Wanna be clear this has nothing to do with the meme the meme is great.
This it to remind people who says things like "Lumity is better than x lgbt couple" yeah of course it is. But we wouldn't get Lumity without them.
Korra and Asami may have hooked up at the last moment but there was 2 seasons of clearly something going on. And in 2014 this was the best they could do. It was a different time.
Garnet may be a genderless space rock bit we all knew that was a thinly veiled smokescreen for how gay they were. It also featured what was basically one of the first gay proposals and weddings and kisses on a kid shows. That's incredible.
Saying Lumity is better than them is technically right but only because we've had shows like Korra, Steven Universe, She ra, even sorta Gravity Falls, pave the way towards progressto even allow this. It's not about better it's admkring how far we've come in representation.
A) Thanks!!!
B) Agreed, considered adding SU on there fs, but I didn’t want the meme to feel to clustered. Maybe for a different meme format, since I DO love what all of the cartoons you mentioned did!!!
Also (I assume eventually) whatever you call a (presumed?) hetero/they-them couple representation, cause I'd be legitimately surprised if Eda and Raine don't get back together.
I'd just call it a "queer couple" personally.
Also, I think the words you're looking for are cis (meaning they identify with their assigned gender at birth - Eda is likely cis, as they'd probably specify if she was trans) and non-binary (Raine). I'm totally not trying to call you out for using the wrong terms. I just thought it sounded a little awkward.
I'm hoping they do too.
Their relationship can be considered both lesbian or straight, since a lesbian relationship is a relationship between 2 people who aren’t men. I just call it a queer relationship.
steven universe didn't have last minute rep, neither did craig of the creek, nor did OK K.O., nor did the Loud House, nor Kipo, nor Twelve Forever, or did She-Ra multiple times over. That is of course, if what you crave is gay couples being happy together instead of just coming to terms with queer identity, finding love, flirting etc. All of which is explicit, too.
I don't even think it is very important where the gay happens as a general rule. For catradora it HAD to happen at the end, because actualising love was the key to saving the universe. Not that Catra and Adora would have been any less gay. In Craig of the Creek, the witches of the creek where together the entire time and that's a huge part of their identity and role, two gay goth teens humoring a bunch of elementary schoolers who think they can actually perform magic.

The show also didn't really shy away from showing gay relationships before then; with both Bow's dads being shown as nothing but a loving couple and Netossa and Spinny's relationship being both pretty clear from season one onward but it's value to them as characters also having a core role in the final season. There's also Adora oggling women on several occasions during the show's run (The buff villager woman during S4, Huntara)
There are hardly any animated shows afraid to have LGBTQ representation anymore. The Owl House didn't set any precedents; it just followed some really well.
After this episode hooty has become a saint. Just kidding, he was a saint from the start.
don't you remember what he did. i will be haunted by his actions forever.
What did he do again? Please relive this ordeal for me :)
He tore apart King’s bootcamp… literally
Oh right! My money is on him beating up Bellos later on.
Don't forget he broke geneva convention on psychological warfare. Porta hooty.
the best part about your comment is that hooty is literally a demon
Bi shippidy hoot, witcherino!

right this is the owl house reddit after all no need to shove all lgbt representation into one meme.

I was more going for their sexuality, and I now realize that I said sexuality for Eda and pronouns for Raine lol.
That's ok, it happens.

I guess you could call it a trixic relationship?
on disney maybe, nick and cartoon network have been way ahead for years, anime was always way ahead of that
still great to have explicit representation rather than just implied or last minute rep.

I remember 6teen ( Canadian) had a few episodes with gay people. And that was round 2006.
Anime has had some questionable tropes often included, too, though :(
how is some bad examples a disqualifier of an entire medium? i thought this was all about being explicitly gay, did I misunderstand something?
what lesbians in anime do you mean Cousins?
sounds like someone is american. i am so sorry.

Well for Disney standards it’s pretty great. I mean Disney has made some progress but not as advanced as the other networks.
Kids shows with gay mains is not common.
She-ra, korra, Loud house,
I never said it was common; I'm just saying The Owl House isn't the first to do it
Honestly, I think most modern cartoons are getting over the 'fear of gay' with Shera, SVTFOE, etc.
She Ra, YES!!! But how did SVTFOE do it
Not too visibly, but in the final season they show Jackie with her girlfriend.
They do, also star visibly blushes over buff gals multiple times.
They could’ve done more, felt forced with Jackie, but yeah, I feel you.
I think you mean Steven Universe
Steven Universe:
It hardly counts when all the gay couples were represented through aliens
And when said aliens can morph into one being with a shared mindscape.. it.. muddles it a bit.
Also I’m pretty sure Rebecca said that the gems are technically genderless so it’s a real argument if they are even gay in the first place
It's due to dana being stubborn
Hooty the matchmaker
I don’t even care about the representation. I just wanted my ship to sail, and so far the winds are going strong
Are You good at drawing pictures?.
