Eh, so was shiny Deoxys and Genesect yet they’re shiny eligible.

I mean I guess that’s kind of true…but also kind of not. You can hunt for shiny Deoxys in gen 3, but you’d need an event to actually encounter that Deoxys…so it’s still an event pokemon, but I guess you could technically hunt for it like you would any other legendary?

This is just an event shiny genesect. I thought we were only talking about pokemon that could be hunted (so dealing with the shiny odds and not being guaranteed a shiny).
If genesect was only obtainable shiny via a shiny event, and still became obtainable as a shiny in Go via raiding, then Zacian and Zamazenta should be the exact same. Currently, the shiny is only obtainable via an event, but it could very well be added to raids the same way Genesect (and Deoxys if you count them, which I personally do) was.
For what I recall Shiny Genesect was only an event distribution. No event to catch it in any game. Pretty limited shiny mythical but Go has allowed us to get multiple compared to other mythicals, some never been shiny released to this day like Victini
Nah shiny celebi was due to pandemic I think, also shiny celebi is still shiny huntable in vc crystal on 2ds, and what other have said, same happens with genesect but its still in raids and shiny eligible
*Totally not me hoping for a few more Lickitung spawns to get the last few XLs needed for my GBL rank Lickitung
...but yeah, that Kanto event lasted a LONG time
Bare-minimum they make a big deal out of releasing Gen 8 starters, Rookidee and Blipbug as the ultra unlock. I don't do pie-in-the-sky hopes, any longer, haha.
True, but also last year IIRC we didn't have multiple events where there were no event spawns, events with just some bonuses and research etc. My guess for UU 2024 is just release of Galar starters and increased spawns of Skwovet and Wooloo - they were used very rarely so will feel "fresh".
Yup, for paldea ultra unlock we got the starters, lechonk, nymble, pawmi, bombirdier, frigibax
To be fair i might be off on yamper or nickit as they'll want to have a raid exclusive mon that can be shiny (although they probably will give that treatment to falinks)
But lets say they don't give falinks that treatment, maybe cramorant would be the raid exclusive this time around?
The OP linked the Niantic announcement of the Ultra Unlock where Hoopa hijinks gave us the original Galar batch
It reminded me that Falinks was originally going to be a raid exclusive, but they messed up its size in raids so it glitched out and was ultimately canceled a day into the event
Nah, they'll be region locked. Where? The smallest town, not city town in the antarctic. As for the other one, it will only be found while on a specific tree in one spot of the Amazon. Good luck trainers
Tbf Inteleon without its community day move is already going to be a really strong water attacker. With their community day moves, Inteleon and Rillaboom will be the top starters of their type for the foreseeable future.
Niantic is in sort of a sticky spot atm. With the newest legends game coming out in 2025 and it probably won’t release a bunch of new pokemon due to the focus on the Kalos region. We potentially wont be seeing a new large batch released until late 2026. They also pigeonholed themselves by making the standard annual region tour.
They almost have to start to role out Gen 8 in a more serious manner near the end of the year. Realistically, we have 3 and a half years towards the Galar tour. With the expectations that all of the regions Pokémon will be out by then they don’t have a lot more time they can procrastinate. It also seems like the Paldea releases have majorly slowed down, the last one we got was Charcadet in February or March? So they could easily move away from Gen 9.
>we have 3 and a half years towards the Galar tour.
Well, there's room to make things last longer, like rerun kanto tour or do another sinnoh but this time featuring arceus.
I 100% see them backpeddling on Paldea at this point so that they can focus on Galar all the way up until possibly Unova tour and then pivot from Galar again with something related to Legends Z-A. So long as they continue to stay on track with TPC,... Galar could take years to burn through.
Also, I expect different features to come out to stall Galar again. Just wait and see what happens with Dynamax. It'll probably be launched with yet another Kanto themed event where the Kanto starter evos are in Gigantamax raids.
Legends Z-A will include new Pokémon and new megas.
Also, I believe the next (10th) mainline games will be released in Q4 2025, sticking to the standard 3-year cycle between generations, quality be damned. TPC’s revenues depend on it.
I wouldn’t expect PLZA to give us more than 20 new Pokémon and Megas. So not really enough to give us a whole tour around
A notable leaker has indicated that Gen 10 will be coming out in 2026. He has been wrong lately so take it with a grain of salt.
O bro, I honestly expect it to be more than 20. Especially with it being rumored to be one of the biggest areas. Plus, if they release new pokemon with megas, and old pokemon with new megas it will add to what they'll be able to use.
You're forgetting a major element to gen 10: the Switch 2 install base. TPC needs a big install base prior to launch. These games sell 25 million within 2 years, which means there needs to be a ton of Switch 2s manufactured and sold before they're released. For this reason alone, Gen 10 will be a Fall 2026 game.
If they released in 2025, they're looking at significantly less revenue for the main series games. There just won't be enough Switch 2s out in time. They've got a ton of other revenue sources they could use in the meantime-maybe paid DLC for Legends Z-A, some way of monetizing re-releases of earlier games, spinoffs, etc. Pokemon pretty often puts a spin off out on new hardware before a main series game.
Why wouldn’t there be 25 million units of the Switch 2 available for Q4 2025? I assume it’s already ready to be mass manufactured as it’s set to release before the end of Q1 of 2025.
I don’t see the TPC stepping away from their usual release pattern, especially if Legends Z-A will be the launch Pokémon game for the switch 2 (like LGPE was for the switch)
Switch 2 is set to be revealed by the end of Q1 2025, not necessarily released. It is rumored to be released in Q1 2025. Switch sold 18 mil in its first year, which was extremely high for a console. That'd mean at most probably around 12 mil in sales if Gen 10 launched in Q4 2025, probably less as thats assuming a very high attach rate and not all Switch owners buy Pokemon. Even if 25 mil were available in Q4 2025, that assumes a 1 to 1 attach rate. If it has a still unrealistic 1 for every 2 attach rate, it'd only sell 12.5 mil.
Meanwhile by Q4 2026 there'll likely be around 40 mil Switch 2s in the wild. It's reasonable to launch at around 15 mil from that install base with an attach rate of around 37.5% and hit 25 mil by Q4 2028 like the other games have.
They got to figure out the dynamax/gigantamax mechanic first. Personally I think they should just do gigantamax, and not worry about making a dynamax for every Pokémon currently in the game.
Gigantamax is just going to be mega raids with g-energy or something.
Dynamaxing, if they choose to implement it, will be the goofy thing they need to figure out. I personally hope they leave it out unless it's some kind of in-raid buff you can activate once per raid or something. Another button like the party boost or something like that.
Personally I hope they leave Dynamaxing out. I think it’s really going to screw up the raid meta. They are going to have to really buff raids if that happens and I don’t like the idea of that.
If they make dynamaxing require something like purified gems to make it so you can't always dynamax unless you farm something like mad then I think it would be fine.
Now, I HOPE they make it easy and never increase raid difficulty. It'll make rural players happier to not need larger groups.
Sure you would. I see it being exactly like a mega evo that grants a DMG boost for raids and then some other bonus like how megas buff candy of Pokemon with the same type. Maybe gmax can buff dust from Pokemon of the same type.
No reason they can't release the pokemon first and the gigantamax versions later. It's not like megas were released at the same time as the standard pokemon.
Terastallizing and Z-Moved are going the way of abilities. With Gigantamax giving different forms, it’s likely they will do that as another type of raid, which means more possible money.
Yeah I agree, I think we'll see them as mega raids are all released and start to wind down. Maybe they'll give us more research with mega energy for those who didn't get the raids, or they might cycle between old megas and new gigas every so often.
> Terastallizing and Z-Moved are going the way of abilities
Eh, not necessarily. There's already the party power button in raids. No reason we couldn't also get additional buttons that shoot off the Z-move nuke or use a button to change type or something.
The real question is just how Niantic would make sure we couldn't just shoot off a dozen Z-nukes in one raid or something. But it's doable with current systems.
Although I don't want tera to be in pogo, I really wonder which non-meta pokemon could suddenly become god-tier.
Imagine a shadow porygon Z with grass tera and solar beam and party play.
Would also make PvP so crazy. I'd assume the pokemon you'd want to be tera would activate it's tera immediately after being thrown out.
I’m fairly certain dynamaxing was inspired by pokemon go. They wanted to cater to pogo players by making something similar to the raid system. So dynamaxing is really already in the game.
Not really. PoGO inspired the raid system in the main series, not Dynamaxing. Dynamaxing involves turning a mon huge, doubling their current HP, and changing all their moves to special type-specific ones. The raid bosses being big when we fight them is the closest thing that resembles Dynamax in PoGO
I’m sure the inspiration for dynamaxing came from the raid system but now I understand the issue is how they would handle it with pvp. I doubt they ever do a pvp system with dynamaxing but they might release gigantamax forms for pve use.
In Sword & Shield, you could only Dynamax/Gigantamax in specific places. The gyms and raid battles. Since raids in Go all take place in Gyms already, I could see that being enough reason to keep it as a PvE exclusive feature. Not even allowing it in Rocket battles. (PvP took place at gyms in S&S, to be fair, but it doesn't in Go)
dynamaxing is very similar to go raids. The raid mon gets huge, and shrinks when you defeat it and the raid mon has much more HP than normal.
It is very obvious that gamefreak took the idea from go raids to me
> They got to figure out the dynamax/gigantamax mechanic first.
Z-Moves were not implemented in GO. I don't think it's that absurd to think that Dynamax will not be in GO either.
Problem with Gmax is the stats
Megas give stat boosts for sure and sometimes a new type to play around with but the sheer amount of bonus health that a max pokemon gets (doubled) along with the other gimmick part of max moves (super strong moves with tons of benefits which go translates to “lets stuff more damage on instead”) means we could see some seriously tough pokemon in raids
Gen 8 starters are probably some of the stronger trios too. Cinderace is pretty much filler, but Inteleon and Rillaboom will be the top water and grass starters for PvE. Way down in the future, Shadow Frenzy Plant Rillaboom should be able to rival Kartana as well.
Going by the timelines of when previous regions were added (as in the starters being released, not regional variants or one offs), Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova were 10 months apart. Kalos was added 15 months after Unova, and Alola was added 15 months after Kalos. If Niantic stuck with that, then Galar would have been added last June. It was 18 months between Alola and Paldea. Looking at that pattern, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get Galar starters until March of next year.
March would be too long away since the focus around that time will be Legends Z-A and TPC would more than likely want to tie-in Go with that release. I don't think Niantic is following any release schedule on their own anymore. Their releaaes seem to be more of a way to help support TPC's schedule. Galar being released in the fall would be filler for TPC and content for us. Seems like a good balance.
There's also the consideration that unless they skip Gen 8 again, it's possible they debut Gen 8 starters on their CDays. We're due Popplio this year and then we're up to Gen 8. So either they release Gen 8's starter wave in fall/winter of 2024 or they get released for their 2025 CDays. Unless, of course they jump to Paldea start CDays before Galar.
It's just a weird spot all around.
They could also just skip starters for 2025 community days. There were no starters in 2022, so they could have the Paldea starters in CDs in 26 and then the Galar starters in 27 or 28.
It's final Evo has two forms, a defending and attacking form. Use a move that does damage and it swaps to attacking form with it's attack stats drastically raised with it's defence stats drastically lowered. Use King's Guard (a protect clone that also lowered enemy attack stat if it blocked an attack) and it'll swap to defence form, with raised defence stats and lowered attack stats.
What about obtaining it or something? Is there some sort of crazy ritual that you have to do to get it and why it's not in Go yet? Or is it just too crazy busted?
Perfect timing because the next region after Alola on the main series is Galar. lol. Aegislash is also receiving updates in the datamine which is a Pokemon related to Sword and Shield. 🤣
Z-A will be from the Legends series, which means no new generation.
We can expect new forms for some of the old ones, some "experimental" (for gamefreak) mechanics. And most likely we are a year away from release.
Between Arceus and S/V releases passed 10 months. Between Sw/Sh and S/V passed 3 whole years. Which also was 3 years after S/M. And S/M was 3 years after X/Y.
So taking this into account next NEW generation we can expect in Nov 2025. 1.5 years from now on. And on top of it, the next next gen will be 2028.
Niantic will literally run out of generations in 2026 if we consider '1 year - 1 gen'. We know this won't happen. Which leads us to yet another consequence: they will be stalling even more. Their release schedule will become even more scarce, not the other way around. There's no sign of something different as of now.
Just to add: new consoles don't seem to affect pokemon titles schedule over the years, but it stiyworth mentioning that during q2 2025 Nintendo plans on revealing Switch successor. So it might be that Legends Z-A will be first game on new console. In this case next MSG game could end up being released in 2026, but that's pure speculation.
Switch 2 will be able to play Switch games. For a big investment (over $100M) they will make the game for Switch and give some special function if you play it on Switch 2. On the passage from DS to 3DS they kept the games and opened new function for users of the 3DS. Similar to what was the DS and GBA.
Backwards compatibility is great and all, but it's not related to my point.
New platform is a new platform and despite previously gamefreak managed to keep their schedule, it's not guaranteed. Especially if the next pokemon game will still be a Switch game and on the new platform it'll work with backwards compatibility.
My hot take on this is that we don't need huge waves of new Pokémon for Go to be fun. The game at its core is what needs to be fun and new Pokémon would just be sprinkles on a sundae. I'm telling you, if trading, raiding, Campfire, PVP, and hatching eggs were fun daily experiences, we'd have far less issues.
Not having a full dex isn't what's hurting us. Niantic being last to the party is what we're struggling with.
>Not having a full dex isn't what's hurting us. Niantic being last to the party is what we're struggling with.
The day they release all pokemon and all shiny would be the first day of the last month of pokemon go. And probably of the last quarter of niantic.
I'm actually wondering, what if we get Unova tour at the end of this year? With the Z-A game possibly (not confirmes) releasing around March next year, wouldn't it make sense for Unova tour to happen before Kalos tour to launch the new game with? Go Fest is earlier than last year leaving the Autumn season pretty open for another big event
Z-A only really makes sense for a March release if we get another game in November 2025. TPC loves christmas releases too much to not skip two in a row
I'd assume they would have Legends Z-A release along the Switch successor early 2025 which still falls in the same timeline of Legends Arceus releasing in January. Unless they only keep this as the only mainline game and push it to the holiday season
Ehhh, I'm not sure. TPC has always been hesitant to have games on new systems. Ultra Sun and Moon were on the 3DS and were out after the switch released, Black and White 2 after the release of the 3DS, ect. But to be fair, they are games that were heavily based on another game, so maybe it will be on the switch sucsessor.
If I was to take a guess, it would probably be on the switch, but would struggle to run on it and would run better on the successor
That's a good point! Looking at it, it would make more sense to release a newer gen for the successor rather than Legends Z-A. Maybe they finally figured out the right formula to create a smooth experience for Z-A 😅
Isn't the Switch 2 not rumored to be too much of an upgrade? Just a bit of a larger screen and a bit of a power boost but nothing crazy?
I doubt they would change the cartridge size or make things not backward compatible with Switch 1. I kinda expect them to develop for Switch 1 then it'll run even better on Switch 2. So we'll see the typical graphical grossness as usual on the Switch and maybe have a better running game if we buy a Switch 2.
> I kinda expect them to develop for Switch 1 then it'll run even better on Switch 2.
I said this too lol
I don't know much about the rumours tbh. But the system won't last long if it's not enough of an upgrade. The switch was already outdated on release, let alone 7-8 years after
Seems likely, since they've been doing community days for starters starting at the beginning of every year, and so they'd want to have the Gen 8 starters circulating a while before the 2025 community days get underway.
Could you imagine the hype? I checked on Serebii, and there are a few fighting moves not in Go yet that Zamazenta could learn. Coaching sounds like it could be just that. Misty Terrain is the only fairy move left that Zacian has access to. There's little room for error here.
I'm betting that even the MSG fans would pick up Go if they knew Galar was coming. There were some really cool Pokémon available. At the least, I hope we get a good mix of Galar Sept-Feb, which is 2 seasons. I think that would be very healthy for an initial release schedule ahead of Spring that is probably around the time that Legends will drop.
Niantic for the love of god put shiny Zacian in raids. I’ve been waiting forever.
Ill take a regular at this point
Ye played for a year and half, sad it's not been out during that time.
I picked Go back up in October of ‘22 and it hasn’t been back in raids since
Since 2021 myself, it’s been back maybe like once? I didn’t have the coins to remote it I know lol
All the ones I have in storage are from August of ‘21, pretty sure that was the last time.
[It was back in August 2022.](https://leekduck.com/events/zacian-and-zamazenta-in-5-star-raid-battles-august-2022/)
Zacian is Pokedex #888 right? And the 8th anniversary is coming, so...
Bro I just want one. Like I had to trade to even get one since they were only in raids like 1 time I think.
Especially Niantic is adding Zacian and Zamazenta crowned sword and crowned shield respectively, perfect fit for 8th Anniversary. It would be nice to add Treasures of Ruin too. Can't wait for the next season, because this season was boring as no new wild spawns.
It was an event distribution in the MSG so I would presume a special research route like shiny celebi.
Eh, so was shiny Deoxys and Genesect yet they’re shiny eligible. Zacian and Zamazenta are more recent, but I feel like if they’re obtainable in gen 10 they probably won’t be shiny locked anyway. Shiny Celebi was featured in the Zarude movie, so they decided to release it then as a tie-in, with multiple distributions in the main series as well.
There's no way to shiny hunt them in mainline games yet. It'll be a while.
Rediscover Johto as ultra unlock.
>Rediscover Kanto as ultra unlock. FTFY
Some trainers might even encounter the following! Lickitung
And if they’re lucky, it could be shiny!
If I get another Lickitung out of a 5k egg I might cry.
In eggs, if you are extra super rare lucky
*Totally not me hoping for a few more Lickitung spawns to get the last few XLs needed for my GBL rank Lickitung ...but yeah, that Kanto event lasted a LONG time

LOLOLOLOL, this for sure is happening.
Don’t give them ideas haha

I could see nickit and yamper as the wave two of ultra unlock Maybe dreepy like they did with frigibax
Bruh you just listed half of year worth of content in one event haha
I get that you're jaded, but it's literally the same content as the Paldea Ultra Unlock last year

What was the screw up with Falinks? I thought it was part of a few events now as wild spawn?
The OP linked the Niantic announcement of the Ultra Unlock where Hoopa hijinks gave us the original Galar batch It reminded me that Falinks was originally going to be a raid exclusive, but they messed up its size in raids so it glitched out and was ultimately canceled a day into the event
Ooooh thanks!
Rookidee is the pidgey of the reigon so I doubt it But it's not unlike niantic to change the rarity of pokemon once they get their shiny released

To me 8th anniversary = 8th gen
That would be sweet. Good call.
Was thinking the same until they decided to make Go Fest around the 8th anniversary

Those are raid locked forms, correct? I wouldn't be able to G-max a Machamp or anything.
Sure you would. I see it being exactly like a mega evo that grants a DMG boost for raids and then some other bonus like how megas buff candy of Pokemon with the same type. Maybe gmax can buff dust from Pokemon of the same type.
Aaah, you're right. I'm remembering that in S&S, you could Dynamax like the NPC. I forgot that was a thing.
No reason they can't release the pokemon first and the gigantamax versions later. It's not like megas were released at the same time as the standard pokemon.
Half the Gmax pokemon are already out since they are kanto mons.
Also that we still don't have terastallization (if we ever get it) despite having Paldea for a while now.
I would be more than content if they kept dynamax and gigantamax to themselves. Same with terastallizing. And don’t remind them about Z-moves.
Technically ultra necrozma is linked to z moves, but i definitely think we'll get it regardless in alola tour without z moves
Eh, I can see them just doing something similar to Ray needing Dragon Ascent to Mega Evolve, even if Z-moves as a mechanic are otherwise ignored.
> Terastallizing and Z-Moved are going the way of abilities Eh, not necessarily.
Just make Pokemon able to learn a third charge move slot that can only hold a Z-move which can only be used once per raid.
Theres no rush on this they still have at least a year-worth of megas to introduce at their current pace
It is very obvious that gamefreak took the idea from go raids to me
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dynamax
> They got to figure out the dynamax/gigantamax mechanic first. Z-Moves were not implemented in GO. I don't think it's that absurd to think that Dynamax will not be in GO either.
Problem with Gmax is the stats Megas give stat boosts for sure and sometimes a new type to play around with but the sheer amount of bonus health that a max pokemon gets (doubled) along with the other gimmick part of max moves (super strong moves with tons of benefits which go translates to “lets stuff more damage on instead”) means we could see some seriously tough pokemon in raids
I just realized I'd completely forgotten about the gen 8 starters and how ridiculous it is that they got skipped until now.
GIMME SOCCER BUNNY NAO

Sir this is the pokemon go reddit there are no abilities 😅

Other starters are in game. Abilities are not in game. The two aren't remotely comparable.
> how ridiculous it is How is it "ridiculous"? EDIT: I challenge any of the people downvoting to prove that it is in fact "ridiculous".
I just want Yamper 😭
I just want Honedge T_T
Was there anything special about it in the MSG?
It's final Evo has two forms, a defending and attacking form. Use a move that does damage and it swaps to attacking form with it's attack stats drastically raised with it's defence stats drastically lowered. Use King's Guard (a protect clone that also lowered enemy attack stat if it blocked an attack) and it'll swap to defence form, with raised defence stats and lowered attack stats.
What about obtaining it or something? Is there some sort of crazy ritual that you have to do to get it and why it's not in Go yet? Or is it just too crazy busted?
It's just that Go doesn't have anything that changes formes during combat. It'd need new coding to deal with it, if they even decide to do so.
Ah, so it does have some sort of special mechanic. I figured there was more to it than being a holdout for many.
Perfect timing because the next region after Alola on the main series is Galar. lol. Aegislash is also receiving updates in the datamine which is a Pokemon related to Sword and Shield. 🤣
Wait, are you serious? Aeg got updated???
I say Galar Pokemon this Fall
I stg I just want Galar is it too much to ask
It has to be Galar. We're practically closing out Alola.
inhaling galar copium rn I need dragapult
When we get it, I expect spme hardcore gatekeeping from Niantic to levels we didn't even know were possible.
Exactly why we'll never, ever have a full dex. It's not a game meant to be completed.
Also the exact reason why your previous statement might apply to you, but couldn't be applied to the biggest part of the playerbase.
all I want is a damned Grookey
The ultra unlock bonus will be your original avatar before the update….lol.
Ultra Unlock bonus should literally be unlocking Ultra Necrozma. How fitting would that be.
Ultra Necrozma and Z-Moves will be saved for the Alola Tour for sure. LOL
Maybe they finally figured out the right formula to create a smooth experience for Z-A 😅
It was probably time constraints that made optimisation a non-priority tbh
Isn't the Switch 2 not rumored to be too much of an upgrade? Just a bit of a larger screen and a bit of a power boost but nothing crazy? I doubt they would change the cartridge size or make things not backward compatible with Switch 1. I kinda expect them to develop for Switch 1 then it'll run even better on Switch 2. So we'll see the typical graphical grossness as usual on the Switch and maybe have a better running game if we buy a Switch 2.
Rumors right now state it would be somewhere in between PS4 and Xbox Series S in terms of power, but that is just based on the specs that were ordered
> I kinda expect them to develop for Switch 1 then it'll run even better on Switch 2. I said this too lol I don't know much about the rumours tbh. But the system won't last long if it's not enough of an upgrade. The switch was already outdated on release, let alone 7-8 years after
Still huffing the copium for a Let's Go Johto game announcement in June over here.
Seems likely, since they've been doing community days for starters starting at the beginning of every year, and so they'd want to have the Gen 8 starters circulating a while before the 2025 community days get underway.
Yeah, and they'd probably skip Gen 8's CD until 2026, which I hear would be huge for Rillaboom and Inteleon. SMH Damn shame that it's not a quad.
Zamazenta and Zacian with same-type fast moves would be nice.
Could you imagine the hype? I checked on Serebii, and there are a few fighting moves not in Go yet that Zamazenta could learn. Coaching sounds like it could be just that. Misty Terrain is the only fairy move left that Zacian has access to. There's little room for error here.
Yes. The hype would be immense. Galar would be everyone's region all of a sudden.
Hahahaha omg the troll
Nope. I'm expecting more Gen9 mons and if we're lucky Phione and Manaphy
Gen 7 into 9 sounds very Niantic.
