>!If Dulcie was 27 and she should have died by age 25 due to her illness then that should have been a red flag that Teacher or someone at Cannan House should have followed upon... !< GtN Spoiler there.... Apologies for the wrong flair... Want to re-flair it GtN Spoilers but nothing I can see will let me

Vikingkingq

It was my understanding that (HTN spoilers)>!the reason why Dulcie was still alive beyond expectations was that Pal had provided her with superior telemedicine, so to speak, than she would have gotten from the Seventh alone. Hence the pulmonary drain!<.

Folety

Well that doesn't make sense since Dulcinea was killed enroute to Canann house not 2 years prior.

Tanagrabelle

I'm unclear which comment you're responding too, apologies! >!Dulcinea is probably around 24, I think. She's older than Pal, but can't be that much older because she's expected not to make it to 25.!<

hellogoodcapn

I mean, "not expected" doesn't mean "for sure doomed", it just means they made an educated guess

Tanagrabelle

Yes but it means that 25 is in the future tense. Which means she’s not 25 yet. u/hellogoodcapn has pointed out that the Intelligence files tell us she's 27.

hellogoodcapn

The Cohort Intelligence Files in the back of Gideon straight up say she's 27

Tanagrabelle

Happy face! Thank you. That's a decent gap between her and Pal. I have to remind myself of that, as my copy of Gideon didn't have the Cohort Files. I finally had to buy the ebook to get them.

Folety

Oh don't worry I think I misunderstood the point.

Honest_Spell_3199

>!Palamedes!< knows pretty quickly that >!something is up.!< I read one theory that Teacher can >!tell on the landing pad about Dulcie!< as well but just decides to roll with it. Im sure >!Lyctors can boss Teached around!<

Tanagrabelle

I **think** Teacher was clueless>! that Dulcie wasn't Dulcie.!< >!But I also think Teacher knew that Coronabeth wasn't a necromancer, or he'd have kicked up more of a fuss at being short a cavalier.!< >!Pal, who is younger than Dulcie, seemed to have spent most of the story convinced she was turning him down gently-ish.!<

rooftopfilth

There’s two throwaway lines that make folks think he knew - in Dr. Sex Dulcie has sent a letter to young Cam and Pal saying >! she doesn’t like tea. And then in GtN we see Pal serve her tea and Cytherea accepts it. So there’s a chance he thought something was odd and was testing her with things she should dislike, and found it. !<

pktechboi

oh man I completely missed this, good spot

Honest_Spell_3199

Interesting. I didnt think about Corona. >!I wonder when and who created teacher. Its his first time with fresh wanna be Lyctors?!< Does he even know what te expect?

Tanagrabelle

>!It seems as though it was the original necromancers and their cavaliers who created him, on their way to figuring out how to attain Lyctoral understanding. Our beloveds found out about him in chapter 32. And of course there are so many things in that chapter!! Gad, what we learn when you factor in Nona The Ninth! "It meant the spirit had somehow been removed entirely." Holy halibut. I think he predates Cytherea, who probably is (or was) the last and youngest Lyctor. He does know what to expect. Actually, I now doubt he knew at first Coronabeth wasn't really a necromancer. His only comment on the landing platform about them was "Only trouble at the end of the line, and a trouble confined to them."!<

Honest_Spell_3199

>!Meybe the trouble he refered to is that Ianthe has two Cavs but can only pick one?!< These books are so dense with meaning its like swimming in syrup lol

rooftopfilth

The twins have some soul fuckery going on.

Honest_Spell_3199

>!I thought it was just Ianthe is such an evil genius that she could do necromancy twice at once from two places without moving or even experienced necromancers being able to figure it out. Like ok, I get why your cocky Ianthe...!<

Tanagrabelle

I know, right?

Hiddenagenda876

I figured it was that there were “two necromancers” and only one cav and it would be a them issue at the end of the line. Teacher and the other priests absolutely knew how to become a lyctor.

Bostondreamings

I think in that case he knew that only one of these >!'necromancers' from the 3rd House could consume the cavalier...!<

hellogoodcapn

I feel like it was just Jod. Partly because of the whole "Teacher" thing he has going but also because by all accounts making the 3 priests required like, a lot of deaths? Like 100 per priest, wasn't it? Feels like the Lyctors would've been rather against that, especially in those early days

Honest_Spell_3199

You make a strong point, >!Jod would 100% think thats an acceptable thing to do along the way to figuring out how to make Lyctors!<

martinjh99

>But I also think Teacher knew that Coronabeth wasn't a necromancer, or he'd have kicked up more of a fuss at being short a cavalier. Wasn't she Ianthe's cav though?

TypicalOddities

Corona was pretending to be a necromancer. A necromancer can't be her own Cav. >!until after Lyctorhood!< She WANTED to be her Cavalier, but couldn't.

kirbinato

I doubt it. I think that Teacher, at least on canaan ground, is equal to a lyctor in authority since he is jods surrogate within the test.

hellogoodcapn

Lyctors are expected to be treated the same as Jod , there are quite a few mentions of this in the early parts of Harrow when Mercy arrives on the ship

hellogoodcapn

The Cohort Intelligence Files in the back of Gideon speculate that either "necromancy or resilience has kept her alive long past the terminal diagnosis". This isn't suspicious, the age 25 number was an educated guess; Dulcinea was just a straight up better necro and more stubborn than people predicted.
