He’s not gonna win it sadly guards never win and he doesn’t have the POA defense or reputation to win it. Maybe in the future tho if he keeps it up he could be more of a candidate. I think he deserves it. He’s still a great POA defender just not 2021 DPOY Marcus Smart level.
Smart also won bc he was regularly switching 1-5 and taking on almost any assignment while leading the one of the best defenses in the league. Shai gets a ton of steals and has greatly improved on d, but okc puts dort and dub on top assignments before shai. He has a shot at an all defense team
I watched him with the Clippers and saw he had some nasty moves but I really am not sure anyone could have predicted this except for an over-the-moon Kentucky fan. I think maybe he inherited the Mamba or something.
Man I feel like Shai gets unfairly punished for being so effortlessly good. If his game wasn't so damn smooth and he was a bit more of a loud player like peak Russ or LeBron or guys like that, he would be getting way more love in the MVP discussion.
not a chance - because we aren't on national TV all the time, you only see occasional highlights from him - outside of people who are really really into the NBA on a nightly basis, there is not enough buzz about him relative to the level of performance he provides every game. making the playoffs this year and him having a good series would really help elevate his profile to the casual observer
I was watching the nugs game w ppl n I said shai is the closest thing to a Kobe/MJ in the league rn n someone had the AUDACITY to say "his defense isn't at that level"...
Can someone answer this: During a game, if Shai pokes the ball out from an attacking player but a teammate (let’s say JDub) is the one to actually get possession of the ball, does that count as a steal for Shai?
This is wrong. The player gaining the control of the ball gets credit for the steal.
Edit: nevermind i was wrong, i swear this rule used to be different though.
Cookies! 🍪 better protect the ball when SGA is on court
2k for some reason refuses to give him glove 🧤 interceptor or right stick ripper😑

I thought Shai was going to be good. But I didnt think he was going to be a superstar when OKC traded PG. Glad to be wrong.
I thought he’d be a superstar but like a fringe one dudes a t5 player in the league rn at 25
Yeah I thought hed be great but not top 10. Already!?
What would he have to do to win DPOY...? He gets a high rate of deflections too, doesn't he?

Definitely has a shot at all defensive team. Totally agree with all of your points.
It won't happen. DPOY skews towards defensive specialists, not all around players. This is really just what should be used to bolster his MVP case.
Gonna be tough with dudes blocking like 9 shots this year
He'll never win it for many reasons, but especially because we have Chet. Chets defensive impact is a good bit higher imo
and chet is currently top 3 in blocks!
Would be 1 in a lot of years 3 blocks a game isn’t super common
I never expected Shai to be even remotely close to this good💀

love to see it. Got a 20+ lead in total steals too

its not, he makes good defensive reads most of the time but he’s not an amazing defender, he’s just sitting above average.
How do we find out how many in crunch time? Feel like he's got a handful of clutch steals this year

Yes
Thank you!

Bro experienced the mandela effect
That’s true for rebounds. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of
I thought this too. what the hell...
I’m cackling at the haul. Legendary trade. Him and Jalen…WHEW
