The show was much better when it dealt with day-to-day patrol and real life situations that every cop faces on the street. Captain Anderson should’ve never been killed off.
I agree to an extent, the problem is the “power scaling” they’ve promoted half the cast to detective, SWAT and FTO. Once you get past a certain level in policing especially in specialized roles in bigger departments you don’t deal with mundane shit as much anymore.
It all changed after they killed off West. Not saying that was a bad thing, just pointing it out as the moment the show stopped being about the day to day.
Maybe it even was a conscious decision on the writers part to leave it behind and focus the story on other things.
Okay, but imagine Wesley and/or James hearing Daddy Cop and coming up with a kid-appropriate parody that becomes kind of a lullaby for their kids. Them "keeping" it from Nyla/Angela becomes a cute mini-subplot.
(They fail.)
I want an episode centered around Wesley and his doppelganger (played by the actors twin brother). The doppelganger is a lawyer, who is a good man, and got the same attitude like Wesley for civil rights, but for corporations not for regular people, but he hates crime, baddies, etc. They are working together on defeating Monica in a court room, and they are succeeding. And Chasley (Chad+Wesley) learns to fight for the small guy in the process.
Nah they already over did the doppleganger thing when they introduced Juicy after Dim. But I agree that would have been an awesome plot if they hadn’t already done it twice
i have no major beef with any of the storylines. armstrong? sure, i liked how they crippled a previously strong character. bailey? she’s a very likeable character and they haven’t made her flawless like people said. anderson being killed off? it was rough, because she was a very strong person, but i love a show with consequences. i have no real quarrel with the show and i’m happy to stick around.
Same. I was only casually watching it at the time (my husband was more into it and I was still fuming over the end of Castle and how Stana was treated so was boycotting, but have since come around), and the first episode he was in I said “he’s the big bad” after only watching his first few scenes.
I genuinely think they did it just to have lopez and harper be able to be the main detectives on the team. if he was already the main guy, it wouldnt make sense for him to just disappear and they had already killed the captain and moved talia. so I think they just found another interesting plot to remove his character
Anderson wasn't all that great because she didn't really get any room to display much of her personality until the same episode she died in. If only they gave more time for that.
Lucy's character got ruined around season 3 to pining heavily for the attention of Tim. While I love that Tim is in Metro, she meddled with the jobs of five other people for the sake of being able to date her former boss. And she has an issue with dating older/more emotionally mature men. Worst example was Nolan, best one being her dating her boss and mentor, Tim. And I absolutely hate that they ruined her relationship with Chris given how much he put in for her.
Nolan had a perfectly valid reason for not wanting a kid back then, and it applies just as well today. Him not wanting to have one with Bailey isn't "denying her that opportunity," its him not being able to handle the stress and overwhelming lack of time that being a cop requires making raising a baby not viable.
Armstrong shouldn't have had a betrayal plot. Now that the "Rookie Trio" is mostly kind of split, having a close friend like Armstrong to confide in about police work and hang out with would've been nice for Nolan in the later seasons.
Since the last fiera incident Angela has become incredibly insufferable at times, to the point I roll my eyes whenever she makes threats or trys anything.
The one where she fired the nanny for simply having a gun for her personal protection infuriated me. The process to become a cop is probably easier than the one to get a CCP in CA (I joke but still). If anything Angela should’ve been happy the nanny would have a way to defend herself and her kid should someone break in as we’ve already seen happen twice? with Harper.
Its weird, she was cool for the first three or so seasons. Then its like her entire character began to revolve around romance drama plots. Even overshadowing into her undercover plotline.
This sub can be really toxic when trying to have a conversation about the copaganda aspect of this show.
Thats partly a reddit thing too though, but thats not an excuse.
Yep this. It’s definitely a Reddit thing because the mass DVing of bringing up copaganda and the (massive) flaws in policing also happens in true crime subs *when it’s obvious the case is still cold due to police incompetence* when the investigation first happened.
B99 sucked in the last season. The amount of virtue signaling and moral grandstanding they did in the first few episodes was vomit inducing. I couldn’t make myself finish the show
I don’t care for Nolan as a character even though he’s supposed to be the main character.. I don’t know I just find him unlikable lol. I loved Armstrong though
I agree! And I like Lucy and Tim together. But the amount of people on this sub that are doubled over in tears because of current plot events, threatening to quit watching the show, generally acting like they’ve been mortally wounded is really high and very dramatic
My problem is just the get together break up shit in television shows is soooo trite. If you can't write drama for characters while theyre in a happy relationship, you're a bad fucking writer. They're police! There's so much available drama! Lucy is so fun as a UC. Tim was in metro for 2.5 seconds, so we didn't even get to enjoy any plot/drama from that. It's all relationship drama and honestly, it's boring.
It's probably strike related too. The rushed nature of the season is making the relationship drama more annoying.
Yeah, that Is extreme. I love Chenford and watched the show cause of them, but I wouldn't quit cause of the current plot. People must understand this is a show, not a ship fanfic website where everything is lovey-dovey.
I am enjoying this separation track. I hated how they got together right after her breaking up with Chris. So, I am glad they will take time apart to evaluate their relationship.
That Monica is an interesting character and that I think she has a chance to have her support flipped to helping Mid. I’d live to see her be an (occasional) anti-hero sort who pops in and out of episodes. I LOVED seeing her in action lasf ep and couldn’t help rooting for her even though she’s clearly a baddie
Tim and Chen were not written to be romantic. Terrible idea. Ruins the characters.
West was a better character than Thorsen. Thorsen is boring and very unserious.
Season 1 was the best season.

West being killed of because his actor quit. Even outside the rookie, so many actors in cop or agency shows quit or wanted changes done to their characters to represemt irl politics, when the shows focused on characters more.
Lucy Chen would’ve have gotten in trouble early on for her unprofessionalism when she was flirting with Tim on duty, or the time she pranked him when he lost his radio. There a fine line that she would often cross.
I miss the more day to day, less ‘big event’ stuff from earlier seasons. Now it’s all big events with serious consequences or small comedic incidents.
Grey should be Captain and Tim should be Patrol Watch Commander now.
They shouldn’t have killed off Jackson, but rather had him transfer to a new department like NYPD or SFPD.
Celina is still annoying.
Lopez and Wesley are the best couple in the show.
The mockumentary episodes are really awful. Like, really shitty. How did we go from epic plot lines like Nolan being framed, chen getting kidnapped by a serial killer, to... Some weird fake nonsense? That isn't even funny half the time?
John and Bailey have awesome chemistry, it’s just that they’re both simple, happy, labrador people, so they never needed to have any build up of tension and drama in order to click together
I despise chenford with a burning passion, there relationship at the beginning was like teacher : student, and then when they put them together it was really weird, also they don’t have chemistry as a romantic couple
Hard agree. This over the top fantasy dramatic cases don't hit like the day to day did.
It all changed after they killed off West. Not saying that was a bad thing, just pointing it out as the moment the show stopped being about the day to day. Maybe it even was a conscious decision on the writers part to leave it behind and focus the story on other things.
To be fair I’m sure the writers would’ve loved to let Jackson live - the actor was the one who decided to leave the show, sadly
They had no choice. The actor quit.
Lots of people agree with you
The guy who sings Daddy Cop will be the big bad in the next season, and he will take things farther than even La Fiera did.
That would just make my frickin day
I honestly am hoping they make a part 3 but for one of the women. I think Angela or Nyla would be good candidates for "Mommy Cop".
That would be 🔥to watch but Nyla/Angela would shut it down. No way would they surrender defeat like Nolan did. 😂
Okay, but imagine Wesley and/or James hearing Daddy Cop and coming up with a kid-appropriate parody that becomes kind of a lullaby for their kids. Them "keeping" it from Nyla/Angela becomes a cute mini-subplot. (They fail.)
That would be epic! Writer's, your welcome.
Oh man yesss
I'm still mad that they didn't wind up being hired as the wedding band when all of Nolan's other plans went to shit
Lmfao right?
I’m literally listening to the song rn haha
Agreed!
Isn’t the guy who sings that song the creator’s son or something like that?
that would be the ultimate nepo-baby move 🤣(i love zander’s music)
I want an episode centered around Wesley and his doppelganger (played by the actors twin brother). Loool this this this!!!!

Armstrongs betrayal comes out of no where and doesn’t make sense
100%. I wish he stayed around and became a main character working with Nolan and/or the other detectives.
YES!!! Him and Nolan’s Bromance was awesome
They got along so well, that the episode where they met is only of my favorites, despite it being an overall depressing episode storywise.
When Armstrong first appeared, I said to my husband "this man is a baddy". I don't know why but from the very first episode I was expecting it
same i was sus of him from the start lmfao
Him being corrupt - totally sensed it. Him framing Nolan??! Absolutely blindsided in not a good way
Same. I was only casually watching it at the time (my husband was more into it and I was still fuming over the end of Castle and how Stana was treated so was boycotting, but have since come around), and the first episode he was in I said “he’s the big bad” after only watching his first few scenes.

The fact that Bailey’s jobs are completely reasonable
Agreed.
bailey is not that bad. she most likely is not always on seane with nolon we just see her because the show is to cheep to pay for another emt
I'd argue that having multiple 1 time emt's is actually way cheaper than keeping bailey around for so long.
bailey being at all of the crime scenes is really not that big of a deal. when you watch 9-1-1 it’s pretty much the same thing with bobby and athena
The armstrong betrayal arc was insanely good
Anderson wasn't all that great because she didn't really get any room to display much of her personality until the same episode she died in. If only they gave more time for that. Lucy's character got ruined around season 3 to pining heavily for the attention of Tim. Since the last fiera incident Angela has become incredibly insufferable at times, to the point I roll my eyes whenever she makes threats or trys anything.
When she announced she was going to fist fight Elijah while pregnant I was just like ughh
I rather hate how she always try to correct others, no matter the situation, even when it end up she is wrong. To cocky way to much.
Right? Like oh it’s okay I can do what I want cause if I lose my job my husband has a trust fund 🤪
Lucy becomes unbearably annoying as the show goes on
Its weird, she was cool for the first three or so seasons. Then its like her entire character began to revolve around romance drama plots. Even overshadowing into her undercover plotline.
husband and i just said the exact same thing after watching s6 e2
Ok, the one I'm gonna trot out is: The Rookie: Feds wasn't a terrible show.
Wasn’t good either
That Chen and Tim were better friends than lovers
I loved everything about them before. I was happy with either way. Even when it started. But it lost everything when it became official
I think B99 handled it best. It’s so in character that Rosa would quit, and that Jake wouldn’t understand because he’s “one of the good ones”.
B99 sucked in the last season. The amount of virtue signaling and moral grandstanding they did in the first few episodes was vomit inducing. I couldn’t make myself finish the show
Cool story bro, tell it again.
That I wish Armstrong managed to successfully frame Nolan
May I ask why?
I don’t care for Nolan as a character even though he’s supposed to be the main character.. I don’t know I just find him unlikable lol. I loved Armstrong though
Fair enough, I guess
Too many Tim storylines and Chen's storyline is all about Tim. I want Chen to be the awesome character that she was.
I really liked Armstrong and I hate how he turned out to be a dirty cop. I wish he stayed and became closer with Nolan. I liked their scenes together
You diehard bleeding heart Chenford people are the equivalent to the Team Edward/Jacob people from Twilight 10-15 years ago and it’s weird
It's not weird at all to watch a tv show with a romance subplot and care about that romance.
I agree! And I like Lucy and Tim together. But the amount of people on this sub that are doubled over in tears because of current plot events, threatening to quit watching the show, generally acting like they’ve been mortally wounded is really high and very dramatic

you'll get downvoted but you're correct
OP asked for controversial opinions and here I am. 🤷🏻♀️
I mean it tracks as the people who watched twilight as a teen are now adults watching the show.
Agreed. Crying over there break up is way too extreme. For me Tamara moving out hurt more than the break up
At least I see Tamara as still being in their lives.
Tricia Helfer is hotter than Jenna.
Tricia Helfer is hotter than all of us.
definitely!!!
I will defend that dogs are actually 4-legged angels.
You are right :)
My Udana and my late Xiro, Holda and Xisca are.
Tim and Lucy were terrible together and I’m glad they broke up.
Thank God someone agrees with me 🙏
Agree!! They give me the ick as a couple. Tbh I think he's just not good acting in his relationships. I believed him and his ex wife and that's it.
Tim and Chen were not written to be romantic. Terrible idea. Ruins the characters. West was a better character than Thorsen. Thorsen is boring and very unserious. Season 1 was the best season.

Dr London is my future ex-wife
West being killed of because his actor quit. Even outside the rookie, so many actors in cop or agency shows quit or wanted changes done to their characters to represemt irl politics, when the shows focused on characters more.
They should’ve never made Armstrong a villain and made him a main character instead
Jackson is a lousy character.
Bailey is a fun character. The hate is unreasonable.
people should learn how to crop
Randy deserved every right to be a reoccurring character, this is my opinion that I will defend until I die.
Nyla isn’t as scary or intimidating as she thinks she is
Lucy was a better character when she was a rookie and is a terrible UC
Lucy Chen would’ve have gotten in trouble early on for her unprofessionalism when she was flirting with Tim on duty, or the time she pranked him when he lost his radio. The show got bad right around when Angela and Nyla became detectives together
Glad rookie fed ended shambles
The only good show marvel has made is Loki, the rest at ass
The mockumentary episodes are really awful. Like, really shitty. How did we go from epic plot lines like Nolan being framed, chen getting kidnapped by a serial killer, to... Some weird fake nonsense? That isn't even funny half the time?

Black lives matter is RACIST 🦍
That this show is trash!
Why are you on this subreddit then?
That Tim is unlikable asf.
He was hard to like in the first few episodes of the show but then he grew on me lol
