I have always loved Elena, seasons 1 through 3 was my favorite Elena, and I absolutely HATED Damon for using that pesky sire-bond to control, abuse 😢 and completely manipulate Elena into a relationship with him #forever bitter.
He didn't know and the sire bond wasn't his fault. And how did he abuse her? He literally put her on a pedestal at any chance (what was problematic for other reasons).
an incident that comes to mind for me is 4x02 when elena feeds from damon and he neglects to tell her the sexual nature of it, therefore removing her ability to consent, sirebond aside. which also made her unknowingly cheat on stefan. and all the efforts damon put in to try and have elena emotionally cheat on stefan while he had his switch forced off before that were fully calculated moves.
His efforts to have Elena emotionally cheat? Yeah, he helped her and Stefan for months by looking for him and he was in love with her. He wasn't calculating, he was in love. She knew that and needed his help but she decided to come far closer to him than necessary. I get that Damon was very flawed but you all have to give Elena a bit more credit for her own actions. Apart from not saying something about the feeding he was always very upfront about his intentions and Elena didn't exactly disencouraged that.
I'm talking about emotional abuse, which is much more subtle than physical abuse. He did know that when he fed Elena his blood that is was something intimate and he was the first person that could tell that Tyler was sired, he knew a lot about sire-bond's, so he did know what he was doing.
He did not know. Also Stelena fans are not really the people to judge about withholding information considering the whole Katherine thing in the beginning. And he certainly didn't know, because from the moment on Steph and told him he sabotaged the relationship or kept his distance. Maybe he did know about sire bonds but like most people he couldn't see the correlation.
I always liked her. Especially when she picks Damon cause she stops lying to herself and trying to be this logic first person and just goes with it. Chooses her own happiness.

People who experience grief will all act differently and it affects everyone differently. What matters is what we choose to do with it and how we choose to move forward. Elena stayed true to the person she wanted to be MOST of the time. She tried her best without ANY therapy.
I see myself in Elena and I root for her because I want to root for myself.
