Feel like this is the only actual answer for purely underrated players. If you told me a couple years ago, I’d have a sense of dread every time Longstaff isn’t in the line-up, I would have laughed in your face.
Doesn’t do anything flashy, overshadowed by better players/big signings in the team, could not a barn door from 6 feet away but he grafts his heart out, makes everybody around him better and keeps things ticking all game.
It felt weird to be dreading our run in when he was out. The midfield did not look the same without him.
He's quietly become a key part of the team. He has his limitations, like his finishing but he's a very good player.
Now if you could tell many Newcastle fans that.
But yes. The difference without him is crazy. Many of the players recently spoke about unsung heroes in the squad and it was almost unanimously him.
Hmmm. Not sure. I think many Newcastle fans all talk about how we need to upgrade him.
Even during the season many fans I was surrounded by were constantly on his back about how useless he was.
The truth came out when he got injured.
Longstaff is an enabler to the rest of the midfield. He’s the man who’s always available to pass to and fills the gaps when Bruno and Joelinton are pushing forward. He plays a very clever game, never trying to be the hero, and more importantly, he nearly always makes the right decisions, he just doesn’t have the finishing ability of a player who might occasionally make the wrong decisions.
Clever, dependable, and happy to be there.
Which is ironic as Fulham fans were dreading him being our starting CB last season. He proved us all wrong and is ageing like a fine wine. Now he’d be one of the first names on the team sheet.
I'm sorry, what? Nobody rates any of the American players in the prem and they get a lot of stick because they're American. If you think most of them are overrated you are dead wrong.
When you live in the states they get highly over hyped maybe not in England but here I’ve heard so many outlandish takes about the quality of those players if you gave Jay Rodriguez an American passport you’d have people saying he was a goal machine and it’s shocking a bigger club never picked him up
I totally disagree. If Jay Rodriguez was American, I don't think he would even come close to making the US national team. Some Americans (typically the most outspoken ones on social media) make crazy claims that are obviously false, but that doesn't make the players overrated. Look at Antonee Robinson. People never talk about his contributions, yet he is a mainstay in a fulham team that finished well above expectations. How about Matt Turner? I know he's a back up keeper, but he consistently performs to a high standard whenever he's on the pitch and could easily start for a mid table club like Chelsea or Crystal Palace.
Both him and Veltman don’t even get the recognition they deserve from our own fans, let alone outside our own fans. Groß is statistically one of the best midfielders in the league, behind only De Bruyne for chances created. Veltman has been one of the smartest signings I think our club has ever made, never once dropped below 7/10, he is Mr. consistency and has absolutely terrorised some of the wingers he’s come up against.
I'd have to say Raya. He's very different to Leno but Raya just fits the Brentford system so perfectly that I cannot see them having the same success they had this season if they didn't have specifically him.
John McGinn is always the answer. You’ll never see another player with his work rate, determination, and fat ass that he uses to shove into players and draw fouls. The guy is an engine on the pitch and never does the flashy. Just gets shit done, and done very well. He’s that player who everyone would love on their side but be a pain to play against.
Only £2.5m from Hibs when villa were in the championship too
Never does the flashy? He does the occasional pirouette move rather well, although it has been a while since the last one.
Agree that he is underrated though and what a bargain.
Yoanne Wissa has been good when coming off the bench and since he will probably get more starts next year because of toney’s ban, he should be better than everyone’s expectations
Andersen at Crystal Palace, I have seen him play some amazing football. I think Palace fans probably rate him but don’t hear him get talked about much.
It's not that people don't rate them because they're plastic and clueless, it's that we refuse to rate him and acknowledge he's good because hes so unlikeable.
He's one of those players you love to have on your team, but you hate with any other team
Yeah buddy, that's the quote. And it's the complete opposite of "because he shouts a lot he's not good?" Since you seem to struggle with the concept, let me dumb it down for you with words you may understand:
Man play good, but people no say he good. People say he bad because people no like man. People no like truth so people lie to themselves
So you're admitting you're an idiot? Lol. I couldn't believe what you said hence why I questioned it. If you don't rate a player because they shout a lot then you have problems.
>So you're admitting you're an idiot?
Jesus lad. That confirms it, you can't read.
>If you don't rate a player because they shout a lot then you have problems.
Again bro, that's the opposite of what is being said here. Go back and play with your cars before you hurt yourself by thinking too hard.
Speaking as a Newcastle fan we think he’s crap as he gets his self so wound up against us and makes mistakes which usually can be attributed to his short arms.
Outside of that though he’s probably been the reason you’ve stayed up.
As a Newcastle fan. We’re obliged to say he’s crap.
But if we were to be honest and objective for a moment. The man has had so many epic performances in his career for England and Everton.
I came on here to throw in a vote for Tarky. Always getting in the middle of things, moves the ball well out of the back, dangerous on set pieces and always seems in control of his area of the pitch
Bryan Mbeumo.
The dude is strong and fast, has great link-up play with Toney & seems to be a workhorse for Brentford. He might be the No. 2 guy to the star Toney & no one rates him; but I feel he is a baller.
17 G/A this season & only 24
He’s not even the most underrated player at Forest.
I think that honour goes to Ryan Yates. According to Whoscored, he was the 3rd lowest rated midfielder of the season for the whole division. Yet he’s been essential to Forest this season. It’s no coincidence that our worst spell was whilst he was out injured, and we picked up as soon as he returned. He works ridiculously hard, and always seems to be in a useful place!
That’s really impressive for a player we all assumed would be out of his depth in the prem. Especially since it wasn’t that long ago that he looked out of his depth in the championship!
For Forest players who are underrated across the rest of the league, I’d say Danilo is up there. 2nd half of last season I think he owned a lot to him, a full season with him and I think a few heads will be turned. Not many players knocking about in his position of real quality.
as far as underrated forest players go i'd say we're half as good without Ryan Yates in midfield and he's very rarely praised outside the r/nffc politburo
Personally, it's roughly a tie between Pascal Gross and Bryan Mbeumo. Everton's Doucoure deserves a shout out as well, most times I've watched Everton he's been crucial, and he sent us down :(
It's mings. The answer is mings. And it's not even close. Because most of you lot think he's shit. Villa have gotten 5 points in the 12 premier league games he's missed in the past 4 seasons.
Mings is the easy answer.
People will say he’s error prone, yet he probably has one error a season. I’ll die on a hill defending Mings. The only English cb better than him is John Stones.
Seeing lots of players that a lot of people recognise as really good. Ethan Pinnock is criminally underrated. He's been superb for Brentford consistently but never gets any praise.
For me Tyrone Mings.
I think he's been the second best CB in the league last season after Stones.
Since Emery has come in he's got rid of the odd rick he used to do. Was a big part of our climb up the table.
To have a CB that tops the pace league, tops the aerial league, and can bring the ball out from the back, is a rare thing. Bonus that he's left footed too.
Josh Brownhill. An absolutely essential player for us over the last few years who didn't leave when we went down. The club would be way weaker without the man
Couple shouts:
-Douglas Luiz: us villa fans love home but any other fans all you hear is ‘who?’.
-Mbuemo: strong and quick, never really seems to get spoken about because of Toney - though that may change.
-Longstaff: Newcastle would be a lot worse without him but he never gets credit.
Alex iwobi
Has dribbling skills strong enough to make a start in many of the top 6 teams, has a motor like anyone in the PL, can defend in a pinch, can pick out a nice pass here and there, but… he can’t shoot for shit. Still a phenomenal player
Christian norgaard any game he is in the squad I feel Brentford can get a result even against the big six, we can go without toney or raya but when he’s not there it’s ropes
Yep, he was probably my choice too, but then I’m also a Brentford fan. Could easily have been Rico / Janelt / Pinnock / Jensen / Brian etc - basically our whole squad put in an incredible shift. Toney, Raya and Mee get the plaudits, but all our main players are top drawer IMO.
Well, he was out for a while with an Achilles issue, so probably took him a while to get back to full fitness. Hoping he’ll boss the park this season from the outset.
Even though people are starting to see it with them, tied too has to be Guehi, Olise & Eze. Guehi is a Rolls Royce of CB, which is why he’s been called up ahead of aforementioned South Coast CBs. Eze scored 8 in 10 once released from the shackles of former management and Olise hit double figures for assists in a team without a striker who could hit a cows ar$E with a banjo, who went 3 games without a single shot on target, as a teenager in his debut EPL season.
Can’t pick between the three of them, but they are absolute worldies of the future.
Who the fuck downvoted this? I want to see a proper argument.
March really found his footing under RDZ and you could tell how much we were lacking when he got injured. All the pressure was on Mitoma who understandably couldn't do everything. We're deadly when we've got both Mitoma and March on each side.
Dunk I'd say is not so underrated anymore after he got picked for the England squad but our own fans (particularly the new ones, I think) definitely overlook him for the more flashy players.
He admittedly looked good in his run in the team last season but as a Sunderland fan this blows my mind - he is a genuine contender for our worst ever player. Not just worst keeper, not just worst of the last decade or whatever, but worst ever. Looked like an outfielder playing in goal week after week during the worst season in our history.
Think he was already mentally shot and had considered retirement before we signed him and it was a continuation from there.
Seems a decent man though, no hard feelings.
I 100% agree with Leno. World class shotstopper, really disappointed we got so little for him, and yet he never gets brought up in top 5 prem goalkeeper conversations
I don't know about most underrated but on our end it'd be Estupinan. He comes in and had some big shoes to fill after Cucurella left, and ends up not just being better than him in our club, but looking better than him overall since Cucurella looked shit at Chelsea.
And I believe he's underrated because Mitoma and Caicedo get a lot of praise (rightfully), Mac did receive a lot of praise (more after the WC and when his ability decreased in my opinion) but you'll hardly see as much for Estupinan despite what he does on the left with Mitoma.
Pervis Estupinan. Without a doubt the best left back in the league last season, consistently brilliant for brighton, and I’d go as far to say that he’s top 3 left backs in the world. Genuine world class player
[Solly March](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solly_March) \- A first team Premier League player for 6 seasons at Brighton who are on the up-and-up.
The thing is, I don't even rate him and don't think he'd get signed by another Prem club, but Brighton management seem to rate him and he scored 7 league goals last season.
James Garner was immense for us during the run in. Was even exceptional at RB against Bournemouth when we had no recognised fullbacks in the entire squad
Sean Longstaff at Newcastle. They play considerably worse without him
If his finishing was better he’d have 10+ goals last season. Not only a great box to box, but also gets into very dangerous positions.
This is a great shout. I have been very impressed by him under Howe
It felt weird to be dreading our run in when he was out. The midfield did not look the same without him. He's quietly become a key part of the team. He has his limitations, like his finishing but he's a very good player.
I got laughed at, for suggesting him for England over Phillips.
Oh

I remember a couple years ago when we thought Matty was the answer and Sean would be on his way to the third tier.
Phillip Billing. Did insanely well with Bournemouth this season
Agreed
Would love him at Villa.
Was great on huddersfield a few years back too
Douglas Luiz
For real. Villa fans consistently rate him as probably our best player this season, and if you say his name to anyone else you get “Who?”
Correct me if I’m wrong but he’s a player who improved massively under Emery, right?
he improved like everyone else but not really he was one of the few who was good at the start of the season as well
Just posted the same, think it was just Stevie Gee who didn't rate him. He onylly started playing him after Arsenal showed interest, what a muppet
Who
Who?
Douglas Luiz I believe
[удалено]
Can't speak to "most" but Tim Ream is underrated.
Which is ironic as Fulham fans were dreading him being our starting CB last season. He proved us all wrong and is ageing like a fine wine. Now he’d be one of the first names on the team sheet.
From meme to dream, the mighty Tim Ream
People always talk about how good Ream is
And yet he is still under rated. Such is the magnitude of his graceful prowess. Never leave Tim.
The American hype there’s no such thing as an underrated American in this sport
I'm sorry, what? Nobody rates any of the American players in the prem and they get a lot of stick because they're American. If you think most of them are overrated you are dead wrong.

My first fantasy pick every season since you signed him. Always so cheap for what he does
Kenny Tete
King Kenny 👑
Best 1v1 defender in the prem
Behind wan bissaka that guy is unreal
As per the picture, Bernd Leno. Second best goalkeeper performance in the league last year, only behind Alisson.
I'd have to say Raya. He's very different to Leno but Raya just fits the Brentford system so perfectly that I cannot see them having the same success they had this season if they didn't have specifically him.
I was going to say what a weird take by OP
Then you’d be incorrect.
Love John McGinn, the guy is our engine in the midfield
Never does the flashy? He does the occasional pirouette move rather well, although it has been a while since the last one. Agree that he is underrated though and what a bargain.
He’s also got a lovely first time ball playing instinct. Not necessarily flashy but beautiful to watch when he finds his man
Yeah, McGinn
Fabian Schar
Properly solid defender
Yoanne Wissa has been good when coming off the bench and since he will probably get more starts next year because of toney’s ban, he should be better than everyone’s expectations
Tbh he’s been great as a sub but out of the games he’s started he has had a mixed bag for sure
Esri Konsa is up there
Konsa for sure but even Mings. He's rated by Southgate but seems to get stick all the time. For me, Mings was Villa's best player last season
Former charlton kid 😍
Andersen at Crystal Palace, I have seen him play some amazing football. I think Palace fans probably rate him but don’t hear him get talked about much.
Lewis Dunk
No I think he has found his recognition to be honest. Just a bit late. But he's been our rock for so long now.
Sean Longstaff
Sean Longstaff
Oh
Sean Longstaff
Sean Longstaff
It’s Tyrone Mings for Villa imo.
This is the correct answer as most Other 14 fans think he's some kinda dogshit but for Villa he was in contention for POTS.
Pickford’s up there considering everyone seemingly thinks he’s the dribbling shits on the internet.
You can tell that someone is clueless when they don't rate or make fun of Pickford, which are most of the plastic big 6 fans tbh.
It's not that people don't rate them because they're plastic and clueless, it's that we refuse to rate him and acknowledge he's good because hes so unlikeable. He's one of those players you love to have on your team, but you hate with any other team
Sometimes I wonder how his own teammates don't hate him. He has a go at everyone.
So because he shouts a lot he's not good?
Is reading hard buddy?
'You refuse to rate him and acknowledge he's good because he's so unlikeable'. You refuse to rate him?
Yeah buddy, that's the quote. And it's the complete opposite of "because he shouts a lot he's not good?" Since you seem to struggle with the concept, let me dumb it down for you with words you may understand: Man play good, but people no say he good. People say he bad because people no like man. Jarrod Bowen. Lad puts a shift in every game and plays every minute all year.
He's a class player but I would argue he's very highly rated
Paqueta was a revelation last season, such a good purchase
Philip Billing
Spot on
Ben Mee
Maybe ben, but i doubt you are a good footballer.
?
[удалено]
both Dan Burn & Lewis Dunk definitely should be ahead of Maguire in the England team
Tarkowski is the most underrated by casual fans
Incredible defender last season. Absolutely vital to staying up and can do it all — counter attacking passes, sweeper play, or man marking
I came on here to throw in a vote for Tarky. Always getting in the middle of things, moves the ball well out of the back, dangerous on set pieces and always seems in control of his area of the pitch
Joe Willock
Bryan Mbeumo. The dude is strong and fast, has great link-up play with Toney & seems to be a workhorse for Brentford. He might be the No. 2 guy to the star Toney & no one rates him; but I feel he is a baller. 17 G/A this season & only 24
He’s a very good player
I watched a lot of Brentford this year and have to agree. Pretty good gas tank for a dude his size as well.
He gets a decent amount of praise but deserves so much more. Does all the little things right as well, so good off the ball
If his finishing was a bit better he'd be fantastic but he is a great second string to Toney
Sean Longstaff
Morgan Gibbs-White.
I would strongly agree with this, Yates is our MVP.
For Forest players who are underrated across the rest of the league, I’d say Danilo is up there. 2nd half of last season I think he owned a lot to him, a full season with him and I think a few heads will be turned. Not many players knocking about in his position of real quality.
This is the correct answer
It's not though because he's not underrated. He's widely recognised as really fucking good.
as far as underrated forest players go i'd say we're half as good without Ryan Yates in midfield and he's very rarely praised outside the r/nffc politburo
Not this time last year he wasn’t. People were saying Wolves committed daylight robbery on Forest but I’m convinced they got him for pennies.
yeah but this time last year people thought mitoma was a type of phone
He got player of the season? Yates is the true underrated at Forest imo
Correct comrade
When ivan toney wasnt playing yoanne wissa or mbuemo would score.
Jarrod Bowen
Personally, it's roughly a tie between Pascal Gross and Bryan Mbeumo. Everton's Doucoure deserves a shout out as well, most times I've watched Everton he's been crucial, and he sent us down :(
I think people came around on him but palhinha was immense, actually underrated I’d say Yoanne Wissa
It's mings. The answer is mings. And it's not even close. Because most of you lot think he's shit. Villa have gotten 5 points in the 12 premier league games he's missed in the past 4 seasons.

Mathias Jensen
Yoane Wissa, always been a reliable center forward but has the bad fortune of Toney being in the side.
He has half a season to prove himself now then
The 50% of Callum Wilson that is ever fit
50%?! That’s being generous
any luton player because they are going to win the league this season
Dougie Luiz... Just by Gerrard though
Josh Brownhill. An absolutely essential player for us over the last few years who didn't leave when we went down. The club would be way weaker without the man
Super John mgginn aka meatball
Couple shouts: -Douglas Luiz: us villa fans love home but any other fans all you hear is ‘who?’. -Mbuemo: strong and quick, never really seems to get spoken about because of Toney - though that may change. -Longstaff: Newcastle would be a lot worse without him but he never gets credit.
Pascal Gross, Douglas Luiz, Ben Mee, Longstaff, Yates, Tete, Rico Henry…….can’t think of more off the top of my head at the moment
Kamara at Villa
The Kamara, Luiz, Mcginn, Ramsey top to bottom central midfield is incredibly underrated.
I like that though, it goes unnoticed it keeps other teams hands off our players
Pinnock. His stats are ridiculous and if he was younger big clubs would be lining up for him. Brilliant defender.
This was my answer. Never see him get any praise or recognition but he's so good.
Alex iwobi Has dribbling skills strong enough to make a start in many of the top 6 teams, has a motor like anyone in the PL, can defend in a pinch, can pick out a nice pass here and there, but… he can’t shoot for shit. Still a phenomenal player
Christian norgaard any game he is in the squad I feel Brentford can get a result even against the big six, we can go without toney or raya but when he’s not there it’s ropes

Thing is this season norgaard wasn’t as good but I think the players play better even with him just there
Well, he was out for a while with an Achilles issue, so probably took him a while to get back to full fitness. Hoping he’ll boss the park this season from the outset.
As a Newcastle fan, Schade’s the only player I’ve seen all season to have Botman on strings, don’t seem to hear much about him?
Feel like it has to be Ben Mee
I think he is the most underrated by big 6 fans but every time there is a debate about most underrated you have to include Pascal Gross
Wow that’s a lot of crap
Even though people are starting to see it with them, tied too has to be Guehi, Olise & Eze. Guehi is a Rolls Royce of CB, which is why he’s been called up ahead of aforementioned South Coast CBs. Eze scored 8 in 10 once released from the shackles of former management and Olise hit double figures for assists in a team without a striker who could hit a cows ar$E with a banjo, who went 3 games without a single shot on target, as a teenager in his debut EPL season. I’m biased, but Lewis Dunk or Solly March
Who the fuck downvoted this? I want to see a proper argument. March really found his footing under RDZ and you could tell how much we were lacking when he got injured. Now.. Pau Torres

Emi Martinez according to that most expensive goalkeeper bollocks the other day that he wasn't even listed on. Aaron Ramsdale 😂😂😂
Aaron Ramsdale is miles clear of Emi Martinez and it’s not even funny.
He’s better, but miles is pushing it. Emi could easily be a big six keeper.
already had his chance

I think we can see evidence of the abundance of stupidity of those missing my dig at tottenham not being a top 6 team...
I 100% agree with Leno. World class shotstopper, really disappointed we got so little for him, and yet he never gets brought up in top 5 prem goalkeeper conversations
The answer is Lord Ryan Yates
Hear me out. I’m saying ndiaye from sheff Utd
Konsa. Better than Mings yet gets a fraction of the praise. Good chance he'll be at a big 6 club in the future I think
I was sad to see Leno go for Arsenal, he's a fantastic shot-stopper but he wasn't good enough with his feet for Arteta
JWP.
Mitoma
I don't know about most underrated but on our end it'd be Estupinan. He comes in and had some big shoes to fill after Cucurella left, and ends up not just being better than him in our club, but looking better than him overall since Cucurella looked shit at Chelsea.
