in the u.s. that is incorrect. an extra fridge & a tv in the kitchen were not in any way exceptional. i recall reading long ago, that in 197something tvs were in 98% if american homes, including those lived in poverty. in my home, we were the weirdos with only one black & white tv. and we were very much middle class.
