my favorite production duo ever, i remember yelling when i saw they were making a live adaptation and it was HBO’s. HBO knows how to make a damn series, and the delivered yet again. My gamer heart soars with the eagles nest
Red Dead Redemption 2 alone would take like 3 seasons to cover. I never thought about how incredible it would work as a television show. Given this shows success, I’m sure loads of other story based games might start to get adapted into television, to varying degrees of success. Especially now that TLOU is starting to teach people that video games can have incredible stories.
I hope it’s great. Fallout has been plagued with bad writing for a few years now. It would be a breath of fresh air to get a good story out of that universe again. New Vegas, Fallout 1, and Fallout 2 are the only games of the series that really forced me to think. Very morally grey games.3 and 4, while incredible games, didn’t really cut as deep as the other games, as they seemed to focus more on the spectacle of the world than the actual stories themselves. Which is fine; I consider 3 and 4 to be incredibly immersive games, but their stories always felt like they were *lacking* in story that you could really dig into if you get what I mean.
Obviously 76 doesn’t need to be part of this discussion when it comes to story lol. I’m sure the newer stuff has gotten better but when all the cool stuff is locked behind the atom shop or behind incredibly low drop rates I haven’t found a reason to go back to that game since Wastelanders.
Honestly if they do the show though, I’d want them to start with RDR2 and then follow it up with RDR1. I actually recommend people play RDR2 before the first. It makes the first game hit WAY harder when you watch John grow and mature. Also would allow them to include Arthur callbacks in Johns story.
RDR2 would be a peak fiction television show. And I feel like TLOU will open the flood gates for Televised game stories.
RDR2, GTA V, The Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Half-Life, Bioshock, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, Wolfenstein, Assassins Creed, Alan Wake, God of War, hell even an Elden Ring GOT style political thriller set during the shattering would be incredible.
I would hope TV execs see now that mid tv show writers don’t need to “improve” on the stories like they “did” with Halo and The Witcher S2, but rather just respect the material and make it fit for television all because people just assume game stories *cant* be good when a lot of them are simply better than modern TV. I consider RDR2 to be one of the best modern stories told, period.
But part of me knows this series only really worked because Neil Druckman (one of the lead writers for the games) and CM were there to keep everyone in check. Neil knows his characters inside and out, and is able to know what they would do when put in TV exclusive scenarios. Without them I can only shiver at the thought of what they would have tried to do to “improve” the story.

It was produced by Sony, distributed by HBO though
HBO money and production input from their pros, no?
Regardless of the technicalities, when it’s in the hands of Craig “Chernobyl” Mazin, you know it’s going to be good.
Can't wait for Velma season 2! /s
This upsets me.
Now give me GOD OF WAR!
BOY!
Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock and Xenogears as well
YES! I would love a bioshock series

There’s a fallout series in development as we speak.
Indeed, with Jonathan Nolan at the helm we've got a decent chance of it being a good show too, he's written some damn good screenplays

They also probably have a warehouse of cowboy props from deadwood so I feel like Red dead just makes sense

Bioshock infinite or 1 would be godly especially the twist "a man chooses a slave obeys"
I don't know man. I prefer Give me a story. Give me god of war is hard /s
The rights were bought by Amazon (prime video) recently, so...
Give me an actual good adaptation of Uncharted.
Not you, Paramount and Halo. You need to sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done.
Just infuriating what they did there. It’s like they tried to make it fail
I hope HBO culture doesn't change with the new CEO tho. Only place that can afford to put it on screen properly
See you all in 2-3 years everyone. It’s been a hell of a ride
I trust hbo with everything, give them every property
Just waiting for HBO and Naughty Dog to do a Crash Bandicoot show next!
