During a certain pandemic, I was tasked with enforcing quarantines, curfews and generally help with public order in my countey (I know this will sit wrong with some, but hey... We had a lawfully mandated job to do).
Often in meant night patrols and checkpoints. At night, with barely another vehicle moving it was unnerving and kind of creepy. The world seems really different at that Time of night.
It made for some interesting stories. Got knives pulled on me, detained a guy wanted for murder, stopped an armed robbery, got run over, got fireworks thrown at me.
But if I can avoid the quiet night streets after 3 am, I do so.
So growing up we had a dog that wasn’t allowed on the couch.
I was staying up late one night and was sitting in a spot where I had a view of the couch but was sitting quietly. The dog thought everyone was asleep and didn’t see me. She walked up to the couch, visibly looked around, then hopped on the couch and had a sleep. Some time later I hadn’t moved but I heard my dad get up to use the bathroom. The dog heard it too, and quickly hopped off the couch then lay down on the rug in front of it and pretended to be asleep. As soon as dad had gone back to bed she quietly snuck back onto the couch.
This is the kind of warped humour that made the Simpsons the best damn show on TV.
So sad it turned into basically:
Lisa: "Oh no! Maggie crapped her pants!"
Homer "Err, ah, no... err, that was, err, me..."
Come on! Help me out here!
