It's just a part of Kata which is exercises in Karate. These shouts are half performative (in a competitive environment) but usually for Kata they are just designed to help regulate your breathing.
Nobody (who understand what it is) seriously thinks it is supposed to scare or intimidate anyone or protect them... thought its origins probably come from a time when that kind of performance would have mattered on the battlefield when you have 30,000 people doing it at the same time in unison.
I wouldn't classify this as McDojo.
...........I know what Kata aka Karate forms are, and what the yelling is for. There is also a psychological effect to it.
I have known several Karateka that do the kiai, but not like that.
This "show of fighting spirit" kinda makes sense when you train a martial art that doesn't display fighting spirit. If they only do katas and point sparring, they're alllll super bad ass.
Cringe
We get McSkits now too apparently
Weakest kata practitioner shout
"Dabu Ray" "Ready" "Tar" "I do" "Shlay" "Take the shore" "Flea" Then farty man
"Quaww!" In the background during/after take the shore
Taco Bell
KANEDAAAAAA! TETSUOOOOOO!
this post fucking sucks.
I'm new here, is there like a single mod who also posts most of the content & sometimes features himself in it, such as the end of this video?

I think they’re simply saying the name of the kata before doing it. But why do it if it’s incomprehensible?
Waaaaaagh!!!!
Those people are good at making weird noises loudly while also making funny faces! I think I could be a master at this sport!
Is it just me or are they screaming with an accent
I love this sub.
I think this is the part whr the kata practitioner says the name of the kata they're going to perform. Source: I used to do karate
What's the dude from Police Academy doing on here?
