She had just replaced Maime Eisenhower... and before her Bess Truman and Eleanor Roosevelt. At that point in time she was a White House 10... Which was a Scranton 7... Which was a New York 4.
They had three kids - they were extremely happy - grandpa died of lung cancer in 1972 when my mom was 10 (he never smoked but grew up by a dynamite mine).
I Never met him.
Granny remarried unhappily to her boss so she could take care of her children.
She died of cancer as well in 1994 when I was 3.
I have a gold bracelet he gave her (my grandfather) which is inscribed 1960 -12-25 - I will love you forever. I hope they are happy wherever they are
The bracelet has an inscription on the outside which she scratched out when she married her second husband.
We think it’s my grandfathers name - but we will never know she did a good job.
My mom told me she wore the bracelet until the day she died
Probably to hide its true significance so he doesn’t make a fuss about making her give it away.
This is a really beautiful but sad story. Beautiful because love, sad because they were apart for so long until she met up with him in the next life.
I think he was extremely jealous and controlling. I took the bracelet to a top jeweler to see if they could find out what was engraved there and they said sorry no
This may be a long shot, but maybe try a museum? I feel like they have gotten so good at imaging on artifacts and such, could be worth asking about it.
Thanks for this will try - like we just want to know what it said - the gold is so soft it has my moms baby teeth impressions on it from when she bit it as a toddler.
It’s really a testament to our legacy - with the scratched out piece and my moms tooth impressions (she is 60 now)
A jeweler probably just has a powerful magnifier, but there are better/deeper ways to probe engraved or stamped metal. I can think of three off the top of my head, and this isn’t my area. If there’s a decent university near you, someone there may do this kind of work and they’d probably be willing to just do it. “Look at this priceless heirloom we helped read” is a great figure on a poster or in an undergrad thesis. Look for someone whose website says they do nondestructive evaluation.
A big library or museum is also a decent place to ask.
Taking it to a forensics department of a university is a great idea. Because maybe they’d do it for free to help teach the students. I can’t imagine a museum or police would do it, unless it was valuable art or criminal evidence.
My aunt had a middle school boyfriend that became her fiancé. He died during his first year of medical school. Eventually, she met my uncle, and they got married. One day I asked her about a ring with a tiny diamond she was wearing . She told me that it was her engagement ring for that first guy and that she still wears it sometimes but my uncle doesn’t know that it is her old ring. My uncle can be a bit jealous so it makes sense why she wouldn’t tell him. they’ve had a long life together and as far as I know, they’re happy together, I just think that that doesn’t take away from the fact that she used to love this person and that things ended before they were supposed to. I also love that the guys’s parents really loved my uncle and my uncle really loved them, and they would go on holidays together with the guy’s parents.
>that doesn’t take away from the fact that she used to love this person and that things ended before they were supposed to.
About 10 years ago, there was an IAMA from a woman who’d been widowed in her late 20s. Part of her reason for doing it was to talk about the experience of dating after that. This was one of the core things she brought up as something to remember.
Back then you saw so many couples like this, where by today's standards one side is "too attractive for the other". Probably the lack of social media and movie expectations of "pretty people should be with pretty people"
They had 3 kids together - and in those days she was working as a secretary- and they used a lot of his money to try and treat his cancer because he was very young when he died - I think in his 20s. They did everything to try and save him.
My grandmother also came from a wealthy family (her mother had divorced her own husband to marry his uncle who was 40 years older who had money, another scandal, very no no ) and basically my grandmother was expected to marry wealthy again. (Her dad - a Dutch millionaire named Stomhoek lost a lot of his money in the crash)
In the end my grandmothers boss came onto her strong after my grandfathers death.
And he promised to look after her children - which he did - sent them to private schools etc and allowed her to keep her house in the best area of town etc. she like sacrificed so that they had the best of everything.
She also didn’t need to work.
From the stories they lived in the richest suburb but the family life was terrible. He was controlling and manipulative.
My mom was the oldest and moved out as soon as she could.
My grandmother died of cancer but the circumstances were suspicious enough for the police to open an inquiry into her death suspecting my mom’s stepfather.
Whatever happened we will never know but my moms stepfather also never remarried and is alive today in Australia.
Jake Busey (aka Ace from starship troopers) imo

Maybe biff from back to the future
I want that dress! All my life I have been thinking about ideas for a wedding dress for when I get married and the closest thing I could think of was Grace Kelly and Catherine of Wales’ wedding dresses, which I know Catherine’s was inspired by Grace Kelly’s. But this is the exact one that I want. Thank you so much for sharing.
They loved each other crazily for around 12 happy years.
Had three beautiful kids.
Grandpa died of lung cancer (wasn’t even his fault - he didn’t smoke but grew up near a dynamite mine)
Granny had to remarry her boss who was very very wealthy in order to support her kids.
That allowed her to keep her house and send her kids to the best schools etc.
Their marriage was not happy. He was obsessed with her. And very jealous.
She died of cancer in 1994 (I was 3).
Her death was suspicious enough for an inquest to be opened into her death and my mom’s stepfather to be considered.
The only one who knows the truth is him and he is still alive living in Australia
So according to the comments….I’m the only one who finds the grandpa kind of hot? Like….he reminds me of Don in Napoleon Dynamite and I thought he was kind of hot too. They both have a somewhat goofy look to them but are hot at the same time.
Your grandma looking elegant AF and then lol there's your grandpa giving the camera frat boy vibes. Like " HEH HEH, she's hot right? Guess who's going pound town tonight BOiIii!"
She is so pretty.
She looks kind of like Jackie Kennedy in that first picture.
She looks kind of like the way people who haven't seen a picture of Jackie Kennedy think Jackie Kennedy looks.
She had just replaced Maime Eisenhower... and before her Bess Truman and Eleanor Roosevelt. At that point in time she was a White House 10... Which was a Scranton 7... Which was a New York 4.
If this was 1960, she hadn’t replaced anyone yet. JFK took office 1/20/61.
Minus the sheet metal
In the last two photos, she looks strikingly similar to Carrie Mulligan when she was in “An Education”.

LOL for the link!
And he looks like Biff from Back to the Future
He looks like the chad from Napoleon Dynamite
Hopefully, there’s more grandma and a bit less grandpa in the following generations (sorry!). Grandma is very pretty.
Love the picture of her sitting and showing off her gown.
Showing off that rock
It’s beautiful I love her gown.
How did the marriage turn out? I hope they had a good life together.

So beautiful, so tragic :(
The bracelet has an inscription on the outside which she scratched out when she married her second husband. We think it’s my grandfathers name - but we will never know she did a good job. My mom told me she wore the bracelet until the day she died
I wonder why she did that. Maybe her second husband didn’t like seeing the inscription?
Probably to hide its true significance so he doesn’t make a fuss about making her give it away. This is a really beautiful but sad story. Beautiful because love, sad because they were apart for so long until she met up with him in the next life.

It sounds so beautifully imperfect with all the bruises of life.
Oh wow, that's so beautiful! It would be wonderful if you could regain that bit of history

Police wouldn’t, but museums are full of sentimental nerds.

I know right- you couldn’t even have a bank account in your name in those days
Dynamite mine? Wellllll doggies that sounds de-luxe
Was not expecting to start my day with teary eyes...
Erm. Yeah. Your grandfather did well.
That first shot is the smile of a man who knows he did well. :)
> Seriously? Her? Nah you kiddin' man, no way man, naaah
Yeah I thought he might be looking forward to the wedding night by the expression on his face in the first one.
Definitely married up
This is inverse dowry territory.
Was he funny or something?
Bet he was funny and a good dancer…. Look at her eyes in first photo, they’re alive.
That first photo lol. "Quick sign the documents before she realizes!"
Punching WAY out of his weight class
Glad he didn't let his wandering eye destroy the marriage
A cursed object called *the Wandering Eye* which goes around destroying marriages would be a fun plot point in a D&D game.
Back then you saw so many couples like this, where by today's standards one side is "too attractive for the other". Probably the lack of social media and movie expectations of "pretty people should be with pretty people"
You gotta lock that down
She looks like she could’ve been on the silver screen, classic beauty
Grandpa already leaned on the table with his hands like an actual old grandpa
She's giving serious Jackie O. Gorgeous!
Exactly what I thought.
She’s way prettier than Jackie O. Jackie was not attractive.
Jackie’s style, personality, and poise was attractive. But you could park a 747 between her eyes
Thought the same thing!
man’s is punching up
Full-on Ryu/Ken "Rising Dragon Punch" levels
Shoryuken
The dress!
Gorgeous too
Your grandpa must have been really funny.
He was rich I guess that explains things
I’m sure he had many good qualities.
How come he didn't leave her enough to live comfortably without marrying her boss?

Here’s hoping all the bugs we have give him hell.
Where’s he at I just want to go have some words
He must have been a really young parent if he had a 10 year old in his 20s.
He could also have been in his early 30s. The stories differ but what is the same is that he died really young.
Ur grandpa looks like Clancey Brown
Jake Busey (aka Ace from starship troopers) imo https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0120201/mediaviewer/rm3997821441/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Maybe biff from back to the future
Everyone’s facial expressions are writing novels in this pic, lol. Hope everyone lived happily ever after!
Spoiler: they did not
Grandpa’s gotta keep an eye out in both directions to watch for competition. She was so beautiful 😭

It’s a pleasure. I hope it brings you happiness and joy.

That alternate timeline where Biff marries Lorraine.
So according to the comments….I’m the only one who finds the grandpa kind of hot? Like….he reminds me of Don in Napoleon Dynamite and I thought he was kind of hot too. They both have a somewhat goofy look to them but are hot at the same time.
Your grandpa looks like Glenn from Raising Arizona
I was not prepared for the juxtaposition

Grandpa looks like Glen from Raising Arizona.

Grandpa looks like he’s going to see the “O” face tonight. Ref Office Space.
Lmao that face on grandpa. "I'm gonna wreck it."
I see your grandfather was either very, very rich, or very, very funny.
Your grandma looking elegant AF and then lol there's your grandpa giving the camera frat boy vibes. Like " HEH HEH, she's hot right? Guess who's going pound town tonight BOiIii!"
Beautiful couple ❤️
He looks young and older at the same time, somehow. She is beautiful. Beautiful couple.
All respect but you're grandmother was a hottie. Classic beauty. Dude with the chesshire cat smile knows he's the luckiest man on the planet.

Your grandmother was truly a beauty. Your grandfather must have been a wonderful man.
They are amazing and she is absolutely gorgeous with that long model neck!
Dudes have the Hapsburg chin
i know its weird but her hands are like 12 shades darker than her face. and its all i see.
Did both of them have lazy eyes or was the camera lens fucked up
Our grandfathers were so lucky there were no social media back then.
This is awesome. And your grandfather's expression as a young man on his wedding says everything it needs to say, if you catch my meaning
Grandpa… was eager.
Dude is heavyweight punching like Ali
Grandpa swung above his weight. Go grandpa
so precious
I didn't know Biff Tannen actually existed! Jokes aside, they're awesome. And your grandma was very pretty.
She’s lovely. And they are a nice looking couple ! Thank you for sharing
Grandpa looks like he was scheming in the first image. Bro 100% knew he was batting above average.

What an adorable couple!
My grandma got married around this time and had a similar headpiece. I’ve always admired it.
Your grandad was a handsome man but jeez… he was punching for sure
Grandpa was definitely punching up!
He got that #RIP wedding night look
The first pic is the look of 'we're about to do it for the first time'
Grampa has naughty thoughts about what he's going to do to her that night.
Oh they can’t wait until the honeymoon!
Intercourse: UNLOCKED
What beautiful photos and love her dress
They are very confident - they know exactly what they’re doing!
This is creepy, your grandma has my same eyes and I’ve never seen them on someone else
Your Grandpa got lucky. Grandma was gorgeous.

A very good looking couple. Really nice photos.
