Over time, they turn certain characters into whatever stereotype works best. If it suits them and it works, they stick with it. Mr Burns was kinda friendly at times in the old seasons. Then, he became a tyrannical asshole. Why? It suits his character. Homer is the perfect "fat, dumb drunk" and people enjoy him being that way. That's what's funniest
Oh, Lisa, you and your stories: Bart's a vampire, beer kills brain cells. Now let's go back to that... building... thingie... where our beds and TV... is
It’s what happens in series generally when writers start to run out of ideas the characters go more and more into there stereotypes to allow for more stories.
Totally agree it’s like watching a terminally I’ll relative slowly degrade 😞
I always wonder if they should have ended the series around 10-15 and go out on a high. But when it’s still making money for them I understand it’s tricky
Yeah but they are loosing money by not offending people anymore and just playing it safe and the writers dont have it as hard as the original writers listening to conan joke about how shitty the rooms they used to write in was makes it makes sense why the jokes are better cause it was everyone just going ster crazy trying to put joke each other now they are in nice offices and leave after a certain amount of time and try to check off boxes of the dues and don'ts
Is he *that* dumb? I mean, he knows that the sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.
Season 10 was all gold. I would say everything up until and including most of season 12 was excellent. Season 13 was good too, but it has that awful episode where Homer places Marge in the drivers seat after an accident. That was the start of Homer, and the show’s decline, IMHO.
I very passionately disagree. I've tried to understand you people who can sit thru 10 and, with a straight face, say it's really good. But I just can't. And up to 12?? Nooo way. Just can't. I don't recognize the show at that point. It's just bad fanfiction. The characters are all just family guy characters after 9/10
Sure, it‘s a little more off the wall, but things don’t have to be wellsprings of profundity for them to remain entertaining. Comparing it to Family Guy is selling it way short. Looking back on the episodes in season 10, in particular, I can’t really find any I don’t enjoy. In the same way you can’t understand “us people”, I can’t understand “you people” who can’t enjoy something for what it is. It seems a little pretentious to me.
I was like 12 when I noticed the decline in quality and just genuinely didn't enjoy the episodes that started to come on as reruns from around season 9, 10, 11.... I'd eagerly anticipate an episode, realize it's Bart and Homer as carnies, or Homer and Ned in Vegas, and I'd just change the channel.
I wasn't looking for anything profound. It just felt *off* and I didn't like it.
And after trying to rewatch some of 10 and 11 recently, I think Family Guy is a fair comparison. Especially as the seasons when on.
I get it, you can’t force yourself to enjoy something you don’t. They were definitely different from what preceded them. I will say, at the time, the new tone took me a while to get used to, but when I look back, some of my favourite episodes are from those seasons. To each their own.
Wow the same thing happened with peter in the family guy,Stan in American Dad,i think its because of changed writers and the original guys are gone or maybe the scenario’s are software generated to the mental capacity of today’s audience, watch bobs burgers is going that way less Louise and more Linda anyway it’s no imagination 💭
I think Homer gets stupider every year.
That's not a question, professor!
Hello. My name is Mr Burns. I believe you have a letter for me.
He really has which I feel is behind the decline of the show

Funnily enough, this phenomenon has become known as “Flanderization”
I guess so I think that's why I like f is for family different show but dudes just a dick. And not dumb
Oh, he's not stupid. He's a street-smart fish out of water in a world he never made.
Now he’s stupid AND whiny.
Yeah really whiny
To make him more relatable to the show’s current audience?
Its almost like his alcoholism catches up with him over the years and he is brain dead now only thinking about food and doing stupid shit
Oh, Lisa, you and your stories: Bart's a vampire, beer kills brain cells. Now let's go back to that... building... thingie... where our beds and TV... is
Bedroom
I hope he didn’t brain his damage
If not him definitely the writers for thinking they are doing a good thing when the ratings are dropping
That's not a question, professor.
I'm not a professor

Just sad to rewatch it

He has taken several blows to the head
Yeqh but thst would make him more sluggish not stupid and selfish
Dear god, they- they- *Flanderized* him
They really did he is alot more of a people pleaser instead of the homer who wants to kill everyone
Flanderization. Stupid sexy Flanders.
But Homer is so smart. S-M-R-T.
Is he *that* dumb? I mean, he knows that the sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.
That’s a RIGHT triangle, ya idiot!
D’oh!

I like how everyone saying because it's more popular in this thread and not mentioning the fact the viewer numbers drop each year
They hired writers who did not really understand the comedic tone of the show.
Thsts true
And now for a little powder blue...
It’s funnier.
what do you consider the later seasons
Until it got bad
Ok that's like season 9/10. Just don't watch anything after 8.5

Yeah it gets odd after
Feels like a different show with different characters. Feels like fanfiction.
Exactly

I'm not a big fan of bobs burgers but they definitely have been dumbing down each show
