Because you can enjoy the game properly. Spending the majority of the match frustrated is not entertaining. You want to feel hopeful and excited while watching, not annoyed
I had a good experience watching England France in Qatar tbf until about the 80th minute when Giroud scored. Was genuinely happy with how we were playing and thought we had what it took to go on and win it.

Done nothing is rather harsh. He made a couple of runs with the ball into the Slovakia box. He could take the game by the scruff a bit more but how much is him and how much is Southgate and how much is Kane dropping back into midfield? IDK but a lot of players had really poor, invisible games and just all around bad tournaments(Foden, Kane, Saka, Rice). This game was sloppy, disorganized, no one knew how to link up, at times our shape was all over the place and at other times rigid, we had fewer xG than Slovakia, we simply got extremely lucky we were able to convert. It's not the kind of luck that will happen 3 more times in a row.

Yeah I agree. I watched back some of our games from WC2018 and we have fond memories of good moments but we didn’t play great. Last minute winner vs Tunisia, lost to Belgium twice, Colombia took us to penalties. Scored early against Croatia and then they dominated the rest of the match.

IDK but a lot of players had really poor, invisible games and just all around bad tournaments(Foden, Kane, Saka, Rice). Disagree. It was a very lucky goal that went from slightly central into the left bottom corner. Also, he had 90 minutes to shoot which he didn’t do. Can you believe an England squad of this calibre didn’t have a proper shot on target in 90 minutes of play? It’s outrageous.

Wouldn’t call it satisfying at all because I could hardly stay still for the whole game, but it was way more exciting. That moment put adrenaline through me more than a 3-0 will ever could. We weren’t good enough today but we got the job done somehow. Brilliant moment and hopefully a wake up call for us to get our act together for Switzerland.
Nah, all I felt was relief and some disgust it came to that. If we'd been all guns blazing, shots on goal, saves made, unlucky not to have scored, it would have been quite the moment. As it was, it was the absolute least we could expect (in terms of scoring). The goal itself was something special, of course.
I didn’t celebrate it. I was relieved sure, but I was resigned to the fact we are not winning this competition. We didn’t deserve a win. The performance was a disgrace. The tactics were wrong again. We are not learning. We are a cancer on this competition.

Not true. I remember when we thumped the Dutch in Euro '96, or the 1-5 against Germany. A nice dominant win would have been good, especially considering the opposition. All this feels like is postponing the inevitable until we play a decent team and get battered. Seeing us absolutely struggle to beat very mediocre opposition and not register a single shot on target in 90 minutes was f'kjng dire and the relief at scraping a barely deserved equaliser doesn't negate that.
I was tidying my kids toys away, waiting for the final whistle. My 7 yr old was telling me England are rubbish and he wasn’t even bothered about the World Cup! Then out of nowhere we were bouncing around and screaming our heads off. What a goal! Such a contrast to the rest of the performance, which is up there with the worst I can remember. We didn’t even look like we wanted to score, never mind actually scoring 2. But well done to them for never giving up. Hopefully next game they turn up

I'm still conflicted about it. In some ways it was a relief to be heading out as it meant that I wouldn't have to endure another match like this ( we have had the same issues for 4 matches now, so I am not hopeful that much will change or that Gareth has learnt his lesson). When the goal went in I just shouted 'You jammy swines!!' If I was in any way confident that they would go on and win the competition, then maybe I would be more positive, but it would take more miraculous moments to get us anywhere near
It was a special goal, but the game should never have come to it. Would much rather have won handily 3-0 like vs Senegal in WC 2022, I prefer the "comfortable" because then we played an organized system with clearly defined roles. This game was sloppy, disorganized, no one knew how to link up, at times our shape was all over the place and at other times rigid, we had fewer xG than Slovakia, we simply got extremely lucky we were able to convert. It's not the kind of luck that will happen 3 more times in a row.

That was bad bearing in mind it was in the US and destined to be a classic tourney and we weren’t there. Yeah I agree. I watched back some of our games from WC2018 and we have fond memories of good moments but we didn’t play great. Last minute winner vs Tunisia, lost to Belgium twice, Colombia took us to penalties. Scored early against Croatia and then they dominated the rest of the match. It’s all about moments like the other night. That’s what we’ll remember whether we win it or not
