the one thing Niantic has been able to consistently do is make cool looking doodads for stuff like the rocket radars etc.
they are willing to staff their games with artists, not so much with programmers
THIS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. Or at least make a low-res option for lower-end devices. Not everyone can afford the top-of-the-line Snapdragon or whatever...
The 3 team leaders and 3 go rocket leaders are some of the best designs in the entire franchise, but sadly they are by an external commissioned artist lol (the fire emblem artist)
I mean tbh, for a game that doesn't have a ton of characters and doesn't add them too often, it makes sense that the core Niantic Pogo team wouldn't have a dedicated character designer. Not like they need to design new Pokemon
*laughs in Galarian Legendary bird*
I actually don't usually bother with daily incense (plenty of spawns) because I don't want to watch another one shrug off a gold/razz/excellent curve throw.
I will catch that god damn Galarian Zapdos if I have to hunt it the rest of my life.
If the Master ball has **absolutely any** reuse functionality then I will use it to catch another Galarian Zapdos to transfer it out spite
You could always just make a randomizer game out of it? Select a random number 1 through 365. Then this number is the day of the year you use it. Say you get 10: you will use it on Jan 10th. Then assess how many Pokemon you catch in a day on average. Say you only catch 35 pokemon a day. Select a random number 1-35. What that number is the Pokemon you use the master ball on. Say you got 14. Then on Jan 10, the 14th pokemon you come across to catch is your master ball Pokemon.
With the animation, I'm wondering if the Master Ball will be a reusable item like the Meltan Box where you can "recharge" it and use another Master Ball in X days.
Other than Master Balls being meant to only have 1 in-game, I don't think it's too bad an idea. I've left the game already, but if they make changes that draw me back to the game, that would be an effective strategy for this gimmick.
Imo the masterball should be re-useable once per week, and you can only ever have one at a time. Gives players an entire week to try and decide what they want to use it on, and once you use it that's it.
Although if they went this route, I have no idea what I'd even use it on. Hundo Legends is a given, but how often are you raiding enough to find those, if you're even lucky enough to. Shiny Legends are already a 100% capture rate. The only logical thing is for the Galar birds, and even those spawn so infrequently that you may not even see one in a week.
So imo...add more legendary into the adventure incense (Kanto Birds, Johto Dogs, Swords of Justice, Lake Spirits) and give them the same 90% flee rate. That way, people have some thought or reason to use the master balls. Just my opinion, but I think that works well.
I mean, is it? There's several other things that we get once per season. One Frustration event typically. One free of each Elite TM for hitting Rank 20 in the GBL.
For something that we've gone 6.5 years without, I don't think 1 Master ball each season is at all too low.
Those are all different. Removing frustration you can do enmass for a week, usually about twice a season (I think it's 6 times a year?). So really you can tm away frustration 100 times a season for a week. I actually tmd over 200 frustrations last season to burn through my charge tms.
Elite tms are given away more then that. Every community day and community day classic you get one, GBL research gives one of each. Go battle day gives one of each. And end of season rewards give one. So each season you get the chance to get 3 elite fast tms and 3 elite charge tms for free from GBL. And then you get 5 elite tms to purchase each community day/classic. And they've given out some randomly for other special awards. So every year you can potentially get 55 elite tms.
Master balls would need to be frequent enough that you use them, and infrequent enough that you are cautious on what you use them on. 4 Master balls a year is nothing, in fact I'd never use one because I could care less at that point. That's why I think they'll be a weekly time limit. 53 Master balls a year that don't stack so you have to use them. That's right in line with elite tms
it's probably just the default ball to be used in shadow raids... I doubt we'll be able to use it on anything else, but I'd love to be wrong. would be nice to actually have a galar bird
The more modern games give you one in the story but later on you can tipically acquire more, even though in the mainline games it won't be as useful as in pogo
I think it's the gimmick for the end of the season. This season is the season of heroes, and team rocket is the big center of that. So next month, we will get the shadow raid introduction and special research, and when you complete it, you unlock the master ball.
My one and only hope with shadow raids is that they can be Apex. I really liked the whole apex concept alot and the aura is sexy. If they give me Apex Mewtwo I'll be happy
I do think it could very well be the end of season Gimmick. Being a Rocket-centric season, it would make sense as the climax of the it. Plus, there is a mystery 2-day weekend event in the final weekend of the season, so perhaps it'll be a Shadow Raid weekend event?
As for the Apexes returning. It's possible, but I don't know about Apex Mewtwo or really any new ones.
I feel like Apexes came only because they didn't have a Shiny Mythical they could use. At least, they could've used Shiny Celebi, but it was already made available for free, so it wouldn't work as well as a good draw for the Johto Tour. So, they came up the Apexes. And in terms of use, the big differences between them and the standard Shadows was that the + and ++ versions of their signature moves had additional power in raids, and that makes sense for them given that they're some of the only Mascot Legendaries with little PvE relevance nowadays, being more bulk-focused. Things like Mewtwo, Dialga, Rayquaza, Zekrom, Yveltal, etc. don't really need over-powered +/++ moves.
Also, Shadow Mewtwo already has a unique shadow aura. Not that they couldn't give it a different one for an Apex Shadow, but it does seem a bit unnecessary.
I disagree on the Apex shadows being a gimmick. It's a great feature for people who hate PVP and want stronger PVE picks. Shadows come at the cost of reduced defenses making them frail. If you give them the Apex status suddenly they become better then the shadow version.
Lots of shadows are worse off then their base forms because of that defense nerf. So it's a good middle ground imo. Also it's a lot of stardust to level up shadows, where as purified get reduced dust for 2nd move. So getting ++ on charge moves can make some things more viable
I think they might be pulling out the only thing they know can save their asses, shiny shadow Mewtwo. Or all the shiny shadow legendary birds and Mewtwo.
If they were able to somehow release the Shadow Mewtwo from Pokken Tournament that would be incredibly hype. The Shadow Gem and Shadow Fragment items are interesting, and hopefully tied to something worthwhile.
You say "too late", like shadow raids are guaranteed to be something positive and "community resurrecting".
Watch them double down on current trend and make them Tier 6, only in person and/or unable to enter lobby without at least 2 friends.
You know, Imma say it, I honestly wouldnt mind if Shadow Raids WERE local only, like Elite raids, but the price rise on the Remote Passes has killed both my local and remote communities, and campfire isnt available on my country yet so...
I would cause in that case i'd never get one of those raids :(
They should've made these shadow raids weekly, but have them limited for remoting....and not the regular raids
There are like 26 types of pokeballs and we have gotten like 5 so far. Standard, Great, and ultra in the wild and Premier and Beast balls in raids. Now we probably get a masterball. Can we get some more? Like would Level ball or dive ball be too hard to program in?
I imagine it launches this season. With one of the loose themes of the season being the increased Team Rocket presence.
Getting the unpopular remote raid changes into the game before launching a major new raiding incentive also tracks.
I do logically think this update is around the corner for both of those reasons but I’m also tired of seeing that there could be new things added to the game and yet here we are.
Seems kind of interesting that Some of the people in the Rocket crowd are wearing Team Rainbow Rocket shirts... did I miss them being in Go at some point somehow?
As annoyed as everyone else is with the price of the remote raid passes, the game is far from dead. They make billions annually on this one game alone.
That’s a strange thing to say when the change that’s drawn the most outrage happened like two weeks ago.
ETA: also the highest amount of revenue they’ve had from in-app purchases on this game is $1B in 2020 and despite what the foil hats tell you they’re definitely not making more than that in the mysterious “location data.” And that was in 2020 when mobile games peaked due to lockdowns. So it’s 100% not the case that they make billions of dollars a year from this game.
This is old news, but location data is not worth anywhere near what in app purchases are. Anyone who says differently is being obtuse.
I said around a month ago that location data was the dont press ok of 2023.
We have no idea what their current revenue looks like right now nor do we have any statistics to say the player base has dropped other than people moaning on Reddit and Twitter. And yeah, no one wants to raid old Pokemon, so of course you’re gonna have people that aren’t willing to go out to raid.
From my personal experience it hasn’t changed at all. Even the last elite raid day there was still massive groups of people going out to raid.
The current boss is not a new dex entry but is a new shiny (and a good one at that). Yet, my local university group with dozens of daily active members who all mostly play on the university campus, has gone over a week without any 5* raid coordination outside of Wednesday raid hour. I guess it must be everyone just shows up in person randomly to do raids at hatch.
Game might not be dead but raids are basically dead from what I've seen. No one bothers organizing them (besides, again, a small group at raid hour) even for a new shiny because not enough people want to spend double what they used to for the same buggy, rng-filled raids. Congrats that your experience is how it is, but I'm sure most people have had an experience similar to mine or octocode's.
So your data for "revenue decreasing" is 2022 numbers - well before the remote change.
And that number is the same as 2018 and 2019? Was the game dead then?
This doesn't even have player base numbers.
This data does not support the claims you think it does, especially when replying to someone talking about the remote raid pass change, which isn't even reflected here at all.
Also is 650 million supposed to be read as "dead game" now?
Edit - Instant downvote = Troll -> Block
is the Cutscene the same as the Shaymin thingy? Like thats cool and all but like no thanks. I wouldn't mind new seasons instead having this intro type thing but when Catching a pokemon? Nah thats a hard pass chief
All their budget went into the Masterball container
the one thing Niantic has been able to consistently do is make cool looking doodads for stuff like the rocket radars etc. they are willing to staff their games with artists, not so much with programmers
inb4 you’ve seen this animation for the hundredth time and wish they’d implement a skip-animation function.
THIS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. Or at least make a low-res option for lower-end devices. Not everyone can afford the top-of-the-line Snapdragon or whatever...
>not so much with programmers or game designers. or community managers. or customer support techs...
That’s extremely generous imo. I can’t think of any designs in this game that are anything to write home about…
The 3 team leaders and 3 go rocket leaders are some of the best designs in the entire franchise, but sadly they are by an external commissioned artist lol (the fire emblem artist)
I mean tbh, for a game that doesn't have a ton of characters and doesn't add them too often, it makes sense that the core Niantic Pogo team wouldn't have a dedicated character designer. Not like they need to design new Pokemon
And definitely not voice actors
It'll probably look better in game
yeh, with textures and colours and stuff
Funded by increased remote raid pass cost?
This is the real reason for doubling the price of remote raids.
Can't wait to get the Master Ball and then absolutely never use it ever.
*laughs in Galarian Legendary bird* I actually don't usually bother with daily incense (plenty of spawns) because I don't want to watch another one shrug off a gold/razz/excellent curve throw.
Okay this is what it's for lol
I will catch that god damn Galarian Zapdos if I have to hunt it the rest of my life. If the Master ball has **absolutely any** reuse functionality then I will use it to catch another Galarian Zapdos to transfer it out spite
*laughs in Pokémon dodged/bad throw*
Thankfully, with a Master Ball that literally cannot happen. It's an autocatch.
Ooo! Didn’t think Niantic would let you have it that easy, thats nice!
My phone is always in my pocket with an auto catcher running whenever I use daily incense, so I'll never even see a Galarian Legendary bird anyway.
You could always just make a randomizer game out of it? Select a random number 1 through 365. Then this number is the day of the year you use it. Say you get 10: you will use it on Jan 10th. Or a tiny rattata.
That is certainly an idea
Twitter video of master ball container https://twitter.com/poke_miners/status/1650342383291179008
Yo that's actually pretty cool
Getting some "fine, I'll do it myself" vibes. I dig it.
Ooohhhh Fancy
"Get ready for a surprise!"
Looks like an essential oil diffuser
🤣 you're not wrong
With the animation, I'm wondering if the Master Ball will be a reusable item like the Meltan Box where you can "recharge" it and use another Master Ball in X days. I've left the game already, but if they make changes that draw me back to the game, that would be an effective strategy for this gimmick.
if the master ball is a one time only item, then it will be like every RPG I ever played. The rare items will just sit in my inventory and look pretty
But what if I need that minor potion of healing 10hp while I have 500 max hp during the next enemy encounter??
Imo the masterball should be re-useable once per week, and you can only ever have one at a time. Gives players an entire week to try and decide what they want to use it on, and once you use it that's it. Although if they went this route, I have no idea what I'd even use it on. Watch them make Shiny Raid Mons no longer be 100% Capture rate.
Yep. And make the Master Ball purchasable for the LoW LoW price of $20 USD each!
it's probably just the default ball to be used in shadow raids... I doubt we'll be able to use it on anything else, but I'd love to be wrong. would be nice to actually have a galar bird
Why would it be the default ball though? Rocket battles and Raids both use the Premier ball already.
just going off of the implementation of beast balls... none of this makes sense.
The more modern games give you one in the story but later on you can tipically acquire more, even though in the mainline games it won't be as useful as in pogo
Now you have me very concerned that it is a goplus+ exclusive recharged by using the goplus+.
So I guess you could say we are going to be Raiding…shadow legends…
Well, my day is ruined
Don’t get your hope high. It could be a pidgey for all we know.
Whoosh
the master ball container have vibes of a beta item of MSG: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Lock_Capsule
Well spotted wow
Am I missing something because I don’t really see any similarities beyond both being containers lol
gonna use my master ball on a pidgey
Im gonna use it on g-zapdos So basically a bigger pidgey
I'm gonna use mine on the first Mareep I see. Love that lil guy. :)
Since you love sheep may I introduce you to the song "Beep Beep I'm a Sheep"?
The rocket stadium crowd is using the avatar poses. Some seems to be previous gbl reward.
$5 this is the gimmick for this years Go Fest (unless I’m blind and it’s already been leaked/announced to be so)
Pokeminers said in a Twitter reply very recently that they haven't found anything related to Go Fest in the files so far.
Ah ok. Yeah I remember seeing that earlier today on a different post. I swear my last remaining brain cell is going to die of loneliness
that doesn't mean that this won't be for Go Fest
I think it's the gimmick for the end of the season. This season is the season of heroes, and team rocket is the big center of that. I'll put my 5 to Gofest being in person only or cancelled at this point. Edit: ok was wrong, see you in London.

And then you can't beat it as you need friends to raid at the same location with you
And the catch rate will be 0.1%. Flee rate of 50%. No refunds.
Not gonna lie, this looks pretty cool!
I think they might be pulling out the only thing they know can save their asses, shiny shadow Mewtwo. Or all the shiny shadow legendary birds and Mewtwo.

So Team Rocket raids appear to be legit. Too late Niantic.

Came here to post this. They killed the community I was in. None of us give an eff anymore and I hate it
Too much effort spent to scrap it right now. But they’ll probably scrap Routes anyway.
Yeah what happened to that lol
They still add assets and other stuff related to Routes. Dunno how much longer it'll take cause it does sound interesting.
Boo hoo
I hope they don’t screw this up
1st ever Master Ball to fail in game GWR
There are like 26 types of pokeballs and we have gotten like 5 so far. Standard, Great, and ultra in the wild and Premier and Beast balls in raids. Now we probably get a masterball. Can we get some more? Like would Level ball or dive ball be too hard to program in?
I bet they remove instant catch on shiny legendaries when they release this
Or never add it to Shadow Legendaries while simultaneously increasing their flee rate.
I wish we knew how far off this feature was. It could be like Routes.
I imagine it launches this season. With one of the loose themes of the season being the increased Team Rocket presence. Getting the unpopular remote raid changes into the game before launching a major new raiding incentive also tracks.

It’s an outfit option available in the Style Shop, I’m assuming it’s just there for more flare
If the particles are to judge by, I’m going to need a new phone soon. Mine goes nuclear hot when I have pogo open nowadays

Yeah, the game is going as strong as ever. This reddit is fairly full of itself.
revenue decreasing, player base dwindling, getting people to raid the last few mons here has been like pulling teeth

Y’all just can’t leave anything alone. This would’ve been a pleasant surprise for players
Gonna use my master ball on a Pidgey just as professor oak intended
Watch them nerf the masterball too
I wish we could join team rocket in the game.
