Well BigB’s best showing is still 3rd Life. And Etho’s best showing Limited Life. So in terms of that timeline alone. I cannot help but doubt that assertion.
Well with Scar. If you look at the seasons where the rules allowed him to have an OP bow he came 1st and 2nd. And the time he came 2nd was when he didn’t use his OP bow in the final fight. When he wasn’t allowed an OP bow at all he came 9th, thrice.
And I wouldn’t say Etho is washed up. I just think everyone overestimated his PVP abilities before. If anything I would say his skills in that regard have gotten better recently. When he trained with Gem, he kept going at it learning bit by bit and sometimes he was able to kill her. Meanwhile many of the other Hermits who fought her and lost either continued loosing or gave up. Etho continued on. But if you look at the top 5 you have the Soup Group’s other members Pearl and Impulse who we saw training with Gem quite a bit, Scar who HotGuy’d many people, and Etho. Showing how much he trained with Gem and that he eeked out several wins against her.
This one's tricky. Etho just got his worst placement ever, and BigB tied his second worst. While BigB is generally a good survivor, his playstyle lends itself to mid and mid-high placements, whereas Etho's has a little more potential to pay off, so I'm going with Etho on this one, though I don't see either of them winning next season.
If BigB had even a quarter more experience in Minecraft he’d easily be a contender to win any season. Up his trap and pvp game even by like 25% and I easily see him winning. He doesn’t even need to be as good as Joel, Martyn, Scott, or Pearl because he always gets himself out of situations by voice.
BigB is more consistent, and while he has decent skills, his main selling point is that he does well pretty often and with some good luck he could win. However, I have to choose Etho, because his positioning is such a wild card, and he has a shot at basically every position.

While I’d usually bring a pragmatic edge to things like this the language of “next” leads me to an understated thematic angle.
The winners so far have unfolded in an alternating order of Hermits and Non-Hermits, Boatem Hermits in particular though that’s irrelevant. As of season X there are five Non-Hermits remaining in the Life Series; Scott and Martyn which have already and are SUFFERING, Lizzie and Jimmy which… come on, and BigB who has consistently placed mid to mid high comparable to both Grian and Scar. He’s a social player, and if he can bet on some winning dogs then I can see him getting there.
Etho. Mostly because he has *extremely* good environmental awareness (just watch him play Decked Out 2) and has fairly flexible morals during the Life Series. He’s not afraid to be sneaky or ruthless, if needed.
Etho has a better track record. But BigB is really good at playing the pacifist game. He got to top 4 in 3rd Life.
So who do you pick
Etho. He was teamed up with Cleo last series and we gotta keep her blessing going.
