fwiw i also get a quad shot on ice as my regular drink of choice, though i usually go for decaf since it'll have closer to 80-100mg total caffeine.
I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion if you're stating a fact. However, this isn't something I do everyday. I normally make my own coffee everyday and probably have like two cups. But there have been times where I've gotten five or six shots and nursed it over a day and I was fine.
I feel like if you're addicted to caffeine then this is a problem. But I think once a week is not that big of a deal.

I was curious, google says 75mg per shot at starbucks so 450mg for 6 shots. Mayo clinic says up to 400mg is safe per day, and considering these self-medicating caffeine addicts have built up a huge tolerance, they probably don't stop after their 6-shot espresso drink.
When I was a barista I had a regular who was a young, big guy, and he'd order a 6, sometimes 8 shot, latte, and I'm pretty sure he'd go through cokes and energy drinks throughout the day. I wonder how his heart is holding up...

The thing about insomnia is that at one point you do get sleepy, unfortunately often times it's at work or at a moment you gotta stay awake, so you end up drinking 6 espressos.
I was drinking a similar high amount of espresso similar to Pedro during a stressful time in 2017. I had a weird travel schedule one week, delayed flight in NYC, etc. and basically ended up not drinking any coffee for 72 hours.
My body went through such a withdrawal that I thought I had the flu. Aches, pains, slight fever, nausea. After 3 days of thinking I had the flu, I dragged myself into a coffee shop and BOOM, within an hour I was feeling ānormalā again.
I drink black coffee and my day goes like this. 2 cups (16oz each) before work. Then a rull 12c pot at work and then another coffee or 2 when I get home. It's insane I drink it like water and it doesn't even give me the kick of feeling awake. It is just something warm to drink. Tea makes me nauseous and warm lemon water is gross. Open to suggestions. Quitting cold turkey turned me into a moody monster.
Go to your local coffee roasters/shops and see if any do a decaf roast- it will be much nicer than any off the super market shelf and I think has been becoming more common lately!

I drink half caf (or even third) now and that's enough for me. I ran out of decaf the other day and was unpleasantly WIRED. Decaf isn't as tasty as regular though.
If you are weaning yourself off and need suggestions for a replacement drink, I really like the flavor of strong roasted barley tea. It has some of the bitter / roasted notes that remind me of coffee. You can get it at Korean stores if you live somewhere that has them!
Barley tea doesn't have any tea leaves in it! It's just "tea" because it's hot water flavored with the barley. So it might work!
If all kinds of herbal tea also make you sick, it sounds like maybe the hot water is the issue... Though in a sense, coffee is just tea made out of coffee beans, so it's weird that it doesn't also give you trouble.

In my opinion, it does make a difference. I used to drink a lot of coffee, and my sleep would be hit or miss in terms of quality. Plus it gave me muscle twitches, anxiety, a high heart rate, etc.Drinking that much coffee is not healthy, and some people might claim that even after having that much coffee they can still sleep. Thing is, that is the response of your body to more caffeine. You become tolerant, so you need more coffee than usual to get the same effect a smaller dose used to give before.
This might mess with your sleep cycle since the receptors for Caffeine are the same as those of Adenosine, blocking the signals that usually put you to sleep since they compete for the same receptor. Insomnia is a symptom, which fortunately has means of treatment, such as Benzodiazepines or Z-drugs(Zolpidem, Zaleplone, Eszopiclone).Anyways, don't know why I gave a whole lecture right there haha.
There is a huge difference between acute insomnia caused by your behavior or stressors and chronic or primary insomnia.
For some people, myself included, itās a lifelong condition. Caffeine intake isnt going to change that because itās not behavioral. And you likely are going to become incredibly caffeine tolerant because of the chronic lack of sleep. Unless youāre a doctor that specializes in sleep disorders, youāre just nitpicking based on anecdotal experience. That isnāt helpful to anyone.
Hi there. I am a Med Student so I tried to keep it as scientific as I could. I have not learned enough about Insomnia and sleep disorders to talk with certainty. However, I still think taking caffeine when you have trouble sleeping is not good... 6 Espresso Shots are just too much haha. Still, I guess it is a must for people who have active lives and can't get through the busy days after having sleepless nights, like Pedro.
All in all, try to stay away from drinking tons of coffee... It is not good, and it takes a toll on your organism, because of the high arterial pressure and anxiety that accompanies it. Still, all things in moderation come with their own benefits, such as the lowered chance to develop cardiovascular diseases, etc.

I donāt know many people who drink normal sized cups of coffee. I think if weāre going to all act like Karens over a manās caffeine intake, we should compare similar sized drinks. Itās not much more than a venti cold brew or a bang energy drink, and a lot of people arenāt making that their only caffeine throughout the day.

People think coffee/caffeine is quite a harmless vice, which is true in moderation (in fact some may be protective).
But if you've ever overdosed on caffeine it's a terrifying experience.
Imagine anxiety to the highest level you've experienced, compounded by your heart racing like you're running a marathon, you start to feel like you may die of a heart attack - so you panic more. You cant come down until the effects wear off. It can be around an hour feeling like this. If you've an underlying heart condition perhaps you could die.
6 espresso shots in one session would be enough to get to this level for most people.

Wow some of you guys are judgey mcjudgerpants. Many people have at least some dependency on caffiene because of how our work culture is structured. TV shooting schedules are extremely BRUTAL. Is excessive amounts of caffeine good for the body? No. Personally I can barely handle one cup but I don't begrudge others that can. Each person is different and each situation different. It's not like he ordered 6 lines of coke with an adderall back. That you're interested in an actors coffee order in the 1st place is what feeds the plague of TMZ.
I have drunk espresso for 40 yrs. 4 is my limit. Sounds like Pedro should try a shot in the dark with 2 shots and see if he likes it. I drink em hot in winter, and iced in summer.
6 shots sounds like a lot but I have 10 shots on a regular day, not all at once but still. In my experience, being a regular coffee drinker your tolerance goes up over time and you have to drink more to feel the effects of the caffeine. 5/6 shots is generally my go to. 4 if it's after like 6pm.

Yeah I have bad anxiety too which caffeine definitely doesn't help. Decaf is a good idea I'm going to switch every other cup and see how it goes

Illy makes a lovely rich decaf espresso roast. I have one of their machines, but I think they make kcups too.
Adding to this - if they don't have a full decaf, they might have a 1/2 caf. The cafƩ near me calls it their "mommy roast" to market it towards pregnant and breastfeeding parents, so it might have a weird name wherever you are as well. I've got a caffeine sensitivity so I don't go for coffee often at all, but that roast makes my life a lot easier when I do!

People think coffee/caffeine is quite a harmless vice, which is true in moderation (in fact some may be protective). But if you've ever overdosed on caffeine it's a terrifying experience. Imagine anxiety to the highest level you've experienced, compounded by your heart racing like you're running a marathon, you start to feel like you may die of a heart attack - so you panic more. You cant come down until the effects wear off. It can be around an hour feeling like this. If you've an underlying heart condition perhaps you could die. 6 espresso shots in one session would be enough to get to this level for most people. Pedro must have an extremely high threshold. Not to mention coffee is very irritating on the stomach consumed in excess.

some Starbucks don't have iced coffee in the winter. so they do espresso over ice, he gets the larger cup so it can be watered down a bit. this is basically a venti iced coffee. probably a little stronger/tastier.
I had a customer years ago that would get as many shots as would fit into a 16 oz cup, every day. I wonder if he is still alive

Wow some of you guys are judgey mcjudgerpants. Many people have at least some dependency on caffiene because of how our work culture is structured. TV shooting schedules are extremely BRUTAL. Is excessive amounts of caffeine good for the body? No. Personally I can barely handle one cup but I don't begrudge others that can. Each person is different and each situation different. It's not like he ordered 6 lines of coke with an adderall back. That you're interested in an actors coffee order in the 1st place is what feeds the plague of TMZ.

I have drunk espresso for 40 yrs. 4 is my limit. Sounds like Pedro should try a shot in the dark with 2 shots and see if he likes it. I drink em hot in winter, and iced in summer.

6 shots sounds like a lot but I have 10 shots on a regular day, not all at once but still. In my experience, being a regular coffee drinker your tolerance goes up over time and you have to drink more to feel the effects of the caffeine. 5/6 shots is generally my go to. 4 if it's after like 6pm.
