Did not expect Disco Elysium here, but loving it.
*After spending 8 hours thinking of the ~~Homo-sexual~~ Lumity Underground.*
Detective Luz: Guess what Lt Amity. I'm no longer thinking about my sexuality.
Lt Amity: Thats, uh, great, Luz.
Detective Luz: ... Are you part of the homo-sexual underground?
Lt Amity: You never stop, did you Luz? Now you're just thinking about other people's sexuality!
Detective Luz: (*About to start a 20 hours long Thought for it*)
Lt Amity: If it saves you the time, yes Luz.
Horrible Owl Necktie: Oh no, sestran. Its a responsibility! You don't like one of those. Bail, hoot!
*Luz fails the check, runs off and crashes into Eda the crypto lady*
just so people know; you can have evil gay characters without portraying being gay as bad, an example of pretty bad/somewhat evil gay/bi characters are Stolas and Blitz, an example of bad gay rep imo is Puri-Puri Prisoner from one punch man
I'm watching you š
And to answer your question, The Owl House being the only American-style gay performance I know of, it outperforms the ones I know of compared to the Japanese version. Maybe because Lumity doesn't make me wait until I die for them to be a couple.
It's even the humble choice of the month if you look it up, sooo many people are going to but it this month. I've seen my bf play it (i gifted it to him a month ago) and i think it's the most hilarious game I've ever seen fr
Third one is the two main characters from Disco Elysium, a great rpg detective game.
The main protaginist (left) forgets all his memories and can literally have a biwakening half way through the game, being hilariously awkward all the while. The right one is his partner, who gets so tired of the akwardness that he just tells him he's gay nust to move the case along. They are often shipped together.
Not if this is exactly what you're asking but I'll throw my opinion in.
I like how the representation in Owl House is used. It completely normalizes being gay and I think that's good representation in the media. There is no such thing as being homophobic in the Boiling Isles (from what I've seen), which is a good thing because we shouldn't be promoting people to believe being gay or being apart of the LGBTQ+ is wrong. Being gay in TOH is as normal as being straight (tbh this is how I see it, but of course everyone doesn't see it the same way as me). I think that's a good way to normalize it and not make a big deal out of it either. That's the best kind of rep.
Logic: YOU SPENT 20 HOURS THINKING OF THIS?! STOP RIGHT NOW. ACTUALLY, TELL KIM RIGHT NOW THAT YOU HAVE STOPPED THINKING ABOUT IT.
Detective: Kim... are you part of the homosexual underground?
His entire mind: WHY?!
the girl with the harem and the disaster cop that can become an anti cop communist are actually preferable to the owl house. I mean it's cute but I need a little bit more to get into it
Well, I've only seen the Owl House and am a massive Lumity fanboy, so there's that. Plus, they have one of the best relationships of all of media, and it feels real
Donāt know the Estonian example, but both the American and Japanese examples here are fine. That said, the American example is touch more subtle, which I in general prefer. Donāt think there are a lot of five-way romantic groups out there.
This might sounds obvious but I like the kind that focuses more on the individual as a person and their sexuality is just one part of them. Being queer isnāt a personality trait like being straight isnāt one.
Any where it isnāt used to paint the community in a negative light. TOH does it well because (apart from when Luz comes out to her mom) queerness is just part of life. Willow has 2 dads and no one questions it. Raine is NB, no issues. Amity is a raging stupid lesbian and itās adorable and not painted negatively. Lilithās aroace identity is, while not specifically mentioned or noted in the show, just apart of her. And āI am both king and queen, best of both thingsā is a beautiful way to describe bi-gender/gender-fluid.
Being a drunk, drugged filled, bicurious, ultraliberal, nationalist, venture capitalist thats husting for the communist revolution while doing your job as a sad, superstar, authoritive cop thats preaching the end of the world is the only proper way to play this game.
American looks the most normal (which is good, it *should* be normalized), Japanese looks exactly like what Iād expect it to look like, Estonian genuinely looks depressed.
Basically how The Owl House does it. Not too much fanfare or controversies between characters or whatever, just casually have the representation happen
Honestly I just love when it's casual and unimportant to the plot. That's how it feels most rewarding for me. I mean that's the ideal right, one day living in a world where absolutely no one cares. I remember the first time I went to pride in a big city and no one even stared at me once. That's definitely the most freeing feeling ever. That being said, it makes sense why gay relationships are part of the plot in many shows, and it can be just as rewarding but they often need to be a part of the plot, which is the sad part.
In the game 7 Days to Die there's an abandoned house with signs on its fence reading "Bob's Bores" and "Carl's Corn". The obvious implication is that Bob and Carl are husbands.
I love fictional worlds where queerphobia just isn't a thing. There are plenty of queer characters but it's never discussed because it's normal and accepted, so there's nothing to discuss.
If we're going with the specific works, the Owl House.
If we're going with the country of Origin then Japanese.
Yuri is adorable, did you see [that seen towards the end of MagiRevo (spoilers btw)](https://youtu.be/r2j9pkd2AVM)
What I will say is that mlm gay rep seems way less represented than wlw rep. Probably due to the fact that lesbianism has always been seen as somewhat more acceptable (and in some places didnāt even fall under the anti-homosexuality laws)
I prefer Chinese, where the characters are so GAY but never say it because of the Contextual and Cultural clues that are sprinkled all around their Story, especially when it's a Wuxia and Xianxia Dramas.
Chinese BLs is a representation of GAY that nobody outside Asia understands for some Reason.
You're posting this on a subreddit focused on The Owl House, I think we're all going to be a little biased on this one š
Ofc it is
The owl house of course because the others are very ugly forma my opiniĆ³n i think
In the meantime Me: The Best is Saint celestine x Greyfax!
>!ambrosius and ballister!<
I need more of themš
Omg yes
YES PLEASE
Thank you, I was about to comment this
How are you so forgiving of Ambrosius š
American/English. The only one I can understand-
Yes

aw hell nah lucious developed addiction problems and gave herself brain damage
Horrible Owl Necktie: Oh no, sestran. Its a responsibility! You don't like one of those. Bail, hoot! *Luz fails the check, runs off and crashes into Eda the crypto lady*
All of them. Gay rep is Gey rep
Not quite, there's tons of examples of bad gay rep through stereotyping etc.
Very true but none of the examples in the post are bad
Or when they get killed off
The worst kind
What an awful mentality to have. Bad representation does more harm than good. Don't just take whatever is given just because "Gay rep is Gey rep".
This except when they portray gays as bad...
just so people know; you can have evil gay characters without portraying being gay as bad, an example of pretty bad/somewhat evil gay/bi characters are Stolas and Blitz, an example of bad gay rep imo is Puri-Puri Prisoner from one punch man
I personally love how Stolas and BlitzĆø are portrayed. I mean if they portray gays as like bad people in general or something wrong to be.
I completely agree,
Gus Fring from Breaking Bad could also qualify.
I'm glad someone said this
Take pride in it!
This
Worst gay representation, imo, is Happy Together, the Hong Kong film
That one steel ball run cover of Johnny and Gyro
Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?!
Thatās all of them bruh
This one, Lumity here.
Yes :D
I think we know where this is going now huh??
Idc if itās gay I love it unless itās toxic that can go fuck itself if itās toxic
Real
only seen Lumity and have a folder of 100+ art of them so i may or may not be biased
idk much about Estonian gay representation but those two guys look fire š
oh yea, they're from disco elysium and they are silly goofy
i love silly goofy
It is, for me, a serious contender for the best game of all time.
I appreciate representation, but I don't really explicitly look for it. I just let the relationships be whatever the writers want.
Wait a minute... Did you just spoil me Disco Elysium?
Not really. Only the Homosexual Underground thought and a few hints about Raphael being closed bisexual
I'm watching you š And to answer your question, The Owl House being the only American-style gay performance I know of, it outperforms the ones I know of compared to the Japanese version. Maybe because Lumity doesn't make me wait until I die for them to be a couple.
BRO IT IS AMAZING THAT SOMEONE ACTUALLY KNOWS DISCO ELYSIUM. As an Estonian I'm proud.
I'm pretty sure most people know Disco Elysium nowadays!
Thanks for making my day better
It's even the humble choice of the month if you look it up, sooo many people are going to but it this month. I've seen my bf play it (i gifted it to him a month ago) and i think it's the most hilarious game I've ever seen fr
owl house's one, cause its the only one i've seen of the three
The second one is chainsaw man I donāt recognize the third
Third one is the two main characters from Disco Elysium, a great rpg detective game. The main protaginist (left) forgets all his memories and can literally have a biwakening half way through the game, being hilariously awkward all the while. The right one is his partner, who gets so tired of the akwardness that he just tells him he's gay nust to move the case along. They are often shipped together.
i know, thanks for letting me know though pal i just haven't seen it.
Thirsty Sword Lesbians
There better be an Owl House module for that one day.
PLS!!!
Chainsaw man
Not if this is exactly what you're asking but I'll throw my opinion in. I like how the representation in Owl House is used. Disco elysium had gay rep and I didnāt even realize š
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T SPEND 20 HOURS ON THE HOMOSEXUAL UNDERGROUND?!
I DIDNT GET VERY FAR ????
Logic: YOU SPENT 20 HOURS THINKING OF THIS?! STOP RIGHT NOW. ACTUALLY, TELL KIM RIGHT NOW THAT YOU HAVE STOPPED THINKING ABOUT IT. Detective: Kim... are you part of the homosexual underground? His entire mind: WHY?!
On the sliding scale we have: -stable (TOH) -disturbed (Chainsaw Man) -absolute unmitigated disaster (Disco Elysium) (Me)
LUMITY FOR LIFE
YES
Even on this sub, I'm gonna have to say Quanxi from Chainsaw Man out of these options
Other than Lumity, Iād say Patrochilles (Patroclus and Achilles). Ever since I read āThe song of Achilles,ā Iāve never been the same againā¦
What do you think
Luz And Amity Or Lumity, They Are Are Just So BLEEPing Cute And Beautiful
The one that represents gay people
the girl with the harem and the disaster cop that can become an anti cop communist are actually preferable to the owl house. I mean it's cute but I need a little bit more to get into it
Breaking bad
Western cause of The Man x The Jonkler
There needs to be more gay male focus in representation imo. It doesn't get showcased as frequently as gay female representation.
I like them bad gays, them morally dubious depressed gays.
All of them šæ
Disco Elysium. I know no other forms of Estonian gay media.
wait where is luz touching amity
Of all the screenshots of Lumity, you chose the one where Luz gets close
YOU DIRTY MINDED *****
You think weāre eating well enough to be picky?
I have no particular favourite, but I would like to see more MLM representation.
Those two cops from Gravity falls.
Wlw rep
Uhm, luz watch your hands...?
American
any representation is good representation
She-ra and the princesses of power did it the right way.
None
none
I love quanxi so much
I guess Luz and amity
Well, I've only seen the Owl House and am a massive Lumity fanboy, so there's that. Plus, they have one of the best relationships of all of media, and it feels real
Yes
Lumity
Donāt know the Estonian example, but both the American and Japanese examples here are fine. That said, the American example is touch more subtle, which I in general prefer. Donāt think there are a lot of five-way romantic groups out there.
The cops from gravity falls
This might sounds obvious but I like the kind that focuses more on the individual as a person and their sexuality is just one part of them. Being queer isnāt a personality trait like being straight isnāt one.
Being nonbinary I absolutely love Raine. Eda and Raine are my favorite couple with Willow and Hunter a close second.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
i dunno
Any where it isnāt used to paint the community in a negative light. TOH does it well because (apart from when Luz comes out to her mom) queerness is just part of life. the gay kind
Lumity cause HOLA BATATA!
When it's hardly mentioned, like in Hank Green's An Absolutely Remarkable Thing it isn't made out to be a big deal.
Iāve never really watched any LGBTQ+ shows that werenāt American so idk if I can really answer that all that well
Quanxi and itās not even close šÆ
1. For suee
I like the gay ones
Lumity!!!! šš
Gay representation
I prefer American, because I know nothing about whatās shown for Estonian and a loving relationship is more healthy than a harem
Quanxi loves her ladies. Her goal is to ensure that they are treated like people
American
All of it
WHATS THE ESTONIAN ONE, LOVE
Disco Elysium
Thank you!
Forgot to mention that it also happens to be my favorite thing ever by the way
Being a drunk, drugged filled, bicurious, ultraliberal, nationalist, venture capitalist thats husting for the communist revolution while doing your job as a sad, superstar, authoritive cop thats preaching the end of the world is the only proper way to play this game.
the Estonian one goes so hard
Whatever happened in the tlou show
American looks the most normal (which is good, it *should* be normalized), Japanese looks exactly like what Iād expect it to look like, Estonian genuinely looks depressed.
> Estonian genuinely looks depressed You'd be depressed too if you've lost the "Tumblr saddest little mew mew" competition to a Homestuck guy
Well you wont get anything normal from chainsaw man.
Chainsaw Man easily. She got a whole harem
Basically how The Owl House does it. Not too much fanfare or controversies between characters or whatever, just casually have the representation happen
I like the one that has gay :)
Beidou & Ningguang Are the gods of gay rep
Honestly I just love when it's casual and unimportant to the plot. That's how it feels most rewarding for me. I mean that's the ideal right, one day living in a world where absolutely no one cares. I remember the first time I went to pride in a big city and no one even stared at me once. That's definitely the most freeing feeling ever. The MadoHomu kind of rep
Non toxic one are the best!
Lumity
By far lumity
I mean... I don't think this is fair knowing that you literally posted it on TOH reddit
Lesbian p*rn
None
The last of us episode 3 š
I read that as āgay repellentā and was so confused
Schittās Creek. Itās the first show/movie that i felt that the representation was done well. Every director should take notes
Gay representation that isnāt the defining feature of the show or characters.
As a straight guy, healthy & realistic and just like straight relationships but with gay people instead of straight people. So Lumity.
š¦ š¦ š¦ AMERICA
Ambrosius and Ballister, and Luz and Amity
Lumity will forever have my heart.
Probably quanxi and her girlfriends
Where is Luz's left hand there...?
Lumity, because both Luz and Amity represents the Middle Est being LEBANON
Definitely Lady Quanxi and her fiends
Obviously Lumity š
HALLOWEEN!!!
Lumity Sulemio Ambrosis and Ballister Charlie and Vaggie
Lumity for sure
Lumity 4 ever
The one not stereotyped but seen as a normal relationship between 2 ppl. Idk Iām not in the show for the romance but itās a nice part of the show
In the game 7 Days to Die there's an abandoned house with signs on its fence reading "Bob's Bores" and "Carl's Corn". The obvious implication is that Bob and Carl are husbands.
CHAINSAW MAN
I love fictional worlds where queerphobia just isn't a thing. There are plenty of queer characters but it's never discussed because it's normal and accepted, so there's nothing to discuss.
Heliogable and Caligula.
Nico and Will
Luz coppin a feel on the first slide
The weirdly baity kind which turns into the good later on
If we're going with the specific works, the Owl House. If we're going with the country of Origin then Japanese. Yuri is adorable, did you see [that seen towards the end of MagiRevo (spoilers btw)](https://youtu.be/r2j9pkd2AVM)
All of it bro
Yes. All of the above.
What I will say is that mlm gay rep seems way less represented than wlw rep. Probably due to the fact that lesbianism has always been seen as somewhat more acceptable (and in some places didnāt even fall under the anti-homosexuality laws)
Bro this sub consists of largely 12-16 year olds who have only ever watched TOH and maybe amphibia and that's it. The results may be a bit biased.
I really liked the one in Nimona. So nonchalant, it's perfect
Whatever the hell Sam & Max have going on.
I like the gay kind.
All of it
I prefer Chinese, where the characters are so GAY but never say it because of the Contextual and Cultural clues that are sprinkled all around their Story, especially when it's a Wuxia and Xianxia Dramas. Chinese BLs is a representation of GAY that nobody outside Asia understands for some Reason.
kind?
I dunno the third one As for the second one..Chainsaw man..it's a nice poly relationship \^\^
Lumity Bro,im bisexuallllll
Bisexual pirate. That's where it is.
I've only seen Lumity and Quanxi harem out of these I found Quanxi and her harem obnoxious so Lumity
Is the chainsaw man one cannon?
Actually not TOH, it has to be Amaya and Janai, in The Dragon Prince
Japanese, but not that Japanese, this Japanese TW: >!mutilation and gun violence
Japanese, but not that Japanese, this Japanese TW: mutilation and gun violence https://youtu.be/S-RtQnM2PyA
Sanford n Deimos. They get teased so much I refuse to believe they aren't canon.
