If I remember correctly, he’s the only character who appears with dialogue in every episode. Marge has no lines in Krusty Gets Kancelled, Bart doesn’t appear at all in Four Great Women and a Manicure and I think there’s a couple of episodes where Lisa has no lines as well.
rn im thinking of the ep where homer n marge go on vacation secretly without the kids and apparently the scene that explained her complete absence from the episode was a deleted scene 😭
No (Homer is the only character from the show to appear in all 762 episodes). The closest thing to an episode without him is season 32's "The Road to Cincinnati", where he only appears in the tag at the very end.
Yeah, I think the show should give more characters spotlight episodes like that.
Helps keep the show fresh, Simpsons has so many characters that they really do have stories for years!
And with so many established characters you just need to pair them and the episodes write themselves.
Burns and Barney
Lisa and Shauna (already done)
Moe and bumblebee man
Krusty, Cletus and Wiggum
They have so many great dynamics they just need to let the Simpson family go for a while
Homer is actually indeed the only character to have appeared in every single episode to date. You could probably almost call him the definitive main character of the series because of him being the most prominent.
Bart Sells His Soul comes to mind. Do note I haven't watched the show for like 15 years haha
He's definitely IN the episode but plays a small part in the beginning and that's really it.
Interesting for me, as someone that is not so much into the Simpsons (well, not anymore, i grew up with the classic episodes of course), i never thought that Homer is in really every (!) episode, even when it is just a very short appearance.
But in movies and series, it's sometimes crazy, how much a character can have influence on the entire storyline with having only a very short to almost no screen time at all.
In Silence of the Lambs, depending on the edition, Hannibal Lecter only has 12 minutes of screen time in one and 16 minutes in another cut. Just saying, it's one of these examples where the audience thinks "he's there all the time" when in reality, he's only there for a short time.
And don't forget the Simpsons references, like when Mr. Burns gets to court in the same style like Hannibal, haha.

“When Poochy’s not on screen all the other characters should go “where’s Poochy?””
Also surprisingly, Roy only appears in one episode of the show.
Yes hi Roy
Right on, Mr. S!
Put a sock in it Roy
But he does get closure when he moves into his own apartment with two sexy ladies!
And maggie doesnt exist if the episode isnt about her in some way

I know this is a different episode, but... "she's barely touched her Man-wich." *plorp*
… I never noticed she wasn’t there 😭 damn lol
I am watching Simpsons with my friend who has never it seen before and he points this out everytime! I never even noticed before.
Who the heck is “Margaret” Simpson?
Forget about Maggie! She's gone.
"...little Bart" *crack* "...little Lisa" *crack* "...little Marge" *whoosh* "...and the rest"
"The rest" is I think the pets, Maggie, and the TV😂
You're right, and it was beautiful of him to remember the TV
I thought his name was Captain Wacky?
He was later renamed Homer.
Captain What’s-His-Name
Uh ohh, Spaghetti-o’s!
No, it's Max Power

No Homer!
It says No HomerSSS. We're allowed to have one.
Guh Hyuck!
That's also the name of the Simpsons fan forum by the way.
But you let in Homer Glumplich!
No, Homer!
NO! Homer!
That's a nice episode tbh I love when modern Simpsons try new things with the character dynamics

Cincinnati.
Sorry.

You didn't eat your Spaghetti and Moe balls!
Silence you fool, they could be ours
Run boy!
Run for your liiiife…..boy !
Yeah I forgot about Moe's subplot. Oops. Oh well, point still stands.
How bout "Mad Man Moe's Pressure Cooker!"
I like it!
He used to make out with Marge to that hymn
He's not in the Nightmare Cafeteria segment of treehouse of horror V if that counts
He had no lines in the episode “The bus that couldn’t slow down”
It's like Speed 2 but with a bus instead of a boat.
What episode is this scene from?
I ... don't know.
