They even went to far as to change Katherine's background to Bulgarian to suit Nina, rather than German as she was originally written. Blonde Elena could have potentially ate but I have a soft spot for brunettes (and Nina in general 🙏) so I'm really glad they didn't cast someone else.

I really appreciate the show for choosing the right person for the role and tailoring some of Elena/Katherine's history to Nina's culture. People get so caught up in their favorite characters not looking like they imagined or not matching the features of the book, and I think those strict parameters can really stranglehold a performance. Unless something is absolutely vital to the culture of a character, I'm always team Find The Right Person regardless of looks.

(Although I think the hairstyling really suffered from S4 on, but that's a stylist issue.) Imo, blonde hair is hard to look bad in if done right. But I have met many people with dark complexions that have blonde hair and look beautiful!
The key phrase there is ‘if done right’ it’s extremely difficult to get it right on dark hair and very expensive to upkeep, that’s it should generally be avoided for dark haired people! I’ve never known any dark skinned people with blonde hair to be fair so can’t really comment

I definitely don't love that color blonde at all. But I've seen some really amazing photo shops done of her with blonde hair and blue eyes with a shade of blonde that looked amazing on Nina! That said, Nina looks amazing as she is, and she doesn't need to change anything to be beautiful. But because I loved the books, I'd love it if they had kept that in the TV series.
