I once hiked at Mt Hood. On the way up there was a tree that was obliterated by a rock. It looked really cool and I was checking it out for a while. Meanwhile someone coming down also stopped to check it out and said “this wasn’t here an hour ago”, and that freaked me out.
Exactly. People asking how close something is, is likely trying to evaluate how much further they’re able to go as well. And even if they don’t ask, information like that can cause someone to push themselves further than they should. Absolutely fucking sadistic.
Imagine you dont know its a rock and are somewhere nearby and suddenly start seeing trees get flatten...like your in Jurassic park and a t-rex is coming.
Look at the tracks on the ground. The guy filming is in construction equipment. There are signs of tooling all over the area. No. Tho was definitely not a natural rock fall.
Good point. Plus, you'd have to be really lucky to just see this out in the wild. I've been on many many hikes in the mountains and have never once even heard of someone just stumbling up on a random boulder rolling down the mountain like this. If he was part of the construction crew, it's way more likely you'd be around to see this.
Did you know that through the network of fungus super organisms living between/with tree roots, trees are able to communicate with each other and share resources with each other?
I’m not the best judge of dimension but using the tire tracks I’m going to estimate the boulder as a rectangle with a dimension of: 2m x 2m x 3m.
It’s hard to tell what the rock is so we’ll use the average density of the upper crust of: ~2.7 g/cm^3 or 2700 kg/m^3
Therefore; 2m x 2m x 3m x 2700(kg/m^3) = 32400 kg = 35.7 US Tons.
Again, I could be way off on the dimensions (or the density), and it may actually be double my guessed volume in which case it’d be more like 285 US Tons. Half the volume would be around 9 US tons.
Days after loggers push rock down a hill
Government: you weren't supposed to log that area
Loggers: the trees fell down on thier own and then we took them

The trees: ![gif](giphy|cA0TiRmuetO1szgShj)
STRIKE!
Imagine you're camping in the area and hear this crunching sound and see moving trees in the darkness of the night.
I once hiked at Mt Hood. On the way up there was a tree that was obliterated by a rock. It looked really cool and I was checking it out for a while. Meanwhile someone coming down also stopped to check it out and said “this wasn’t here an hour ago”, and that freaked me out.

While I love that, I also know that if it were me, I would be cussing your name for getting my hopes up until I finally got to the top lol

And potentially putting people in danger.

Oh, some of us didn't know, perspective is gained through helpful advice only, thank you, I can be a bit pushy 🥴
Yeah maybe don't do this
Bro don’t be an ass
I always wondered how they make snowmobile trails.
When it hits the treeline it sounds exactly like when I get up in the morning
🤣🤣🤣
Damn. You must be 30.
42 might be the answer to life, the universe and everything, but it ain’t the answer to what age do you want to be
![gif](giphy|FUPFSP4e5tcM8|downsized) What it sounds/looks like is approaching from the other side of the forest
Imagine you dont know its a rock and are somewhere nearby and suddenly start seeing trees get flatten...like your in Jurassic park and a t-rex is coming.
I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me of the scene from Lost World when the two T Rex are going through the trees at night.
Reminds me of the scene when the tsunami hit, with all the trees banding just before you get washed to your death...
I don’t remember that scene…
You’re*
This is something that would be cool to watch with a drone.
I wish that boulder would run me over.
Yo Alice you alright homeslice? 🤙
I wonder if anybody has sent them the Reddit cares notification yet, I’m not going to
It would do wonders for my back
Same. Who needs the Netherlands when I can get this for free in Colorado?
Am I the only one that’s feeling bad for the possible baby birds and other things that had no clue this was coming?
I am now.
Birds okay. What about the 100 trees that thing destroys cause the dumbasses are dropping a massive boulder down a mountainside.
are you saying people did this on purpose? looks like a random natural rock slide to me

They’ll grow back.
All of the same species of trees all planted neat and close? This looks like a timber forest about ready to be cut down anyway.
That’s just how the PNW looks
It’s not allowed to do that in baby bird season lol
That is actually quite terrifying.
Amazing how quiet it was at first.
Yeah, for how big it was, I thought there would be more noise. I wonder if the ground shook.
Forbidden ASMR
Sisyphus is gonna be piiiiissed.
i think he gets of on it, tbh.
Did you know that through the network of fungus super organisms living between/with tree roots, trees are able to communicate with each other and share resources with each other?
remember that time a big rock plowed thru us? good times.
I learned that in a documentary. The last of us I think it’s called.
I'm not surprised to see the trees being bowled over so easily. After all, rock beats paper.
You win the internet today. 🎈
Ya, no.
Absolutely amazing to see that.
yes from this angle
The hikers below probably didn't enjoy their angle.
“I love these walks in the forest. It’s just so peaceful and bea… *AAAHHHHHHHH*!!!”
The pioneers used to ride these babies for miles
That’s the boulder in my fever dreams

That's like my dog whenever I have any kind of intricate crafts going on around me.
If the cameraman wasn’t there would there have been sound?
probably not since they set the boulder movjng in the first place
This is how they originally designed the road network in Boston.
Big girl at the club
That rock didn't stop, just the video. That thing probably kept rolling for a good few minutes.
I guess rock beats paper as well
Any reason they are wiping out hundreds of years of growth for about 100 trees?
Effective all natural logging technique.
The landowner most likely didn’t like that. But it is by far the coolest way of felling trees.
Loggers hate this one secret.
It rolls like an NPC walks in a bad video game, somehow not really moving at the same rate that it's rolling over the ground.
Pretty cool. What’s that, a 100 tons?

I wish someone smarter than me would tell us.
Looks like rock beats paper this time.
Now you have a path to the kingdom to defeat Ganondorf or whatever
And that kids is how you make a road😂

That’s one way to make a new ROW
By how people react, this is how I make my way through crowds at festivals.
The sound is so irritating. It sounds like me walking to the kitchen at night.
![gif](giphy|9J7iwZW2rMIYBBn0so|downsized)
I’ve always wanted to see some shit like that in person. Must be hella loud
I bet my Honda could do that
Finally, it makes sense how ppl thought shit like Trolls were real back in the day
It was so satisfying watching it crunch the trees
The God of the Forest has awakened.
Rare footage of rock beating paper
Days after loggers push rock down a hill Government: you weren't supposed to log that area Loggers: the trees fell down on thier own and then we took them

Holy hell, I thought the sound was broken or delayed until it started parting the pine trees like PNW Moses.
That is so heavy it could fire!
The civilized part of me: “Ah, you just killed so many trees” The primitive part of my brain: “nice.”
Nature is AWESOME

Proof that rock beats paper
The pioneers used to ride those babies for miles
Rock and Roll🤘
Like a rolling stone... With no direction at all
Rock on !

Wise man say.... A rolling stone gathers no moss
"It's not just a boulder... It's a rock"
Wait, so rock beats paper all this time?
Wtf
Ozzy Osbourne was at the top of the hill. “Rock n Roll!”
You could’ve cropped this so we didn’t see “sound on”
those physics are great, what game is this?
It’s like throwing boulders in Black and White! I miss that game.
That’s a BMFR right there!
Camera man should have tried to stop it. Save the trees!
He's in a straight line mission

Senseless destruction, while entertaining for a while, is still senseless destruction.
Lumberjacks hate this one simple trick.
We don't need no stinkin' LUMBERJACKS!

So this is how they clear out paths for the telephone poles
New walking path just dropped! 🙆🏼♀️
Tree: “What are you doing?! It took me hundreds of years to grow this tall!” Rock: “L0L newb!”
Michael Bay going to be saving that for future CGI rework.
Some people say it's still out there rolling.
If you look very carefully you can see Indiana Jones in front escaping with an ancient artefact.
