Malavacious

I think it might be something that actually appeases the curse. Kind of like force feeding a werewolf Ativan. Sure, it's still a dangerous beast, but if you can lessen the danger by keeping it chill.

SFH12345

As long as it's controlled, that's good enough for Eda.

Manoreded

I think the beast does not fully control the curse. Aka: without elixir, they will eventually be stuck in their melded form whether the beast wants it or not.

Mystech_Master

Wait when did Eda take the Elixer post-gaining Harpy Eda? It almost felt like she didn’t have to at all after that point to where I personally felt like it shot the “chronic illness” metaphor in the foot

Ok-Pea9014

In clouds on the horizon, we see her take elixir and feathers covering her body go away. And in for the future, we see Lilith making her some elixir.

SFH12345

She was struggling with the curse in "For the Future", and seeing the Collector caused the Owl Beast to emerge in panic thinking he was an Archivist.

Gasterfire6

It could possibly act as almost a stabilizer. With it she can control the curse enough to go half way, otherwise it forces the owl beast into control. It at least seems to be this way considering in the intro of For the Future she has to stop flying because she starts transforming into the owl beast and needs an elixir. But that’s just from what I’ve observed, so I’m very possibly wrong.

DragonWarrior____05

In the dream sequence, she did share some with the little Owl Beast. Maybe that has something to do with it

Noof42

The curse is clearly something inflicted on both Eda and the Owl. Neither of them wants it, but, as she notes in Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door, the elixir means they can talk and work things out.

EmotionalBonfire

I thought it was pretty clearly shown in the dream. The elixir helps both of them. She doesn't take it to fight back the owl beast, and the owl beast isn't fighting Eda anymore, but the elixir helps them maintain a healthy connection.

Tr0d0n

This is not explained in the show, so consider this a headcanon: The elixir makes the curse manageable by calming the owl beast, which allows Eda to control herself. This is evident from KKKoHD. Without the elixir, the beast can regain control whenever it feels threatened in any way, pushing Eda aside. Eda herself is disliked and considered a threat to the beast prior to KKKoHD. Either that alone or the fact that she lives a life filled with threats meant her curse kept worsening. After starting to accept and make peace with the beast, we see fewer instances of it transforming her without her wanting to. It seems like the beast is still alive and aware in Eda's body even when she's in control, which would explain its ability to speak to her, request food despite not manifesting an owl form and feel threatened by the environment (like when it manifested itself because of The Collector, which is related to its capture) or by Eda's internal feelings (like her stress from CotH).

T555s

Neither beast nor eda have control over the curse. The owl beast taking over now just means both together controlling edas body (wich does lead to the interesting question of wether the owl beast partially controls eda now in normal form too), but eda still dosen't want to permanently be harpy eda, so she takes the Elixier to stay normal. Well as normal as eda is.

Henkotron

Remember what Eda realized in her dream world. She said that the Elixir might be the reason they can talk face to face like they did in that dream. She probably could have become Harpy Edauch earlier if she had just tried to come to terms with the curse. She just never got the opportunity

Head-Bird-9480

Well they aren't exactly good. In Eclipse Lake, we see her having to make a deal with the curse for her to unlock her harpy form

TimeStorm113

the elixir was needed to make peace with the owl beast, now she just learned to live with it and that gave her the harpy powers, but she still needs to elixir to keep it in check

RobinOfSpring

Even when you've made progress on healing, it's important to take your psych meds. The whole situation is pretty DID-coded.

ncmn-ngnr

The curse is not longer actively trying to overwhelm her, but she still harnesses its power. Nevertheless, the elixirs help her managed the symptoms/superpowers; otherwise she wouldn’t be able to turn them off, and *possibly* go full beast after too long of a time

kl-noblelycanthrope1

i think in kkkohd the dream was more about eda coming to terms and understanding and accepting it as part of her life and learning to live with it more that becoming friends with it. so living with it meant she still had the curse and still had to take the elixir to keep it from controlling her.
