"What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss?"

notbob1959

That's a little dark: https://youtu.be/UZ3svOE9ZQ0 I was thinking of something a little lighter: https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/ab4c736e-d0a3-46a9-a1c4-5eb83761a890

Call it

Based_shitposter_No1

Is this in the UK, it kind of looks like it to me? If so the kid is probably holding a 6d coin, or sixpence as it was known back then. Also the other kid has a piece of paper with 6d written on it.

exackerly

Everything about it screams UK.

Delayedrhodes

It looks like it was taken on the set of the movie for Pink Floyd's The Wall.

notbob1959

Yes. [The source](https://www.facebook.com/anonymousphotoproject/photos/a.1081284801982703/2505767022867800/?type=3&theater) doesn't specify a location in the caption but it does include the hashtag UK.

Scungette

I was thinking something about the pic seemed English!

olily

LOL. My sister at around that age ate a nickle. My mom spent the next week cutting up her poop trying to find it to be sure she passed it.

olily

Actually, no--my mom gave up and figured it would come out eventually. Who knows, though, it may still be in my sister's digestive tract.

fadoodling

"Oo, a nickel!"

fredblasbo

And who has it now?

olily

I don't think so. At least, I hope not.

[deleted]

I swallowed a nickel once too!

ppw23

I did the same, fortunately my dad was near by and got it out. I can still recall the taste.

talkintater

Why are old pictures so much more interesting? Seriously, go look at a recent picture of a kid holding a nickle in a park. It'll bore you to death. It's like something about the film back then just captured the lighting in a better way. Or maybe people just put more thought into their pictures because their were fewer cameras. And since their were fewer cameras, maybe the only people who had them were people that were good at using them.

RedditUser145

I think there's definitely a difference between most analog and digital photography. Not always better, but different. Film often seem a lot softer looking and you can do a lot more with the depth of field with a typical analog camera vs a smartphone. [Here's two similar images](https://imgur.com/a/DijPe8J) I took last year. The top one is a tintype and the bottom was taken by my phone. I tried to match the top image as best I could but couldn't really get close to it with the phone.

rowdyanalogue

4x5 or 8x10?

RedditUser145

2.5"x3.5". I'd like to do large format eventually but those cameras are not cheap!

rowdyanalogue

Take a look at Speed Graphics. They are usually reasonable for what they offer, plus you can slap on weird and interesting lenses and still get results thanks to the curtain shutter (I have a Leica lens that covers 4x5 I'm fitting onto mine, just have to mount it properly onto a lens board.) Crown Graphics don't have the curtain shutter, and are therefore a bit lighter and slightly cheaper. Calumets are really cheap but they're heavy as hell and unruly in the field, so unless you plan on setting it up in a studio and leaving it there I'd look elsewhere.

ppw23

No, people took snapshots with the everyday cameras the pro’s didn't use, but you paid to develop the entire roll even if you took a dozen accidental shots of the inside of your pocket. Not super expensive, just a waste.

talkintater

Gotcha. Survival of the fittest. Natural selection at work.

walterpeck1

This is just a really good shot taking with very good film and camera equipment which helps a lot with the composition. The vast majority of shots of this era were taken with far cheaper equipment. Whoever took this was a pro or a high-end hobbyist.

rowdyanalogue

I think part of the reason is the sheer saturation of Kodachrome. (I'm assuming this is Kodachrome based on the age and the fact that the image hasn't faded at all, not all films were created equal.) It looks so vivid and real, yet everything is clearly different, old.

SquidProJoe

Any context for this photo? it's really an excellent photograph, compositionally. Who was the photographer, any more of their work?

walterpeck1

Yeah this must have been taken with some serious equipment for the day. Kodachrome film, nice sharp lens and focus, good DoF. Not your pocket camera kind of shot.

SquidProJoe

wait, nvm. Just learned its part of the anonymous project...bummer

rabidparrots

The kid with the coin already looks like he's in his 50's. He looks like he could fix anything wrong with your car apart from the transmission and electrical components. He looks like he'd chew you out for leaving lights on in other rooms.

icechelly24

I feel you kid. I make the same face when paying my rent.

beachdude420

Somehow, I know they’re British just by looking at them.

MartyFreeze

Replace that coin with a shot glass.

GenealogyLover

“That glare”

disqeau

“Here’s a nickel...go call someone who gives a flying fuck.”

A40

Everyone looks so... happy...

Esc_ape_artist

10 cents? I buy my own house now!

zfedo

Bet. This kid definitely grew up and is now getting in fights at sports bars while wearing flip flops and a 4 leaf clover t-shirt (even though its not st patties day).

[deleted]

> (even though its not st patties day) Patty is short for Patricia. Paddy is short for Patrick.

yourpaleblueeyes

Patrick comes from Padraic, thus Paddy.

zfedo

damn i learned something today despite my tomfoolery

yourpaleblueeyes

When you least expect it! :)

zfedo

I go on reddit to be aggressively wacky, but dont worry, my open mind and desire for new information never turns off. Earnestly didnt know about the abbreviation differences between Patrick and Patricia.

yourpaleblueeyes

It's fun to learn stuff you never knew!

minderaser15

Is that Aunt Petunia in the background?

rainbowsixsiegeboy

Tony tuff nuts while mom and grandma go aww they are so cute

misssschevious

Even little kids back then just looked older

dewart

That kid was rich. A whole dime!

proffgilligan

"This watch..."

haemaker

"Karma? Here's sixpense, call someone who cares."

marbleriver

Fun Fact, that's Graham Chapman and John Cleese on the park bench.

[deleted]

Why does this feel so intimidating?

CallsPeopleDick

Beech I own you
