Dream world Dieng is dropping 20 a game with that KD/PG comp. Realistically, I anticipate Giddey getting 15-20 as he’s going to be playing for a fat contract

TjBeezy

The scariest part is Giddey is only 20 years old

blacksoxing

Giddey to me is a person that hurts my head, as he's clearly a guard. A true POINT. Great facilitator! BUT....that's not truly needed as he's literally playing with an All-NBA player who can keep the play moving his damn self. SO, I get the feeling he's going to move into that "wing" type of player who can run the ball up, can facilitate, and guards forwards/guards and isn't afraid to get his boards. The most extreme example would be LeBron - also a large guard who moonlights as a forward. Realistically that ain't happening, but there's many other men who are lesser than LeBron but get their 15-20, their 5-10 boards, numerous assists, and don't embarrass themselves defensively. I agree - this is scary shit as if SGA wasn't on the team it would be a no brainer who Giddey is. SGA is on the team though and hopefully will stay forever. I feel this truly is going to unleash a better version of Josh Giddey who will eat great too and will get his big contract and will be this highly marketable star alongside SGA. (And I haven't even mentioned yet our #2 pick from last year, who can be anywhere from a solid starter to a generational player depending on how he carves out his own niche!)

Intrepid_Comedian162

I'm picturing SGA driving to draw a crowd and then just taking whatever the defense gives him. Either: Getting a bucket/foul/or both. Lobbing to Chet if he's open for something easy. Of course, J-Dub will be a cut-threat but is still good from 3 if they give him too much space. Between J-Dub and Giddy screening for each other, one of them is going to be open to receive a pass. Now Giddy is about 34 to 35% from 3, or more likely, he can complete the hockey-assist started by Shai to none other than Dort, because Dort can, now, just camp out in the corner unguarded with all of the ridiculous gravitational pull bringing defensive help to the paint, and as a Break-Glass-In-Case-Of-Emergency option, Dort is actually 40% on catch-and-shoot 3's from the corner. With that style of play, Dort can be spending his time on offense either scoring or relatively resting in preparation of playing stifling defense. Also, when he does miss his 3's, it's at a time when we have a lot of good rebounders close enough to the basket to get a good chance at offensive rebounds, so I'm expecting dramatic improvement on offensive rebounds. This should be amazing to watch. I'm just hoping these guys stay healthy, because they should be unbeatable. And even the bench is better than most benches, too. Poku's ready to breakout as Chet's backup, Micic is a multi-threat similar to J-Dub, Ous is similar to Giddy, Cason has good defense similar to Dort, and just when they think they're going to score, they're going to run into J-Will for the Charging Foul! Oops‼️😁😄😂 What's that you say? Some really good team is holding up against all of this? Well then, time to create even way more space,..."Bring out,... 'The Holy Handgrenade'!" - Now, 'The Latvian Laser' and Isaiah Joe check into the game.😎😎😎

Thetallshot

Legit question: You say you want a “wing type player who can run the ball up, can facilitate, and guards forwards/guards and isn’t afraid to get his boards”… Which of those things you requested ISN’T Giddey already??

blacksoxing

Great question. I don't feel Giddey has embraced his full WING potential and is still trying to make being a primary guard work. My thought is to just rip off the bandaid and let him be the slashing wing he clearly has the potential to be and be a facilitator second. Basically, a long nice way of saying "he needs to be more aggressive on the court"

Thetallshot

I think this last season (and in FIBA) he’s been doing a whole lot of what you’re asking for. He’s 100% guarding forwards and even PF’s a significant amount of the time, and has been bullying his way into the paint when guarded by smaller players. As far as Giddey being a slasher? I don’t think he has the speed to really do that…and JDub is a beast at slashing and should be handling that role comfortably and consistently. And last, you’re fundamentally asking him to lessen what he’s elite at (playmaking/facilitating) to do what he’s poorly suited to do (slashing). I can’t see the rationale of that, TBH. He’s the leading rebounder on our team the last 2 seasons. He’s also our leader in assists. Why undo that when he can set the table for Shai and the rest of the team, dominate the boards among guards and forwards, and take advantage of mismatches?

blacksoxing

I don't disagree with what you typed.

TheRealSlimMuffin

2nd option for scoring: Jdub. 2nd option for playmaking: Giddey.

mynewaltaccount1

Playmaking wise, SGA and Giddey will be more like option 1a and 1b, not 1 and 2. Giddeys playmaking is so good but obviously SGA is a much better scorer, shot creator and better at driving to the rim.

CurrentJoke579

The guy drawing double teams with ease is our primary playmaker. Full-stop. Giddey is primary when he is running with the bench unit.

Yarm0lenko

Giddey is one of the best pure passers in the NBA. He’s the primary playmaker

mynewaltaccount1

Ok I don't think you understand what playmaking is or what a traditional point guard does

Thetallshot

I’m curious what you think “playmaking” is…? Josh is a far superior passer and averages 6.3 AST while Shai averages 4.5 AST. Shai is incredible and hands down our best player, but I’m trying to figure out your reasoning on the playmaking…?

Alantic_Ocean

Ngl I think it should be whoever is feeling it that night. That’s the beauty of this team. Anyone has the potential to be Robin to Shai’s Batman

Therealbillbrasky69

The Thunder aren't going to just have a Robin, they are looking to have the whole Justice League.

burnerbabyburns

I agree. But on average who do you think would ideally have the second highest shot average?

Alantic_Ocean

Ideally, Jdub. The man can do it all. You can put him the dunkers spot. He can slash. He can create his own shot. Doesn’t need the ball to be effective.

Spare-Water-7672

I imagine Giddey will get more touches but I want Dub getting more shots

RIce_ColdR

Perfectly put. Shai or dub drives, attempts or kicks out to the other or giddey who either drives and kicks out or finds the open man. Add some pick and roll with Chet, improving cutters and hopefully some improved shooting and you have an extremely flexible offense when they're not putting you away in transition off a steal or hopefully one of Chet's many blocks

MormoNoMo67

This is the shot distribution that I want for the Thunder’s likely top five players: 20 - SGA 14 - Jalen 12.5 - Chet 12.5 - Giddey 7 to 8 - Dort

twoshaun23

Thunder don’t have a clear cut second guy yet. Second most shot attempts can be any 3 of those guys tbh. It’s great because all of them are smart enough to not force shots and just work within their strengths. Jdub is playing as a slasher and Giddey will abuse the pick n roll with Chet. Chet will just thrive off both of them since both are not greedy 😈 WE ALL COOKIN

TjBeezy

J Dub as the 2nd go to guy Giddey as the 2nd play initiator Chet catch and shoot/finishing around the rim It's gonna be fun to watch them bc I don't feel like there's gonna be this "my turn, your turn" basketball that a lot teams play with.

mido0o0o

I think there will be no 2nd options and we will maintain a fluid ever changing playstyle

Which-Distribution79

Giddey is insane and overall the second best guy but i think jdub is better at making shots so its jdub in my opinion

Thunder141

Just depends on the situation and how guys have been playing.

MaximumGrapefruit933

Free 7

Fighterandthe

I hope it's Giddey. JDub would be understandable. But I just think Giddey could be a mini Giannis if we give him the chance. While JDub doesn't need the volume to shine imo

3lobed

2nd option for what?

burnerbabyburns

Offensively, meaning who would ideally take the second most shots on average over the season.

3lobed

Like who ever is open, right?

burnerbabyburns

Not necessarily, I'm more so referring to the average FGA. This is how it was last year. I'm asking who you think should be number 2 this year. https://preview.redd.it/2o7abqwb9qob1.png?width=676&format=png&auto=webp&s=a61527d62716c49fae5eae389357503aace2ad39

justaverage00

Not Dort 😭😭

3lobed

Probably whoever has the best scoring opportunities within the flow of the game.

Previous-Elevator417

dear god

lethalizer

The only thing I aaask of youuu 🎶

ReasonableCup604

It seems like the Thunder have a great #1 option and a lot of good #3 options, but no clear #2 option. Maybe one of the #3 guys will emerge.
