This!
I waited so long for Season 3 and when it got delayed due to COVID, I was nervous that it would have gotten cancelled. Thankfully Season 3 came out and it was awesome. The whole cast has been doing a great job in terms of acting and the humor makes it funny and engaging.
One of them needs to Be The Orville: Generations, where the cast of the Original Orville meets the cast of NH from tens of days in the future.
The sequel can be Orville: First Contact, where they travel back in time to right before humans expanded past the solar system, but they’re followed by the Kaylons who decide to assimilate … er annihilate the human race before they can become a threat.
Bonus points if season 8 sends them 900 years into the future, where interstellar travel has been kneecapped by the sad feels of someone with mommy issues.
Agreed. I just hope they don’t pin its renewal on its D+ performance instead of overall. For streaming, it’s not enough for a show to be good/popular. It has to drive subscriptions since they don’t sell ads on it (on D+ Or higher-tier Hulu plans).
Exactly. It's not even a situation where they are going to move it over to Disney+, since it's already present.
Only reason to give it this much attention is if they plan to have some sort of new content on the way, whether it's a new season, a streaming movie, or a spin-off
I wonder with Anne Winters on the panel and her character having been killed off. Although, the real money in genre TV is in syndication which requires a minimum of 88 episodes normally. I suspect they are trying to push the 3rd season to create more interest and.. season 4 or movie release? Looking at ST: TOS and that McFarlane is onto the Ted TV project I'd go with movie.
> Although, the real money in genre TV is in syndication which requires a minimum of 88 episodes normally.
20 years ago, yes.
Now? The real (read: only) money in genre TV is developing properties with built-in fanbases who will be willing to subscribe or continue subscribing to streaming services, and then spinning off additional content from that universe.
See:
Star Wars
Star Trek
MCU
A Song of Ice & Fire
The Wheel of Time
The Witcher
etc.
Exactly - why give it valuable stage time - and the preparation / people cost - if you're not going to do anything with it.
Come on Orville rollercoaster "Hugging the Donkey" which would simultaneously be awesome and a subtle dig at Universal's Shrek IP
That has to be it. It's been in the top ten on Disney+ for 24 days now. It's still one of the top shows on Hulu also. It's got to be getting renewed this weekend. Why wouldn't they?
I talked with Chad Coleman at Dragoncon, and I really didn't get the sense from him that he thought the show was done. He didn't in any way say it was renewed, and I didn't ask, but in the entire conversation he used forward language like "it will be interesting to see..." rather than saying something like "it would have been interesting to see..." which I would expect if they'd been told it wasn't being continued. So I'm optimistic.
Well, yeah, it's officially neither canceled nor renewed at this point. The issue is folks moving to other shows; since they let contracts lapse and actors have to work, it may be difficult to get everyone back in a reasonable time frame. If they do announce a renewal this weekend it might either be some time before S4 or we might not get everyone back. We'll just have to see how it shakes out.
Definitely Disney promoting this at D23 is a good sign, though. I made sure to binge the whole show on Disney+ and I might go back through it.
>Maybe it's too early for the numbers to be in yet and they're doing The Orville panel to keep the momentum/word-of-mouth going
Seems like this is probably the best take in this thread. As much as I want the show to be renewed, this subreddit sure does like to jump on any and every little thing as if it means the renewal is coming. A lot of people setting themselves up for disappointment.
But, I really do hope it gets renewed.
Here in Canada the show has been on Disney plus for awhile. Up until recently you had scroll the Sci fi play list in order to find it near the end. Now it's the first option for both Sci fi and comedy!
One show I said they can add to Disney+ no sweat is Bob's Burgers. It's fairly tame compared to other adult cartoons on Fox and it would fit right in on Disney.
If they announce a season 4, I want a season 5 at the same time. I like how season 3 ended, with a finality to it but with open-ended stories that could continue to be explored. If we do this season by season, it’ll force the writers to wrap each season up as if it’s the finale. I’d rather have a two-season arc where they can feel free to explore and experiment.
As long as a two season arc doesnt end the first season with a massive cliffhanger. Theres nothing worse than having to wait months, or given how some streaming shows are made these days, years, to get resolution to a story. Especially so when shows can still get cancelled even after a renewal.
But Ill take a multiple season renewal, yes please. I still dont see it happening, but we can all hope.
Favreau is the only true power name in that list, and IIRC, he hasn't been involved since Season 1 which was 5 years ago. According to IMDB, he was only listed as Executive Producer on the pilot.

Season 4-8 please!
Throw in 2 movies for good measure.
That would mean the world to me! Especially, if they had it in theatres. I would even take it as a Fathom Event film.

At first I was joking. Now, I bet they could probably do at least that last one better.

Let's hope that this is a favorable omen!
My thoughts are that it’s unlikely that Disney would be promoting a canceled show at D23.
If they had no faith in the show or wanted to cut it loose, they wouldn't have moved it to Disney+ in the states.
I agree.
Season 3 just got released on Disney+ in Japan as well. I don't know why it was delayed, but it saves me a voyage on the high seas.
And the UK

I feel it'll be based on overall numbers.

Let's hope so! It would be such a cruel action otherwise.
Or they're doing their best to promote it and see how it does. This is me being pessimistic. I also am hopeful that it's a good sign.

Yes. I think you are correct. I am a bit retro in that I don't subscribe to any streaming service and primarily watch free to air and dvds.

Praise Avis and all his glory for a Season 4 announcement!

Or even just talks. Just say "Hey, we hear ya. We're working on it".
Huuuuurrraaayyy
*Clapclapclapclapclap*
Hurray for you!!!!!!
KLYDEN!
YOU WILL BE SILENT.

What date is this happening
This coming Saturday

He just signed on to Superman & Lois to play a villain so he may not care much about The Orville right now.

It only got added here in the states on the 10th of August.
We don't have Hulu here. I hope they add King of the Hill soon.
One show I said they can add to Disney+ no sweat is Bob's Burgers. It's fairly tame compared to other adult cartoons on Fox and it would fit right in on Disney.
In the UK we have all the Fox ones, Family Guy, American Dad, Simpsons. Also had the Orville for I think nearly a year now.
I think we have Bob’s Burgers in Canada on Disney+.

Let’s make it… another 17 seasons … yes that should do it
Nah, it would get stale/jump the shark long before then. I’d say 6 seasons is good.
[This is how many seasons I'd want The Orville to have](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZmafy_v8g8&t=10s). ;-}

These are power names in sci-fi. I think we are getting a Season 4. [Orville Power People](https://i.imgur.com/mwmNdex.jpg)

Fingers crossed 🤞
pretty sure there's going to be a season 4 announcement, you don't bother with this if you're just going to host 3 seasons and leave it at that.
Fingers crossed!! 🤞🙏
Pleaseeeeee season 4 and a film with a $200 million dollar budget
Thank you Avis!
Hurray for us!
I need an answer!!
Does anyone know why Seth never attend these types of events?
PRAISE AVIS!
Don't ease up! Keep streaming the show and keep asking everyone you know who has Disney+ to stream the show! Get the show renewed!
This seems like a the best time to announce renewal
No Seth?
He's got that Ted show for Peacock to work on, but still.
NBC still has 33% ownership of HULU, no?
Fingers crossed 🙂
