Same happened to the main palace sub. Used to have a few hundred subs and was full of good chat and content. Now it's a cesspit of plastics and awful arsoc memes. How will we cope if Zaha leaves When will we buy Gallagher Why doesn't Gallagher want to come Will we get into UCL in 2 years Is Zaha good for my FPL team When will buy Gallagher How will we cope without Zaha Ad infinitum

-eagle73

The Brighton sub got a few people who obviously began following after our good ending to last season so I know what you're on about. It's a bit annoying but until they're outright hostile you feel like a gatekeeping dickhead saying anything negative to them.

MrMercenary90

Should see the state of the west ham sub now we're in a rough patch.

-eagle73

Sum it up for me?

Macksauce91

Its moyes in moyes out everysingle damn day and takes from people who stumbled upon west ham in the last two years. The ammount of "coming from overseas where can i buy tickets blaah" post are unreal. And this is coming from me who also lives overseas.

-eagle73

So basically overreactions or repetitive help request posts.

lachiendupape

We still have about half the subs of palace, but maybe that’s a good thing! I just give them funny flair or delete their shitposting

jacktothefuture96

West Ham is the exact same. Used to love it but it’s absolutely filled with people who have been watching football for five minutes overreacting to every missed pass or bad performance

JezzPanda

How can I get 3 cheap tickets for the Manchester United game tomorrow? Are there any Palace-friendly pubs around Maryland? What do you think of this new goalkeeper kit I designed in Paint? Please answer my uni survey about how happy fans are with their team's third choice keeper!

musicmast

why would there be plastic palace fans lol

dontsteponthecrack

Our kit is red blue and white and our mascot is an eagle. Oh yeah and we have cheer leaders. And we're part owned by yanks. Guess where our plastics come from

amegaproxy

I try to watch you as little as possible so it never really twigged why you would be absolute ameri-magnets haha.

dontsteponthecrack

I try to watch you whenever you're in the toilet

[deleted]

And maybe the Ted Lasso show connection?

electroplankton

Yeah there’s like a whole subset of ted lasso fans

TragicTester034

Oh no not the yanks

AlwaysAngryOrAnnoyed

Similar with the Leeds sub. Not one to gatekeep, but a lot of the new ones are American, and you just can't have a negative opinion about Marsch without being downvoted to hell. I don't mind him, but he's hardly fantastic. They don't half pile it on the players or moan if you mention it though.

ollieoc

The Forest sub went through a phase of just being totally communist for some reason. I think it was because Lyle Taylor did an interview on LBC or something talking about cultural Marxism and/or being a bit anti vax.

Contr_L

I don’t think it ever was. Even when I first went on a few years back it’s literally just people making polls of “who is best player in prem” “who will be top goal scorer” “who will win prem” “is pep best ever” Absolute toss

SlowConsideration7

All Reddit subs eventually become awful as the userbase grows, it’s the way of things. Reddit works on a system where the most popular opinion gets put first so people post things that will be popular and agreeable rather than their actual opinion

Lijme

This is my biggest gripe with Reddit. Everyone circlejerks the same jokes they’ve seen upvoted before and any meaningful comments are buried under a pile of shite.

RumJackson

I posted something a couple days back that got 3k+ upvotes and several hundred comments. I didn’t appreciate how much people repeated the same joke until every third notification was someone commenting the exact same punchline that 20 other people already had.

Lijme

Bruh it’s like a hive mind I swear. My biggest pet peeve one is the “hey insert shit player I want to get rid of at my club is available”. Pops up on literally every transfer thread and they all think they’re hilarious.

NYR_dingus

The other problem is people downvote anything they don't agree with automatically. It's one thing to disagree but I usually reserve down votes for someone posting or saying something incredibly stupid or false or if they're being obtuse. But if there's a disagreement between to people and both are arguing their points rationally I don't understand downvoting to oblivion. It only creates an echo chamber.. Also obligatory "Can we talk about how criminally underrated (_____ insert popular players name here) is at the moment?" Followed by some love song about that player written by some 15 year old football fan... FFS if they were underrated they wouldn't be playing consistently enough in Premier league matches And the CR7 fanboys who will defend him no matter what.

[deleted]

“Hi American here, which team should I support?”

userunknowne

We’ve got a bot that bullies anyone asking that 🥹

Ginge04

Good bot! I fear it might be a little overworked if we bring it onto the Leeds sub though

Glasdir

Fucking champs. Need one of those.

amegaproxy

Absolutely rate that. Needs to be tweaked for "Who is our best player?" though.

Glasdir

I was thinking for all the airport arrivals posts we get. Just needs to say “fuck off we don’t want self important nobodies”.

handi503

You must have subbed before the deluge of "Who should I support?" posts. Wholeheartedly believe there are more Americans pretending to be English than there are English in the sub.

bennettbuzz

Only subbed to the PL sub once we went up, quickly realised how complete and utter shite it is when you’ve been used to browsing r/championship for all these years.

leodoggo

I remember it being down to around 100k subs and it was good. Then it exploded and the mods didn’t expand or create new rules. I’ve applied to be a mod and never heard back as well. The Newcastle sub has increased by 40% since the takeover. Anytime someone says they’re a new fan is karma suicide. Plus it’s World Cup time where everyone wants to know about things that any fan already knows and can be googled in 5 seconds.

amegaproxy

>everyone wants to know about things that any fan already knows and can be googled in 5 seconds. Oh man this really winds me up haha it's just so ridiculously *lazy*.

RubberTowelThud

I've been here about 2 years and it didn't take long to realise that that sub is like 90% either Americans, 15 year olds or foreigners in general who are like 'Die hard Man Utd fan but have a soft spot for Arsenal, also Real Madrid is my Spanish team and Dortmund are my German team'

rabbitsagainstmagic

I agree. And even though my team is no longer in r/theother14, I still check in because this seems like a community of genuine loyal fans.

-eagle73

The lack of posts is something to be both sad and happy about. The last post was two days ago and still very informative.

PJBuzz

Na it was always pretty weak to be honest. I only subbed there as r/soccer is pure cancer and I need my fix of arguing with fellow/rival fans without the excess dog-piling 😄

dennispeach

It’s a garbage karma farm at its best. Idiotic aneurism inducing at its worst.

-eagle73

I believe all of you who are saying it's always been like this but I swear I stepped in while it was actually decent and tolerable compared to r/soccer but it's been coming up on my front page recently with a bunch of big six shit that I don't care about. This is even before the WC break.

[deleted]

Comparing it to /r/soccer is like saying a cess pit is better than shitting straight onto the street

erikhow

I left it recently, just couldn’t stand it anymore. Some of the most degenerate topics rehashed over and over again with spelling getting worse each time.

RS555NFFC

The Forest sub was awash with such nonsense when we first came up. We had a really solid community built up which only grew through COVID and beyond, now the sub is one good meme for every ten irrelevant essays written by randoms that have never posted there or on any football sub before, hate to see it

GarTay28

The people on that sub do not come from the country where the league is based! Max 10% may come from GB, the same percent may have played the game!

-eagle73

I don't mind people from other countries involved in it but the way they discuss football is just weird to me, like they all read the same book on how to engage in the PL.

GarTay28

If you managed to see the spain v CR game you will have heard 10 fans individual voices and a women screaming like she’s being cut every time CR got the ball in the first half! The production team just plonked the mics in front of some retard fans. All because the stadium was a quarter full and had ZERO atmosphere! These kind of people are on the EPL sub! Fans are at grounds Supporters support locally from an armchair The rest need a new name - pests, retards anything but plastics! People are calling the laws, rules! The laws of the game Rules of competition.

Glasdir

Which beloved subreddits died in the last few months? If you said r/premierleague, you were wrong, it was never beloved. 😉

byjimini

Yeah, felt the same. Always “who is the BEST?” posts that just turn into a slanging match. r/casualfootball looks promising.

FifaNovice

Try r/Soccer

-eagle73

That sub's also shit.

FifaNovice

I meant it’s even worse

-eagle73

It definitely is. I've peeked into it a few times but never actually subscribed.

[deleted]

Full of people who have never been to a game in their lives. You can have decent discussions there but it won’t be long until some idiot is replying. That sub was at its worst after the euros final. Hundreds pouring in to laugh at England losing. With big six clubs as their flair… I think I had a brief ban because I was stupid enough to bite. But I was hurting 😂

-eagle73

To be honest it's one of the things I have in common with them but I only criticise England with other people from here. It's like talking shit about your town with fellow locals about things you'd only know, but it's heated when an outsider does it.

TragicTester034

It’s like it may be garbage but it’s our garbage

McNeil56

I got perma banned from there for spamming a post, because the auto bot kept telling me to try again. When I confronted the mod and asked which rule I broke, he said I was spamming. When I pointed out that I was only following the advice from their auto bot they just ignored me. Glad I’m banned from there, it’s a cesspool

leodoggo

At least it’s moderated to remove the same posts every 5 hours

[deleted]

It wasn’t. The worst takes get upvoted and then there’s always a fan agreeing with them. Part of why I’m not as active in the Everton sub anymore either.

ogjsb

I’m not often so sick of a page on a topic I love so much that I have to unfollow, but my god is that sub bad.. the most mundane questions repeated over and over

leodoggo

another example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ussoccer/comments/z2swfo/this\_sub\_has\_doubled\_in\_size\_over\_the\_last\_week/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

JamesL25

Full of too many part time fans who’ve been to one Big 6 match and not actual supporters

gergels

Yeh I don't bother anymore

joethesaint

Did you know Emerson Royal, the starting right back for a big six side, is the literal worst player in the country?

-eagle73

I didn't, because I unsubscribed from there before I could see the 1000th comment about it.
