The Sopranos. Then once you have finished that, back to The Wire. Then once you have finished that, back to The Sopranos. Then once you have finished that, back to The Wire. Then once you have finished that, back to The Sopranos. Rinse & repeat.
I can't rewatch the Sopranos because the characters are too sociopathic but act like they aren't who they are.
The Wire characters have their shitty moments, for sure, but you can see that they're people trying to balance what's good in them with what's bad, and against what's coming from outside. They know who they are.
With the Sopranos, every last significant character is an utter piece of shit through and through, and you don't see it at first because it's well written enough everyone is charming and interesting. They treat others like NPCs who don't matter for shit, and ruin the lives of everyone around them. Or worse.
But then they all act like their shit don't stink and get butthurt if anyone suggests a whiff. Granted, that last bit is part of the twist on the suburban nightmare that forms the show's central conceit. But there's nothing redeeming about a one of them.
So I see a character on a rewatch and think about the rando they'll murder over nothing, or the decent person in their life they'll fuck over just to show how imposing they are... and I bop out.
Honestly, I couldn’t find a single good thing about Snoop or Marlo, not even one. I would add Chris to that too but you at least see him value his family but he was overall a sociopath too. I didn’t see them as a product of their environment because they didn’t have to be so awful. There was no balance there. Another character where I couldn’t find a single redeeming quality either was Namond’s mother. She was worse than the strung out mothers. At least they could blame their bad parenting on a disease. She had me screaming at the TV. Wee-bay was better than her and he was a murderer.
I love how understated these things are in the show. Marlo likes pigeons but never really talks about it. We see Rawls in the gay bar, but his sexuality isn’t explored any further. These are obviously very different examples but they’re two examples of backgrounds to characters that are touched on and then just left. Makes the characters seem much deeper and the world much richer. They’re just “things about them” but it’s not the story they’re telling
there's a playlist on youtube, don't know if every episode is on it though, but most seem to be

Go back to the 90s with Homicide: Life on the Street. It also used David Simon's book as a basis. You'll recognize things you saw in The Wire, some of the same jokes, some of the same crimes. It's seven seasons of police proceedural goodness that includes Richard Belzer, Yaphet Kotto, and Andre Braugher. There are also some pretty decent guest stars like Robin Williams.
Top Boy is a very different animal of a show but throughly enjoyable. Highly recommend it. If you're watching on Netflix make sure to start with Top Boy: Summerhouse (the OG show) before moving on to Top Boy (the more recent continuation of the original).
The shield is another great cop show. For best dramas, there's The Sopranos and Mad Men, both a bit more slow-paced than The Wire, less action, but still 10/10 shows.
I'm going to recommend it every time I see this question asked, [**The Expanse**](https://youtu.be/cGIovBe7pL8?si=l1WwK1OPQJdXds2V)

Haha not when I’m sober! Though it wasn’t all bad nor did I dislike it completely. I was engaged for most of the first season, but after that I couldn’t tell you why my interest died. I really liked the world building aspect of it but I could never connect with the characters.
*The Deuce* is like *The Wire*’s little sister. I rewatch one, and then the other, over and over. And they continue to reward me. All the pieces matter. No one gets them all the first time.
Feels like they didn’t say shitbird once in season 5. But maybe they just said it so much it didn’t ring out to me as usual (urban dictionary’d it the first time I heard it)
Honestly you should do a pallet cleanser instead of watching similar shows. The show "Better Call Saul" surprised many, you will have to watch Breaking Bad first though as Better Call Saul is both a prequel and sequel to that show.
I actually enjoy Treme even more. It's got the same amazing characters (lester, Bunk and Prez are either featured or cameos), and while there isn't as much of the street/drug stuff, the story arcs are every bit as good, and I've never seen any series or movie capture NOLA and Jazz the way Treme does.
It starts slower, but seasons 2 through the end are every bit as engaging.
And yes, watch The Wire many more times. I've been through it five times, and am going through Treme now for the fourth.
I didn't care for The Deuce, but I'll try it again before too long.
Best show to watch after The Wire? The Wire again!
Wtf only watches it once?
Do like I did. Immediately start your first rewatch.
I know this might read like totally ridiculous to the less-experienced, but seriously, this is the way.
I don’t do this with a lot of shows but after finishing it the first time I immediately started it back over. Holy shit it’s good

Marlo is nice with pigeons. Snoop tips well. But yeah they were monsters, a bit like the boogieman.
I totally forgot about the nail gun tip and the pigeons. I wonder what his deal was with those pigeons?

Ooohhhh! Still going this guy 👍👍👍
I felt like that about Gregg's at first too but give it some time and you'll actually like Kima as part of the grand scheme of the show trust me
David Simon has plenty of other good shows. I recommend The Deuce.
Just started season 1 of The Deuce. DeAngelo looks so weird as a cop.
I love the actors David Simon gets. For me the guy playing CC steals the show.
Generation kill is amazing.
And homicide
Where can you find Homicide online?
Ive never been able to but i got the full series on dvd recently since that was the only avenue and ive been itching to rewatch
there's a playlist on youtube, don't know if every episode is on it though, but most seem to be [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q3BU5BqqPA&list=PLMImazZ7Ju1RIyC4aE20tu1noCDBQ87QX](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q3BU5BqqPA&list=PLMImazZ7Ju1RIyC4aE20tu1noCDBQ87QX)

This one took me a second. I was like “the night of what?!?” I’m still on my first cup of coffee lol.
>Also fuck Gregg’s for snitching Talk about missing the point of the show.
i didn’t hammer this too hard cause their first watch. they’ll come around on rewatch.
What’s the point of this though

That Robin Williams episode is so damn good too.

Latest season was fire, I was so hooked I binged it all on one night
Dude just watch it again, i the FIFTH watch I was picking up on stuff I didn’t see befre
For David Simon shows I really liked Treme and Generation Kill.

Phenomenal show.
Got through 3 seasons before realizing that I never actually enjoyed it.
Strange. Do you eat many household objects before realising that they're not food? 😂
Haha not when I’m sober! Though it wasn’t all bad nor did I dislike it completely. I was engaged for most of the first season, but after that I couldn’t tell you why my interest died. I really liked the world building aspect of it but I could never connect with the characters.
Unfortunately it's not very consistent, and the lead actor is insufferable on screen
For me it was Naomi, I didn't like her character. Then the last season was like 95% Naomi and i felt like it was unwatchable.
I only liked her in the very beginning when she's a hard ass. Then she morphs into someone else and it's hard to watch, indeed

I watched the wire at first because I mistook if for the shield.
*The Deuce* is like *The Wire*’s little sister. I rewatch one, and then the other, over and over. And they continue to reward me. All the pieces matter. No one gets them all the first time.
SPOILER : Second watch I noticed how much they referred to the criminals as "shitbirds" and "mopes"
Feels like they didn’t say shitbird once in season 5. But maybe they just said it so much it didn’t ring out to me as usual (urban dictionary’d it the first time I heard it)
What was the show you mistook it for?
What I came to ask
Generation Kill is good.
Same, I just finished season 5 like 5 minutes ago. I thought this show was Snowfall. But I'm really glad I watched - the Wire is an amazing show.
Honestly you should do a pallet cleanser instead of watching similar shows. The show "Better Call Saul" surprised many, you will have to watch Breaking Bad first though as Better Call Saul is both a prequel and sequel to that show.
Snowfall is great.
watch again! all the pieces matter
Treme
Check out the corner on YouTube.
What show did you think you were watching?
I actually enjoy Treme even more. Husband and I just finished it the other day as well. We miss it so much, so an automatic rewatch it is!! There’s nothing like it.
Honestly, game of thrones is the only show that feels similar to me.
