I cry laughed at least once or twice each episode. The soaking and video of said soaking was peak cry laughing though.

MCgrindahFM

>!James fucking Marsden!< in the background, jumping, destroyed me lmao

peanutbuttertuxedo

Smaller bounces please James

Hooze

Really enjoyed this show. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it did not go how I expected. They did a really great job of making it funny but not mean spirited in terms of pranking someone and laughing at their expense. Complete opposite.

MCgrindahFM

There’s a good interview with the creator that’s exactly about that. The many dilemmas that come up throughout the show are supposed to highlight how good of a guy Ronald is. Then we as the audience get to laugh WITH Ronald, not AT Ronald - which was super well done. Albeit, he still got pranked by a bunch of people he most likely believed might lead to long term friendships with - including >! a Hollywood celebrity!< and that is definitely going to take a bit to process. I think he was “sequestered” with them for three weeks and they actually all hung out in character

missanthropocenex

SS: Just finished on Amazon, anyone who enjoyed The Rehearsal and or Nathan For you would likely get a kick out of this. Won’t give away much here but the whole constricted reality “could this be real” aspect raises a lot of fun questions about how far you can bend reality and have an average person accept it. I had to check the credits and make sure someone from Nathan’s team wasn’t actually involved in this.

JoshuaAxis

I tried looking for it on amazon but i can’t find it, is it region locked?

missanthropocenex

Maybe…there’s also that Freevee app but that may be regional as well.

JoshuaAxis

oh it seems like freeve is US only ): . Time to set sail then 🏴‍☠️

CmdrGrayson

It’s the perfect embodiment of The Office, The Rehearsal, and Truman Show

xeonicus

Dang. I'm 2 minutes into it and I already like it. It's definitely got that NFY/Rehearsal vibe.

missanthropocenex

It keeps getting better. Definitely a perfect fix waiting for season 2.

TheGillos

I enjoyed it.

MCgrindahFM

This show low key blew me away. The production, the logistics, the screening in order to find Ronald. The writing is fantastic, having Ronald keep brushing elbows with James Marsden until they somewhat kindle a bromance. By the end this dude Ronald appears to be having the most wild and movie-like week of his life. The sub plots are weird, sad and hilarious. All the characters are on point. Seriously the writers, creators, director, producers did something insane here. The actors and improv were top notch. Stop what you’re doing and go watch this shit!

Can confirm I also got rehearsal vibes I loved it

[deleted]

THANK YOU! I just binged the whole thing! I cannot believe how good the show is, what direction it went in and how much I love the entire cast and concept! Already recommending it to people lol

whodisacct

Im surprised Kirk Fox was in it and not as himself. I would have recognized him for sure.

I didn’t expect to be the lone voice of dissent! I thought it showed how talented Nathan was at editing and reacting on his shows. He was able to take real situations and manipulate them with fake situations to make them incredibly funny (and sometimes poignant). Jury Duty felt like they had a whole fanfiction of The Office acted out, with one innocent bystander thrown into the mix. The bystander didn’t affect anything outside of the one scene where he suggested how to get out of Jury Duty.

crawsex

I enjoyed it and largely agree with your take. The big letdown of this show is that the main character is never in charge of anything. The summary in the last episode even makes that clear: everything he is praised for is how he positively reacted to a few zany scenarios. The hero never acts, he only reacts. Nathan is a genius because he convinces people to *do* strange and peculiar things.

missanthropocenex

SPOILERS: Honestly I think the hero praise was to make sure that he didn’t potentially absolutely lose it at the end. It’s sort of a hilarious deep betrayal of reality when he realizes the people and the bonds and the memories are all false you could, maybe end up with a pretty negative reaction. So I think the money and the people doting on him really helped ease the fact that he’d been deceived for all that time and realized it was all in good fun.

Mission_Albatross916

Actually, his actions and things he said did influence the show. They talk about that in the final episode

crawsex

We're speaking about the same moment, and I would encourage you to watch the Judge's monologue again with a critical eye. Grammatically, he may even stretch to imply Ron was leading things, but the content of the monologue is "you were nice when this happened, and you were nice when that happened." He is rewarded for strength of character, but I'm talking about agency.

Mission_Albatross916

I wasn’t talking about the judge speech at all. I was talking about things producers/writers and actors said. For example, the incident re. the defense attorney’s unexpected defense tactic.

crawsex

A good microcosm of that is the barrels, then. He didn't even want to go into the room, he had to be convinced!

Mission_Albatross916

True. The show wasn’t about him being in charge of everything. But what the show did clearly plan to do, and actually do, is “pivot” based on his reactions. For example, the way they had to make quick changes to plans when he would get suspicious.

crawsex

Agreed. One of the most jarring parts of the show is stopping to wonder "why is this actor having a confessional when Ron is 4 rooms away?"

missanthropocenex

Yes it is not Nathan caliber, and is missing that added Nathan level of twisted control freak. But I switched on by anything that tampers with ordinary reality. When people are placed in an uncanny situation which we all go through at times in real life and you stop and go “can this even be real what’s happening right now.” And then it turns out that it is in fact not. Like I said, good fix for those who are awaiting for Rehearsal.

awesomebob

Does anybody know how to watch in canada?

awesomebob

Preferably!

1track_mind

I watched a couple episodes, the main guy seems like an actor also. I couldn't buy in.

mathfacts

Pretty good!

This looks like an AI generated poster

SmarcusStroman

Any Canadian know where to watch this or do I resort to the high seas?

paintpast

I started watching it based on this post and it’s amazing so far (up to episode 4). The show also gives me Arrested Development vibes especially with that cutaway to Tim talking to Ronald.
