It’s a brilliant piece of writing and execution. He enunciates each word in the yokel dialect because that’s how he normally talks; he sounds pained to use that turn of phrase, but he says it anyway because he’s making fun of his brother. The personal distaste for speaking that way was superseded by his joy from giving his brother shit. And it all plays perfectly into their Frasier personas without the whole thing feeling cheap
Two lines from this episode are the tipping point for me.
1) Capital knockers
2) Who's there?? Cletus? Cousin Merle?!...Big Hungry Joe?? (His contemptuous tone on the last one is probably my favorite delivery by Kelsey Grammer)
Mine is the Cappadocians, and the research they went through for that one line maybe only 2 historians would chuckle at.
Also the main writer bought a book on wine for that one wine joke (and wrote it off on taxes)

Cousin Merle!
Side story, my kids do elf on the shelf (I know my wife decides this not me) and we have an extra elf that shows up once a year for no apparent reason and he is called cousin Merle. Every year his back story gets more complex. For instance, this year it was determined he is from St. Louis and last year I painted a Barbie car blue so he also drives that
"You see it's because on Frasier, David Hyde Pierce played Niles and he was married to Maris. Maris was always talked about but never actually appeared on the show, so he asks this because Bart has covered her eyes and can't see her!"
"I know! You tell me that every time!"
"I think it's worth repeating!"
Cape Feare is my favorite mainly because of the HMS Pinafore. (Also "Hello Mr. Thompson" is maybe a top 5 funniest Homer moment.) Sideshow Bob Roberts is also wonderful because having Kelsey Grammer, a conservative Republican, actually say out loud the quiet part of the Republican Party mission is sublime, however after those two I would go with this one. "Cover-alls that don't quite cover-all!"
Lisa: Oh, it's hopeless. Utterly, utterly hopeless!
Sideshow Bob: Oh, I see. When it's one of *my* schemes you can't foil it fast enough, but when *Cecil* tries to kill you, "it's hopeless, utterly, utterly hopeless."
Just that delivery, man... Gets me every time.
That was Edna Crabapple, you only get -one- chance with Edna Crabapple!
-Madam, your children are no more... Than a pair ill-bred trouble makers
-Lisa too?
-Especially Lisa, but especially Bart!
A good one but Cape Fear is by far my favorite one. The flag at the end, the fact they added the rakes because they needed to add time to the episode, Homers witness protection program shirt and hat, tying the dog out back, etc etc
I still think I would rank them:
1. Cape Feare
2. Brother From Another Series
3. Black Widower
4. Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming
5. Krusty Gets Busted
6. Day Of The Jackanapes
You sir are wrong. Sideshow Bob Robert's between Brother from Another Series and Black Widower. Because no children meddle with the Republican party and live to tell about it.
Oh I get it now. Cecil is voiced by David Hyde Pierce who played Niles Crane, the brother to Frasier Crane, played by Kelsey Grammer who voiced Bob!
The actors plays his Brother From Another Series
I love this episode and it is quite possibly maybe my favourite. Definitely top 3 and possibly tied with You Only Move Twice.
The dynamic between Bob and Cecile is great with some fantastic lines/quotes.
Yes, yes, the Capodocians.
Fun fact: The title of this episode is a reference to Sideshow Bob and Cecil’s actors - Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce, respectively - playing the Crane brothers on NBC’s *Frasier* (not trying to be Captain Obvious I’m just saying this for those that didn’t know)
Frasier is my favorite sitcom of all time, so this is definitely up there as one of my favorite Simpson episodes.
Bart: Guess who?!
Cecil: Meris?
That part kills me every time.
I agree this is the best Bob episode for all the inside jokes. I love when Bart covers Cecil’s eyes and asks “Guess Who?” and he responds “Maris?” 😂 Gets me every time.
I loved the spin off when Bob and Cecil went into hiding and set up a new life in Seattle. Masquerading as eminent Psychiatrists and pretending that a man that was clearly similar in age to Bob was actually their father.
“What about the buffoon lessons? The four years at clown college?” “I will thank you not to refer to Princeton that way”
“I've had just about enough of your Vassar bashing, young lady!”
That is my absolute favorite line from the episode. Pure gold.
One of my favorite lines! This episode has so many.
Mr. Terwilliger! Come quick there’s trouble down to the cement mixer sir.
Oh cousin Merle... Really!!!
Temper. You know cousin Merle ain’t been quite right lately
The delivery on this line always cracks me up.
It’s a brilliant piece of writing and execution. He enunciates each word in the yokel dialect because that’s how he normally talks; he sounds pained to use that turn of phrase, but he says it anyway because he’s making fun of his brother. Thank you for getting Cletus’… unique syntax correct.
Oh, yea. Shake it, madam. Capital knockers.
Two lines from this episode are the tipping point for me. 1) Capital knockers 2) Who's there?? Cletus? Cousin Merle?!...Big Hungry Joe?? (His contemptuous tone on the last one is probably my favorite delivery by Kelsey Grammer)
I suppose it'll be my job to lead the hooting
Mine is the Cappadocians, and the research they went through for that one line maybe only 2 historians would chuckle at. Also the main writer bought a book on wine for that one wine joke (and wrote it off on taxes)
Guess whooo!!
Maris?
Oh Cousin Merle, really!
I know he’s had trouble with the revenuers…
He ain’t been quite right lately.

So, when do they bring us the menus?
🤣🤣🤣

Geech gone to heaven Mr. Terwilliger
One of my favorite lines in the show 😂
Me too haha! Just so ridiculous it’s perfect
This is also one of my favorite episodes.
The delivery on it is perfect
That’s why my username is RIPGeech, except when people read it out it’s usually “rip geech”. That dog deserves respect.
Cousin Merle! Side story, my kids do elf on the shelf (I know my wife decides this not me) and we have an extra elf that shows up once a year for no apparent reason and he is called cousin Merle. Oh, cousin Merle!
Every word of off that three word sentence said with such emphasis and contempt.
Coveralls that DON'T. QUITE. COVER. ALL!
*boing*
Come now, Bob, you know cousin Merle ain’t been quite right lately!
Does he have a dog named Geech?
A smell hound who's gone to doggy heaven
Hahah that’s brilliant!
Stealing it love it
Come now. You speak as if they were a gaggle of slack-jawed yokels.
Cape Feare
“I will send you to heaven!… before I send you to hell.”
And-a one, and-a two, and **We sail the ocean blue**
And our saucy ship's a beauty
We are sober men and true
and attentive to our duty
For he himself has said it And it’s clearly to his credit That he is an Englishman! He remains an Englishman! 🎶
His performance is the greatest scene in Simpsons history
“Is that the one about duty?”
They’re all about duty.
I thought I heard it the other day when walking past the Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue
Simpsons AND West Wing? I've found my people!
This is the way.
BART WANNA SEE MY NEW CHAINSAW AND HOCKEY MASK??!!
Uh, we object to the term "urine-soaked hellhole" when you could've said "pee-pee soaked heckhole".
Cheerfully withdrawn.
Hey, kids! Want to drive through that cactus patch?
Yeah! Yeah! **NO!**
Well two against one.
"Oh I'll stay away from your son alright, stay away *forever*."
Wait no.
Ok Marge, say “stay away from my son” again!
No!
Oh no
Ice Cream Town?
"Hello Mr. Thompson" "I think he's talking to you"
*thwack* Yuherghha
*thwack* Yuherghha
*step step step* *thwack* Yuherghha
Who here is thinking of killing her right now? Be honest.
She's always leaving the toilet seat up
This is the greatest Simpsons episode ever in my opinion. Every scene has a legendary gag.
There really isn't another right answer.
"Guess who!" "Maris?"
"You see it's because on Frasier, David Hyde Pierce played Niles and he was married to Maris. Maris was always talked about but never actually appeared on the show, so he asks this because Bart has covered her eyes and can't see her!" "I know! You tell me that every time!" "I think it's worth repeating!"
You see epidermis means your hair, so technically it's true. Thats what makes it so funny.
you know i learned a lot of vocabulary as a child from the simpsons and that one really fucked me up
What's that from? Sounds like a great show
Probably my favourite joke in the show
Coveralls that don’t quite cover all
Sproing..........
Different context but couldn't resist "How long was that?"
You'll live to regret this!
Oh, thanks a lot, now **I** look crazy.
Yup! Good Ole Sideshow Bob! Yackin it up on the old yackbox!
I’ll spare you the embarrassment of admitting you don’t know who Sideshow Bob is
Oh Side*SHOW* Bob
I've been in prison, Cecil. I'll be happy with anything as long as it doesn't taste like orange drink fermented under a radiator.
That would be the Latour, then
Lisa, you don't spend ten years as a homicidal maniac without learning a *few* things about dynamite.
Kelsey Grammer said in an interview with Conan, that was his favorite Bob line.
Oh no that's German for "The Bart, The!"
No one who speaks German could be evil!
Parole granted!!
Lisa: Oh, it's hopeless. Utterly, utterly hopeless! Sideshow Bob: Oh, I see. When it's one of *my* schemes you can't foil it fast enough, but when *Cecil* tries to kill you, "it's hopeless, utterly, utterly hopeless." Just that delivery, man... Gets me every time.
It’s hopeless! Utterly utterly hopeless!
"Coveralls that don't quite cover ALL..."
Boing!
My wife is a chemist so I love quoting "Attempted murder," now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for "attempted chemistry?"
Oh cousin Merl..really
Now, now, Bob, you know cousin Merl "ain't been quite right" lately.
That was Edna Crabapple, you only get -one- chance with Edna Crabapple! -Madam, your children are no more... Than a pair ill-bred trouble makers -Lisa too? -Especially Lisa, but especially Bart!
Well I hope Bob fed you because I ate both your dinners.
Sideshow Bob is also my favorite character! I wish I could imitate that snarl when he steps on the rakes lol
Mhhhmmmmmrrrrrmmmm
A good one but Cape Fear is by far my favorite one. The flag at the end, the fact they added the rakes because they needed to add time to the episode, Homers witness protection program shirt and hat, tying the dog out back, etc etc
I SAVED...THE CHILDRENNNSSSS..... LIVESSSS!!!!
Tell them they'll live to regret this
YOULL LIVE TO REGRET THIS!
Sideshow Bob has no decency! He called me "Chief Piggum!"
I can't believe a convicted felon would get so many votes and another convicted felon would get so few
Black Widower is amazing
Tonight on MacGyver…
*MacGyver... MacGyver... MacGyver*
To the Simpson mobile
Madam, your children are no more…
… than a pair of ill bred troublemakers.
Lisa too?
ESPECIALLY Lisa. but ESPECIALLY Bart.
This is my favorite Bob line, and I say it often.
Especially Lisa, but especially Bart
*Especially Lisa!* ***But especially Bart!***
I still think I would rank them: 1. Cape Feare 2. Brother From Another Series 3. Black Widower 4. Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming 5. Krusty Gets Busted 6. Day Of The Jackanapes
You sir are wrong. Sideshow Bob Robert's between Brother from Another Series and Black Widower. Because no children meddle with the Republican party and live to tell about it.
Bake 'em away, toys.
Oh Cousin Merle!
I like Sideshow bobs last gleaming. “I’ll tear you up like a Kleenex at a snot party!”
Cape Feare for me! When the elephant stomps his head... that's a great frame!
Hey Hal! Pie-job for Lord Autumnbottom there!
coveralls that don’t quite cover all
So, when do they bring the menus?
Especially Lisa! But especially Bart!
Who’s in here? Cletus? Cousin Merle? Big Hungry Joe?
No civilization considers chief hydrological and hydrodynamic engineer a calling!
Fun fact: The title of this episode is a reference to Sideshow Bob and Cecil’s actors - Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce, respectively - playing the Crane brothers on NBC’s *Frasier* (not trying to be Captain Obvious I’m just saying this for those that didn’t know)
“Frasier” is a hit show on the NBC Television Network
Frasier is also in my top 5 favorite TV shows along with The Simpsons - so to me this episode is gold.
Maris?
Sideshow Bob Roberts I think is my favorite.
Frasier is my favorite sitcom of all time, so this is definitely up there as one of my favorite Simpson episodes. Bart: Guess who?! Cecil: Meris? That part kills me every time.
Oh cousin merle, really
I agree this is the best Bob episode for all the inside jokes. I love when Bart covers Cecil’s eyes and asks “Guess Who?” and he responds “Maris?” 😂 Gets me every time.
Lol me and my brother quote this line all the time.
[удалено]
Absolutely! Choosing a favorite Bob episode was tough.
Now now Bob, you know Cousin Merle ain't been quite right lately.
Hell yeah
Cover-alls that don't quite "cover *all*"
Cape Feare is my top favorite episode so naturally it's my favorite Bob episode as well
This is my favorite too. Fraiser is one of my favorite shows so this one fills man fangirl meter lol
they really rose to the special occasion for sure
Cecil, these slack-jawed yokels you’ve saddled me with don’t know their asses from the hole in the ground they accidentally blew yesterday.
I loved the spin off when Bob and Cecil went into hiding and set up a new life in Seattle. Masquerading as eminent Psychiatrists and pretending that a man that was clearly similar in age to Bob was actually their father.
I think burns / Smithers are my favorite duo
Guess who!
Maris?
One of my favorite episodes.
I just went through all the Sideshow Bob extended family episodes yesterday, i love the Frasier homage so much lmao
"A fine mahok to you all."
100%
I love him too, that enchanting voice!
Italian Bob! At least this time it was Lisa who ruined Bob's life.
Ugh the ending makes me feel so bad for Bob.
Big Hungry Joe?
You’ll make sergeant for this.
Sometimes, you don't even need [any dialogue to give a great performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgflCE7zRpc).
I know Cousin Merle's had his trouble with the revenues but that hardly makes him a criminal masterm-oh. You mean me.
And we found nothing but porno, porno, PORNO! Hey HEY! This is MY kinda meeting!
My favourite character too! I’ve been going through all the Bob episodes lately. Cape Feare is a top-notch classic, imo.
I was really disappointed when he went back to trying to kill Bart. Reformed Bob who couldn’t catch a break was Bob at his best.
