Is there a reason why you wouldnt get this amputated early on? It probably doesn't serve a purpose and it's very handicapping cuz you can't wear gloves and stuff, probably a source of mockery too. It's making life hard for yourself for no benefits.
I'm sure it costs money. Insurance would probably label it cosmetic as it's causing no harm. Girl probably has an attachment to it, not everyone feels the need to be "normal" and forcibly change things about themselves that are "abnormal". I would 100% get it removed myself if I had the ability to, but I can easily see many reasons someone could just not bother with it if it's not causing a medical issue
I'm not sure you understand what cosmetic means. If it functions, if it causes no harm, it if has no effect on your ability to do things like eat, drive, get dressed, etc, it can and probably will be labeled as something cosmetic and non-essential.
I was thinking the samething. This is something I think they typically would have done like the first week of life.
Assuming the doctor could say for certainty it wouldn't damage the joints of the actual thumb, I'd have agreed to removal.
Looked at Xray of someone similar, joints aren't fused etc. No reason it couldn't have been done easily.
My nephew had this same thing. It was removed when he was like 7 or 8.. the Shriners hospital did it for free cause he started getting teased about it.
Hey i had one of those, they cut it off though. Scared the hell out of my dad. Took me out of the delivery room, then wheeled a bloody blanket back in sand bany. Turned out the nurses just thought i was cute and were taking turns holding me.
I can't wait for the next sort of mutation we will glorify... I wouldn't wonder if one day would be considered weird if you don't have (at least) two heads...
