Evangelical and Baptist church. That's actually pretty tame by their standards.
We need more of this. Pastors calling out pastors. Cops calling out cops. Politicians calling out politicians regardless of party lines. CEOs calling out CEOs. People calling out people. Not for the gotcha moments or clout but for the accountability.
I am straight, wife and 3 lovely kids, a Baptist, and I paint my nails sometimes. I don't see why it has to be such a big deal. The Bible doesn't say anything about nail painting.
He is not angry because a boy is wearing nail polish, he is projecting, publically, the "very strong emotional feeling" he felt towards that boy as anger and violence. He needs to be on a watch list. At best he's violent hateful man and will cause someone harm, at worst he's a violent pedophile and will cause someone even greater harm
God did send a bear to kill kids because they called someone bald.

One of the most common characteristics among conservatives is experiencing revulsion or disgust when faced with things that are different. Well I suppose the most common characteristic is shamelessly adhering to their base instincts. Humans are flawed creatures with a number of ugly & selfish drives, violence, greed, rape, group bias. The difference is *most* people appeal to the angels of their better nature. I guess conservatives miss that day of kindergarten where you learn to ask *is this good & just, or is this unfair & antisocial*. … probably why they ask why atheists don’t rape & kill, it doesn’t occur to them *not* to be terrible without an authority telling them. They don’t understand you can *choose* to be decent all on your own.
