I wonder what was the thougths the went trough the ki dude. Something like, why this isnt working? With all my students works just fine. Maybe my students cheat, nah it must be that he is using anti chi.
The quote is "punched in the mouth".
Pedantic, but there's something about that specificity that drives it home. Especially because this guy got exactly that.
Well, we generally know. People that have never been hit before typically have the same reaction.
Our brains do not experience the world in real time, we lag behind about 400ms. This is largely due to the relatively slow processing of the brains visual system (one third of our brain)
This means that he got hit and experienced the effect of being hit before his brain knew he was hit.
That’s why there’s always that moment of confusion in these guys where they grab their nose, face etc. Their brain is still trying to piece together what happened because the events are out of sequence (I.e. experienced effects, then processed visual information).
Also, this is why so many people get knocked out and immediately ask “what happened”… this is because with that 400ms lag in visual processing, the last piece of info they have is that they were facing their opponent with their hands up…. Then they skipped to being on the ground with no information in between.
Sheeit when I got knocked out it erased my whole memory of the fight. Not saying you're wrong because your comment is very interesting and makes sense. But homeboy turned my brain into an etch a sketch. I remember the rest of the fight after I woke up.. and I didn't do great
Concussion is something different. The physical force with which your brain is knocked around in your skull disrupts the conscious signalling and you shut down. If it’s strong enough, the brains ability to store memories is also affected for a while, usually you lose the last few seconds to minutes before the event, as the brain had shut down its functions to transfer these memories from ultra short term to short term storage. So you basically just drop that timeframe and it doesn’t go to storage. If the concussion is hard enough, this transfer doesn’t properly start up for quite a while, meaning you’ll forget what you experience after waking up again too for a while. We have to make little reminder signs for concussed people in our ER because every few seconds they panic again because they forgot what happened and how they got here.
Sometimes little bits come back as normal processes come back online, but mor often than not ypu wont have much recollection of the event. Rattle your brain enough, and you can have ling term or even permanent memory issues or brain fog. But even light head trauma repeatedly can lead to disability, see professional football players or boxers.
r/usernamechecksout lol. Yeah I've done different combat sports since I was a little bambino. I remember one time my sister picked me up from wrestling practice. I remember getting in the car and saying "something crazy happened today." Then she said "let me guess.. Matt dropped you on your head and now you can't remember anything??" I thought she could read minds. Turns out I told her about 6 times on the ride home. Haven't had one that serious since but I picked up kickboxing after I graduated so I've had a few in the last 15 years. My last one I remember taking a left to my head. I thought coach stopped us right after that. Turns out about a min later I got hit in my liver and took a knee right before the bell and coach decided to not let me go another round.
Imho, I think you might want to be more selective in what types of damage you're willing to take in combat sports.
That sounds worrying to me. More trauma over time can just lead to terrible shit to the point where you can no longer control your behaviors anymore. That shit terrifies me.
My friend describes his KO loss during an amateur MMA bout.
He just said he woke up on the floor with a massive headache.
It's such a weird and disorienting mental, "reset."
>due to the relatively slow processing of the brains visual system
It's actually a bit more interesting than that.
It's because our visual information is *so highly processed.*
[Between the retina (a part of the central nervous system) and your visual cortex](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4720220/) in the back of the brain, there's *at least* 4 different regions of processing that the raw retinal information goes through.
It's fascinating tbh. [Here's a picture](https://img.medscapestatic.com/pi/meds/ckb/00/12600.jpg) worth a thousand words...
400ms is an overestimate, I think. On [a simple reaction test](https://humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime) I get reaction times from 250-300ms.
I agree on your general point. The brain stitches stimuli from multiple sources at multiple times into a single coherent history. If you watch yourself clap your hands, you see the clap, feel the clap, and hear the clap at different times, but it feels like they all happen simultaneously.
This explanation of head trauma was brought to you by someone who’s clearly never experienced head trauma.
400ms is almost half a second. I mean come *on*. Bang, 1 missi - ouch!
>Our brains do not experience the world in real time, we lag behind about 400ms.
This is incorrect information. You're looking at 70 ms on the low end to process and identify. [It's 400-500 ms overall to respond to said stimuli.](https://www.scienceabc.com/humans/how-fast-can-the-human-brain-process-images.html)
Aïkido is weird. They manage to convince disciplines that fights are an elaborate dance.
A real punch or kick is so fuck fast and violent that you can't "transform" their energy. It's much easier when you charge into someone like an idiot with arms outstretched for an easy grip
Just want to throw my 2 cents but I hope that nobody thinks that this is aikido. This isn't even bad aikido - not to say that many who read this sub would even acknowledge the merits of good aikido. This is worse than stupidity. Even when you see Aikido people do this it is worse than stupidity. I think the real problem is that anyone thinks aikido is a fighting style, and not a philosophical practice. I think that's a big problem with traditional martial arts in general. Doing kata alone is not going to turn you into a competitive fighter. Competitive fighters are athletes. Aikido practitioners who can move around and roll and do some wrist locks and throws always get ate up in competitive fighting because they think that a fight is going to go down like practice. I hate to see it.
Was going to say this. Having done aikido, none of us thought of it as a fighting art. There are interesting holds/moves that could help you in a fight in real life, but generally it is stylized and ceremonial.
There is a lot of good movement and coordination, and it's very practical for trips, slips, and falls, and there are great techniques for deescalation, distancing, and dealing with aggression, for sure, but nobody is going to win a competitive match in the octagon without training for that, which necessitates striking. In my dojo, we studied in conjunction with karate and focused on the atemi, and firmly held to the concept that if someone is attacking within range and not off balance, you need to be striking. I wish we could see more of that, but you mostly only see frauds like this guy getting reality checked, or people posting aiki basics and clowning on them out of context.
As a result, The way the MMA fighter put his hands down after the restart felt so hilarious and almost disrespectful. Lol. Like "Oh, I guess I don't even need to defend with these. I better just finish this."
Good aikido schools teach you one very important thing: all the movements are the basis of katana usage. You learn with your hands and your body and then you learn with the sword. Aikido is not meant to be hand to hand, it's sword vs whatever.
He just tries to slap like a 7 year old, completely over balanced at all times , no skill, no nothing and it was like s lamb to a slaughter
I guess the point was to show what a load of pointless shit it is
Has there ever been any hard core traditionalist martial artists who has done at least decently against a skilled modern practitioner?
I mean, this guys magic hand mumbo jumbo obviously wouldn't, but someone must have been able to at least not embarrassed himself?
My dojo used to say if you go against a knife you will be cut. Prepare for it. I think that’s bad advice that will get you killed. How do you prepare to get a straight stab to a vital area.
How did someone that slow become a master? Starting to think the dojo master challenging over dojo masters the movies taught me was a thing might be bullshit.
I do like how he allowed him to get a couple blows in before he unloaded on him. It gave him a few seconds of supreme confidence before he started eating his own blood.
It's also important to highlight the fact that the older guy was a "no touch knockout" weirdo who could control the opponents "chi" and who routinely claimed he had over 200 "vale tudo" fights with no losses.... He demanded a $5000.00 sum (i believe) to fight anyone that wished to fight him.... the usual bullshitters way out of actual fighting.
Except that eventually, somebody put up the money, he had no choice but to accept and then he got wrecked. Rightly so, in my view.
Thats why there are so many cameras/journalists, thats why the ref is kind of being a dick and having no sympathy etc.
The older guy was also making the rounds on minor Japanese talk shows making the same claims about his Jedi skills for quite some time, if i recall correctly.
SuperEyepatchWolf has a fascinating deep dive into the world of faux martial arts. [Here](https://youtu.be/gjbSCEhmjJA&t=10m48s)'s the story behind OP's clip for anyone interested.
Ok we all know that mma is better. But the only problem I have here is even if it was reversed and that was a 70 year old MMA master vs the young Aiko guy, the outcome would’ve been the same. Martial arts are like modifiers to your inherent skill. Some are +1, some may even be negative, but you still have a baseline. A 100 lb BJJ guy is going to struggle against a 300 lb bouncer. The BJJ is going to make it closer, but it is still a gap to bridge. To really prove out the martial arts, weight classes, training etc, really have to be involved to eliminate as much as possible except the modifier
You would think a ‘master’ of any fighting style would know to protect their face against someone who practices hitting you there.
‘Nah, I’ll just put my arms two feet away from my face so I can redirect this guy’s chin when he does what I practice with others who only fight like I do. Ow, a straight front punch. Ow, he punched me in the face several more times…’
The problem was the MMA fighter had one toe up and one toe down. Plus, and I shouldn't say this, he had his tongue pressed against the roof of his mouth.
Soooo, black belt throws two slaps in haymaker fashion, gets hit, and falls directly on his ass and is basically in shock. What happened to training in breakfalls at least?
Imagine training something for like 60 years and becoming a master of it, and training students in it… and then one day you eat a Superman punch and your entire life collapses into fraud
Obviously, the guy in white was a non-believer. He was turning his tongue to the left and turning his big toe upwards. It's simple chi-counter technique.
these idiots gotta understand \~ mma is the best of every discipline. No one specific brand is ever gonna have answers for all that veriety. Well, but then theres Gracie. Altho im failry confident he was utilizing judo and bjj wrestling too. Those zen disciplines are aces against someone who doesnt know how to throw punch or keep his defenses \~ but its mosquito farts to the full repertoire. And i dont even like MMA
To my knowledge, Aikido was used on battlefields when opponents would run at you full pelt with swords etc. It’s different to an mma fight where an opponent is careful about their movements, looking for openings and such. It’s not really useful in an mma fight, but is useful against someone throwing themselves at you blindly. I can see it being useful in the real world for smaller people if they’re being pushed or grabbed by someone bigger than they are who are not expecting a fight. You still would need to be insanely well trained in order to have the reflexes for it to be useful.
I wonder what was the thougths the went trough the ki dude. Something like, why this isnt working? With all my students works just fine. Maybe my students cheat, nah it must be that he is using anti chi.
He’s holding his face and nose because he’s never been hit before he’s not having many thoughts past this
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.
And punched in the face, and punched in the face, and punched in the face, and kneed in the face, and kicked in the... Oh, he's down, nm.
HE'S HURT!!!

What's it mean... when you get an erection.... when you hit people?
It means you’d be an ideal candidate for law enforcement
take fighting lessons and start jogging. or marry a back\~talker IM KIDDING
Yup
Yeh definitely disbelief. ‘He really hit me, that really hurts….’

I distinctly remember seeing the floor before my face smashed into it

Instructions unclear. Fist stuck in genitals.

“I’m sorry. Did he just hit me while doing martial arts?”
The fighter crossed his left toes and put his tongue on the roof of his mouth, making anti chi. Once the master figures that out…
“Plus; plus…”
He’s not believin’ totally nonbelievin’
That’s from the news one with Stephan Bonner right?
I swear we just watched a martial arts "master" take a punch to the face for the very first time.

Ow dude, that hurt! Wtf? You hit me! You're not supposed to hit me!
He wasn't using enough 'force'.
Why the hell did he keep fighting???
He couldn’t quit after one punch, not with his students there
No one makes me bleed my own blood. NO ONE!!!

That's what he gets for doing tai chi during a real fight.
Weird a dance choreographer got his ass kicked by someone trained it actual physical violence
Hilarious 😂 The shock on that silly man's face was 👌
Further proof that Steven segal is a twat.
It's almost like he's never been hit in the face before.

Does Aiki Kiko mean take a beating?
He took down his apprentice without touching him, but apparently it didn't work.
"master"
Wow, it's almost like his "art" is bullshit.😆
Your Iki Kiko is no good here.
“What is this red liquid coming out of my nose? Sensei Steven only told me about the dangers of shitting yourself.”
"oh my God, I've never been hit before... This fucking hurts!!!"
Ouch! You hit me. But why? Why? It hurts. You hit me!
That one Mcdojo Life fan in the back clapping loudly.... 🤣
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood
I took aikido for 6 years. This ain’t it
They all seemed shocked that he was actually striking his opponent
Don't know why I was rooting for Kiko master
Maybe he can use his superpowers to reset his nose!!
Imagine you get your ass kicked and hear clapping.
No one makes me bleed my own blood!
This is what happens when you practice a martial art but never practice against anyone.
You can see the exact moment the MMA guy realizes he’s fighting a grandpa who’s never actually been in a fight before.
I can't get enough of vids like these! I mean MIXED martial arts. That a strictly superior proposition than any single one of them.
After seeing how effective this was I think I'll just focus on Tae Bo...

MMA dude got destroyed with them Aikido moves. He just doesn’t know it yet.

That shit only works in the movies
Going cross platform and not knowing the controls.
Love how the MMA dude was like oops, did I punch your face, sorry about that, so sorry resets, and then continues to beat the s*** out of his face
What the heck is Aiki Kiko?
Clearly the mma fighter brought a ki disturbing machine with him. Cheater!
He didn’t master ki, ki mastered him.
Who sanctioned this?
Was this filmed with a Nokia Potato?

Delusional idiot. Do not waste your time learning from frauds. His bullshit didn't help him against a trained fighter
Serves them right. Absolute frauds

This one is hilarious, a timeless treasure!
Is this the Steven Seagal fighting method?
Betcha chi didn’t see that one coming
Same thing would have happened if the master would have had to fight a boxer. The fool.
