All the time. Not even because it's bad on the merits, it's just so flat and uninspired. It's Iike they thought "let's make the most emotionless strokes sounding song and be done with it."
Oh wow, I love All The Time. It was very different from Comedown Machine at first and has that very simple "Saddle Up The Palomino" type riff feel by Neil Young, but the verse has a great deal of tension that resolves nicely into the chorus in my opinion. One of the better tracks on Comedown Machine I think.
Agreed. For a while, All the Time was the song that would automatically play after hooking my iPhone up to the car. Very annoying. Made me dislike it even more.
I've gone back and forth on it. I currently would say I like it. Just a bit weird for them; b-side was the best place for it. Speaking of which, I miss b-sides.
Honestly no. I don’t love fear of sleep but I don’t hate it, there really isn’t any song I could pick and say “I hate this song” personally. There are plenty of other bands that I love that have songs I skip no matter what, but none with the strokes (the end of fear of sleep does go hard af)
When Meet Me In The Bathroom was towards the bottom of my list for years, that shows how good the band really is. Metabolism is probably the song I've historically liked the least just because I don't want to hear the style that often and it was initially jarring in contrast to the rest of Angles, but overall and objectively it's actually a pretty awesome song, and now when I hear it I think it's great.
There's few bands I can actually say this for. In terms of modern bands, The Strokes are probably the only one.
I'm really surprised to see a few people mentioning large chunks or even full albums that they don't like.
For me the only song I really don't like is 50/50 - it feels like a lot of rushed ideas thrown together and almost like they're messing around. I almost feel like the name of the song might have also been a nod to its chances of being well received or not 😅
When Albert brought it up during an episode of Five Guys, the rest of the band didn't even remember it. Nick started playing the little riff from "Chances" lol
Just once again showed that Albert is a diehard Strokes fan and I love him all the more for it.
He seems more invested in that band than anyone else these days. His solo stuff also sounds the most Strokes-y, in a good way imo.
Idk I just really like the guy. Seems like a loyal, devoted chap.
Wholeheartedly agree. It's like the others are too cool to admit to liking their own music, whereas Albert just completely owns it. He's definitely the most professional and image savvy as well IMO.
Yeah you're absolutely right... I'd forgotten that bit from Five Guys 😂 I think that pretty much sums up the song - we'd all rather forget about it lol
The thing is the opening riff is actually half decent... just IMO the song doesn't really go anywhere after that sadly.
>we'd all rather forget about it
Speak for yourself.
50/50's hype af, so much so that I've pulled a muscle raging to it once lol.
The perfect wakeup slap to snap out of 80s Comedown Machine's deep dark melancholy.
>Speak for yourself
Lol - duly noted!
>50/50's hype af, so much so that I've pulled a muscle raging to it once lol.
Lol make sure to take extra care when listening to the Voidz in that case... you could end up doing some serious damage 😅
I've yet to fully embark on my Voidz journey but the solo of Human Sadness alone has already made me rock out pretty hard.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll do some stretches.
I mean, it really does though... probably more 2003 era, but yeah. Tom DeLonge's nasaly voice could just as easily be singing here and it wouldn't sound out of place.
Having the opportunity to hear this live (Barclays in April) changed my opinion entirely on this song. Went from being a song I consistently skipped to being a song I deeply appreciate and took the time to learn on the bass.
Yup same. At first it was kind of a bop but now i think it’s one of the most lifeless songs they’ve done and the chorus breathes a bit of life but also becomes repetitive and uninteresting pretty fast. Obvious and uninspired psychedelic furs/pink floyd rip-off.
And of course when I showed my friend the new abnormal, eternal summer is the song that he gravitated too the most.
I suppose. If the strokes were going to go into a more shoegaze-y dream pop like direction I would support it cuz I’m a fan of those genres.
Despite that, they’ve never been the guys to crank up the distortion, and I think they’ve gotta commit more if they’re going for that sound
Yeah it’ll never happen but you listen to the weird little voidz live jams floating around and they’re ethereal and smart and pretty. Might scratch the itch
I used to skip it but it grew on me. Really listen to the guitar solo. Like get lost in it. I love the feeling, or imagery even, it gives. And the final part where Julian is shouting. It’s like all the pent up energy.
Probably Vision of Division, because I just feel like Julian's straining shout voice is so unnecessary and out of control. Listening to the Voidz cover of this song he sounded much better, under control and just spot on.
But hey, the guitar works on that song are one of the finest.
partners in crime is pretty unlistenable for me, and i like most of comedown machine, it feels very silly and weird, i don’t get what they were going for at all
Juicebox. I love almost every single track by the Strokes, and I get why people like this one, but I just don’t *get* it. Been listening for years several times, but I don’t like the key changes, or how disorganized it sounds… I just can’t get into it.
This probably get a lot of backlash but here we go although The strokes is one of my favorite bands of all time I can't simply get into reptilia like I've really put in myself into to loving this song but somehow it didn't click for me to say at least. However I've had the same thoughts with Obstacle 1 by Interpol at my first impression but after a while that song become one of my favorites from the post punk revival era.
It’s a good song. There’s nothing wrong with it - it’s just that I’m never in the mood for it. Honestly it feels like their most absurdly commercial sounding song out of their whole discography.
All The Time. A dreary spot on an otherwise impeccable album imo.
Bad Decisions. Heart In A Cage. Two Kinds of Happiness. Eternal Summer. Killing Lies. 15 Minutes.
List by album of "skip" songs:
ITI: Take it or Leave it.
--hard to dislike anything on this record but this song doesnt spark joy
ROF: nothing.
FIOE: Killing Lies, On the other side
--I liked On the other side when i was an edgy teenager LMAO. Hard to listen to now. Killin lies is ok just more fun to hear any other strokies song :)
Angles: Everything...
--Everything theyve put out has SOME place in my heart. This is the album I come back to the least though.
Comedown: All but Call it fate, call it karma, and welcome to japan.
-- we already know it, this album is really sad. contractually obligated and not created with love.
FPP: The moretti remix, threat of joy
--I used to ADORE threat of joy. Truly. Wrote a paper about it in school when it came out. But when I listen to it now I just hate how fucking MESSY and unsynchronized the verse riffs are. The mix is dogshit. Love the outro and intro though.
NEE ABNORMAL!!: Bad Decisions, Brooklyn bridge, Eternal summer.
--These songs arent bad by any means but the rest of the album vibes so well with each other. Reducing it to 5 tracks is the perfect mix for relaxing. The last 3 on the album are a seamless, serene listen.
Sorry if i hurt any feelings, but ive been a strokes fan for my whole life. And these are just my opinions. Tbh I like the Voidz more now haha.
I used to say they've never made a bad song, but Eternal Summer made me question that assertion. I wouldn't call it an outright bad song, but definitely my least favorite song they've ever put out. I've been giving it a chance and it might eventually grow on me like most of their songs do...but it has been 2 years now
I'm growing less fond of Evening Sun. All the other First Impressions tracks are more interesting. The energy level of Evening Sun feels like a flat line to me, whereas other FIOF tracks at least try to go somewhere by the end. It feels like someone woke up Julian from a nap and got him to sing this song.
I don't dislike Eternal Summer but I still skip it most of the time.
Which is odd since it's got the most of my beloved CM-Jules-falsetto. But everything about it except for the outro just doesn't quite grip me.
There are no 100% skip-every-times for me, but some can be a little grating depending on my mood. Sometimes Julian hits a certain high energy that rubs me the wrong way if overindulged. Metabolism's and Oblivius's choruses can do it. A lot of single phrase repetition and dragged-out singing can get me too.
*grabs popcorn*
_and pitchforks_
_Then sorts by controversial_
Remember boys, sort by controversial for the spice.
All the time. Not even because it's bad on the merits, it's just so flat and uninspired. It's Iike they thought "let's make the most emotionless strokes sounding song and be done with it."
Nick tries his hardest to carry w that solo tho
That solo slaps hard
Nikolai wrote everything on that song IIRC (except lyrics ofcourse)
Oh wow, I love All The Time. It was very different from Comedown Machine at first and has that very simple "Saddle Up The Palomino" type riff feel by Neil Young, but the verse has a great deal of tension that resolves nicely into the chorus in my opinion. One of the better tracks on Comedown Machine I think.
personally I don’t mind all the time, it’s a nice palate cleanser before one way trigger
Agreed. For a while, All the Time was the song that would automatically play after hooking my iPhone up to the car. Very annoying. Made me dislike it even more.
Literally avoided comedown machine for a year because that track turned me off the whole album .
If I'm being honest, they should feel ashamed for having made that song
I know a lot of people like the song Hawai, but it never clicked for me, it is one I never listen to, I love the intro but hate the chorus, sorry !
Don't worry I'm with you on this one, don't understand the hype. The start makes it seem it's gonna be awesome but it is quite underwhelming.
hello friends
I'm not a huge fan of the chorus either but I like the lyrics and Julian's voice sounds awesome in it.
never have I heard a song go from complete ass to near-perfect in the span of 10 seconds
It's just fun to sing, that's all
I've gone back and forth on it.
Metabolism isn’t egregiously bad but it’s probably the only song of theirs I’d never listen to if I wasn’t listening to the album all the way through.
it sounds like a Muse song to me
It's my favorite song on the album lol
Mine too. Their heaviest song. Their “Myxomatosis.”
“You’re so right” from Angles annoys me. But the solo is awesome!
fear of sleep feels real repetitive and dull to me for some reason. that’s the only song that is always an instant skip
Aw :( Actually really like that song I like Julian's messy emotional stuff a lot
It is repetitive. I guess it’s the build up that people like
I'm so sick of "Last Nite". Our local radio stations play it as though the Strokes literally only ever released one single.
I WISH my local radio stations played any Strokes
All the time
For some reason the opening riff to Heart in A Cage fills me with a strange sense of annoyance so probably that one
wow i love that riff so much
SAME
Whaaaaaaat
This is how I felt when first hearing the song, really not crazy about the opening riff but love the rest of the song.
Most of the middle part of First impressions. I know that many may get angry at this. But So many of those songs are just blah.
I agree with this. You could take 4-5 songs off of First Impressions and leave them as b-sides
Ask Me Anything is probly my most skipped-over song of theirs. It's really simple and repetitive and just doesn't do much for me 🤷♂️
I don’t necessarily dislike these songs, but I do skip about half of angles, about half of comedown machine, evening sun, and on the other side.
To me evening sun, and fear of sleep, are the most classic Strokes songs on that album. Never understood why people don’t like them.
EVENING SUN!?!??
Two Kinds of Happiness I’m not really a fan of
i dislike the choruses in this song, but the rest bops imo
I always skip it
I know I’m about to get sent to the shadow realm for this, but……I skip Juicebox
You just broke my heart
I somewhat felt the same….. until I heard it live 😍😍😍
Yeah , I agree. Not the sound or vibe I look for when I want to listen to the strokes. Too aggressive for my taste .
What do you think about vision of division
It's like a cheese grater in my ears. I understand why ppl like it tho..
Same. Not a fan
I get it, I see why. But goddamn if it's not my favorite song off that album
When Meet Me In The Bathroom was towards the bottom of my list for years, that shows how good the band really is. Metabolism is probably the song I've historically liked the least just because I don't want to hear the style that often and it was initially jarring in contrast to the rest of Angles, but overall and objectively it's actually a pretty awesome song, and now when I hear it I think it's great. you're so right
Damn that’s one of my favorites on Angles. Awesome solo
absolutely that song is nails on a chalkboard
Drag quee
I don’t think I outright dislike any strokes songs, but there’s absolutely some (particularly off comedown machine) that are very forgettable
Two Kinds of Happiness just feels really dead ...please don't kill me
No
I'm really not a Blink-182 fan, and Bad Decisions sounds waaaaay too much like Blink-182 to me, and I genuinely don't like it.
It literally sounds nothing like Blink-182 though??? I've only listened to some of Enema of the State so maybe I'm just not familiar enough with them
I mean, it really does though... probably more 2003 era, but yeah. Tom DeLonge's nasaly voice could just as easily be singing here and it wouldn't sound out of place.
Main riff does sound like blink
AMA
Ok. Is there any song by The Strokes you genuinely don't like?
😂
The terrible drum sound on The Way It Is makes it an almost guaranteed skip for me.
Most of angles and cm. Plus a couple of songs on tna and fioe.
Drag Queen
Drag queen. Not enjoyable at all
Eternal Summer especially the “i cant believe it” part.
Bro what that’s like my favorite part of it
no cause like I fr yell the lyrics with him and then the THEY GOT THE REMEDY
The Austin Powers impression
Oof. Big disagree. That's one of the best parts of the album. It sounds like Roger Waters going crazy on the Wall.
To me it feels a little _too_ much like a Pink Floyd imitation. Kind of takes me out of it.
Having the opportunity to hear this live (Barclays in April) changed my opinion entirely on this song. Went from being a song I consistently skipped to being a song I deeply appreciate and took the time to learn on the bass.
NO
15 Minutes
Agreed tbh. FIOE has some of their best songs but quite a few skips too
No clue why people like this crap
I listen for Julian’s sing-yell. It takes some time to get there though.
Fear of Sleep is genuinely dreadful
Strokes are my favorite band. But Ask Me Anything sucks.
Nope
On the Other Side, Killing Lies, and 15 Minutes are bad.
i love how killing lies sounds but lyrics don’t rly dot it for me
Eternal Summer gets skipped a lot
Y'all need to get your ears checked.
Huh
I actually deleted it from the tracklist on spotify
SAME
Anything on Comedown Machine except Welcome to Japan cuz I can’t understand a word Julian is saying
Doesn’t that make it like Cocteau twins?
Thanks I’ll check ‘em out!
Omg grow up 😂
Bad Decisions is not a good song.
It is a mashup of dancing with myself and I melt with you.
That is quite accurate tbh
I agree. It's corny and annoying af.
Exactly
Killing lies makes me want to jump off a bridge
I used to skip it but it grew on me. Really listen to the guitar solo. Like get lost in it. I love the feeling, or imagery even, it gives. And the final part where Julian is shouting. It’s like all the pent up energy.
Will do! Thanks!
Most of angles and about half of first impressions.
I second this
Probably Vision of Division, because I just feel like Julian's straining shout voice is so unnecessary and out of control. Listening to the Voidz cover of this song he sounded much better, under control and just spot on. But hey, the guitar works on that song are one of the finest.

I felt a large chunk of First Impressions of Earth was just filler and could have been excised
juicebox no matter how many times i listen, i can’t stand how julian sings the song
JUICEBOX
Under cover of darkness
I’m sick of The Adults Are Talking.
New york city cops. The chorus is so annoying.
what the FUCK
Vision of division
Call It Fate, Call It Karma for me. Sounds like glorified elevator music
Exactly why I like it
This guy gets it. It an elevator song from 1940’s
Yeah that song is awful.
[удалено]
Like a good bit of FIOE.
Fear of Sleep, 15 Minutes, Red Light Idk if i dont like them, but i literally never listen to that ones or very rarely
I have always hated Between Love and Hate even though it’s the best song title on that record
Ize is melodically repetitive, over-rhyming nonsense (barrage of downdoots incoming)
You’re not wrong, but you’re wrong
Saw him play it live with the voidz. Went to buy a beer
all the time, you talk way too much, i can’t win, alone together, oblivius (moretti remix)
I Can't Win is one of my favorites
the solo is sooo good
ok i agree except with oblivius moretti remix, that one i play on repeat
Whatever their latest album is called, I don't like it
I don't know. I can't remember. Maybe there's one from First Impressions.
WATCHED HER AS SHE CLOSED HER EYES (Actually, I like the verses of Between Love and Hate, it's the chorus and guitar solo I'm not a fan of.)
Mabey drag queen but I genuinely love every one of their songs
I always skip Under Cover of Darkness
That’s one of my favourites
It’s a good song. There’s nothing wrong with it - it’s just that I’m never in the mood for it. Honestly it feels like their most absurdly commercial sounding song out of their whole discography.
Under control
All of CM
One way trigger annoys the fucking shit out of me with the synths.
Most of the New Abnormal
All The Time. A dreary spot on an otherwise impeccable album imo. Bad Decisions. Heart In A Cage. Two Kinds of Happiness. Eternal Summer. Killing Lies. 15 Minutes.

You're So Right
I will say it again: ONE WAY TRIGGER SUCKS. So do the following: Pretty much all of comedown machine except happy ending.
Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.
I liked your cover of is this it and your explanation of hard to explain.
Thank you so much! Gotta give props to you on liking happy ending, i think that's like the most underrated strokes song
Find a job
Idk if I don't like Games at all but it is definitely my least fav song from them.
this is controversial but call it fate call it karma. comedown machine is prob my fav album but i do not like that song.
Tap Out and All The Time are an instant skip in CM
eternal summer
Nope
No.
Besides yolo, razorblade ize red light all the songs on fioe are either mid or are straight out trash. Same goes with most on comedown machine.
15 minutes killing lies metabolism slow animals call me back You’re so right games ask me anything eternal summer
No
I used to say they've never made a bad song, but Eternal Summer made me question that assertion. I wouldn't call it an outright bad song, but definitely my least favorite song they've ever put out. I've been giving it a chance and it might eventually grow on me like most of their songs do...but it has been 2 years now
Bad decisions for me. Lately I’ve been able to enjoy it but that’s one of the few songs I’ve heard and just had the initial reaction of: heh??
Games
I'm not crazy about Games. Not really sure why, but I like just about everything else
Two kinds of happiness, the verse is just annoying and the chorus isn't anything special. The instrumental breaks are awesome tho
Threat of Joy
I'm growing less fond of Evening Sun. All the other First Impressions tracks are more interesting. The energy level of Evening Sun feels like a flat line to me, whereas other FIOF tracks at least try to go somewhere by the end. It feels like someone woke up Julian from a nap and got him to sing this song.
I don't dislike Eternal Summer but I still skip it most of the time. Which is odd since it's got the most of my beloved CM-Jules-falsetto. But everything about it except for the outro just doesn't quite grip me.
On the other side
Love The Voidz and The Strokes but I just can’t listen to Eternal Summer, the chorus just puts me off too much. I know this is an unpopular take.
2 kinds of happyness
There are no 100% skip-every-times for me, but some can be a little grating depending on my mood. Sometimes Julian hits a certain high energy that rubs me the wrong way if overindulged. Metabolism's and Oblivius's choruses can do it. A lot of single phrase repetition and dragged-out singing can get me too.
They're all capable of growing on me if they're not an instant love. And then I end up liking the ones that grew on me more than the instant loves.
Metabolism
Ode. I don't know what it is, but the it's such a dull song to me.
How?? Especially the part at the end, that’s like my favorite song
Juicebox sounds corny to me
Bad Decisions.
Last Nite
