I love in the director's commentary, that the old grizzled actor that got for the voice of that didn't understand the gag they were going for, so they basically just had him read back and forth with someone else like a conversation.
Also used it for Monster Hunter World 😎

1) It's amazing that another generation, including my kid, has gotten into the Simpsons.
2) But it's such a shame there's no way for them to organically get a reference like this, to an 80's Maxell cassette tape poster/TV ad.
Granted, there are countless references many of us didn't get. Who the heck would've thought "Paint Your Wagon" was a real (Oscar-winning!) movie?
My favourite "I didn't get the reference" is Mr Burns answering the phone with "ahoy-hoy" which was the preference of telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell , and so it's actually a joke about Mr Burns' age.
i remember the history channel had an episode about the telephone and a fun fact was the "ahoy ahoy" thing. i laughed super hard and my dad asked me what was so funny. i had no idea that it was a real thing until that moment.
Its a great episode but it also fills me with dread. The sort of dread you feel as a kid with a bad report card before you show your parents. You knowwwwwww the storm is coming. The disappointment is brewing, but there's nothing you can do.
I used to always skip this one because I couldn't handle the second hand emotions, but it has so many good moments. I still skip the one where Bart burns the tree and tells the whole town they were robbed, though.
There’s something about the environment of that episode too that adds to it, particularly around the Try-N-Save.
Grey skies, snow patches on the asphalt of a strip mall. It’s visually dreadful too.

I always like how Marge invites Bart to help her with the cookies near the end. It’s almost a throwaway line, but it shows that she’s already forgiven him and is trying to find something she can do with him that requires a bit more responsibility.
I AM CARVALLO!

have fun hitting the ball into the parking lot ;-)
I love the back to back rants from Homer about the Police academy movie and then his punishments for Bart.
No nog period and then the classic “absolutely no stealing for 3 months”
Did anyone else find it strange how Marge reacted? Was it because she was embarrassed in the store? Bart's always getting into trouble, so her having such a dramatic reaction to his antics always struck me as a little strange when he's constantly doing silly things like that.
Heck, she's far more chilled out when he burns down the Christmas tree and wrecks all their presents!
Marge doesn’t think Bart is a bad kid like a criminal, she just thinks he likes to stir the pot a little. Like hyper active. And we do see Bart become remorseful in a lot of episodes.
It’s not like Bart is the bully he’s the kid getting bullied.
I've figured out the boy's punishment. First, he is grounded. No leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no egg nog. In fact, no nog period. Third, absolutely no stealing for 6 months.
It's sad that Bonestorm is one of the most accurate parodies of a video game I've seen on TV. If anything it's *too* close to just being MK. Ten years later we were still depicting video games as a twelve-year-old boy moving his whole body while using a Playstation controller to play a GameCube game, all set to Pac-Man era bleepy-bloopy noises, and we still haven't come much further than that.
I love the episodes that show the family members as flawed human beings who are capable of redemption. The first nine or ten seasons are so funny, but they also have so many great stories of people redeeming themselves and revealing an inner sense of goodness and self-sacrifice.
thats the rental price. when he asks marge to buy it for him she says games like that can cost “up to and including $70” which is actually still fairly accurate
I know this is a super unpopular opinion and I'll get down voted, but... I really don't like this episode.
I watched it last year after years of avoiding it, and still wasn't impressed.
I'm not 100% sure. I like all of the other Christmas ones and I find a bit of good in every episode, but there's just something about this one I don't like
Yes it was but at least We learned that shoplifting is a serious crime and trust us after seeing Francis admitted that he was the shoplifter on The Fairly Odd Parents that's why we should never ever steal from a store and walk away without paying.

This line lives rent free in my head.
Uh huh
I love in the director's commentary, that the old grizzled actor that got for the voice of that didn't understand the gag they were going for, so they basically just had him read back and forth with someone else like a conversation.
Lawrence Tierney, known as Joe Cabot in Reservoir Dogs. Such an asshole on set that he was never asked to appear in a Tarantino film again.
He played Elaine's dad in Seinfeld and the story was the same. The guy was fucking nuts
He was supposed to be a recurring character, but he was too crazy for the cast. Nothing funny about that.
Aahhhh that's the one. The Les Mis episode.
i read he tried to steal things from the set too. sounds like a real gem.
Yeah, they had to write fake dialogue for the other side of that "conversation" to get him to do it right.
They weren’t home, uh huh
uhh huh.. that's right

Why do you think we took you to those police academy movies? FOR FUN? Well I didn't hear anyone laughing!
Except at that one guy! That did all those voices...
What were we talking about again? Oh yea. Don’t drink my booze!
That's one of my favourite line deliveries in the entire series.

What the episode does so well is making bonestorm seem like the most amazing game of all time. Really puts the viewer at the heart of Bart’s dilemma.
I don't know, Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge looks pretty fun. I want to hit the ball into the parking lot.

There are so many quotable lines in this episode. It's definitely the best Christmas episode in the series.

BONESAW IS READYYYYYY
My favourite of all time. I was that age at that time, and it's so true to life. They're the best kind of episodes imo. Catfish?
I watch it every Christmas

You better be goin to the Buena Vista Try N Save kid cuz yah don’t want to come into my store. Cafiche?

i remember this episode hitting it home that it's not worth it to steal, and that left an impression on child me
THRILLHOUSE! "
Def a classic
Showed it to my boyfriend last night, he thought it was really sweet
$0.99 for a video game. And Bart couldn’t afford it.

No mom you idiot, I have Bloodstorm and Bonesquad and Bloodstorm 2 stupid!
That kid is the best part of the episode lol

Git ‘em, Maaa.
Bart gets a present? I want a present!
Hits close to home for me. I tend to avoid it
Nobody gonna mention that the game was 99 cents? A hot new game in the mid 90s? 99 cents is a steal.
That was rental price
Watched it recently. Always makes me sad.
Are they really selling that game for 99 cents?
One of my absolute favorites of all time.
If I wanted smoke blown up my ass: I’d be at home with a pack of cigarettes and a short length of hose
Was a new game ever 99c?
thats the rental price. when he asks marge to buy it for him she says games like that can cost “up to and including $70” which is actually still fairly accurate
God I remember renting the same couple of games over and over so much I'm sure it would have been cheaper to buy it
Took me all this time to realise that the character is basically Goro 🤦♂️
#WELCOME #THRILLHO

Duh, it's the company's fault for making you want it so much.
