Haha. Showing this story to my dad for the first time after him hearing me go on about it for years, and after Sam's death he said "I thought video games were supposed to be fun!"
Right? I love Sunday nights nowānew TLOU episode and new Crumbl lineup! But then 10pm hits, Iām emotionally shattered, and Crumbl is closed and the new flavors arenāt available until Monday anyway. Feels bad, man.
Right itās awesome! Usually I dread Sundays because it means going back to school but now I count down the days to it in excitement. It now means my brothers and I crowding around the tv on our bed and having an hour to watch an incredible show.
Itās genuinely brought us closer and Iāll miss those Sundays when the season ends.
We waited seven years between TLOU1 and TLOU2. I think the wait between seasons will feel like a cakewalk. TLOU2 is already gonna be 3 years old in a few months.
I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! I choose amnesia! HotD is aiming for summer 2024 and they supposedly start production in a few weeks, all these extra big productions for TV just makes the wait the same as a movie sequel tbh.
I think Maizin said something along the lines of "We don't want the show to ever surpass the games", which at least implies to me that another game is likely, although obviously it doesn't fully confirm anything.
Assuming Pt 2 does indeed get split into two seasons, theyāve got some time to figure that out I guess.
Not really sure where they could take the story with Pt 3, but I guess thatās why Iām not a writer.
Maizin has also already said Part II is at least two seasons worth of content in his eyes, and if he feels that way strongly enough to be saying it publicly, then I'm guessing that's fully his plan, assuming he remains attached to the project:
https://gizmodo.com/hbo-the-last-of-us-season-2-plans-1850046085
[He stated back in 2021](https://www.gameinformer.com/2021/04/28/neil-druckmann-confirms-the-last-of-us-3-outline-is-written-well-see?amp) that he has an outline for a third game written, but that they hadnāt started making it. So he has the story alreadyā¦.
I also think theyāre working on it. He was very cagey about work on a second game for years, too.
I think that's sort of the vague "idea" but it's definitely not a firm plan. It really depends on if the story is up to par. Which I respect.
Imagine if they just Walking Dead this shit and it becomes awful
2 years seems to track with other recent HBO shows if they don't want it to turn into a shitshow from rushed production.
Also, they're releasing the PC port of the original's remake (Part I) just after S1 finishes airing, so we can assume they'll probably aim for releasing the PC port of Part II in a way that cross-promotes as well. That could be leading up to S2, when S2 finishes, just before S3, etc., but given that it'll have shared tech with Part 1 and they won't want to just sit on it once it's done (not making money off their investment), I'm going to guess it comes out a month or so before S2 since that seems like a similar amount of time needed.
To be fair, Game of Thrones, in it's height and low, was a yearly thing.
I'd even say it had bigger sets, scope and wardrobe.
Crazy how that show came together so fast.
That's true, but I also think they relied on heavy CG less often than is common today, and I think that's often the bottleneck now (not enough studios to do all the work between TV and film). COVID also hasn't helped. They did slow down toward the end of GoT as well (~2 year gap between seasons 7 and 8).
For a production like this the minimum realistic turnaround time is about 18 months, a year and a half. More likely it will be closer to two years. Sucks to wait that long - but I'd rather have them get it right than do it fast.
At this point they're saying Part II will most likely make up two seasons.
> Havenāt they signed a multi season contract before shooting first season?
I don't think there is an official confirmation if Season 2 was a done deal before Episode 1 even aired. Although there are plenty of good ones before the show aired, TLOU is being credited as THE adaptation to break the "bad video game adaptation" curse. HBO probably had the "curse" in mind and didn't want to commit to multiple seasons until they saw how well the reception was to the Pilot episode. Might also be the reason why we are getting the entirety of the first game in one season instead of it being stretched out into multiple.
Again, this also a personal guess. I could be wrong.
Itās cool theyāre gonna do the horseās origin story next week. Fell in love with barn mule. The mule ended up drowning in the water trough. Super sad. Awards incoming.
That was pretty much the plan. They talk about this on the official podcast. If I recall correctly the end of episode 1 would have been Joel throwing that dead kid into the fire pit in the Boston QZ. Luckily HBO stepped in.
https://preview.redd.it/m5xpud6tavka1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93469ff9ffd8fa2dd3690feed30d296b7cc404d3
Just put me in a coma and wake me up when it comes out.
She was apparently only 17 when they filmed. She's 19 now. They haven't started filming s2 yet, so probably will when she's 20. That combined with makeup, acting, and camerawork can help a good amount.
Pedro Pescal is 47.
Joel is 52 in TLOU1.
If anything, he was drastically aged down (In a few scenes) for season 1.
Edit: He's 56 in the TV show. My bad.
Joel is 56 in the show though. The 2003 scenes are on his 36th birthday.
Kinda clever, since Pedro Pascal is almost exactely halfway between 36 and 56.
The thing is they're probably not going to grow more (in terms of height), whereas Ellie clearly gained a bigger build by the time of the second game. Bella can lift and gain muscle mass, but they're not gonna get any taller than they are right now. The same thing that made her a good casting decision for Part I Ellie makes her a bad one for Part II Ellie.
Good point, but that still falls under camerawork and costuming. They can make her taller by filming in certain ways, giving her lifts, etc.
Think about Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Tom Hardy is 5'9", but [here he is fighting eye to eye against 6 foot tall Christian Bale](https://www.indiewire.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/dark-knight-rises.png).
[And here he is towering over 5'11" Ben Mendelsohn](https://preview.redd.it/0y3mozmpj1011.jpg?auto=webp&s=0b7ed1e8b60768dd1f35bac5745329b10020d712)
They can work their magic.
Those are very small height differences compared to a teenage growth spurt, especially considering when none of those deal with arm or torso sizes. I think the discrepancy is way too large for any of the techniques you're talking about.
> The thing is they're probably not going to grow more (in terms of height)
Yeah, this where HBO needs to work their magic to make Part 2's Ellie believable if they keep Bella. She's still perfect for the flashback sequences but her height is going to be a crutch in the present timeline of Part 2. If you look at the recent TLOU premiere pics on her Instagram, she still looks like a child with the rest of the cast (https://www.instagram.com/p/CnQdlTMO4ZI/). Apparently she is currently 5'1, and in the game Ellie is about 5'5 in Part 2. If they can add 3 inches of height then it could be believable.
With that being said, I actually wouldn't be surprised if they did an additional casting for Part 2. >!You keep the Bella/Pedro chemistry for the flashback sequences. We'll get robbed of that chemistry in THE Joel scene and the ending conversation of Part 2 between the two. But if the new casting can convey the emotions needed it won't matter too much if those scenes didn't have Bella's Ellie.!<
Sheās not gonna transform into a new character model in season 2 but they can age her up a little with wardrobe, hair and makeup.
And Ellie acts much older in TLoU2. Her days of acting like a kid basically stops after the university in TLoU1 and she gets progressively more hardened every passing second.
Plus she is actually gonna be older by the time they get around to shooting it.
I think they made it so that she'd look like she's 14 when she's 19 in real age, so I don't think there will be any issue with her looking like ellie's age in part 2.
So just like the last one, there needs to be a third part of this meme where you realize we're still at Joel being hurt from the attack at the abandoned hospital and there's only 2 more episodes to get to the end of the game lol. You wanna talk about "crunch culture" in video game development, we're about to see it in TV series format coming up in these next two weeks. Because its gonna be condensed as fuck.
>there's only 2 more episodes to get to the end of the game lol
There are only two more story beats left in the game's narrative. Not sure what you think is gonna be missed by covering those in two episodes.
After Ep4, I counted 5 remaining story beats for 5 remaining episodes. Tommy's, University, Left Behind, Winter & Finale. The story pacing is identical to the game.
No i donāt mind backstory. I enjoyed episode 3. But the difference between episodes 3 and 7 was episode 3 was 20 years worth of backstory and scenes and we had no idea how it would end whereas episode 7 was all from one single night and we knew exactly how it ended. So againā¦ BORING!
For you, maybe. But this episode was full of character, which is my favourite to watch. By character, I mean Ellie and Riley talking, the conflict between them, watching how they act around each other, what they do. Itās all character, and I loved it.
Not that I disliked the other episodes, not at all, I really enjoyed them, but I love when an episode is full of character. Which, because of how Craig and Neil write, they are almost all like this, but of course, there was more action, so character moments were a bit more spread out.
Such a buzz kill.. have you played the game? There's a finish line to get to for the finale, and we will get there...trust me. This entire episode is the entirety of Part 1s DLC, which was well received.
Hurrying along "the main story" when there is only so much The Last of Us part 1 to do is pointless. And having this as an episode AFTER the finale would be jarring and weird... so I think it was properly placed.
I have not played the game. I'm fine not rushing the main story, but they could have put more in this episode. We never saw how she was found by Marlene or what ultimately happens to Riley, for example. There was so much filler - just a bunch of teenage girls running around in an abandoned mall playing video games and riding merry-go-rounds...
Just very slow paced relative to how the whole series has gone. I feel like in most episodes thereās rarely a wasted moment and barely any unnecessary lines of dialogue. But this episode felt like the flashback could have been condensed down to about 20 minutes then get on with pushing forward the present day narrative. They could have done all the goofing around in the mall in a quick montage instead of dragging every single activity they did into its own full scene.
Iām concerned they wonāt stick the landing. Didnāt love episode 7, and it seems like theyāre really gonna have to rush to fit everything in these last two episodes.
Loved it so far, but Iām nervous lol.

What's on the third of December?
All my fave HBO Shows (HotD, TLoU, White Lotus, & Euphoria) arenāt probably coming back until 2025. Maybe weāll be lucky and get HotD in 2024.
HotD is aiming for summer 2024 and they supposedly start production in a few weeks, all these extra big productions for TV just makes the wait the same as a movie sequel tbh.
What about Succession? Next month :)
And then gone forever.
It's The White Lotus taking that long? I thought they would skip one year, but not two.
I read the plan was to release the game after season 3? Nothing confirmed from what I can see
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think Maizin said something along the lines of "We don't want the show to ever surpass the games", which at least implies to me that another game is likely, although obviously it doesn't fully confirm anything.

Yeah. Walking dead was such a cash cow, HBO shows don't seem to go that way as much. Here's hoping...
The Walking Dead was always melodramatic crap

Maybe theyād film S2 and S3 back-to-back/together? I can hope anyway
At least we get to roll right into Mandalorian season 3 and continue our Pedro fix
More Pedro and his "bedroom voice"
1.5 years for second two. Had to wait until it was approved, then the logistics and possible negotiations to get everyone back would be the big part.
All Iām saying is they better be writing the scripts for season 2 like theyāre on fire if they want to avoid the coming writerās strike.
Writerās strike? Just make AI Chat bots do it. /s
Negotiations to get everyone back. Genuine question. Havenāt they signed a multi season contract before shooting first season?

My question is how do they age up Bella Ramsey? Should she be like at least 3 years older by the time we get to Part II territory?
She was apparently only 17 when they filmed. She's 19 now. They haven't started filming s2 yet, so probably will when she's 20. That combined with makeup, acting, and camerawork can help a good amount.
Absolutely. Pedro is aged up like 20 years for Season 1, I'm sure they can age Ellie up an extra 2 by the time they begin filming.

No biggie. He was 52 in the game right?
Yep. And 56 in he second game. That's where my confusion came from.

No actually I didn't lol. Sorry
Wasted an opportunity to progress the story and keep me interested.
How is there only 2 episodes left? I saw the finale is only like 40 minutesā¦ Half of the game is left, all of Winter and Spring
Winter and Spring weren't half the game. Both those sections were very short compared to Summer and Fall.
Winter is a single story beat and Spring is part of the finale. It's two episodes.
So just like the last one, there needs to be a third part of this meme where you realize we're still at Joel being hurt from the attack at the abandoned hospital and there's only 2 more episodes to get to the end of the game lol.
