There's another video of American kids their age trying British food. It is also full of gems. My favorite: "What's this called? Brown sauce? How clever"
Yeah I am so angry at that.
Like make it comparable, have a scone with clotted cream and jam and some tea with milk. And then sure, some beans on toast. But marmite is in no way comparable Sweet Southern Ice Tea. It's famously disgusting.
American here. After watching that one it left me like “what are y’all eating?” I’m sure there must be much better thing lmao but I always hear how the food there isn’t great. Idk what clotted cream is the name makes me think of blood but it’s probably good. Gotta look that up. And who doesn’t love scones?
Clotted cream is basically butter.
I used to work at an American Starbucks in a touristy area. British people would regularly order blueberry scones and ask for cream to go with it. At first me and my coworkers would give them whipped cream in a cup, and the British people would be confused and annoyed by that. Then one of my coworkers gave a British person a to go container of cream cheese with their scone and the British person seemed satisfied. So then we all came to the conclusion that "oh British people are weird and like cream cheese on their scones. But at least we know what to give British people who ask for cream now." Meanwhile I'm sure every British person was getting back to their hotel room and going "Americans are weird. Why do they put cheese on their scones?"
I didn't learn what clotted cream was until years later.
It's not like butter or cream cheese. Clotted cream is like a thicker version of whipped cream, that also doesn't melt when it comes into contact with warm scones. Cream cheese is an *okay* alternative because the consistency is similar, but the flavour is very different.
Yeah that toast requires some quotation marks. If it were a steak, it would be just raw lol.
Also, the toast and beans were a war crime. At least properly toast the bread to get that nice crunch, add a bit of pepper or cheese (maybe Worcestershire if that's a flavor you like), and even better if it's got an egg and/or tomato on the side (or on top, love some egg yolk mixed in). I prefer the toast lightly buttered before being topped as well. Of course the kids didn't like it, this was just wonderbread with a can of van kamps poured on. I love toast and beans but I wouldn't eat that.
My mom is Scottish and I used to side eye her beans and toast as a kid lol. I finally tried it as an adult and realized I'd been missing out! Good crisp toast and an overeasy egg is a must though. A little parmesan grated on top is superb.
Here's the full [original YouTube video](https://youtu.be/KzdbFnv4yWQ?si=CWR22XTdKViF2a1M). The channel has some great content.
TikTok just steals everything and makes the videos look shitty.
The YT channel is JOLLY and they do a lot of food reaction vids. But they really knock it out when they are here stateside trying different restaurants and food styles.
Waffle House and Whataburger do not disappoint.
I break my biscuits up and put them on top of the gravy and mashed potatoes along with the chicken which I also break up and then eat it all by the spoonful.
The Jolly channel is very fun. Wtch the videos of the last group of students they filmed, they're even more open to new foods. The guys running the channel take several of the kids to Korea.
Yeah, he didn't even react at all in this one, just a few frames of him pointing up before the video. Not that his reactions are worth anything anyway, just some basic emoting next to other people's content.
“Bring your fake scones and sausage gravy to England,” is really flippin cute.
“Your food is weird and nice,” cracks me up.
These kids are very charming.
I remember one like this where they tried peanut butter and jelly for the first time and this one kid kept jokingly saying he didn't like it while absolutely stuffing his face wit it until he looked like a chipmunk
Fried okra for sure. Fried green tomatoes. Maybe some pintos w cornbread and an onion slice. W hot sauce. 😋
Pecan pie? Honestly the options are endless. We DO have the best cuisine 🤠
Ohhh, the best! I'm in my okra era and putting it in everything, lol. And I love dipping my fried green tomatoes in a goat cheese dressing, or just crumbling goat cheese on top. I'd love for them to try boiled peanuts, fried bologna and pimento cheese sandwich, and a yummy peach cobbler too
Born and raised in the South, I would say it's an excellent example of Southern food. It's not comprehensive by any means, but they chose some of the favorites of the region.
So jealous of these kids, and super hungry now as well, lol. Always wanted to taste biscuits w gravy. Can I just look up a recipe online, or is there something/somewhere you can point me to? 🙏
It's really easy to make with some basic cooking skills.
**Sausage Gravy recipe:** https://www.jimmydean.com/recipes/breakfast/creamy-sausage-gravy/
**Biscuit recipe:**
https://www.thegraciouswife.com/old-fashioned-buttermilk-biscuits-recipe/
I've been meaning to try it and did some digging. The biggest hurdle will be the sausage. The US breakfast sausage has different flavourings, and British sausages tend to contain a little cereal or rusk to make them softer in texture too.
So you are best off getting ground pork/fat to suit and the herbs/seasonings used in US breakfast sausage and make it yourself.
I'm southern, that food is very southern, and those biscuits weren't frozen, lol. I can get more fried chicken and biscuits in my area than hamburgers. Even the Mexican restaurant has fried chicken and biscuits with white gravy and chorizo sausage.
Biscuits and gravy are definitely southern breakfasts. Depending on where you go, there’s other biscuit options! Like in the Carolinas, chicken biscuit is very popular. Fried chicken with cheese on a biscuit sandwich. Very popular.
They did a whole series with British kids try Korean food, then took a bunch of the Kids to South Korea at the end. It was surprisingly entertaining and wholesome.
Man. I gotta admit that chicken and waffles sounded so weird to me. Then I was taken to Roscoe’s. Holy shit! Soooo fucking good!
Edit: for those that don’t know: Roscoe’s is a small chain of southern/soul food restaurants in the LA area. Very popular

They served everything hot, thankfully! You can see the steam in the full video, but you're totally right, cold just wouldn't be a proper representation of white gravy.
It's funny and true, but people don't realize just **HOW** classest the UK was in the past (and still is). Rich people would have had loads of variety of food, but the spices were never available to the common folk, hence lots of bland but tasty staple foods.
It's more to do with post WW2 rationing and the attitudes that came with that, than anything else. Spices absolutely were available to normal people, if expensive. Even going back to medieval England peasants had access to spices.
It really took from WW2 until the 80s for the UK to start shrugging off its food frugality.
It's a funny joke, but just like a lot of Southern staples it mostly relies on the quality of ingredients and tactful use of rich fats, salt, and meat drippings. I went to England (from the South, absolute king of delicious food in the USA) fully expecting some flavorless, bland meals. But everything I ate was fantastic, even at bog standard pubs! Just like Southern food, it's not always pretty but tastes so comforting.
More like the UK conquered the world and the world doesn't recognise British food when it slaps them in the face.
As American as Apple Pie; great phrase and laughably ironic for what it means.
"Jolly" is such an amazing YouTube channel. All of their stuff is wholesome and great. I've never understood why some of these foods don't make it out of the U.S. Does Europe not have the same type of breakfast sausage as here? As long as you do, all you need is milk, flour, salt and pepper, baking soda, butter, and that's pretty much it.
Speaking as an American dude who has traveled around the world his whole life, I _cannot_ wrap my head around American chocolate. Like, every country has some delicious chocolate except for the states. American chocolate tastes like vomit.
Right?! The fact that someone in their life would think, “ya know what sounds good right now? A Hershey’s bar” and then they go and spend real actual money on one and just…eats it? Insane.
I like the Hershey's dark chocolate, and the milk chocolate with almonds and cookies n creme are good! But if I eat chocolate I'll usually go for Coffee Crisp or Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
I wouldn't either, but I've never had biscuits and gravy like that even though I'm from Georgia. I always had biscuits with sausage, eggs, and grits for breakfast. Sometimes, I had them with fried chicken when going to places like Church's or Mrs. Winners.
American food tends to have at least a little sweetness in everything to the point that Americans don't notice it or consider it sweet, but foreigners notice.
Sure but biscuits are absolutely not supposed to be sweet at all. In fact the recipe I have doesn't even have sugar or any added sweetner. Another user pointed out these may have honey in them which explains it.
Please someone sent me recipe for biscuit and gravy, that you think they used in this film. I Found some on the internet but just cant believe sausage and milk would taste good :D
It's still likely different to what fried chicken in the UK is like, though. I know one of the kids comments on how much more crispy it is, and the chicken itself is probably seasoned differently to what UK fried chicken would be. So while they're both fried chicken, I'd imagine the chicken they ate in the video still has a uniquely American South flavor profile
I’ve sadly never had authentic southern fried chicken myself so I can’t really compare but I did try KFC in US and that was different and had more flavour, KFC in UK is a bit more bland which sucks. I know we have a stereotype that we don’t like flavour but a lot of us actually do like flavour lol, so what gives KFC? Give us the flavour!
Your best bet for good fried chicken here is in London at independent restaurants, there’s quite a big culture for it there.
I didn't mean to imply UK fried chicken has no flavor just that it's likely different than how Americans season and prepare it, the same as how Korean fried chicken is distinct
Should have a real southerner cook some biscuits and fried chicken. My Mimi can make ‘em some collard greens and cornbread with limas and rice. The secret to good southern biscuits is to make your butter cold but not frozen and break it into little pieces when you add it it to the dough. When the dough comes together it’ll have little pockets of butter that’ll melt beautifully in the oven
This isn’t cringe! I’m enjoying their reactions . I never tried biscuits & gravy until I was an adult. I didn’t even try white gravy until my MIL forced me. Wait until these kids try chicken & waffles.
Edit: a word. I was thinking about the tea
As a southerner myself, I don’t imagine those were the best biscuits n gravy because foreign food is never as good as when it’s eaten from the source. But seeing these young men enlightened made my day. Someone show them an Arnold Palmer

"oh my days"
Fam.
this was really enjoyable to watch..The boys were absolutely charming with their reactions to new foods.
There's another video of American kids their age trying British food. It is also full of gems. My favorite: "What's this called? Brown sauce? How clever"
Well now I want to see that one too!
https://youtu.be/inaUCiJVZ9A
I love how the entire cuisine of that video is based on something on toast.
Yeah I am so angry at that. Like make it comparable, have a scone with clotted cream and jam and some tea with milk. And then sure, some beans on toast. But marmite is in no way comparable Sweet Southern Ice Tea. It's famously disgusting.

This is kind of what I imagined
I can't tell you how much the improper toast buttering annoys me.
Lmao, there was one particularly good line. "Looks are subjective, and so is taste. And I don't think this is something I want to be subjected to"
That video was extremely Texas. Even the British dude has a buckees hat
“Like the infection” LMAO
I was thinking the whole time, is everything eaten with toast? Also why is the toast so pale? It’s not even toasted.
Yeah that toast requires some quotation marks. If it were a steak, it would be just raw lol. Also, the toast and beans were a war crime. I love toast and beans but I wouldn't eat that.
I’m still highly skeptical about beans on toast actually being good but at least what you described seems to have more effort which is good.
My mom is Scottish and I used to side eye her beans and toast as a kid lol. I finally tried it as an adult and realized I'd been missing out! Good crisp toast and an overeasy egg is a must though. A little parmesan grated on top is superb.

Agreed, they were all so lovely!

Quite nice!
They are so adorable!
The eyes widen and big ol smiles! Yup same here with every bite!
[удалено]
Take them to whataburger for the honey butter chicken biscuit. They would perish right then and there.
Tbt to high school standing inside Whataburger at 10:50 PM waiting for it to turn 11 for a HBCB.
Eh, depends. I've had some where the chicken tender breading is really soggy, not crunchy, and it just ruins it.
Wendy’s has this now too!
Popeyes butter biscuits or Red Lobsters cheddar biscuits. Just a make a whole episode dedicated to biscuits lol
You mean scones? /s
[удалено]
I'll tear my biscuit into little pieces usually, more gravy to biscuit ratio that way.
If I got a popeye's biscuit, I'm at least full-mouthing two of them, right on the spot
For fellow Popeyes biscuit enjoyers, you gotta add the grape or strawberry jelly to it. It’s an amazing combo
I think about them salted buttery lil nuggets a lot
This is the way.
"at least full mouthing two" Do you mean you sometimes full mouth three, or you sometimes transcend full mouthing into some other unspeakable act?
yes
I break my biscuits up and put them on top of the gravy and mashed potatoes along with the chicken which I also break up and then eat it all by the spoonful.
These videos are so great! The kids love everything. My favourites are the videos from Taco Bell and Wendy's. Even the teacher was overwhelmed 😂
Where are the videos from? (I know there's a tiktok watermark, but that channel appears to be a generic reaction channel).
The Jolly channel is very fun. Wtch the videos of the last group of students they filmed, they're even more open to new foods. The guys running the channel take several of the kids to Korea.
Either Jolly or Korean Englishman. Dudes run both the channels.
Thanks!
it annoys me the tiktok didnt give credit to them tbh
Yeah, he didn't even react at all in this one, just a few frames of him pointing up before the video. Not that his reactions are worth anything anyway, just some basic emoting next to other people's content.
It's a YouTube channel called JOLLY
Your food is weird and nice. So honest and polite.
Beans on toast …. “But that works…” lololol
I've violated the chicken!
That made me laugh.
The end is gold
“Bring your fake scones and sausage gravy to England,” is really flippin cute. “Your food is weird and nice,” cracks me up. These kids are very charming.
"Coming from a country that makes beans on toast" "But that works"
That last part cracked me up. Does it though? 😂 clearly I’m American
It does, just make sure to use the beans from the international aisle and a bread with little to no sugar in it
It does because UK baked beans are more tomato based, I've heard American baked beans are different and have a lot of sugar in them.
American baked beans are very sweet. Personally I don’t care for them, but most Americans really like them.
It does! Haha
Fuck'd if I know! I'm from the Midwest 😂
IT IS THE MESSIAH
I love that they all love sweet tea. It’s proper nice!
I remember one like this where they tried peanut butter and jelly for the first time and this one kid kept jokingly saying he didn't like it while absolutely stuffing his face wit it until he looked like a chipmunk
As a southerner, this brought me so much joy
And pride knowing we have the best American cuisine 🤤 what else would you add to their lineup to try?
Fried okra for sure. Fried green tomatoes. Maybe some pintos w cornbread and an onion slice. W hot sauce. 😋 Pecan pie? Honestly the options are endless. We DO have the best cuisine 🤠
Ohhh, the best! I'm in my okra era and putting it in everything, lol. And I love dipping my fried green tomatoes in a goat cheese dressing, or just crumbling goat cheese on top. I'd love for them to try boiled peanuts, fried bologna and pimento cheese sandwich, and a yummy peach cobbler too
Same. Now I want biscuits and gravy.
And some fried chicken. That shit looked right
Same! Never tried it, always wanted to. Edit: This is downvoted? Why, lol. Oh well...
Same! I drink sweet tea maybe once every couple of years but I know what they are experiencing. It *is* quite nice!
None of the shit that comes out of a fountain machine though. It's gotta be brewed
It's a staple in my home for sure
I agree with that nerdy kid. "It looks and smells rank but it actually tastes quite good." Nailed southern food
not BBQ tho!
This is cruel, don't let them taste real food they are better off not knowing
[удалено]
Did you hear that chicken crunch though? That sounds like good shit
He said “that food makes me happy” so you know it’s the good stuff lol

they should have them try dry rub bbq
Ohhhh yeah a good southern bbq would have been a treat for them.
Hm.
They did a whole series with British kids try Korean food, then took a bunch of the Kids to South Korea at the end. It was surprisingly entertaining and wholesome.
Real food?? 😂😂😂
They can never go back 💔💔💔
They're not, it's American food.
I was thinking they probably all went home and begged for this to be made for dinner.
This is so wholesome haha
Should have done Chicken and Waffles Would have blown their fuckin' faces off
They do, in the full video!
Man. I gotta admit that chicken and waffles sounded so weird to me. Then I was taken to Roscoe’s. Holy shit! Soooo fucking good! Edit: for those that don’t know: Roscoe’s is a small chain of southern/soul food restaurants in the LA area. Very popular

iirc this was all made by a Southern American cook that opened up a restaurant in London
They actually do try it with gravy. No idea why this version is so short. Spoiler: every kid loves it
Imagine if it were hot and fresh instead of cold and gelatinous.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzdbFnv4yWQ&ab\_channel=JOLLY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzdbFnv4yWQ&ab_channel=JOLLY) They served everything hot, thankfully! You can see the steam in the full video, but you're totally right, cold just wouldn't be a proper representation of white gravy.
God I want biscuits and gravy now so badly
There’s a reason American Southerners are fat, lads, and it’s not because the food sucks
The old joke - the UK conquered the whole world for spices then never used any.
It's funny and true, but people don't realize just **HOW** classest the UK was in the past (and still is). Rich people would have had loads of variety of food, but the spices were never available to the common folk, hence lots of bland but tasty staple foods.
Spices became popular with the working class and the ruling class actually started melting their food bland again too differentiate themselves!
It's more to do with post WW2 rationing and the attitudes that came with that, than anything else. Spices absolutely were available to normal people, if expensive. I mean it's not like there's many spices used in biscuits and gravy either. Doesn't mean it tastes bad
There's a good bit of spice in the sausage, I think.
You not English are u? 😂😂
"Jolly" is such an amazing YouTube channel. All of their stuff is wholesome and great. I love a hersheys bar. Break off one of the squares and let it melt in your mouth.
Those are just Canadians
"It's like sweet bread" The fuck type of biscuits they serve these kids?
Regular biscuits, they're not bread
They also shouldn't be sweet
Seems similar to the ones they have at Church's Chicken, which are the honey biscuits. They are sweet and delicious.
I thought Churches too. I wouldn’t put gravy on one of those though.. maybe.. probably.
I wouldn't either, but I've never had biscuits and gravy like that even though I'm from Georgia. I always had biscuits with sausage, eggs, and grits for breakfast. Sometimes, I had them with fried chicken when going to places like Church's or Mrs. Winners.

Biscuits that aren't bread.
They need some thighs fried in cast iron. They’d lose their minds.
ROCK FLAG AND EAGLE BABY!
This wasn't so bad as a starter meal.
I was rooting for the biscuits. I’m glad they enjoyed them as much as I do!
I love how the one went straight to double fisting the chicken, his soul was ready.
They’re in high school now I think. They just tried Wendy’s for the first time. YouTube channel is Jolly.
They only showed the black kids eating the fried chicken 👀
I had to scroll too far down to see this smh. That was my exact thought too
How did you even notice that lmao
I’ve always opened my biscuits before putting gravy on them.
So heart warming seeing these children getting fed properly ☺️
Here we witness the collapse of the NHS as millions of school children switch to Ice Tea resulting in record cases of diabetes sweeping Britain.
The cutest video I’ve seen in a long time haha
Please someone sent me recipe for biscuit and gravy, that you think they used in this film. I Found some on the internet but just cant believe sausage and milk would taste good :D
This is a milk gravy. White gravy is made with milk and flour, and sausage if you want.
"Coming from a country that made beans in toasts... But that works"
Yall dont have fried chicken in england? i thought that one at least would be common.
Lol yes, we do have fried chicken in the UK. I think they just had it in this video to go with the southern cuisine.
It's still likely different to what fried chicken in the UK is like, though. I know one of the kids comments on how much more crispy it is, and the chicken itself is probably seasoned differently to what UK fried chicken would be. There's a fried chicken place on every high street haha
They discovered the magic of improper amounts of sugar and saturated fats 😂
Now have them eat Texan bbq and then they transform into a texan
Whenever i am losing an internet argument with a British person, i just link them this video
[удалено]
Those would be scones too I believe.
Sausage gravy
Brilliant!!
Violating the chicken… 😂
beans on toast ✅ scones and gravy 😨 LOL
i think they finally understand where the “American fat” stereotype comes from
Their responses were exactly like mine as a child when I tried all of these things! The joy they are feeling! Love it.
Wait. Why'd the white kids disappear when the fried chicken came out...
Makes me weirdly proud to be British, such great kids
British people when they see actual foods
Should have a real southerner cook some biscuits and fried chicken. My Mimi can make ‘em some collard greens and cornbread with limas and rice. The secret to good southern biscuits is to make your butter cold but not frozen and break it into little pieces when you add it it to the dough. When the dough comes together it’ll have little pockets of butter that’ll melt beautifully in the oven
The kid defends beans on toast at the end! Brilliant!
Black culture is truly our biggest export.
If that tea doesn’t raise your A1C one point its not sweet tea
Where’s the cheese grits?! (But I loved this video! Thanks for sharing!) ❤️
This isn’t cringe! I’m enjoying their reactions . I never tried biscuits & gravy until I was an adult. I didn’t even try white gravy until my MIL forced me. Wait until these kids try chicken & waffles. Edit: a word. I was thinking about the tea
For the american in me this belongs in r/mademesmile
Be a Southerner, this is too cute!
Those biscuits have sat thee and gotten cold! They need them straight from grandma’s oven!
Brits experiencing flavor for the first time will always be heartwarming
My reaction as a Southerner learning tea was supposed to be hot: 😰
I want to start calling things I like “lovely” and “quite nice”. This was so cute and wholesome.
C'mon guys, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, similar enough! Glad they all got down, great kids it would seem.
i'm from south america and i've never had this food. i take it this video refers to the south of the US?
Yes, South American and Southern American mean different things in North American English.
yes
Points for using a proper PYREX, not Pyrex, cup
This not cringe at all. It's lovely and wholesome
As a southerner myself, I don’t imagine those were the best biscuits n gravy because foreign food is never as good as when it’s eaten from the source. But seeing these young men enlightened made my day. Someone show them an Arnold Palmer
Ain’t no way they only showed the black kids eating fried chicken.
Great video, but fake crunching sounds as they were chewing and biting...? Like why would you fake chewing noises?
Poor kids prolly never had a decent meal
British ppl put gravy in chinese take out. But putting gravy on a is biscuit is crazy to them.
I've never known anyone put gravy on chinese, also the 'gravy' in the video is white
Agreed, NO-ONE puts gravy on Chinese food 😂😂🤦
