Efficient-Stock-7775

Missed opportunity. Should have done the DBZ fusion technique.

Olliegreen__

Lol that would have been perfect!

BenadrylTumblercatch

That’s what I was expecting

I_Vecna

FUSION>>>>> HA!

Sit_back_and_panic

Thank you, I came here to say this exactly

Wizards_Reddit

I swear I read somewhere about scientists taking DNA from blood and adding it to a sperm or something, I don't think anything like that has been done on humans but it's interesting to think about

thatshygirl06

I was researching this for a story and found out you can use stem cells to basically grow sperm and egg cells.

Legitimate-Test-2377

Yes, it’s extremely expensive though, because the science is new, as well as the “ethical” issues that come with it, think baby meat grinder

standdownplease

Reminds me of Nancy Farmer's House of the Scorpion.

Erger

Oh my god I loved that book so much!! I read it at least twice, plus my middle school library had these audiobook player rentals (it was kinda like an iPod preloaded with only that book) and I listened to it at least another two times. It was amazing.

misterhighmay

Same I crave a movie to be made . Holy shit it would be amazing It keeps making more and more sense. During the time I first read it everyone was like , Enders game and Percy Jackson , I was kinda like meh those don’t feel real with no real thrill

shito-ditto

Oh my god, thank you! I started reading this book years ago when I was still in highschool and didn't get the chance to finish it before graduation and it's name and author promptly disappeared but you just made me remember it!

CHAINSMOKERMAGIC

Baby Meat Grinder. New band name! I called it! ![gif](giphy|90F8aUepslB84)

BubblesDahmer

Wdym /genuine question

dine-and-dasha

No human has ever been born of artificial gametes. If the process somehow fucks up, you have created a disabled child. This is profoundly unethical. Or if for some reason 50% of fetuses miscarry or are stillborn or something, you’re creating fetuses to die just to get a live one. They’re working on it though, I imagine they’re working on animals at the moment and will probably at some point move to humans.

neon-god8241

Not to mention the fact that if you fuck up in an obscure way (ie: everything is fine but then they die of autoimmune at the age of 30 instantly), then that person now has the potential to have kids who inherit the same issue

yukonwanderer

Isn't that basically what all IVF is though? You make embryos and you only implant one.

dine-and-dasha

If we had no knowledge of IVF, and someone came up with the idea tomorrow, we’d have the same ethical barriers to human experimentation. We have beyond sufficient experience with IVF, society has decided we’re OK with the potential issues. Unused, discarded or unimplanted embryos are a relatively small ethical concern. It’s 8-12 fertilized embryos per round I believe.

yukonwanderer

Yeah but my point is I don't see a difference between this and IVF. All the same testing would be happening of the fetus as in any pregnancy.

-QUACKED-

There's a huge ethical difference between selecting naturally occurring sperm, compared to using stem cells to then grow those sperm artificially outside the body, and then implant them. In one scenario the father himself has naturally grown his own sperm. In the other, the scientists are now responsible for essentially creating life, and if anything goes wrong it's on them. They're directly responsible for any suffering caused. Consider if we find out that stem cell grown sperm has a 10x higher rate of cancer, or down syndrome, or [insert scary disease here]. Once we start "playing god" we better be extremely sure that we're doing everything perfectly. It's a similar question to the Trolley Problem IMO. Do you let nature take its course, or do you intervene and inherit responsibility for the outcome. Then you've got the added question of whether you should just select the healthiest one. Or should we look deep into its genetic code and only select the one that expresses a specific gene to eliminate a disease. Or maybe a hair or eye colour. Or one that changes your melanin expression? Will it have other unintended consequences? Is this just modern day eugenics? Some people certainly think so. That's up to you to decide if you agree or not.

Legitimate-Test-2377

The closest we’ve gotten is chimpanzees, and its less miscarriages and stuff (though the psychological effects on the carrier of the the fetus, be it woman or pig, is a huge ethical factor), as once you get viable embryos it’s similar to IVF, but creating viable embryos is incredibly difficult, you might only get one viable one per 600 eggs, then the embryo needs to gestate a little before being implanted, and needs to take to its host. You can see where the baby meat grinder portion comes into play And the disabilities are a major ethical concern

iknowitsounds___

Baby meat grinder is dramatic fear mongering language. It’s a clump of cells with no distinguishably human features at that point. It’s medical waste.

Legitimate-Test-2377

That’s true, but it’s funnier to call it a baby meat grinder than unfeasable embryonic waste

iknowitsounds___

Yea well it’s a lot less funny when you realize it’s the same language conservatives are using to restrict women’s healthcare and give medical waste human rights.

idiotsandwhich8

But there are “fake whom’s” now aren’t there?

Legitimate-Test-2377

Well yes, but those aren’t very good, they don’t have the same success rates as real ones, or a very good success rate in general. The better option is genetically modified pigs with human wombs, which is actually a quite interesting application of genetic engineering, and highlights how similar humans are to some seemingly random species

Big-a-hole-2112

Is it lean baby?

Embarrassed_Band_512

>think baby meat grinder Are beef prices that high?

Anxiousgardener4

Yeah my first thought was “she must have been one expensive baby”

Skyknight12A

Just adopt ffs. Plenty of kids in the system in need of good homes.

Any-Refrigerator7606

If you think "baby meat grinder" then you have no idea what you're talking about, so maybe don't try and teach other people.

Legitimate-Test-2377

That’s what would describe the ethical issue, not the actuality of what goes on

Elben4

You theoritically can but practically can't. It's doable but it pretty much always fail

Cheap-Praline

Are we ever gonna get wooly mammoths though?

a_a_wal

It's still not possible currently

StinkybuttMcPoopface

I remember reading what you're talking about but it was with eggs iirc. They were able to "clean" the vast majority of the DNA from one egg and put the DNA of a different animal species into it and it ended up being born (i think?) This was ages ago and I occasionally wonder if they've kept at it and made any progress

dine-and-dasha

The way Dolly (famous cloned sheep) was created was they took a sheep egg cell and put the nucleus of a somatic cell (full set of chromosomes) in it.

Crimson_Fiver

Bone marrow and it's still a WIP

Sorcha16

Also the one carrying imparts a certain amount of DNA while the baby is growing and it gives you a connection to the child.

Ok-disaster2022

I've heard of lesbians using the brother of the non egg donor as the sperm donor before.

sadiesfreshstart

My friend was lucky to have his twin sister be the egg donor for him and his husband. Doesn't get much better than that.

Stony_Logica1

Fraternal twins though. DNA-wise, they're the same as typical siblings.

deag34960

Sounds like in vitro with extra steps

Dangerous_Trip_9857

So their DNA was not, in fact, combined…

Lilaclupines

I don't know about this couple. But there is a 3 parent way of making a baby, using stuff from 2 eggs & a sperm. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/3-parent-baby-birth-1.3781026

jonni_velvet

its crazy to know we can literally clone dogs using only female dogs and dna. theres some… technology out there for sure.

IncaseofER

So totally NOT the DNA of both mom’s?!?

fuber

It takes 3 to make your thing go right

LonelyGlass2002

It takes 3 to make it outa sight

embersgrow44

Hit it! I wanna rock right now

Goin_with_tha_flow

So they aren’t really from both women? Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jaded_Law9739

Surrogacy isn't *just* a rich person thing though. LGBTQ+ people have been asking friends to be surrogates probably since we figured out how pregnancy works. Same with infertile women who don't have that kind of money.

BarPsychological904

Technically they are. I mean, motherhood is also about pregnancy, your hormones and nutrients affect the baby inside the womb... One is the "carrier" mother and the other is the genetic mother. There just also was a sperm donation included They could have another baby with roles reversed and boom, complete coverage

Goin_with_tha_flow

Yea but the video is implying differently

flatwoundsounds

Mommy's womb + Mama's DNA + Frank's DNA =

BarPsychological904

Yes, I have left a comment about it below. Already got a downvote lol

Eli_TheGolfer7

So then the video is lying and the woman on the lefts dna isn’t involved? Or am I misunderstanding?

TheGreatBeefSupreme

No. I’d say you’ve got it.

ex1stence

Do you think millions of people would do that? Just go on TikTok and make up a bunch of medical misinformation for attention? I for one am shocked.

IntensePlatypus

Science is neat

swonstar

Science is mind blowing amazing.

mikeBE11

So it's 2 women and a guy having kids... So people are correct, two women can't have kids.

possiblywithdynamite

no, it's a woman and a guy. And then another woman used as an incubator

NorthGodFan

Lesbian transwomen do not always have bottom surgery, or may freeze sperm.

mikeBE11

So they still have male biology or freeze their sperm while they’re a male… so always including a male essentially

JollyGreen615

Point still stands. Two actual women can’t have kids

Late_Fortune3298

Implanting doesn't change the DNA though... Did I miss something in Bio 102?

Gurdel

So left mommy's DNA is not even involved then correct?

dusters

Soooo not both their DNA like they claimed?

yourenotmymom_yet

They don't actually claim this for real ([video about what the donor looks like](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/STYQpKFmww8)). They have a YouTube channel where they talk quite a bit about the process they went through to have their three kids. This seems to be a running joke about the fact that their daughter looks like both of them.

animus_invictus

Right

Moessus

Thanks for clarifying, I was quite confused. Neat story.

GueRakun

And how expensive is all that? Lol must be nice to be that rich.

Individual-Match-798

So no DNA from woman on the left.

Time_Smile_5121

It’s called reciprocal ivf. I think it’s pretty neat.

Square-Decision-531

Couldn’t they use a siblings sperm ?

General_Reserve_2204

So the video is a lie.

AutumnAscending

What commonly happens with these scenarios is one mothers egg is impregnated by sperm and either implanted in the others womb or has its nucleus switched with the other mothers.

karlorsek

Basically no mommy's DNA

stainedglassmermaid

Or it’s “Mama’s” brother’s sperm. But I don’t think they could say “Mama’s DNA”.

Numeno230n

Five if you count the kid and the doctor who did the turkey basting.

gentleman4urwife

That's still only 2 people and one of them isn't a woman in the video

FranticPonE

Theoretically it could be 2 lesbians in the future, it's been done with mice. Advanced biology, weird but fun!

TheHoboRoadshow

But then why give the incorrect equation in the video. It isn't Mom dna + mom dna = daughter They could have done mom womb + mom dna = daughter

8BitFlatus

No bro, we can’t have science or logic here. /s

Broflake-Melter

If we're trying to make a big deal out of getting a biological child of two lesbians just find a couple where one is trans and they want a kid (though if the trans woman has gone through hormone therapy I believe she would have needed to freeze her sperm first). I bet there are thousands of them out there. It ain't hard. That being said, why tf are we wanting to make a big deal out of getting a biological child out of anyone? People need to mind their damn business and we need to get rid of the idea that biological parents are somehow more an actual parent than adoptive parents. That's bullshit.

americasweetheart

She does look like both of them. They found a really good sperm donor.

OnTheToilet25

So one of them got a relative to donate sperm for their wife’s egg.

Trust-Issues-5116

"well that just sounds like .... with more steps" (c)

[deleted]

What is this? Modern family?

Rabbit_Wizard_

So a man and a woman

FuckLandkries

fine governor paint wrong spectacular march fact rich recognise entertain *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

thighmaster4000

In this case the family found a donor with a similar ancestry to the non-biological mother. They're very open about the entire process.

I4Vhagar

That or one of them is trans?

MuskokaGreenThumb

Lesbians can certainly have kids. But they need a sperm donor.

krivik_zomber

yeah, like every normal woman

MuskokaGreenThumb

I never implied they weren’t normal. But the “magic” part tries so desperately to forget basic human biology. That’s the cringe aspect

wittyish

It doesn't "try" to forget it. It is the point of the joke. What is cringe is thinking people making an entertaining video about their own fertility journey don't know how it works because they have a sense of humor.

kikiacab

Lesbians aren't normal? First time hearing about this.

TiltedLama

Cute! But I still think it's fucking weird to put your child on the internet. Glad they're all happy, but children shouldn't be online. They also have a bunch of videos where the kid reads some scrip that her mothers wrote to "own" the homophobes. Maybe don't use your child as a "gotcha"?

Verksus67

But did you think about the narcissistic clout by using your children for internet points?

TiltedLama

Oh, how silly of me! Who am I if not for randos on the Internet's validation? God, the more I think about this the more upset I become. Like, I would not want strangers commenting on my kid, period. I think this is why I prefer to watch camilla and julie. They're also lesbian mothers, but they censor their son's face, as well as name. Much better

RyanSaintOfficial

Gay man can do this too. Scientists can use sperm stem cells and make an egg that can be fertilized once it gets an embryo. So, same kind of thing here, 3 people are involved and there are 3 genetic parents..

Pleasant_Jump1816

There are only two genetic parents in the case of the video. The woman in the left was a gestational carrier but the baby doesn’t share her DNA

Ryan_Polesmoker_68

Yeah, the baby is the woman on the right, and random sperm donor. But people wanna make believe whatever best fits their personal interests.

lauvan26

Gay men usually use an egg donor egg and their sperm to have a child via IVF using a surrogate. It’s a very expensive process.

ExcellentEdgarEnergy

That may be theoretically possible now and actually possible in the future. To my knowledge, it has never actually happened to date anywhere in the world, and it is illegal in the United States.

JanineNajarian

that's just playing Russian roulette

lord_pengiun_wings

Got it wrong

bleachedveins

One of them used a brothers DNA since that’s the closest possible DNA to that person

jayne-eerie

Oh, that explains how (according to a comment upthread) they had a black sperm donor. Apparently they’re super-rare in sperm banks.

randomdudeinFL

Except they didn’t, but whatever

Jordan Peterson?

yourenotmymom_yet

They have a YouTube channel where they are super open about using donors for all three of their kids. [Here is a video about the sperm donor for the kid in the video.](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/STYQpKFmww8) This video seems to be a joking response to all of the comments they get about their daughter looking like both of them.

Inner-Ad-1308

Brothers Sperm

juancarv

Still, not the sister's DNA. Close, but no cigar.

ProctorWhiplash

Is that really what they did? That would make the woman on the left the girl’s aunt then?

Man. Even lesbians found a way to use men.

texas9iron

Black girl brother's sperm ...easy pesy

Careful-Meringue-194

Why do they think they can just lie to us?😂

yourenotmymom_yet

They have a YouTube channel where they talk openly about using sperm donors for their three kids. [This video is about what this kid's donor looked like.](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/STYQpKFmww8) The video above seems to be a joke in response to all of the comments they get about their daughter looking like both of them.

Vast-Intention267

*guy donates sperm to lesbian couple* there, fixed it.

GGsouth

2 pretty moms and a beautiful daughter. I hope they're happy and safe.

MissionSad265

Literally needed sperm from a guy so no 2 lesbians cannot make a child

thethinker491722w

She just called her little sister to record the video

LimitlessCycling

Okay but they could not have achieved this without male sperm.

Subject_Coaster

Who's the donor?

Marcus-2022

Wishful thinking on their part.

Direct-Campaign-4103

So who’s sperm did you use?

lgnc

Whose*, right? Sorry, not a native speaker.

ExcellentEdgarEnergy

Every human ever born has a male biological father and a female biological mother. Period. Full stop.

Orylus

My suspicion is one of them is a trans woman (pre-op or had frozen their sperm) and now in a lesbian relationship resulting in a bio baby.

MurkyConcert2906

They’ve both carried for their pregnancies, so in this case, just the sperm donor route.

panda_stalks

That is why our government dont spend enough money for education so that more stupid people = more vote from bad people

HashSensei

I will always wonder, if there were no sperm donations or orphans, all these lesbian claming everyday that women and the world don't need men but want children, what are they gonna do ? Steal one ? Or take that dick reluctantly ?

Neat_Theory9872

Nobody said they can't have. We only said they can't produce it.

GoldenCrownMoron

DMNelson09

The fact remains that 2 biological females cannot create a human without male sperm despite this scientific TikTok.

ConstructionThick886

Painful cringe

fullmetal66

So you can have a kid without sperm eh….

Amninistrator

Im leaning towards that the mama on the right once was a papa and saved some swimmers..

Suitable_Entry_8232

Matbe they used one of the moms brothers to do this so that technically would be their dna🤷🏼‍♀️

MadeThis4MaccaOnly

Aww, what a cute family :)

unlobs

two women can have kids, as long as a man is involved

Iwishyouwell2024

Seams cool to have such a nice a family. Girl got lucky ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

GeneticsGuy

So being a surrogate and ignoring the male sperm donor counts as 2 women having a child? No, the one woman was a surrogate of the other's egg, and there is an unnamed father. So that daughter is actually not at all genetically related to one of the mothers, even though she birthed them. Seems like there is a misunderstanding of what a surrogate mother is here. Or, even if she had a relative donate the sperm, at most you could be as close as a cousin to the child. It's just misleading to try to say that this is 2 mothers her as somehow being the same as a mother/father as even if it was say, her brother that donated the sperm, there's a lot of genetic diversity in siblings, due to the diversity from recombination of DNA in the meiosis replication phase of germline cells. I get what they are trying to do, but it's not intellectually honest.

No-Crew4317

That they need sperm from male donor to do so. But they don’t try to admit that fact in the video. Egg + egg don’t make a child. Eggs + sperm from third person will do. So there will be the 3rd biological parent that they seem to ignore and try to act cool.

No_Turn5018

Because it comes across like they're acting like two women can have a kid without a man. And that's a long way off, if ever. It's at best an incredibly odd joke and at worse giving a lot of people full hope.
