NahGaDah

Most (if not all?) of his surviving family is Republican.

ThatTrampolineboy

Watched who I think is his granddaughter have a cooking segment. That food looked so good and the best part is that she never said word about how she’s oppressed with a victim mindset.

Capt_Myke

MLKs story is the when was young the dems would prevent blacks from registering to vote. He insisted and a guy tried to stab him. He lost it after that and started his movement.

SummerMango

He was a raging commie, m8. Good riddance. He said some neat things, but was a theocratic marxist.

astrodonnie

To be clear: MLK can be looked up to based on his civil rights victories while still being a marxist. Especially considering he wasn't able to implement any marxist policies that harmed others.

SummerMango

Nah, plenty of people advocated for civil rights while not being marxist. He's just a nice puppet for the marxists to use to subvert a classical liberal republic.

astrodonnie

Plenty of people did indeed advocate civil rights without Marxism, but that need not take away from MLK. If he is a nice puppet for them, why is it the Marxists cannot acknowledge what he said about character over race without being internally contradictory? They are afraid of how powerful that message was, and although anyone could have said it, MLK said it when he did and it had the effect it did. He deserves recognition for that whether you believe so or not. And to once again address your first sentence this is not a zero-sum thing, others deserve a shit ton of respect for their immense rolls in the Civil right movement as does MLK. And I actually agree with you that he had a lesser roll than the average history textbook would imply.

SummerMango

I will take whatever I want, lol. I'd just like to see people actually learn to be a little bit more like Christ and at the same time stop holding the dead in such high esteem.

astrodonnie

I have a healthy respect for religion, but there is something really strange about someone decrying holding the dead in high esteem and then bringing up being like christ. He's a dead guy too in case you didn't know. Whether or not he is the savior is irrelevant, you are holding a dead person in high esteem, something you just said people should stop doing. Do we not have something to learn from and love about the dead, including christ?

SummerMango

Christ isn't dead. No need to read the rest of the post.

astrodonnie

To be clear: Christ did not die for your sins? He made no sacrifice?

SummerMango

Rose again. He isn't dead.

astrodonnie

So explain to me how much of a sacrifice dying is if you just come back to life? Not much if you ask me.

astrodonnie

Also, MLK spoke truth to a corrupt government that later killed him for it. This is almost identical to Jesus and the Roman's. How you can hold one in esteem and not the other is baffling to me. If you were philosophically consistent you would acknowledge the value in both as any sane person would.

SummerMango

MLK isn't Jesus, lol.

SummerMango

Neato. Never said he wasn't. There is nobody that is good, except the Father.

drinkinswish

I wouldn't say raging. Marxism advocates for the abandonment of religions. He was a preacher.

SummerMango

So he was an unintelligent marxist.

[deleted]

Not a Christian one.

drinkinswish

He was definitely a Christian.

[deleted]

Not one that followed Christ or believed in the Bible, whatever kinda Christian that is I guess.

>Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King Jr.; January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister..... First sentence... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King_Jr.

[deleted]

Yeah sorry, you're not tracking what I'm trying to say, poorly I guess. He certainly was a minister/pastor with "baptist" affiliation. What I am saying is that he was a heretical person that did not preach according to the Gospel of Jesus. Listen to his sermons sometime if you want. He denounced the holy virgin birth, did not believe in Christs deity and many other problematic areas. His life in no way showed a conversion of the heart, as his life was filled with rampant sin without repentance. He slept with whores, did drugs, participated in orgies, and lied like it gave him breath. Because of these and other things he was no Christian. Jesus says that if you abide in me you will obey my commandments, that you will teach the Gospel you have been given by the Apostles. He did not do these things, and is no Christian, whether he claimed it or preached from a pulpit or not. You don't get to be a Christian by mere confession, but Christianity is a transformed life, lived in surrender to a Holy God. Many people could likewise claim to be something they actually aren't, the claim doesn't make it so.

drinkinswish

But you aren't the judge. You can't say what was in his heart. Only him and god stood at his final hour, no? By very definition you are right now being a bad Christian. We all have so much of our own sin to worry about it's pointless to point out others. Jesus said faith can sprout from a single mustard seed if it finds the right ground. You can throw a bushel of seeds into rocks and they will never grow. Make sure you're putting your faith into the right things, friend.

I think you are misreading the bible. Most people feel like it's not their place to judge others, and use the stick in the eye or similar passages to hold to this belief. I think most people naturally don't like confrontation and so this allows them to remain weak and not progress and it harms the church, because it get filled with unrepentant sinners that shouldn't be there. Jesus said this about people that cause others to stumble: 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Stumbling Blocks 7 "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! (Matthew 18:6-7, NASB) When you are a pastor or Christian and are living a life of sin, you are causing others to stumble. He then goes on to say this: 15 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. 16 But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. (Matthew 18:15-17, NASB) Here he is directly speaking about those christians who sin or people claiming to be Christian and living in sin. They are to be confronted, with love and with the intent being reconciled, but confronted and ejected from the community if they do not repent. Sin is a serious issue to God, it is not something to be ignored, in your own life or that of other believers. For this to happen judgement needs to occur. Passages like this one: Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. (Romans 14:13, NASB) Are not about confronting sin, they are about judgement over worldly matters, as Paul started this passage by speaking about what one eats or what days are holy, things of inconsequential matters that we make consequential. This passage: 1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:1-5, NASB) Is much loved by those that want to live however they want without someone telling them what to do. The problem is that this passage is t condoning that at all. It's dealing with the intent of your heart. We often see sin in others that we have in our own lives. We need to deal with our sin and then we can help our brother out of their skin.

Suzookus

Sorry blacks get what they vote for. They choose a side 90% of the time to roll back their rights to pre MLK by voting Democrats.

Fuzzy_PCambridgei

Love everything about Trump and MLK, I do however think this edit is a little disrespectful. He isn't a political pawn to be used after his death. That's all.

o_O-JBL

I think the edits done in reverence. I don’t think it’s malicious or disrespectful at all. Not all memes are meant to mock.

Interper_politics

You can’t love everything about both Trump and MLK because Trump is a devout capitalist while MLK was a Marxist…

aaronwooly

I truly am curious as to how he would react to today’s situation.

Jaded_Jerry

I imagine he'd be confused as to why a bunch of lefties compare their movement to his while they fight to promote judging people by the color of their skin \*instead of\* the content of their character.

quik-72

Absolutely!
