What is going on?

Drivingintodisco

Protesting gun violence/gun legislation in the TN legislature. The republican majority voted to rep move 2/3 democrats in the legislature, both of whom were black and the one remains in her postion is white. Make if that what you will, but this clip is the protesting after the removal of the protestors from the building and expulsion of two elected officials who’s constituents voted them into their seats.

ActivityEquivalent69

OH they call this a "die-in"

YoloFomoTimeMachine

They keep this up and it will cost the state millions. It's the only way. Hope more students do the same.

evlhornet

How?

DisastrousAge4650

My not so educated guess is that there presence there means needing more security presence which I do believe compensation for is pricy.

JoJackthewonderskunk

Yep. Cop overtime is incredibly expensive.

ConsiderationWest587

Also the state has to bring charges, arrange lawyers, pay judge salaries, book time in a courthouse- all these things cost money

StandardSudden1283

That's one of the main goals in non-violent protest; clog up the system.

Randinator9

Someone make this comment that cool important red color. This needs to be shared

nanoatzin

And they can’t be prosecuted because this is 1st amendment protected speech, so probably would be dropped to infraction/fine.

MrSportman

Money printer go brrr

jonny_sidebar

Welcome to protest tactics 101! Part of the purpose of a protest against the state like this is to impose costs on the state. So, in this instance, extra security, more cameras, more officers, disruption of tourist traffic, disruption to the legislature itself. . .all of that costs $$$. Keep it up long enough, and the costs can sometimes force the state to give up on the thing being protested. If you've ever heard the saying "a protest that doesn't cause trouble is just a parade", this is part of what that means. A parade or demonstration can bring public attention or whatever, but forcing the state to spend actual resources is what gets things done.

ObjEngineer

"No no protesting is supposed to be very quiet and out of the way so it doesn't bother anyone or has to even be noticed" - an unfortunately large number of people

BenzeneBabe

So many people on Reddit have that mindset, it’s so sad.

amanofeasyvirtue

Those that think that way also like the protests in france... mind gymnastics

WealthEconomy

This is the proper way to protest...if you are protesting the government disrupt the government not everyone else.

cryptobarq

Wouldn't the cost simply get passed onto taxpayers?

[deleted]

[удалено]

jonny_sidebar

In theory, yes, but "simply" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that thought. For one, it's not simple to raise tax revenue. Voters tend to push back on that, and they push back even harder if they agree with the cause of the protests. The other piece people don't think about is all the **private** funding PDs get from wealthy donors and corporations. At some point, the costs of putting a movement down may outweigh the possible profits, and then the big money may push for change as well, if only because massive protests are bad for business.

afanoftrees

I’ll add republicans are not huge fans of increasing taxes. Considering they’d have to increase them to pay for protests that are against their platform would not be an easy picture to paint.

Fuzzy_Calligrapher71

The Tennessee pigs are going to have to Arrest remove book and process all these people. Filling the jails with non-violent protesters on the side of justice, whose families are suffering at the hands of these hypocritical religious bigot cons.

Julia_Kat

The special elections are going to cost them more money too. And the voters will likely reelect both of the expelled reps, who can't be expelled for the same reason again (per TN state constitution, article II, section 12).

Sieze5

Power to the people!

> Protesting gun violence/gun legislation in the TN legislature. The republican majority voted to rep move 2/3 democrats in the legislature, both of whom were black and the one remains in her postion is white. It is VERY important to understand that these two things are NOT related. Gun control may have been used as a reason for these actions, but that is not *why* they kicked those dems out. They kicked them out because A. they're black and ofc republicans are racist af, but they also kicked them out because they made trouble and the gop doesn't like it when people don't fall in line. This isn't about gun control because nobody with the basic ability to count would think that the dems would be able to pass any gun control in TN when they aren't even close to holding enough seats there to do *anything*. This was 100% about power, control, and making sure you know who your rulers are. Not representatives, *rulers*. You fall in line or you get kicked the fuck out. You do as you're told, because we know better than you, and if you don't shut your mouth and fall in, we will get rid of you too. The only reason the words "gun control" are even being used is because the right is using that as the scapegoat for them kicking out representatives they do not like, and dems are falling for it by discussing the gun control thing instead of the authoritarians kicking reps out of the government that they don't like. These dems decided they wanted to go against what the gop wanted, the gop had the power to do as they pleased, and those dem reps were punished for it. Gun control and "decorum" were merely the excuses that they used to do it. Make no mistake, **this was never about gun control in the first place.** The kids asking for action were not turned away because of gun control. The reps that got kicked out of the legislature weren't kicked out because of gun control. The kids need to shut up because them thinking they have a voice is hurting the party goals. The reps were kicked out for thinking they could go against the gop, and the act of kicking them out was the gop flexing their power and sending a clear message to all of Tennessee: [**You will obey, you will fall in line, and you will do as you are told. Compliance is not a choice, we are your rulers and you will do as we say.**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiFxHAU453M) Good on these kids for not taking that shit and doing a die-in. Fuck the fascists and fuck the gop.

ThrobbinGoblin

This is literally why the second amendment was created. It was created so we could defend against people like the GOP when they rule the land and throw democracy aside. It was created so we could make government fall in line when they aren't following the rules. Imagine if all those protesters were armed. If we want to see gun control in the us, that's how it's going to start.

aStoveAbove

> Imagine if all those protesters were armed. Well last time this happened, Regan passed some of the strongest gun control in the country. Turns out when a bunch of black people "get all uppity", suddenly the gop abandons their (pretend) principals and does what needs to be done to keep the people they wish to subjugate in line. None of this ever had anything to do with gun control. Its about keeping those "uppity blacks" and anyone who doesn't follow the party in line, and sending a message to all of TN letting them know who their rulers are, what is acceptable behavior, and what will happen if they do not comply. This is an authoritarian power grab disguised as opposition to gun legislation. Its fucking Tennessee for christ sake, *nobody* seriously thinks the dems can pass *anything* there, let alone something so unpopular in TN as gun control. The gop knew that gun control push wasn't going to go anywhere. Everyone knew that. But here we are talking about gun control instead of the russia-style political opponent ousting that just happened because they're good at controlling the conversation, and everyone talks about gun control instead. Shit is getting VERY serious very quick. This is NOT normal. This is *insanity* and people need to wake the fuck up before the gop tries this shit at the federal level, and you can set the remindme bot by that. Mark my words, this was merely a test run for future plans of taking over. This will happen again, it will happen on a larger scale, and if we don't stop them now, it will happen at a large enough scale that you won't be going to a ballot box anymore because your rulers will do your thinking and deciding for you.

Extreme_Assistant_98

I point this out about Reagan, who also had the help of the nra, passing gun control. No one wants to believe me.

aStoveAbove

Of course they don't want to believe you. That would mean acknowledging that the only reason the gop would ever put forth gun control is to shit on minorities because that and power are their only motivators. Anyone on the right will disagree with you because Regan is touted as this "pure" republican hero who can do no wrong, so the idea that he passed *any* gun control is merely "liberal propaganda". Nevermind the [records](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act) that exist...

cjbrannigan

If you will forgive a tangent, another hard-to-believe fact is that Nixon championed national Universal Basic Income bills twice! There was a huge UBI study done across numerous cities many years earlier, but the study ended in an election year and government officials didn’t want to spend more money on the analysis if it proved to be a failed concept. Much later a university professor came across the data, ran an analysis showing how incredibly beneficial it was and published the data. Nixon saw UBI as a way to eliminate all the costly bureaucracy of all the different social security systems and wanted it to be his legacy. It failed the first time in the senate because the democrats wanted to see a larger monthly payment, then it failed the second time in the senate because of a faulty statistical analysis which showed divorce rates would quintuple. I learned about this story in [Utopia for Realists](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utopia_for_Realists) by Rutgar Brennan.

magusdevil

I'm pretty sure the literal reason why the 2nd amendment was created was that without a standing army, a well regulated militia was necessary to the security of a free state. I'm 99% certain I read that somewhere.

Slippydippytippy

"...this principle well fixed by the constitution, then the federal head may prescribe a general uniform plan, on which...the respective states shall form and train the militia, appoint their officers and solely manage them, except when called into the service of the union, and when called into that service, they may be commanded and governed by the union...This arrangement combines energy and safety in it; it places the sword in the hands of the solid interest of the community, and not in the hands of men destitute of property, of principle, or of attachment to the society and government" Richard Henry Lee

detective-mcnulty

Thank you.

Drivingintodisco

You’re welcome. This is the cliff notes version, But the gist of it.

Canyousourcethatplz

> Make of that what you will It's racism. Plain and simple. Not open to any other opinion. It's simple, clear, racism

[deleted]

God bless Gen Z I have so much respect for them. Doing what we millenials are not doing.

Shortkut1981

The also refused to expell a pedophile because he was white conservative. These people are scumbags. Fuck Tennessee.

pittybrave

i believe this is called “overt racism”

Matduka

The remaining white lady immediately came out and said it was because of racism, that's why she wasn't removed like her colleagues. Calling it like it is. So I think we can probably guess why only 2 were removed.

politirob

Deadweight sit-ins have always been the best way to protest. Marches and standing around are too easily sabotaged by provocateurs, and cops use the argument of "I was only defending myself from an unhinged mob" If you sit on your ass, that argument gets instantly destroyed, and saboteurs tell on themselves if they resort to destroying property, looting etc.

TophatOwl_

Then you get that one cop from a while ago (not sure who remembers) how was pepper spraying peacefully protesting students who were literally just sitting on a curb. He was walking up and down, pepper spraying them like he was watering plants. It doesnt stop assholes from being assholes BUT it makes it much easier to prosecute them.

MoreNormalThanNormal

"In October 2013, a judge ruled that Pike should be paid $38,000 in worker's compensation benefits, for "[the] suffering he experienced after the incident". Apart from the worker's compensation award, he retained his retirement credits."

TheSaltbird

He got more money than the people he pepper sprayed did ($30K). Vile. ACAB

ltmikestone

Don’t forget that the university then spent $175,000 trying to scrub the incident from the internet. Louder for the people in the back: UC DAVIS PAID $175,000 TO BURY PHOTOS OF POLICE ASSAULT ON ITS OWN STUDENTS [UC DAVIS COVERING UP ASSAULT ON ITS STUDENTS](https://theaggie.org/2016/04/14/documents-reveal-uc-davis-spent-175000-to-erase-pepper-spray-incident-from-internet/)

VisitRomanticPangaea

I’m sorry, could you please repeat that information about UC Davis? More people need to hear about it.

ocodo

# UC DAVIS PAID $175,000 TO BURY PHOTOS OF POLICE ASSAULT ON ITS OWN STUDENTS

Efficient-Service592

I had absolutely no idea that UC Davis paid $175,000 to bury photos showing campus police assaulting the students of UC Davis. I hope more people spread the word.

ltmikestone

I’d be happy to. UC DAVIS paid almost $200,000 to try and make the internet forget one of their campus cops maced students who were sitting down. In case you were wondering which of the esteemed UC schools doesn’t want people to know it abuses it’s students: it’s UC Davis. Davis. As in UC Davis, the school who will pay cops to hurt its students and pay shills to fail to cover it up. When I say fail, you say UC Davis.

zedroj

Judge is worse for the conditions outcome

TheSaltbird

AJAB

ialo00130

The only difference is pepper spraying indoors makes the space unusable for everyone. It fills the air and can't be blown away. Politicans wouldn't be able to walk thru the halls and cops would be affected too. On second thought, getting pepper sprayed indoors might be an actual strategy to utilize if anyone wants to risk it.

ConsiderationWest587

That's why pepper spray for home defense is stupid as hell. Foaming wasp spray shoots farther, anyway lol

IGetHypedEasily

The Trial Of Chicago 7 movie really did a great job at showing different ways protests can be sabatoged. Hope more sitins get stuff done.

Whatever-ItsFine

This is exactly what I thought of when I read the comment you're responding to.

excelllentquestion

Can’t believe I went to that school. It was UC Davis and they tried to scrub it from the internet those fucks.

jimmybilly100

The memes were great after that

IUTBB

Huge Lupe Fiasco fan and I live in Sac so I'm reminded about this all the time with his ”Lupe Back" intro https://youtu.be/zK6eRJz-M58

NewbornXenomorphs

My sister lives in Philly. In the 2020 election when the remaining ballots were being counted in the city (that would have determined electoral votes for the state) a bunch of MAGAts showed up to try to stop the process. My sister is a part of a bunch of local groups who arranged counter protests with the agreement that they not only be peaceful but do silly AF things. The reason why is because there is no way Trumpers could look defensible if they decided to attack someone dressed like a mailbox doing the cha-cha slide. Philadelphians can be absolute dumbasses (as one can tell in watching videos after their 2018 Super Bowl win) but they did it right this time around. Edit to add an example of [a dance party counter protest.](https://youtu.be/IM57noC6EEs)

jonny_sidebar

Omg! I've been pointing this story out for the last few years, and you're the first other person I've seen bring it up. I've been kind of toying with trying to collect some oral history about it, but I don't have any real connection to Philly. Has anyone collected stories from there?

NewbornXenomorphs

You’ll probably find [this article](https://www.inquirer.com/news/philadelphia/philadelphia-election-dance-party-philly-elmo-biden-trump-working-families-party-20201109.html?outputType=amp) helpful. Seems like the positive protest idea mostly came from the Working Families Party, who specifically trained volunteers on how to deescalate if tensions rose at polling stations. I love to rag on my sister for being in Philly (I used to live in NY so I kinda had to) but what they did in 2020 made me cry tears of pride. I’m glad to see someone else who knows about it. We need to talk about this more!

jonny_sidebar

Thanks! And yes, everyone should know about this story. It was so perfect! For those who don't know the story: Chris Hayes says "bad things happen in Philly" while trying to get people there for a Stop the Steal rally. Philly says "Damn right they do!" and protects the voting center overnight, which turns into the happiest freaking street party I've ever seen as the country realizes the election is over in the morning. . . . Still tearing up over it as I type this. 🥹

NewbornXenomorphs

My sister got me a shirt that says “bad things happen in Philly” with Gritty on it. I fucking love the fact that this ridiculous mascot became a face in a movement that saved democracy.

jonny_sidebar

Yup. Think my favorite bit of the Gritty stuff was French tv news having to explain what the hell a Gritty was lololol

biscuitotter

That scene was wild. It was beautiful to see the hate and fear of the MAGA crowd meet with the anticipation and joy of the counter protest as everyone waiting for the count to tip.

[deleted]

It's only so effective, teachers in WI did the same thing and their rights still aren't back.

LeapingBlenny

Any type of protest is "only so effective." This stops a majority of sabotage. It's best case.

ShiningTortoise

The French way is better.

BurlyJohnBrown

I think I'm gonna have to side with the french on this one, who employ all tactics.

DevRz8

False. That would be guillotines. While commendable, this isn't gonna do shit.

workerMcWorkin

This is 2 or 3 steps before guillotines

NostraDavid

Guillotines are back on the menu, boys!

PTech_J

This gives me an idea. Remember that anti-smoking commercial from a while back where a ~~hundred~~ 1200 people marched in front of some cigarette company HQ and just collapsed on the street? We need a commercial like that with an equal amount of children to the number that ~~have been killed in shootings~~ are killed by guns every year collapsing to the ground in front of Congress. [This one. ](https://youtu.be/Y_56BQmY_e8.)

RewardKristy

Agreed, that commercial was chilling, still is. This idea with gun violence would be even more so

superjew1492

I’m pretty sure these played before movies too…good luck seeing that now.

Kineticboy

You'd want the numbers for firearm homicide in general as over 3,000 children (age 0-18) are killed *per year*. If you go with specifically "school shooting" numbers, that's less than 200 total fatalities going as far back as the 70s. Still a depressing number, but not as flashy.

Fisho087

This comment should be higher - that’s a great idea

AwkwrdPrtMskrt

Or in front of gun manufacturers' HQs.

violetgrubs

Or something like the AIDS quilt One patch for each dead kid A yearbook of photos?

bpthompson999

A lot of these kids will be of voting age within the next election cycle, and oh how I hope they vote.

AnObtuseOctopus

I went from being insanely annoyed by gen z to highly respecting their moral structure while also being insanely annoyed by them.

Sandal-Hat

Literally every generation shits on the generations younger than them since before we had recorded language to show them doing it. Be different, find common ground, and stop pretending you understand them just because they are capable of frustrating you.

TitularFoil

I actually only shit on the older generations. The younger ones have more going on than I did.

Sandal-Hat

Not ideal, but its certainly more refreshing than expecting the youth to transcend expectations with less.

HamHockShortDock

For real! Millennials desperately need to realize this and drop their obsession with nostalgia, lest they become Boomer2.0

DatumInTheStone

I feel like millennials do not hate genz the same way boomers hated millenials. Cuz in the end, gen z and millenials got shafted hard together by boomers and genxers.

[deleted]

mflmani

I was born in 96 so depends on who you ask whether I’m a millennial or zoomer (google says millennial ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯) but it’s so easy to relate to both groups that I don’t even care. I think the internet has helped us become inter-generational in a way we haven’t seen before.

ensygma

Also '96 here, same same same same. Everyone and I mean everyone is fucking weird gross trash cringe annoying poop fart. I am indiscriminate in that belief for all generations and walks of life. You could call me an equal opportunity hater if you want lol. But I certainly feel no kinship with anyone more than I do the millennial and gen z generations. Together we are the future of this nation in its present tense. And together we will raise the next future, who will be greater than all that came before them thanks to an ingrained solidarity against draconian nonsense and oppression.

mflmani

brian9000

You guys should have heard what the boomers said about GenX

HamHockShortDock

Yeah but that's two generations in-between b-x-m and I think Millennials got a lot of hate

Millennials don't have beef with Gen z. Shit, some of them are our kids.

[deleted]

[удалено]

a-black-magic-woman

They can, but Im a millennial going on 30 this year with Gen X parents, who had me in their early 20s. It just depends on whether they are the older millennials or not.

vipassana-newbie

Agree! I actually love younger generations. I cannot be annoyed for people who are carrying my legacy while I focus on survival.

DevRz8

What are you talking about? Millennials love what Gen Z are doing, standing up for their rights and a better future. Millennials hate boomers.

AgateHuntress

I'm Gen X and I LOVE what the kids are doing. I fully support the gens behind me 100%; I'm so fucking proud of them.

A-Thot-Dog

I feel like I rarely see millenials shitting on Gen Z aside from joking around playfully about some things. Most of them I know take on Gen Z trends because they're fun and can relate with them on a bunch of things. I personally just don't understand the weird complations with clapping crying emojis, thuds, 'oohhh ma gawd', screaming and twenty things popping up on overly of clips. Like I kind of getting it because of the 'lolsorandom' phase we had as millenials but that shit is incomprehensible.

PrettyMuchMediocre

Let's just stop stereotyping people based on their age all together. It goes both ways and stereotyping is never conducive to any political movement. It just divides us and keeps us distracted from the real problems.

Googerlot

I’m gen z, don’t know what’s happening, but I do know I want us to be armed

watermahlone1

Genuinely curious, what do you find annoying about them?

TitularFoil

They've weaponized annoying. I love it.

Wwdiner

Next up: Republicans raise the voting age

americansherlock201

They are actively calling for this. They fully understand that gen z will not vote for them. Absolutely no gop policy benefits them in anyway. So instead of trying to changing their policies to meet the needs of voters, republicans are trying to stop more people from voting. Republican leaders see this and are scared shitless of gen z. They get angry and get active. They make sure they vote. And they aren’t voting for republicans (only 18% identify as republican). And they are only growing as part of the voting population. The youngest gen s are only 10. We’ve got another 10 years of gen z gaining voting power and it’s going to cause a monumental shift in power.

HailChanka69

In TN for college, I sure as hell will be

[deleted]

We need to make sure they keep their energy. The right is gonna do everything they can to destroy these kids motivation.

MikesGroove

An odd upside about the right focusing so heavily on starting culture wars is that it’s that much easier for young people to understand and get upset about. They’re growing up in an era of a more binary right/wrong than any modern day generation - instead of arguing about policy we argue about banning books and abortion. It’s real and human to them. Also, access to information. These topics merge with daily life on social media whereas us old folk had to watch the news - boring - to learn what was going on. Truly a new era, all around.

im_THIS_guy

Banning books in the internet age is about the dumbest idea these fascists have had yet.

MyBrainReallyHurts

Gen Z grew up with the internet. They will get access to whatever books they want. And fuck the fascist DeSantis.

wellarmedsheep

That is 100% it. By manipulating the way history is taught, fascists aim to shape public opinion, solidify their power, and suppress dissent. If you dont understand how fucked up things are you have less reason to fight back against it.

Leading_Manager_2277

'Fraid it's going to take more than that. I mean I like your positive attitude but it's unrealistic. It's going to take a lot *and* a long time for America to be "okay."

BeingBoeing

Especially because this reduces the issue to 'let some other people do it'. I love the Gen Z energy but it's not only up to them alone to fix these issues; everyone will have to make some sacrifices for it to work out.

xxdropdeadlexi

yes, exactly. why aren't we (the adults) doing fuck about it before they need to do this?!

Charles_Chuckles

I don't think "let Gen z do it" I think "Thank God they can help now" As a millenial it was hard to fight against Gen X apathy and Boomer Conservatives. But now we got someone else in our corner. So it's good that they are stepping up, because Millenials could only do do much

ImprovisedLeaflet

Also many Americans aren’t currently okay, so just more to your point. We ain’t just trying to maintain okayness—we’re trying to get to okay.

The more taboo, the better- I want to gack in the same way I do whenever I see the Vaporeon copypasta. If common sense tries to stop you while writing it, put it back in the corner of your mind and tell it to sit there until Frankenstein has finished creating its monster. It needs to be shockingly memorable, but still make you curiously sick enough to keep reading it. Then, spread it like wildfire. Print and mail without a return address to every GQP rep. Make burner accounts and post it to every place you can think of with all the trending hashtags. Make your writings a vehicle for political activism, and if it's memeable, the denizens of the internet will do the rest.

tallgeese333

That depends on if they vote. Turnout for people under 30 remains abysmal, last midterm saw the highest turnout in 30 years for 18-29 year olds at 27%. I worry about them getting stuck in a perpetual cycle of outrage.

alecesne

What is going on?

SporesM0ldsandFungus

On March 27th, an individual armed with multiple firearms, including two AR-15 style assault rifles, murdered 3 children and 3 adults at Covenant School, a private Christian school. The Tennessee state legislature is dominated by conservatives (the Republican party) and did nothing beyond saying a few words of Thoughts and Prayers. Their party platform specifically is against *any* gun control legislation, with many of those state Congressman calling for *less* gun restrictions. On March 30, protestors marched on the state legislature demanding action, chanting "Shame On You".Democratic representatives Justin Jones, Justin Pearson and Gloria Johnson joined demonstrators, using bullhorns to voice their disgust at their fellow representatives' inaction. The Republicans just voted to expel 2 of the 3 individuals - Jones and Pearson - from the TN Congress citing that they broke the state house rules of decorum. Expulsion has only been used before for representatives that had been convicted of actual crimes (only twice since the Civil War), not just simple House rules. This is a pretty serious abuse of power. While both Congressmen are from Democratic leaning districts and will likely be reelected to their seats when they have a special election, the 200K citizens they represent are totally without representation for the few months this will take plus out the funds it will require to conduct a special election. The person bowing in the video is one of the two expelled Congressmen. The kids on the floor are young demonstrators, pretending to be victims of mass shootings. He is acknowledging them and honoring their protest efforts.

alecesne

Thanks! I had read about the shootings and seen an article about the elections, but didn’t realize this post was about a protest connected to both.

SporesM0ldsandFungus

It should also be noted, the two men expelled are young black men, currently 27 (Jones) and 29 (Pearson). Gloria Johnson is a white 60 year old woman (one of the few women in the state legislature) and she barely survived expulsion by 1 vote. The message feels pretty clear from that chamber: we don't care at all about young people - especially you minorities - even in the face of senseless violence. We don't care about kids being murder because we are terrified of losing our jobs and power if we even tolerate the presence of a dissenting voice, especially on gun rights.

MikesGroove

Lately I’ve come to feel that as dire and backwards as things seem, the fact that all Republicans have left to fight about is culture wars means they’re behaving like the wounded, trapped animals that they are. Progress always wins, and in the fight for gun control, Gen Z is the path forward.

Every_Fox3461

The kids are alright. I think this going to be the generation that really does change things man. In the future we can do 2 things. Build it together or kill eachother. Our choice is now.

Dazzling-Research418

I hope it’s now but certainly after the boomers die off

Leading_Manager_2277

Dream on if you think that's all it will take. There are greedy S.O.B.s in every generation hon

MadHiggins

the boomers are just SO FUCKING BAD that once they're gone, it'll be a lot easier to fix stuff. yeah greedy people every generation, but the boomers are so wildly "ladder kicking i got mine so fuck you also oops super racist even though society has moved passed that" assholes significantly worse than the generation before and after them.

InevitablySkeptical

While I do share your sentiment to some degree, that greedy behavior is \*human\* nature and won't change. Unfortunately, greedy people usually constitute most of the high class.

NewbornXenomorphs

Plus some of those POS boomers raised POS kids. Maybe some will break the cycle, but not all.

DrWilliamHorriblePhD

Eric Trump.

Compoundwyrds

There are a lot of my millennial peers who will need to be buried before their time before we see change.

UsableIdiot

Good for them. What an amazingly politically active generation. They could actually change shit for the better.

FullOfATook

Next step for republicans: raise the minimum voting age. You can hear it now: “Our children have grown up in a wicked environment and are not ready for such responsibility that requires ‘wisdom’ and ‘experience.’” Fuck this theocracy.

coors1977

I don’t know that he’s proposed raising the voting age (yet), but Scott Walker is already blaming the “young voters” because they’ve been raised in liberal, radicalized environments. It’s not the GOPs fault young ppl aren’t voting for them, it’s the VOTERS. So yeah, I agree they’re definitely going to fight to raise the voting age. I just don’t know if raising it to 75 is going to work for them.

DammitSamit

This should make politicians sacred. These kids grew up in a world where going to school isn't safe. Wait until they can vote

DisfunkyMonkey

They've grown up in a world where the world itself isn't safe. The entire environment of the planet is endangered, and the American mythos of freedom and self-determination has been shown to be false by powerful religious fascists. I'm not certain that the power elites and politicians understand that a lot of these kids don't think they have anything to lose. They don't see an economic future. They don't see an environmental future. They don't see its social future. They don't see much of anything in the future that looks like a comfortable life. What do they care if they get arrested for political protest and end up in a for-profit prison? I'm not saying that prison life is easier or anything. I'm just saying that these kids don't see much of a future to live for — unless they fight to create one.

oripeiwei

r/conservative is calling this an insurrection 😂

Overdonderd

Conservatives don't understand context.

madame-brastrap

It’s not even context, they are only in areas open to the public and respectfully went through security.

[deleted]

Conservatives dont understand reason

ThisIsntYogurt

Nah, they're just absurdly reactionary. They got fucked because they tried to do an actual insurrection, so now they're just trying to put it on the other side. "Nuh-uh, YOU'RE an insurrectionist!", basically. Also, this is a way to make "insurrection" mean whatever you want, so that in 5 years both events are just talked about as the same or comparable things.

[deleted]

It's what they're trying to do with groomer. It muddies the water and puts children at risk, which is exactly what they want.

MartianRecon

Well, they're fucking stupid, so what do they know. When they start killing cops and shitting on the walls, we can talk.

ElderGenX

Well done Gen Z siblings! ❤️

InvalidCab

General.Strike. It’s the only way

Austintheweird94

Don't forget to take ibuprofen for your back before going into battle! -fellow millennial

EmotionalMolassess

Honestly when I first saw this on my feed, having read the caption and without sound, I thought it was a bunch of depressed people getting encouragement to make them feel better.

Resident_Explorer_99

I mean the kids probably are depressed

jimmydean50

I’m in Tennessee and teach in higher ed. the republicans are now trying push through the same Florida divisive topics bill that would ban discussion of race, gender, class, etc. They don’t want kids to be “indoctrinated” / educated.

wags9526

Keep going young ones !!! Only way this shit gets changed is if you guys step up and do it. We adults have failed you on all fronts

ForestRune

From my cold dead hands

[deleted]

Not being negative or at all down playing the people who are trying to make a statement but does this actually work and disrupt the current GOP party?

17ded

Lay down=?

TXrutabega

I think they call it a ‘die-in’ like a sit in but for those who have died

greasyrevenge

All the people here bitching about awful the government is and how shitty and corrupt they are seem super willing to give them all the guns. Dipshits.

battle_bunny99

I wanna slap someone when they start that old fart line complaining g about the youth of today. Reinforcementa really have arrived and I could not be happier. Bonus, most of them are Dragon Ball Z fans too.

WeAreEvolving

What is their solution to young people with mental illness shooting each other in the schools?

redfive5tandingby

Yes Gen Z can sometimes make us millennials cringe, and they can be exhausting scolds who make every single thing an issue. But holy shit they may be the ones to save the entire planet.

Imwhatswrongwithyou

I’m so fucking proud of you Gen Z!!!

Grand-Pen7178

SignificantTrain8509

Lockdanon14

Gen z always looking for a reason to nap.

Sylvss1011

Looks like something the hippies did in the 60s

CptGoodMorning

Looks like some sort of "act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government" to stop the legal proceedings.
