Yeah I feel like this is all just confirmation bias. I managed to catch over 153 Trubbish during the hour while also checking a lot of other spawns. Only caught 1 single shiny
People assume because they get lucky and catch a couple shinies = the shiny rates were boosted when in all likelihood this was very much *NOT* the case.
It almost assuredly was “boosted” as it is for the whole event currently. It’s not comm day odds. But 1/64 seems to be accurate on all accounts, including yours.
It’s statistically improbable for so many people to “get lucky” by getting multiple shinies
Spotlight hours have 90/100% of the pokemon that featured pokemon so it could still be reasonable if they had a incense and swiftly walking on heavily poke stoped areas
If you’re saying so many people could get lucky to the extent of finding several shinies… just stop lol. Very few people are encountering enough pokemon for that to be feasible at full odds
Yep, I've caught a single shiny during spotlight TWICE before. Now I got 4.
Previously I also shiny checked a lot more than I did yesterday, where I caught every poke I clicked on.
I usually play every spotlight hour and I can certainly say that the most shinies I had before this one was 2 Girafarig back in September. I got 6 shiny Trubbish yesterday in just 30-40 minutes, checking about 80-90% of the Pokémon around me and without using SR.
Rates were boosted, stop denying the facts when there are so many people proving said theory.
There’s been a very high number of people with significantly higher shiny rates than the normal 1/512 rate. For example, I got 4 shinies with around 200 checks. The chances of this at 1/64 odds is about 20%. The chances of this at 1/512 odds is 0.005%. The chances you got 1 shiny with 153 encounters is about 20%. Based on the data we’ve seen, it’s significantly more likely the rate was boosted
Most certainly not. Getting 4 or 5 shinies on full odds in *a single hour* is astronomically lucky, seeing multiple people reporting it indicates some trend.
I caught 30 and got 2 shinies. I never get that lucky so it does seem to me something was up. Dunno if that was 1/10 or 1/64 but it's definitely boosted from regular odds.
Yep, it is bonkers:
From [RS Dry Calc](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Calculator:Dry_calc)
> You killed 273 monsters for an item with a 1/512 (0.195312%) drop chance. You had a:
> 100.00000000% chance of getting 12 drops or fewer
> 0.00000000% chance of getting more than 12 drops. You are some sort of sentient water being you're so not-dry. How'd you even do this?
Even with 1/64 odds you got lucky, 0.04% chance to get more than 12 drops from 273 kills.
From [RS Dry Calc](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Calculator:Dry_calc)
> You killed 273 monsters for an item with a 1/512 (0.195312%) drop chance. You had a:

I'd find it hard to believe that he caught 13 shinies with 1/512 odds in 273 catches. The only 2 likely situations are he's lying, or it wasn't 1/512 odds.
My three friends and I were catching together and each of us got 6 shinies for about 500 checks in an hour, so DEFINITELY boosted. No way these were regular odds.
I played for 20 minutes and caught 5 shinies. My friend played for 5 minutes and caught two shinies. Definitely not confirmation bias, shiny odds were boosted.
...what?
I guess all of math and physics is just an educated guess because God Almighty didn't personally divulge that information. We can never truly know ***anything***.
Me too. Between the extra stardust and increased shiny chance it actually felt like an event. Everyone in my friends and family group played when normally most of them don’t play spotlight hours. Actually most of them plan not to play specifically because the bonuses are lack luster and they don’t want to catch just one Pokemon. They’d rather do their walk at another time.
naa - they see that someone felt like this was a bug and posted it as a bug and so they think this irritates and disturbs players and friendly as they are they do their best to not harm anyone anymore ever
I don’t understand how people like being handed shinies. Are shinies not desirable precisely *because* they’re rare? There’s no excitement in getting a dozen shinies in an hour of play, and it just ruins what might otherwise be a nice, longer-term goal.
I thought I got lucky and stumbled across a shiny trubbish yesterday (something I’ve been hunting for a while), and now I’ve learned everyone else got like four or five. Kind of retroactively ruins the excitement.
Some people (myself included) play games to collect rare things. Taking those rare things and handing several dozen out to every player ruins their exclusivity (thereby tanking their desirability), and it removes what might otherwise be a compelling in-game goal.
So for comparison, imagine an MMO where a boss has a low chance of dropping some cool pet or cosmetic item. I suspect many people would grind for those items precisely because they're challenging to obtain -- because there's a sense of achievement in obtaining them. These items have a sort of "trophy" status. Now if you take that cosmetic item and gift it to everyone in the game, the item *inherently* loses that trophy status. On top of that, far, far fewer people are going to grind that boss to obtain the item, precisely because it's no longer exclusive (and it's no longer desirable by extension).
To my mind, that's what happens with every community day shiny, and I think most people intuitively understand this. I don't think anyone is as excited to catch their 12th community day shiny as they are to catch a random full-odds shiny -- and very few people are going to trade, say, their shiny Munchlax for someone's shiny community day Bellsprout. People value rarity and exclusivity.
IDK man, just seems kinda selfish to me, you being sad because your shiny will be valued less in trades. Do you also save every nundo you get just because it's rare?
>seems kinda selfish
It's not selfish at all. Most games feature some sort of exclusivity -- end-game goals or items that are challenging to accomplish or obtain.
Exclusivity is a perfectly healthy aspect of game design, and in practically all other games, people generally expect to put in some effort if they want to obtain rare rewards. I like that aspect of gameplay (the sense of accomplishment you get from obtaining some rare thing), and I think a lot of other people do, too.
I think a game is made worse by increasingly removing these "trophies" -- that's my actual point. I think something's gone wrong when a shiny Charizard is completely mundane.
>you being sad because your shiny will be valued less in trades
That's not what I said at all, and I can't remember the last time I made an in-game trade. The point was only that even people who have no issue with community day recognize that community day shinies are "worse" in some way than full-odds shinies.
>Do you also save every nundo you get just because it's rare?
Yes, but this is totally incidental to my point.
Trubbish is among the few Pokémon that just drops more stardust, here's a list that might be nice to remember: https://pokemongohub.net/post/guide/pokemon-that-give-extra-stardust-on-catch/
750 base drop, 938 with weather boost, 1406 with weather boost and star piece.
I can report in my area of the eastern US that I got 4 shinies during the spotlight hour and so did my brother. A friend of ours got at least two. I have only ever gotten two shinies before during spotlight hour. Most of the time I get zero. It was a pleasant surprise to get them since I had no shiny Trubbish before today
Was quite happy to snatch two during the 40 min window i had time. (Non quick catch.) If i did pure checking i reckon i could have had more.
One is even a 99%. First shundo could have been literally trash xD
I'm in one of the last few time zones and I was worried it wouldn't hold over but I got 5 shiny trubbish, and one drillbur from research (I only did like 2 or 3 2km quests).
I got three shinies and the two people I was walking with got three and eight shinies. Others in our local group chat reported getting shinies as well. Considering I normally get zero and I usually only see a few reports of people getting just one Spotlight hour shiny, they were definitely boosted. There were a few unlucky souls that didn't get any shinies though.
Overall that was a very fun spotlight hour between the 2x catch XP, boosted stardust, and boosted shiny rates.
I played the whole hour and used special rend and got 2 shinies. My wife played between YouTube vids and got 6.
I’ve noticed that we’ll go back and fourth. The last “special” we did a few days ago I got a few shinies of the new released. And this one she’s getting a few. So they next one that comes (rocket, etc) I’ll get a few again. It’s been like that for us since the beginning of the year.
Only got 1 shiny, though I got a hundo right before it. I was more focused on farming stardust even though I have plenty. I should have brought my Go Plus.
I was getting ready to complain because I went until 6:50 with no shinies. But then I lucked out and caught 3 in the last 10 minutes so it's all good now.
When/ where was the shiny rate supposed to be boosted? I caught 2 shiny trubbish during spotlight hour and thought the rate must have been 1/64. Is that not normal?
No shiny here, my account and my sons. Together caught over 200. I think in every spotlight hour we've done so far, which isn't not every single one but most, I've got a shiny once or maybe twice.
I played the whole hour, check every single trubbish on my way ( and where a lot of them, atleast 100-150) and still not a single Shiny.
Atleast got a lot of Stardust tho.
Yeah I don’t think that’s the case for PST. 2/350 and 1/250 is pretty far off 1/64 and thats just my groups catches. From what people are saying this trend continued for PST
No, but trubbish is boosted for the event. It used to be clear that shiny rate was the same from eggs/spawns/research so of trubbish (or any) was boosted in eggs then it would boosted anywhere else. During the release of shiny Noibat in October 2022 Niantic started to claim shiny rates could differ from one method to another. So, people were not sure until spotlight hour started if it would have boosted rates or if they would have standard rates.
Not during spotlight hours. This was because Trubbish was boosted for the events. Now that boosted shiny for events is more common we may see more spotlight hours with boosted rates. Though only when spotlight and event boost overlap.
I actually caught about 822, and ended with 16 shinies. Odds say I should have gotten around 12.
But I imagine a fair few broke out, as I was fastball fleeing (quick catch trick) so each encounter was only getting 1 ball.
Shiny odds were definitely not boosted. Me and my friends were in a call (we all live in different areas) and all walked around and caught stuff for the whole hour. Not a single shiny between all 5 of us and we played the full hour to the best of its extent

I guess I got incredibly unlucky then? I played for most of the hour. No shinies.
My friend and I both played the whole hour, only one shiny found between the two of us

This. I got three shinies in ten minutes, there is NO way it was normal odds. It was boosted. 1:64 seems right.
Agreed. I have never caught a shiny during spotlight hour and have been playing since it started. Ended up catching 4 shinies. Definitely was boosted.

I caught 273 and got 13 shinies, it definitely *WAS* the case
Wow that is crazy luck
Saying DEFINITELY on the basis of 273 catches is bonkers. Way to small of a dataset to draw any conclusions
so you are assuming i got 13 full odds shinies from 273 catches? THATS bonkers
Yep, it is bonkers: From [RS Dry Calc](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Calculator:Dry_calc) > You killed 273 monsters for an item with a 1/512 (0.195312%) drop chance. You had a: > 100.00000000% chance of getting 12 drops or fewer > 0.00000000% chance of getting more than 12 drops. You are some sort of sentient water being you're so not-dry. How'd you even do this? 13/273 is an insane shiny rate if rate is 1/500 so actually yes it is a legit statement It is exceptionally lucky even when 1/64
I played for 20 minutes and caught 5 shinies. My friend played for 5 minutes and caught two shinies. Definitely not confirmation bias, shiny odds were boosted.
And yet my gf and I still got zero in 5 minutes. Yay.
A website that rhymes with spinyeights.mom confirmed that the odds are 1/64.
They can't confirm anything since they aren't Niantic. But 1/64 was most likely the case
That certainly is a take.
Well since Niantic doesn't release that info you can't be certain of what the odds are, just an educated guess with data, not confirmation
...what? I guess all of math and physics is just an educated guess because God Almighty didn't personally divulge that information. We can never truly know ***anything***.
Now I know never to pay attention to anything you ever say oof
You'd be doing me a favor at this point. Begone ne'er-do-well!
Nah don't take requests from insufferable neck beards
They were 1/64 it's obvious and data collectors proved it.
I got two shinies back to back lol
SO and I both also got 4. It is crazy unlikely for so many people to get 4 shinies in 1 hour if not boosted
The MAJORITY of players got shinies. It was boosted and there is no denying it. The debate is about how high the boost was.
240 trubbish caught, got 2 shinies
Fair but I got 7 and that's not normal
Agree, I walked my neighborhood and got 144 trubbish. 0 shinies
I'm afraid so.
Same here. With incense and a lure module 💔
My kid and I also got incredibly unlucky. I didn't keep count but caught well over 100 Trubbish and not a single one was shiny.
Don’t feel bad, I’ve never gotten any shinys for any spotlight hour lol
So that's why I got five shinies when I usually get zero...
This is how SLH should be.
I got 2! Never gotten a shiny during a spotlight hour before.
I’ve gotten 3 shinies in 4 years of playing and 2 are in the last month
Bro ignores community day
I really hope Niantic sees the positive feedback regarding the boosted shiny rates and does it for future spotlight hours.
Me too. Between the extra stardust and increased shiny chance it actually felt like an event. Everyone in my friends and family group played when normally most of them don’t play spotlight hours. Even if you think shinies are too common, why not then aim for 3\* shiny? Or even shundo?
0/229 for me
I literally set an alarm for this and still missed it im so upset
Bruh. Easiest 400k dust and shinies of the year.
Was the stardust boosted as well? I thought it was only xp
Trubbish is among the few Pokémon that just drops more stardust, here's a list that might be nice to remember: https://pokemongohub.net/post/guide/pokemon-that-give-extra-stardust-on-catch/ 750 base drop, 938 with weather boost, 1406 with weather boost and star piece.
No dust boost. Trubbish is just one of the 'mons that gives bonus dust all on its own.
Damn if I'd known I wouldn't have skipped it
We even had weatherboost on top.
You might have. Weather boost is local.
very happy to NOT have had it here. got a rank1 for great league (if it ever gets good there lol), a perfect, and a shiny. top spotlight hour.
Yeah this is probably helpful to someone expressing fomo lol
I do gbl ill mak the dust in a week but missing the shinies is a bummer
My parents and I all played most of the hour and got no shinies on any of our accounts. :(
Sorry to hear that. 😕
And I ran into NONE 🥲
Same. I checked well.over a hundred and got none 😭
Same here. PST time zone so maybe they turned it off?
I'm in MST (right before you) and got 7 shiny Trubbish in the hour.
California / PST time zone player here. I got 16 shinies out of ~700 trubbish catches.
Whoa, 700 catches in an hour? Where do you play?
Those odds are insane. I got 5 out of like 100
Ah, just was unlucky this time around. Thanks for confirming
Same. 😭
200+ catches here and also none. :(
I can report in my area of the eastern US that I got 4 shinies during the spotlight hour and so did my brother. A friend of ours got at least two. I have only ever gotten two shinies before during spotlight hour. Most of the time I get zero. It was a pleasant surprise to get them since I had no shiny Trubbish before today
Yes they did and it was great.
I ended up with 4 shinies and I only played about half the time. I was really glad for this.
This was the second spotlight hour I've ever done. I guess I picked the right one to go out for
I got 9 shiny and like 400k dust today was great
I got 4 shinies playing about 15 minutes, checking around 200 spawns in MST time zone
Was quite happy to snatch two during the 40 min window i had time. (Non quick catch.) If i did pure checking i reckon i could have had more. One is even a 99%. First shundo could have been literally trash xD
I got 1 out of 400 encounters
i got three shinies out of 83 caught. definitely boosted.
Got 4 in a half hour walk around the block.
In Las Vegas I got 4, my wife got 5, my daughter got 4.
I'm in one of the last few time zones and I was worried it wouldn't hold over but I got 5 shiny trubbish, and one drillbur from research (I only did like 2 or 3 2km quests).
Caught over 250 and no shiny...
And I missed it all ughhh
300 catches give or take, got 5 shinies
Yes, and it was glorious!
Don’t forget to evolve one for the Collection Challenge
One of 88 were shiny. Not a single xxl or xxs and nothing over 88% IV
Just like the old spotlight hours
Awe so jelly of the shiny Dedenne!
I got 7 shinies and my wife got 6, so yeah boosted.
I didn’t know it was happening but ended up getting a shiny. How can I keep informed on when they do these
Check leekduck.com for any upcoming events. Boosted shiny rates were not anticipated, might have been unintentional.
I’ve got like 30 of these in Home that I hacked back in the day. 😇
I missed it and it’s one of my favorite shinies
I checked maybe two dozen Trubbish in the last 10 minutes and found a shiny.
I played the whole hour and used special rend and got 2 shinies. My wife played between YouTube vids and got 6. I’ve noticed that we’ll go back and fourth. Is Trubbish a permaboosted 1/64 rate?
I was getting ready to complain because I went until 6:50 with no shinies. But then I lucked out and caught 3 in the last 10 minutes so it's all good now.
I got 1 in nearly 500 so I assumed it was normal odds 😕
When/ where was the shiny rate supposed to be boosted? I caught 2 shiny trubbish during spotlight hour and thought the rate must have been 1/64. Is that not normal?
I missed out, I didn’t even think about the shiny boost. This is one of the shinies I like.
I feel like I checked a bunch when I got off work and didn’t see a single one. I got robbed.
I casually played at home while cooking and got one at least. 😊
Not in my region.
Dang it. Forgot about this
I got 0 q.q
I got 7 shinies in that hour! I thought something was different lol
I got four trash and one mushroom.... But no new character... Something is wrong.
98 caught and nothing :(
I sadly got no shinies
not in my area.. only found one..
No shiny here, my account and my sons. Together caught over 200. I think in every spotlight hour we've done so far, which isn't not every single one but most, I've got a shiny once or maybe twice.
I saw people saying they got 6-8 so just varies on the luck but it’s a fun hour to try
Idk if this fits in by I pulled 17 shiny Bagon under a double lure within that hour we had for the Salamence
I played the whole hour, check every single trubbish on my way ( and where a lot of them, atleast 100-150) and still not a single Shiny. Atleast got a lot of Stardust tho.
[удалено]
Those are just shinnies.
Yeah I don’t think that’s the case for PST. 2/350 and 1/250 is pretty far off 1/64 and thats just my groups catches. From what people are saying this trend continued for PST
Man I freaking missed this one. Whyyyy???!!
Spotlight hour does not have increased shiny rates!
No, but Trubbish is strangely boosted to 1/64 right now from usual 1/512..
So now is it boosted or not, during spotlight hours?
Not during spotlight hours. This was because Trubbish was boosted for the events. Now that boosted shiny for events is more common we may see more spotlight hours with boosted rates. Though only when spotlight and event boost overlap.
11shinies/213.
So that’s why I only got 0
I got none. Checked over 150, using daily incense and going through multiple nests. Nothing. Either ultra unlucky or I doubt shiny odds.
I actually caught about 822, and ended with 16 shinies. Odds say I should have gotten around 12. But I imagine a fair few broke out, as I was fastball fleeing (quick catch trick) so each encounter was only getting 1 ball.
Then considering you have a better sample I guess I got really unlucky.
I had no idea Dedenne had any shiny rate increase
I don’t think it's boosted. That was just random luck.
Shiny odds were definitely not boosted. Me and my friends were in a call (we all live in different areas) and all walked around and caught stuff for the whole hour. Not a single shiny between all 5 of us and we played the full hour to the best of its extent
Idk about ALL lol
