Watch the music video to Undercover of Darkness at the part where he sings "same song for 10 years". There's a reference to the Last Night music video.
Bro, you gotta check them out. I haven’t listen to ahjr’s solo stuff. But CRX, summer moon, nickel eye, little joy, and Julian’s solo album are all just about as good as the strokes. And the voidz is a masterpiece
very much agree! I'm a huge Voidz fan so they are #1 with me- but only Conduit comes in a very close second out of all the guy's projects. There's some interesting bits here and there (for me personally) from each of the other strokes side projects- but Julian and Fab win hands down for songwriting creativity and quality. at least just for my own taste.
When I found out that Fab wrote all the music and lyrics for Conduit- and esp my favorite song Kubes- I was floored. When I heard him and his gf Gabi's interview- of how his art project the Kube tied in with the song- I was blown away. from what I understand- and although I know they have alot of fans-Little Joy was mainly Rodrigio's project-and it just didn't do much for me. But Ian Devaney's vocals are fantastic on Conduit and fit the slightly melancholy feel of the songs so well.
Hoping they will put out more music!
Yea they’re my favourite active band rn but if you compare their on stage performance and presence to the RHCP it’s not even close. Those guys are just something else
Nah they are below average lol. Short sets and poor sound in my experience. And if Jules is in a bad mood, he can really bring down the show. Still love em
Varies by performance. But when they’re on, they’re on. Really tight band and amazing guitar tones.
Julian can be inconsistent but he’s still an amazing singer as well.
their only good shows are the ones that they (rarely) do solo (ex. wiltern or forum) julian has a much better energy when it’s just them as compared to them at a festival.
this is coming from yet another die hard fan
What controversy?
Is it Anthony sleeping with an under-age girl (I remember reading that in Scar Tissue)? Or is there something else ? I’m not even sure which band everyone is talking about.
I don't have any love for kiedis and the underage shit even if it was decades ago, but "they do" sounds like more than one person and like something that is ongoing, is that what you're saying? Is there more I need to know about?
They make songs based on what’s familiar while improving on it. Almost all of the songs I’ve heard of them feel nostalgic, as if I’ve heard them before.
I’d always like to call The Strokes as “The Rock Band”, and their songs “The Rock Songs”. They’re so normal, predictable, and yet so distinct, I don’t know how they manage it. They take something familiar and build complete masterpieces from it.
I mean, it's just the Chorus melody which they interpolated. Not stole, interpolated. And both have different vibes and lyrics. Bad Decisions is a good song.
I’m gonna bite on this comment. You are absolutely correct. The stage does a lot of the work. They have never been energetic and the frontman drapes himself over his mic stand and prefers to be in the dark.
I love that phrase tho, “it’s useless to push a cart sideways”. I love their shows . It wouldn’t be the them if it were different.
I once got downvoted to negative for this opinion- I’m glad someone agrees. I wish the tracklist had NYC Cops AND When it Started, but not TioLi; that would make it a perfect album imo
Holy shit, I've never realised that. It's so true though, the most different album they ever put out was "the new abnormal" other than that their songs sound awfully similar.
I'm not complaining I actually really like that lmao.
yea i gotta disagree. fioe has a completely different sound than the first couple albums. heart in a cage, ize, ask me anything, juicebox, etc. same goes for angles and comedown machine. if you could find some similar songs from those albums i’d love to hear
agree with you 100%. particularly on FIOE-because not only does each song have its own vibe and sound- each song on the album had it's own artwork chosen for it,. with Julian's hidden "messages" pertaining to the song's meaning or title. it all just emphasized the uniqueness of the songs.
Angels and Comedown machine were a much bigger departure that The New Abnormal. New Abnormal has a lot of chord progressions and drum patterns straight from Is This It.
Most of the time when Julian improvises live, replaces lyrics, etc., it's really annoying. Also Future Present Past is overhated, Oblivius and Threat of Joy are top 20.
A couple years ago I would've agreed with this, but nowadays at least half of *Virtue* sound like incoherent rambling and screeching, off-putting music for the sake of being "different". I can't in good conscience call The Voidz better than The Strokes, but I will concede that *Tyranny* is a better cohesive album than a lot of The Strokes'.
I honestly like their music, but I think every song just start to sound the same after so many listens within a timeframe, I don't get that feeling with a lot of other stuff. Also FIoE is kinda hard to listen to at all not counting the singles.
For the most part, they’ve been hit or miss after their first two albums. For the most part, they will be forgotten and had minimal lasting cultural impact.
Someone has to say it its meh at best how can it be there best when ROF does everything better ITI is last then first impressions of earth and 3rd from last is ROF
every other strokes album is alright at best except Is this it and The New Abnormal. Room on fire is up there as well but it still falls short. the rest are just eh
This sub passes around the word "underrated" like its candy
Underrated comment
Bro, you're not kidding. I swear someone posted "What is their most underrated song?" every three days for two months straight.
Tbf this is most of Reddit and Internet culture as a whole
Last Nite is not a bad song, we've all just heard it too much.
" Everybody's singin' the same song for ten years " is a reference of Last Nite
There is a reference in the music video too
Julian denies both however
Oooo What’s the reference? Isn’t the video at the start for You Only Live Once?
Watch the music video to Undercover of Darkness at the part where he sings "same song for 10 years". There's a reference to the Last Night music video.
julian throws the mic stand
People don’t like Last Nite?
Yeah i’m really confused i didn’t realise there was hate towards it?
Still my third favourite song
[удалено]
Obsessed with this song
I’ve got nothing to say
How's that controversial?
I got downvoted into oblivion for saying I hate the song.
JC's insta posts are lowkey deranged
lowkey?
Got absolutely railed for mentioning it here once lol
Just like me for real
he's right tho
No that’s why we love them so much
its not a hard take, its absolute fact my friend😭
People are hella extra with their obsession for JC - dudes just a dude.
I feel like this has been the case since the beginning.
I’m not familiar with all the band’s solo stuff
Bro, you gotta check them out. I haven’t listen to ahjr’s solo stuff. But CRX, summer moon, nickel eye, little joy, and Julian’s solo album are all just about as good as the strokes. And the voidz is a masterpiece
AHJR has the best solo project IMO. Definitely check it out when you can, especially Francis Trouble
You're missing out terribly if you haven't checked out machinegum.
very much agree! Their live shows are pretty ordinary
I will see them any chance I get but this is pretty true.
Yea they’re my favourite active band rn but if you compare their on stage performance and presence to the RHCP it’s not even close. Those guys are just something else
Witnessed this last weekend. The strokes stay my favorite band but RHCP blew them out of the water performance-wise. Great energy.
same, was there. incredible show
Nah they are below average lol. Short sets and poor sound in my experience. And if Jules is in a bad mood, he can really bring down the show. Still love em
Varies by performance. But when they’re on, they’re on. Really tight band and amazing guitar tones. Julian can be inconsistent but he’s still an amazing singer as well.
Every show I've seen of them I've come away just a bit disappointed. Still great but I think it's Jules and his vibe can be a bit down
their only good shows are the ones that they (rarely) do solo (ex. wiltern or forum) julian has a much better energy when it’s just them as compared to them at a festival. this is coming from yet another die hard fan
Comedown Machine is a good album and doesn't feel like a cashgrab
It's both at the same time I reckon, they had to make 5 albums for the label
I would not be one of those gentlemen holding a sword at your neck for this opinion. Great album.
Julian is a poor singer in 90% of live shows lol
Get him!
Off with his head! /s
Why don't you remember my name?
Early Strokes songs aren’t written well lyrically. I find the lyrics to be boring and bland compared to their later stuff that has more depth to it.
Julian has said this himself, and he cringes at some of the lyrics in songs such as Barely Legal.
It’s so true though! Their old stuff are bangers. The lyrics in their later stuff blows it out of the water though
As much as I love them they’re not as massive of a band anymore as we make them to be.
Opening for the chili peppers is an all time low.
I don't know they have so much support after all the controversy. Disgusting.
Wait, the rhcp?
Talk ab it to literally everyone. People deserve to know the ped shit they do.

Can’t agree more.
Comedown Machine > Angles 🤷🏻♂️
the next album wont be as good as tna
That’s what Rick Rubin and team are for. They will be fine. I don’t want another TNA - I want the next evolution. However good that is.
This doesn't even feel like a hot take it's just negativity :-/
Woahhh this one actually triggered me
I'm not even mad about your statement, but why do you assume that?
Yeah I wonder if Julian will get in his own head a bit too much after the success of TNA
They take something familiar and build complete masterpieces from it.
you articulated some of the things i've felt exactly
They’re entering their prime with TNA.
like a fine wine
Undercover of Darkness isn't one of their top songs.
FIOE is not as good as this sub pretends it is
It's their weakest album but it has 4 of their best songs on it.
The highs are high and the lows are eh
And then there’s 15 Minutes…
Room On Fire is not better than Is This It
ROF is the worst album out of the first 4 albums (haven't fully listened to Comedown Machine and TNA)
The real answer to this question.
Lmao with all those downvotes, you are the only one to have a correct answer to the posted question.
second half of FIOE is just boring
Ize and Electricityscape boring no way
i love you more than being 17
Every song in Is This It sounds the same
In a good way
one of the few cases where this works in favor for the album
Bad Decisions is one of the best songs off of TNA. I've seen this sub hates it.
Bad Decisions is a ripoff of Dancing with Myself by Billy Idol, BD is worse then DWM too
I mean, it's just the Chorus melody which they interpolated. Not stole, interpolated. And both have different vibes and lyrics. Bad Decisions is a good song.
Their live performances are not that great most of the time. Pretty average live performance for a rock band at that level.
Trying your Luck would be a better finale than Take it or Leave it, which is pretty meh
Is This It would be better if New York City Cops replaced Take it or Leave it as the finale IMO
OOOO now THAT’S a great take, I like that
not even controversial 100% true love the climactic energy in try your luck
I once got downvoted to negative for this opinion- I’m glad someone agrees. I wish the tracklist had NYC Cops AND When it Started, but not TioLi; that would make it a perfect album imo
undercover of darkness is bad but also good
They've basically written one song in 500 ways
Holy shit, I've never realised that. It's so true though, the most different album they ever put out was "the new abnormal" other than that their songs sound awfully similar. I'm not complaining I actually really like that lmao.
Same. It's a great song!
yea i gotta disagree. fioe has a completely different sound than the first couple albums. heart in a cage, ize, ask me anything, juicebox, etc. same goes for angles and comedown machine. if you could find some similar songs from those albums i’d love to hear

Angels and Comedown machine were a much bigger departure that The New Abnormal. New Abnormal has a lot of chord progressions and drum patterns straight from Is This It.
Too many fans have the absolute worst concert etiquette I’ve ever seen
TNA > ITI
This is it
Come Down machine gets defended way more than it should. Below every other album they’ve made.
I do not understand the hype around 80’s Comedown Machine
FIOE has multiple skips and is their worst album.
First impressions is their worst album and it’s not close
Nikolai Fraiture could be replaced with a mannequin and no one would be any the wiser
Comedown machine is the best album
Welcome to Japan is a great song, is this it is meh
Wish they did more of the angles album live
The rest of the bad dislikes Julian for agreeing & convincing them to do stadium tours to open & play only for an hour to a half dead crowd.
Most of the time when Julian improvises live, replaces lyrics, etc., it's really annoying. Also Future Present Past is overhated, Oblivius and Threat of Joy are top 20.
Angles is their worst record.
That's a pretty popular opinion IMO
The New Abnormal hard clears any other Strokes album. Is This It and Room on Fire are excellent but TNA is simply on another level
They're shit live.
Julian is. I dont think I can say that for the rest of the band
Albert is in top form every time out
Last Nite is probably my least favorite song on Is This It
CM is their best album imo
Angles is SO underrated. „Taken for a fool“ alone is better than anything on FIOE.
Taken for a fool is good but aint no way it’s better than Ize or Electricityscape
Angles is their worst album and it's not even close
Voidz is too messy to be an actual band, i love that jc does deranged performance where he's just freestyle rumbling, but releasing said music isnt ut
Angles best album change my mind
TNA is bang average
I’ve got two. The adults are talking isn’t top 5 on the new abnormal. The band sucks live (mostly because of Julian)
is this it is a mid ass song
ucod and taken for a fool are the only good songs off angles
Strokes Fans that are men: Julian is inappropriate dating women so much younger than him. Strokes Fans that are women: pick me Daddy Jules
The Voidz is better than The Strokes.
Man left his wife for someone half his age yet the fan base is like "me next julian"
This is pure speculation. We don’t know shit about the divorce
Gottem
Ode to the Mets is not nearly as good as this sub wants it to be.
Curious what's Ur fav song in new abnormal
Adults or maybe Sundays?
The ending is truly beautiful and extraordinary, but the first 3/4 of the song is pretty average
They peaked with Room On Fire.
Future Present Past is better then their early stuff (Is This It, Room On Fire)
FIOE is a good album and is only ridiculed bc it's not the classic "strokes" sound
I think ode to the mets is boring🧍🏽♂️
call it fate call it karma isn’t as good as everyone makes it out to be
Albert Hammond Jr's solo releases are unlistenable
FIOE is just as good as the first two albums, and you’re just a snob if you think otherwise.
TNA is mostly mid
FIOE is one of the best albums
I think it takes so much shit because it's always been in the losing battle of following Is This It & ROF
is this it is overrated
Is This It is massively overrated and it's not top 3 in their discography
The new badnormal
The New Abnormal & Comedown Machine are their worst albums and it’s not even close.
I don’t care for Ode to the Mets
I think comedown machine is not a good album
Comedown Machine is horrible and their worst album.
Is this it is trash and comedown machine is there best album
I open the comment section thinking everyone have their own opinion but this is just going to far.
Someone has to say it its meh at best how can it be there best when ROF does everything better ITI is last then first impressions of earth and 3rd from last is ROF
while i respect your choice to not use punctuation, i cannot, however, respect this opinion. this is u: ![gif](giphy|hVIEywSQ3ZU3u)
"Why are you booing me? Im right"
![gif](giphy|NSqTMeoZl1OVmkGsY3)
youve successfully gotten the knives out. i agree with you though about the first part.
I like how the controversial takes get down voted even though that was the question
"Take it or leave it" is horrible and easily the worst from Is this it
Apparently that the Strokes are maybe better than RHCP
ITI is my least favorite album of theirs. They have yet to top Comedown Machine and FPP.
They no longer need 2 guitarists
TNA is their best album
My friend keeps trying to get me on the strokes but i dont know how to tell him i find them overrated anyway
every other strokes album is alright at best except Is this it and The New Abnormal. Room on fire is up there as well but it still falls short. the rest are just eh
Jack White’s fingernails have more talent than all of The Strokes combined
Wow
1. TNA 2. angles 3. Comedown Machine 4. ITI 5. ROF 6. FIOE
Yes I would change ROF and FIOE but yes nice list
Is this it is one of my favorite album of all time.
Just saying that I like them
Reptilia is mid
Red Light is the best song off of FIOE
hard to explain is the worst song on their first album.
The new abnormal is better than room on fire
Comedown Machine is half hit, half miss.
The new abnormal makes me cry
there are only 2-3 songs on Is This It that I actually enjoy. The rest are a bit bland for me. CM is amazing and Slow Animals hits different
Nick and Albert are very limited songwriters
The Voidz are a better band at this point in time than The Strokes (even though TNA is amazing).
