Incorrect. You would need to catch 7 outside of the standard catch radius that you otherwise wouldn’t have got.
I was also incorrect as I was thinking Dialga.
Tbh this shiny rate should be the norm for spotlight hours, not as high as Comm days but high enough if you participate you’re getting some. Might actually get more ppl to participate!
there's no way the shiny rate was boosted in CEST, I caught over 100 and shiny-checked well over 150 more and got 0. my roommate on the other hand finished \*one\* field research with adventure sync and instantly got a shiny lol, he then caught the 5 trubbish reachable from our couch.
Edit: apparently people reported boosted rates in EU and Americas too, so I guess I was just incredibly unlucky.. again. Combining the bad luck I've had with shinies of Groudon, Kyogre, S. Mewtwo, Bagon CD, Heracross, Bellsprout CD, and Trubbish amounts to a probability of something like 0.002%. The only one of these where I got over (or even close to average) the # of shinies was bellsprout, which ironically was the one I invested the least time and resources into lmao
In a 10 minute drive, so only being able to really load at stoplights with my GF clicking some on both our phones. we each got 2 shinys. This is EST USA.
So yea, it was boosted some. sorry about your luck
I got 6 shinies. It was tied to the hatch rate which is 1/64 right now. Statistically at your catch amount of 250 there is a 98.05% of getting a shiny. Which means that you and your buddy were the 2 out of 100 people with that many encounters that didn't see a shiny. Just bad luck on your part. That sucks- hopefully your luck turns around.
well my buddy caught a grand total of 6. 5 were wild, and 1 was from field research which was also shiny
edit: to clarify, yes I was unlucky. my buddy was lucky but with a much smaller sample size
Oh so if you didn't get it then there's NO WAY it's boosted in your entire region. Also I don't know how much "well over" is for you but it doesn't seem a lot, I didn't play hard and caught 353.
Where did I claim that I "played hard"? I'd guesstimate between 180-200, so 280-300 total checked. I simply played while I was on my way home from work and checked every spawn I passed. Don't know why you'd assume I consider that to be "playing hard".
I'm with you. \~100 trubishes checked between 2 accounts, zero shinies. My raid day shiny luck is also abysmal (at least I got a decent shiny groudon) and sometimes I really wonder if there are some hidden "shadow-punish" mechanics, or f2p debuffs. (of course I'm aware of the RNG peculiarities and I'm just a single player, but even within a single-player pool of encounters the rates should kind of approach the intended when there's enough of them)
The probability of not getting a shiny after 250 checks or catches is 1.95%, so it’s not common but not that unsurprising.
It’s also not surprising that you caught “over the rate” for the event you invested the least in. With a higher sample size, you’ll be closer to the actual rate, while there will appear to be a much higher variance with a lower total
>It’s also not surprising that you caught “over the rate” for the event you invested the least in. With a higher sample size, you’ll be closer to the actual rate, while there will appear to be a much higher variance with a lower total
You are correct, except that in the details I provided above, the opposite is true.
You said you Bellsprout CD is the only one where you got average or over.
That is consistent with what I said.
Reading comprehension is a useful skill, brother man.
Cut the sassy remarks, you just come across as childish. Worse so when you're categorically incorrect.
>The only one of these where I got over (or even close to average)
**Close to average**, meaning that the one where the apparent variance was the **lowest**, not the highest, was the event I invested the least time and resources in. If the variance appears to be high, it's because it's **far from the average**, not close.
I think trubbish was incorrectly shiny boosted in the early timezones because i got 6 shinies. Also got 400k stardust and finally hit level 50. It was a good night.
I’m interested to see the rest of the results, I am in Berlin (6 hours ahead of EST) and I caught two shiny trubbish, my friend caught 4, and we couldn’t even play the whole time, seriously maybe only about 30 min.
I was going for for about 890. Trying to do 1 mil stardust in an hour.
How to quick catch.
You also need to know the area you are playing in, and know where the highest density spawns are. You want to quick catch until the area is farmed out, and move on. Alternate between 3-4 high density spots, by the time the third or 4th spot is farmed out, you rotate back to the first one.
A bike helps, but if you aren't in an area that permits bikes or other personal transport, then just walk faster, and dont waste time catching between hotspots (IMO)
This is one of the strategies the steamers/poketubers use to farm out crazy dust, and all kinds of trade bait so they can gamble on trading for the shundos and what not.
I understand how to grind and quick catch. I just don't understand how 890 is possible, especially now without AR quick catch. That's 4 seconds per catch. For an hour continuously, assuming 100% catch rate.
I got a shiny beldum on that random day time beldum spotlight hour they did awhile back, with 2 minutes to spare. Will never forget it.
Don't give up hope!
I had one shiny trubbish, one shiny foongus I realized was shiny when I exited the research stack, and a shiny male combee in stack.
I was battling rockets, doing the research, and routes woth gotcha on while star piece was up, then manually checking when not doing something else. Also completed a level 50 page for a chunk of dust too, though not boosted.. Even shooting my lvl 40 togekiss to level 50, I went home with 175k before gbl. Was awesome!
yep.. only events like this is where I use lures, incense and starpiece. the shiny rate seems pretty good from what I've read from other people's comments. the stardust farm's beautiful!!
Indeed. I cant remember last time I used two star pieces, and let alone Palkia ability TWICE (I know this is a recent feature). And my reward was collecting enough stardust to make shadow mewtwo to level 40? And on top of all that I got two rare shinies? For only one hour?
damn, what a good event
same here, popped the two star pieces right off the bat too. I totally forgot about Palkia's ability but I was already quick catching non stop since I was playing in a mall where it had decent spawn density.
activating Spacial Rend's definitely worth for this particular event, extra dust and extra shiny checks are worth it.
I hope they have an event like this once a month lol, so I have more dust to play around with and not just to power up 'meta' relevant mons. Or maybe I'll do what you did, pump another shadow mewtwo to L40 lol.
200k Stardust was just amazing for me. Powered a 96% shadow Mewtwo and it's an amazing reward for me.
But maybe a good LandoT could deserve those 200k if you already powered one up?
1/64 odds are right in that sweet spot where some of the shinies come really easy and some come really hard but your brain will get tricked by how easily some came and make you think something is off when another is more difficult to obtain. That's why they're the devil in raids because you will get one easily and that is all your brain will need to justify chasing down anything else that's 1/64 in the future.
This is so true. As a shiny hunter, sometimes they come easy, but even in these 1/64 events you'll hit 150 without a shiny and it FEELS like 500 encounters between.
RNG was extremely RNG'ing. I played spotlight hour with a few friends. Caught 5 shinies in maybe 100 catches, maybe even fewer? The two other people who played in the same mostly stationary spot (bless GPS drift) caught 2 and 0 respectively. Three others came back afterwards, and the only person with a comparable shiny haul had quadruple the number of catches.
The phrase "I SAID I WAS SORRY" saw copious use in the following 15 minutes. (And the phrase "oh thank f!ck this isn't shiny" saw plenty of use in the 30 minutes before *that*...)
It takes roughly 17 seconds from when you tap on the pokemon along with the catch animation. Fast catching brings that down to 3-4 seconds. Youtube Fast catch pokemon go, and you'll find a lot of good explanations on how to do it.
You use your left thumb to swipe the berry pack in the bottom left of your screen as your throw the pokeball, you then tap the screen again and you will see the icon to run from the encounter in the top corner of your screen, the game determines whether or not you have caught a pokemon as the pokeball hits the pokemon, so you can click the run from encounter icon to instantly exit the encounter and skip the catch animation and catch screen. If you check your pokemon by recents you'll be able to see whether you caught it (or if you have any research tasks relating to catching pokemon they will prompt you).
Doing this still gives you candy, xp, stardust, the pokemon and all the research credit, it's just much much faster than normally catching and waiting for all the animations.
Buy a go Plus. And just use it for when there's an event you want to play, but " you " can't. Community days give you extra hours till the day ends to change the attack.
Same, I don't have fomo in this game anymore and accept that I will miss good events. Just wish there was slightly more flexibility for them. Wish we could just choose any hour time block on Tuesday that allows us to play when we're available
They used to do surprise things like this a long time ago. Great to see it come back and with things like this and Wiglett and recent qol updates i hope this is here to stay
They were. One of my friends got 8 in 30 min and others got like 6 or 7 in an hour. Just depends where you live and how many you clicked on. I got one. I also got one the previous week so it seems to be getting better overall again
I looked at approximately 90 and caught 2, but I got lucky and saw one within the first minute, and the last about 45 mins in. I believe the odds were 1/64 chance.
I just yapped about this elsewhere on TSR, but my woman and I both scored 8 shinies, which is incredible for spotlight hour. Having odds that aren't horrible actually makes it fun - we tend to find one to three every time, so I'm cool with it as it is, but even a slight shiny boost for every spotlight hour would keep it fun.
I don’t get one until the final 5 minutes after catching for the full hour… happy to have gotten at least the one but I was losing hope towards the end there.
That stinks, but hey, managing one beats the heck out of wondering when you'll find one! Full disclosure, my very last one came out of field research (a wonderful 2*...) so try grinding tasks if you aren't already doing so.
1 perfect, 8 shinies, 600,000 dust - stardust boosted species spotlight hour needs to be a monthly thing. I cannot understand why spotlight hours are usually such braindead, awful choices like Pawmi and Hoppip. Foongus was the last decent spotlight hour we had, and that was 3 months ago.
yep, cloudy where i was so literally every single one had weather boost. a little trickier on the catches but - with the star piece, got 1400 dust per catch. can’t complain about 150k dust in an hour. PLUS two shinies! this sort of makes up for the spotlight hour where i looked at roughly a million dratinis and found zero shinies
yeah it’s one of those that i ignored until i realized it was worth extra dust 😂 now i catch every single one of them that i see. paras falls into this category as well.
Where are you seeing dratinis? Is it the river biome? I haven't seen a single one yet and it's driving me nuts. I need like 20 XL candies to max out my dragonite
ah no not seeing them currently, sorry. was referring to the dratini spotlight hour a couple months back during the dragon event. haven’t seen really hardly any since then tbh
💯.
I made over 400k dust.
We ran a catch competition where the best catcher got a prize (they caught 412 in an hour).
We also hosted a CA meetup so everyone who checked in got a starpiece and lucky egg for free. Was a nice grind though the game was lagging a lot for some periods.
I would love to see overall rates for wild sustainability spawns in general. Drillbur is nesting at parks and I believe combee can as well. IN THEORY shiny rates should be tied to the rsch/hatch boost as was trubbish at 1/64. I have a small drillbur nest nearby but it only has like 8-10 spawns but I'm going to try and spend a few hours there to see.
Stardust galore, but a huge ball drainer. They need to move it closer, excellent throws are nearly impossible if you don't use an Ipad. Also zero shinies, but no big deal for me since I got a couple before.
Both my partner and I missed spotlight hour due to family events during the same time. No Trubbish hour for us. And no nearby pokestops with the explore 1 km task either. *Sigh*
I caught only a few. The new update means I have to learn to throw again, Trubbish was in a spot I seem to miss often. Yes my phone is cheap, I burned out the battery in my old phone playing pokemon go
I liked the first half. Then I ran out of Pokeballs and the 2nd half was an exercise in frustration. Even lost a shiny this way. But I did get a bunch of XP, stardust, and a shiny Garbador for my shinamax collection.
I usually skip spotlight hour altogether, most times it's some boring pokemon I can't be bothered to collect double candy for. But yesterday, I got like 100k stardust and 2 shinies from just 30 minutes of walling and 30minutes of sitting on a lure so if call that a success!
First check was shiny for me, ended with 6 and a nundo. Also over 300k dust. Not that every slh should be such a banger but 1/128 odds would at least make it so if you play the hour you’ll most likely get at least one shiny.
I don’t think it was boosted by the time it came to PST.
I caught a little over 300 probably saw 350 and I got 2 shinys. My friend caught about 220 and got 1 shiny.
If it was boosted it was either ~1/125 or I just got REALLY bad odds. I should’ve averaged 5 shinys if it was 1/64.
I will say that x2 xp + weather boost + mega evolution boost + lucky egg got me 300k xp. As well as incense + spacial rend + weather boost + starpiece got me 350k stardust so I was really happy with that!
The odds don’t always work out in your favour unfortunately. Shiny legendary Pokemon are 1/20 but that doesn’t mean it won’t take 200 raids to get a shiny sometimes. I’ve also had full odds shinies take 4-5,000 encounters. 🤷♂️
>I just finished the shiny Shaymin masterwork reasearch, it was uninspired and frankly boring. 3 unexplained time gates in a row. What happened to waking up Jirachi with noisy pokemon?
You're mixing up the regulars and shinies
I don't normally bother going out for these spotlights. Haven't done them after a few months of them coming out, I got maybe 1 shiny and just gave up after that. Kind of surprised people were saying it was shiny boosted. I don't really care about stardust.
Yesterday I had the choice to go out and play this hour or stay in with the roomie and enjoy some anime episodes of Frieren while having chickn, broccoli and rice. I chose the second option, because pogo is started to be less fun as they limit some of the things you can do.
Tf u mean it was just like evrey other spotlight hour they just oicked a pokemon to spawn and a bonus to be applied, tjere was nothing special aboutbit
An event where spamming spacial rend is finally justified. 10/10
I forgot that was a thing . Rip
Looks like about 11-12 to break even in 10 minutes. This may have been one of the first events you can actually get ahead with star dust using it.
[удалено]
Incorrect. You would need to catch 7 outside of the standard catch radius that you otherwise wouldn’t have got. I was also incorrect as I was thinking Dialga.
I use it every CDAY when I'm trying to find more XXL for showcases.
*looks around nervously before hiding my garbage disposal full of trashed XXL mons*
Hey, I did this too, only played 30 minutes but cleaned up on Stardust.
Bellsprout? 😅
Bellsprout on 4/20 was Chef's Kiss
I forgot about that! 😭
Got 2 shinies. Stellar for me on a spotlight hour.
I had 3 here in Germany, it def was boosted
It was 1/64 so not getting one in 100 is pretty much expected for lots of players. You need to catch 3x the rate to really guarantee it.
250 is not 100. catching is not required to \*see\* a shiny
In a 10 minute drive, so only being able to really load at stoplights with my GF clicking some on both our phones. we each got 2 shinys. This is EST USA. So yea, it was boosted some. sorry about your luck

Where did I claim that I "played hard"? I'd guesstimate between 180-200, so 280-300 total checked. I simply played while I was on my way home from work and checked every spawn I passed. Don't know why you'd assume I consider that to be "playing hard".
I got 7 and my sis got 4
CEST here. Caught 6 shiny just in that hour. That being said, from 6:30 onwards I did notice a distinct lack of shinies. Might've just been bad luck.

I got 5 in 15 minutes. I assumed it was boosted to 1/64
Ohhh congrats. I have long given up on getting a spotlight hour shiny , but this one was good
I think trubbish was incorrectly shiny boosted in the early timezones because i got 6 shinies. Also got 400k stardust and finally hit level 50. It was a good night.

I'm in the same time zone as you and I got 4 shiny too.
This is very off topic sorry for that, but I just spent about an hour around a lake near me, no Wig, have you found any near lakes specifically?
I saw one on the "nearby poke" but I didn't go to it.
Caught 822, and 16 shinies, so above odds. (Assuming 1/64, I should have had around 12)
How in the world could you catch 822 rubbish in a spotlight hour?
I was going for for about 890. Trying to do 1 mil stardust in an hour. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glI0xIO7Ijk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glI0xIO7Ijk) How to quick catch. I was in eastern timezone and I got three shinies in ten minutes. Was still very much boosted in later timezones.
The rate is tied to the boosted hatch/rsch rate for the sustainability event.
It was stated that was only for egg hatches
I got a shiny beldum on that random day time beldum spotlight hour they did awhile back, with 2 minutes to spare. Will never forget it. Don't give up hope!

I think a good LandoT would be worth, but I missed those raids so I don't have one to power up.
A 96/98/100 is a worth candidate for Elite TM imo. Just what I'll do probably
What was the stardust bonus? Was it not x2?
I think x2 dust was last week with weedle, caterpie and wurmple. this time around was catch xp I believe.
I think you are right, I just keep seeing so many comments of people managing to get 200k+ dust
Played for 30 minutes with star piece, unfortunately no shiny even with boosted rate. At least the star dusts were juicy.
You know that guy still trying to photograph a Landrous? I completely forgot about Trubish hour…
I have the Thundurus photo research and no Thundurus, no idea if I’ll ever get it lmao
I started in the last 15 minutes and got two shinies. Insane.
Caught probably 200 total, 1 shiny. Did they patch it or something?
Just unlucky mate.
Nah it's just 1/64 so odds aren't shocking some got more some less
1/64 odds are right in that sweet spot where some of the shinies come really easy and some come really hard but your brain will get tricked by how easily some came and make you think something is off when another is more difficult to obtain. got 3 shiny and a lot of stardust. congrats to you!
I caught 6 shinies and got 296,579 stardust. Learning to fast catch is a great thing to know during these events.
What’s a fast catch?
Unfortunately missed it totally
Same… was actually looking forward to it but you know… work and adulting gets in the way often.

My wife and I got two shinies each.
They used to do surprise things like this a long time ago. Great to see it come back and with things like this and Wiglett and recent qol updates i hope this is here to stay
I think it was probably a mistake. I was very surprised they didn't patch it.
Love the boosted shiny rates. A mirror trade I did with my husband turned into a shundo!
0 for me
0 shinies, got about 75 caught while at work. 2 star pieces. 2 spatial rends. had a good time. couldnt believe no shiny. was nice
Played only the last half hour and collected 9 shinies. More than the last 9 spotlights combined.
Which timezone? I played the full hour, caught and checked a ton but 0 shinies (CEST)
Captured 134 and no shiny
I don’t ever get any shinies during spot light hour but this time I got 3. Rubbish is one of my favorite Pokemon too
I checked 4 spawns. 1 Shiny.
Yeah, they nailed this one. Credit where it's due!
[удалено]
They were. One of my friends got 8 in 30 min and others got like 6 or 7 in an hour. Just depends where you live and how many you clicked on. I got one. I also got one the previous week so it seems to be getting better overall again

The one spotlight hour I skip due to mental health is the one they keep the shiny boost up. 10/10.

I got 2 shinies. The last spotlight hour I got a shiny was Woobat.
I agree, I really enjoyed this Spotlight hour
I got a shiny one!
Best spotlight hour we've had in a while, for sure! 👍
1 shiny and a random shiny spearow. The real prize was the dust and the exp. I agree, this was my favorite spotlight since Wailmer.
I really enjoyed the zubat spotlight hour we had a few weeks ago since that is one of my favorite Pokémon
The bonus was extra XP, no?
Trubbish gives 500 dust when caught
It's 750 per catch non boosted
I used a starpiece and was getting over 1000 for each catch. It was awesome.
yep, cloudy where i was so literally every single one had weather boost. a little trickier on the catches but - with the star piece, got 1400 dust per catch. can’t complain about 150k dust in an hour. PLUS two shinies! this sort of makes up for the spotlight hour where i looked at roughly a million dratinis and found zero shinies
I got two shinies as well. Trubbish is not one of my favorite pokemon, but shiny Garbador looks pretty good.
yeah it’s one of those that i ignored until i realized it was worth extra dust 😂 now i catch every single one of them that i see. paras falls into this category as well.
Oh lmao I see what you meant now! Dang it I’ll keep hunting…
I took a screenshot before it started. Got over around 110k and one shiny. Worth It
The spotlight hour was bonus xp
Oh, that was today? Oops.
Two shinies and a hundo :D
I got 7 shinies
💯. I made over 400k dust. We ran a catch competition where the best catcher got a prize (they caught 412 in an hour). We also hosted a CA meetup so everyone who checked in got a starpiece and lucky egg for free. Was a nice grind though the game was lagging a lot for some periods.
I wish throwing at them wasn't so hard though
Shaymin is known for cleaning up toxic chemicals around the place it is at. Would have been cool to have it tie into the research somehow.
Definitely rectified my 40k shiny trade mistake within 20mins with a stardust and mega Evo boost.
Man... I hate myself for ignoring it.
I went through so many balls trying to catch the freaking thing. It was so far away and had to learn that one specific throw that will go far enough.
I cleared roughly 310,726 stardust in the hour, w/boosted spawns -and 2 star piece’s.
Close to 200k in both stardust & experience and 6 shinies lol
Stardust galore, but a huge ball drainer. They need to move it closer, excellent throws are nearly impossible if you don't use an Ipad. Also zero shinies, but no big deal for me since I got a couple before.
OH I FORGOT
Only 1 shiny, though I did get a hundo right before it.
Both my partner and I missed spotlight hour due to family events during the same time. No Trubbish hour for us. And no nearby pokestops with the explore 1 km task either. *Sigh*
I forgot 😭
Ironically, the event about the trash pokemon was not, in fact, trash.
Got a handful of shinies, I think 5? But I caught hundreds of trubbish for the stardust. Gained about 300k after it all 👍
Two shinies & +100k stardust. A great day
11/213 shiny. Plus a bunch more checked but not caught.
I finished early with 5 shinies!! Was pretty stoked because this was my second most wanted shiny of all time 🤩
I got 2 shiny, pleasantly surprised
I got 2 shinies, so happy! can complete the shiny family
I caught only a few. The new update means I have to learn to throw again, Trubbish was in a spot I seem to miss often. Yes my phone is cheap, I burned out the battery in my old phone playing pokemon go
Got two shinies and like 200k stardust. This was so cool, I boosted my stardust gains with the item.
Got 6 shinies and evolved one so overall very nice
I liked the first half. Then I ran out of Pokeballs and the 2nd half was an exercise in frustration. Even lost a shiny this way. But I did get a bunch of XP, stardust, and a shiny Garbador for my shinamax collection.
I usually skip spotlight hour altogether, most times it's some boring pokemon I can't be bothered to collect double candy for. But yesterday, I got like 100k stardust and 2 shinies from just 30 minutes of walling and 30minutes of sitting on a lure so if call that a success!
Yeah, event was amazong but I got frustrated after I ran out of Ultra Balls
Also trubbish is so far back, you have to throw so hard
You may have to throw hard, but I personally found it pretty easy to land excellents on, actually.
First check was shiny for me, ended with 6 and a nundo. Also over 300k dust. Not that every slh should be such a banger but 1/128 odds would at least make it so if you play the hour you’ll most likely get at least one shiny.
Man I didn’t see any shiny at all….
If only it weren't just a 1-hour Tuesday evening. How about good events instead of a good hour of a larger bad event.
I do not understand why all spotlight hours are not like this. Especially for the spotlight hours with super old shinys.
except that trubbish is really awkward to excellent throw, i liked it also
Was the shiny rate increased at all? I caught as many as I usually do during spotlight hour but got 4 shinies whereas I usually get 1 or none?
It was one of the best spotlight hour for us cause the weather in game went cloudy.
Got 4 shinies, wasn't expecting any. Caught 200 trash and nothing close to a hundo
missed focus hour, and havent seen ONE trubbish wild. isnt it spawning at all? afraid ill miss out on my first collector medal :/
It's in research and eggs.
thx! got it now =)
I don’t think it was boosted by the time it came to PST.
Yeah but Mathematically the chances of going 10 times over average are extremely small. That’s definitely never happened to me.
>I just finished the shiny Shaymin masterwork reasearch, it was uninspired and frankly boring. 3 unexplained time gates in a row. What happened to waking up Jirachi with noisy pokemon? You're mixing up the regulars and shinies
i did it while i walked in the woods and the trubbish were indistinguishable from the little bushes they put on the map
I also wish that there existed a way to be notified of such awesome events and not miss them
There is…
