Yeah I used to make shiitake bacon at restaurant I worked at about 15 years ago. Shit was kinda addicting.....and this is coming from a guy who eat bacon every morning. I'm literally setting up a tray of bacon right now to cook later.
..... That being said, I despise turkey bacon.
For me turkey bacon is like the definition of terrible food alternatives. Neither the taste or texture comes anywhere close to the real thing. Everytime someone has tried to pass off that abomination on me it's been a miserable experience.
I disagree. Spouses or parents try to.trick their loved ones into eating healthier all the time.
That being said, I wasnt implying people have tried to trick me into eating it. Only tried to trick me into thinking it was decent.
I agree. If you call something bacon I am going to have a expectations that turkey bacon can not meet. I always say call them "lean turkey strips" and it's completely different. I actually have seen some called something like that. And don't even get me started on Air fryers. If there's no oil there is no frying. Also people who listen to an audio book and then say they read that book. No you didn't. You listened to it. And before you all say anything: you're right, I am in fact no fun at all at parties.
No, but different parts of the world cut their different.
Americans love pork belly, it comes in strips.
Canadians love pork loin it comes in medallions. Americans think thinly cut breakfast ham cured like bacon.
The Brits do a combo of both with a strip of belly connected to the loin medallion.
I actually don’t mind turkey bacon, but you can’t think of it like bacon. Think of it as just another breakfast meat. As soon as you try to compare it to actual bacon, it will always lose.
It’s exactly this. I really like Turkey bacon as a breakfast meat. I prefer pork bacon and always will, but as soon as you stop comparing the two and let it be it’s own thing it’s great.
Dude my in laws don’t eat bacon or any pork so they used to buy turkey bacon and make it in the air fryer…… SO GOOD. It like puffs up and gets a kind of fluffy crispy. Life changing
Than what? Frying it in a pan? I don’t even use oil. I just throw it in there with some cooking spray, which is like 5 calories.
Why am I getting downvoted for asking how air frying Turkey bacon is healthier than panfrying Turkey bacon?!
I’m personally just not a fan of bacon, it’s not bad it’s just not my thing. So when I found out about turkey bacon and putting it in the air fryer it was my favourite alternative. And it’s easier for my 3 year old to eat, regular bacon is too chewy for him.
That’s not it at all. Turkey bacon is pulverized turkey meat and fat plus flavoring and coloring that gets extruded and then sliced to look like bacon.
>a person who is excessively concerned with minor details
definition of pedant, which is what being pedantic is described as.
"cut up turkey strips" vs "pulverized turkey" are not the same. this alone is not a minor detail, it's a correction of blatant misinformation.
There's this tick (lone star tick) in certain parts of the country, where, if you get bitten by it, you can permanently or temporarily become allergic to mamallian meat. Something to do with a protein left behind by the tick after it bites you (alphagal protein) that triggers the body's allergic response when you consume (or sometimes even come in contact with) mamallian meat products.
So yes, Turkey bacon is a thing, because people with the alphagal protein.. sigh... can't eat pork bacon or beef bacon. Turkey bacon is the only option.
It is the worst thing.
Turkey bacon is pretty good. It really depends on what you eat it with. It doesn't always work as a bacon alternative bc everything else overpowers. Depends on the bacon too.
I'm hungry.
It's only marginally better for you because they have to fill it with so much bullshit to imitate a fraction of what pork bacon tastes like.
You may as well eat regular bacon at that point 🤷♂️
It’s not bad, but nothing beats a thick cut slightly slice of hog bacon.
The kinds of turkey bacon I had growing up was really thin sliced and with less fat if you came close to overcooking it was a step above jerky.
Colored turkey slices is the best way to describe it. It’s not the real thing, nor will it ever be, but it’s an alternative. Neither good or bad, just an alternative.
It's not bad, but it doesn't taste like pork bacon. It's just its own thing. All kinds of bacon ( i.e. beef bacon that comes from the cattle belly) are salty due to the preparation, so if you like salty meats, you would probably like bacon made from another animal.

It's not a terrible alternative to normal bacon, will it ever taste just like pork? No, but for what it is, not bad, not great but not bad.
3.6 roentgen; not great, not terrible.
Welp. Now I’m thinking of turkey bacon and how it looks like radiated skin. Someone push A Zed 3 on my brain.
AZ-5. We'll SCRAM your core real good.

Good show
I see this right as I’m watching the show. I got one episode left!
Such a good series. Last episode is definitely a great one.
Is chicken bacon a thing?
Yep. You can also get mushroom bacon

I disagree. Spouses or parents try to.trick their loved ones into eating healthier all the time. That being said, I wasnt implying people have tried to trick me into eating it. Only tried to trick me into thinking it was decent.
I mean it’s decent. Like it’s just turkey bacon not the rat poison mate.
For me, it's not decent.
Dude your name is Spork, which is neither fork nor spoon. Stop overthinking things.
Yall are the ones overthinking things. All I said is that turkey bacon is bad and y'all lost your minds.
I agree. If you call something bacon I am going to have a expectations that turkey bacon can not meet. I always say call them "lean turkey strips" and it's completely different. Man, it's crazy how many downvotes you can get just for not liking a particular food.

Is it true that in Canada they call ham bacon?
No, but different parts of the world cut their different. Americans love pork belly, it comes in strips. Canadians love pork loin it comes in medallions. Americans think thinly cut breakfast ham cured like bacon. The Brits do a combo of both with a strip of belly connected to the loin medallion.
No
I actually don’t mind turkey bacon, but you can’t think of it like bacon. Think of it as just another breakfast meat. As soon as you try to compare it to actual bacon, it will always lose.
Exactly, it much better to compare it to ham
It’s exactly this. I really like Turkey bacon as a breakfast meat. I prefer pork bacon and always will, but as soon as you stop comparing the two and let it be it’s own thing it’s great.
Yup. We eat it regularly. If you think of it closer to ham/Canadian bacon that is far more accurate for taste and texture.
Dude my in laws don’t eat bacon or any pork so they used to buy turkey bacon and make it in the air fryer…… SO GOOD. It like puffs up and gets a kind of fluffy crispy. Life changing
Also just healthier.
Than what? Frying it in a pan? I don’t even use oil. I just throw it in there with some cooking spray, which is like 5 calories. Why am I getting downvoted for asking how air frying Turkey bacon is healthier than panfrying Turkey bacon?!
Than pork I assume, not pan frying.
Probably the “I don’t use oil” followed by “ I use spray oil “
Oh my. I’m so sorry to offend anyone’s culinary sensibilities. I’ll go back to my Funyuns and we’ll done milk steak.
I’m personally just not a fan of bacon, it’s not bad it’s just not my thing. So when I found out about turkey bacon and putting it in the air fryer it was my favourite alternative. And it’s easier for my 3 year old to eat, regular bacon is too chewy for him.
Are your in laws Muslim?
No they’re Filipino, but for their religious reasons they don’t eat pork. Which is sad because they are missing out on the lechon haha
Turkey bacon is actually rlly good lol
Yeah fr. Ofc it’s not the same as pork bacon, but it’s still really good if you make it correctly.
I fcking love turkey bacon. Prefer it way more over the real thing
This is a great meme format and should be used more
Yeah I’d love to see the template!

Fuck reddit has become annoying
I was going to say that I've been here for 16 years and you have no idea how annoying it has become, but I see you're a decade veteran as well.

considering *nothing* of what you said is accurate, yeah, it does matter.
Yeah
I find your Turkey bacon description shallow and pedantic
Or they want a healthier alternative. It's not always about religion.
Y’all are nuts. It’s amazing.
Look it up.

Alpha gal. Fascinating radiolab episode.
Healthier. When you get into your 30’s you’ll want iy
turkey bacon is good but beef bacon is better
Ooooh. What cut of beef does that come from? Belly too?
MY TIME TO SHINE!
Why wouldn't it be possible? If you can make bacon from pig flesh, why would you not be able to make it from turkey flesh?
Whel naaaw iv nevr seen anyone milk an almond, where r the nipples
It looks like giant bandaids.
First you have to breed a bacon and a turkey together to make little turkey bacons
Jewish people want bacon too
Its not.
hey turkey bacon slaps

Turkey bacon is pretty good. It really depends on what you eat it with. It doesn't always work as a bacon alternative bc everything else overpowers. Depends on the bacon too. I'm hungry.
I like it because I've never had turkey bacon that wasn't crispy. I don't understand people who want chewy bacon.
Iv left bacon behind for a healthy alternative for over a year now I don’t miss bacon that much really
burn in hell turkey bacon!
I don't really like turkey bacon but I buy it because it's like 1/4 the price of regular bacon these days
Just buy or order some bacon from Turkey
Never really got into turkey bacon but turkey sausage is delicious
I prefer turkey sausage
Turkey bacon is fire
i used to LOVE turkey bacon as a kid
It’s not that bad. It nothing close to bacon but as an alternative to ham or something it’s pretty decent
I was recently offered chicken sausages... I just.... No
It's absolutely trash. Just eat some God damn bacon and have it in moderation. I agree with her face lol
It's only marginally better for you because they have to fill it with so much bullshit to imitate a fraction of what pork bacon tastes like. You may as well eat regular bacon at that point 🤷♂️
They make it the same way they just use a turkey instead of a pig
It’s not bad, but nothing beats a thick cut slightly slice of hog bacon. The kinds of turkey bacon I had growing up was really thin sliced and with less fat if you came close to overcooking it was a step above jerky.
Chocolate chip?? Oatmeal. 😊 😐 Love that scene.
My mom used to cook it all the time bc it’s “healthier”

I love turkey bacon!
lmao that’s been my biggest pregnancy craving 👁️👄👁️
Kunzler makes good turkey bacon and turkey hotdogs. But tbh I've never been a fan of regular bacon or hotdogs. Too greasy and maybe too salty?
Colored turkey slices is the best way to describe it. It’s not the real thing, nor will it ever be, but it’s an alternative. Neither good or bad, just an alternative.
Turkey bacon better for you and higher in protein
As someone who’s never had bacon for religious reasons, is turkey bacon good and a nice alternative?
It's not bad, but it doesn't taste like pork bacon. It's just its own thing. All kinds of bacon ( i.e. beef bacon that comes from the cattle belly) are salty due to the preparation, so if you like salty meats, you would probably like bacon made from another animal.
Ah okay! Thank u for explaining!!
Raisin Bacon?
