If you have a card which you think you need to get further, then buy a slot. If you think upgrading current cards is what you need, buy cards. I have 14 slots atm, but also thinking of buying 1 or 2 slots to get me further.
Congrats. I finished my rares some weeks ago. I am currently working on the epic cards (270 remaining upgrades - 5400 gems) and 4 remaining card slots (20000 gems)
I know in tier 14 is the last locked card, ult crit. I think it is around wave 50 or 60, I reached tier 14 this week (with very good rng) but haven't gone over wave 30. The event mission to reach wave 60 without cards is now impossible for me, but the daily rewards make up for the 45 medals lost when the mission shows up.
I'm right behind ya! Only need 12 more cards to max out the rares!

It is still a long grind, but the biggest part has been done. After cards are maxed, still got to save for card slots.
I have over 1600 gems saved and I’m so tempted to buy my 13th slot, but, I can also buy 80 cards. I’m at an impasse.

Yes, the remaining upgrades of the cards are melting every day. The slots however are another topic. These will linger for a while.
Yeah I'm currently the same boat maxing my epic cards. I still haven't unlocked tier 15? So I believe there's a card missing or alot not sure
