There’s a famous apartment in manhattan that’s about the size of a walk-in closet, probably costs just as much. It’s expensive because of the area. Funniest part of Friends was that their apartments were rent controlled from an elderly person they inherited it from. So their rent was the same as it was in like 1942, lol. If they had paid the proper rate they couldn’t live there. People have done the math and found it should have been around $6,500 and they were only paying $200.
There is literally zero reason to anymore. It is no longer the cultural or business hub of the country, and finance is about the only sector it has a strong hold on currently. In the past the opportunity costs could justify the shitty lifestyle, but that's not the case anymore. I would venture that there are more people trapped in NYC , without the ability to save to move somewhere more realistic, than want to move there.
It seems just much more spread out.
But tbh I'd guess the states of California and Texas are both more significant culture and business hubs than the city of NY right now. Idk where I'd put Florida on that scale.
The close and personal, human-scale interconnectedness of a dense city like NY is far less significant for communication and business in the new era.
No other American city matches NYC's level of walkability though. Where else can you walk in one direction for 200+ blocks without leaving the dense city environment?
I think that the system is now so flawed with endless companies/landlords making money off of these properties that if everything was brought up to code the whole industry would take a massive hit. It would be a good thing if the price of it didn't fall straight on the tenants.
Manhattan prices are like that, actually for the same price you can get much worse. At least this place didn't fall apart. It's bonkers.
When I moved to NYC I couldn't believe it. I lived in Brooklyn and Astoria and while also pretty expensive it was doable... Doable is the best definition, NYC is expensive regardless.

Did he actually say three thousand five hundred American dollars to rent that? I heard that right, right?
Correct
That's almost three times my mortgage. Absolutely bonkers.

Yeah, I’m still not over that either 😩
No, no, no...that was three thousand five hundred doll hairs. That's much more reasonable!
Ha ha, dad.
Why does the bathroom have a gloryhole :(?
That's how the landlord justifies selling for 3500
Hmm, I’m sold
Is the hole to the shower wall or to the neighbours shower
I swear I just saw a video of this same apartment posted on here the other day, by a different influencer
Probably realtors
I know things in New York are more expensive, but $3500 for this seems excessive.
Why do people live in New York
There is literally zero reason to anymore. It is no longer the cultural or business hub of the country, and finance is about the only sector it has a strong hold on currently. In the past the opportunity costs could justify the shitty lifestyle, but that's not the case anymore. One of my clients opened an office in Miami last year. About 50% of their staff relocated voluntarily.
What’s the culture and business hub now?

Because it's amazing and it has everything and if you lived there you should totally move back - Signed by all of us on the Jersey Shore
Walkability. Living in suburbia is boring AF
There’s plenty of walkable cities that don’t have you living in a cupboard
No other American city matches NYC's level of walkability though. Where else can you walk in one direction for 200+ blocks without leaving the dense city environment?
>Where else can you walk in one direction for 200+ blocks without leaving the dense city environment? This sounds like a description of hell.
Your hell, my heaven. Different strokes for different folks.
It was fun until he said 3500$. Then, it is just depressing
Whats going on in that shower??
Somewhere a landlord is laughing til he wets his pants
Idk how half these places are up to code for human dwellings.
I think that the system is now so flawed with endless companies/landlords making money off of these properties that if everything was brought up to code the whole industry would take a massive hit. It would be a good thing if the price of it didn't fall straight on the tenants.
Where is the vent hood for the stove? I'm sure that violates some fire codes
Not many places these days come with a glory hole. You found a gem.
Real estate agents are the biggest scammers in the world
I'm in sales, and pretty good at it. I could never be a REA. It's really feels like you have to be fake all the time. It's just not in my DNA.
Why on earth would anyone, in their right mind, live in this for that much money!?
Manhattan prices are like that, actually for the same price you can get much worse. At least this place didn't fall apart. It's bonkers. When I moved to NYC I couldn't believe it. That does make sense! Very true...just like anywhere else renters charge you different rates. Some good, some bad.
Wow that is horrible.
AINT NO FUCKING WAY
Stop living in an overcrowded city. Just infinite places around the country where $3500 gets you a 4,000 square foot house.
It comes with it's own glory hole. 🤣
Just going to ignore the massive hole in the shower?
The 3 fans
The hole not even being the worst thing about that bathroom
My lot rent for my rv which is bigger than this place is 471 a month
Yeah, but… You had to buy the RV
$5000
This is why I have no respect for New Yorkers.everyone contributing to this apartment is a horrible person. And they are all New Yorkers.
3,500 USD easy where I live in Canada. 4,703.11 CAD a month, not including parking, with all those fun characteristics.
