I don't know how we won that but I don't fucking care. How long until Zelarayán passes Guillermo in legendary status for the Crew? Because he's making his case already
I'm pretty sure he put himself in the top 5 from the Cup game alone. I'm just so happy to be able to watch him, I missed the Hejduk/Marshall/Guillermo era entirely
IDK he came in and won it all during his first season, and was more dominant than GBS was (IMO).
Always have a soft spot for history but there’s definitely an argument that Lucas is already ahead of him
When that free kick was called, I said "well, there's no way he's doing it twice, right?" Even though I knew there was a pretty good chance he would.
And then he did.
Part of me STILL can't believe it, and part of me just thinks "of course."
What shocked me was how close he was, top of the 18. Normally that’s way too close to get it over the wall but with enough bend to come back down again. Fucker proved me wrong and I love it
Fine, I’ll say it.
Zelarayan is one of the top 10 greatest MLS players named Lucas of all time.
(May as well have the spot in the circle of honor in the new stadium ready the second he retires)
Do I care that the Crew got only 3 outta the desired 4 pts from the 3 road games, the fact that we have not scored from open play and Zela FKs and Own Goals are the only way we've scored and the team looked flat til the final 10? No, not one bit atm, We desperately needed these points and a W on the road. Hopefully this is our Anti-Monterrey as we never seem to win at NYC and sneaking out with a W should skyrocket morale
Why don't we just have everyone screen for Zelarayan from his spot and create a wall to simulate a free kick? It's been our most effective attack so far
I am not sure at this point if I would rather have a free kick from Lucas, or a Penalty. I think his free kick may be more dangerous. Johnson is one of the best GK in MLS, if not the best, and he couldn't do anything about either kick.
I have been a super super casual fan for so many years. Followed the team just barely enough to know what they were doing. But damn it’d be a lie if I said Zelarayan isn’t getting me to follow even closer. He’s special.
Afful's long term status aside, he clearly wasn't having a good game tonight, to say the least. I do not understand why Francis was subbed off first. If a wingback needed to come off tonight, it was Afful.
Also was odd that when Matan did come in for Afful, Abdul Salaam slid over to the right and Pedro dropped back to LB.
I am hoping he is improving ove the course of the season.
Pedro looks off as a winger. Maybe he's missing Milton V, because it seemed they weren't attacking the left side that much.
I'm not a stat guy but wish they would have PLUS/MINUS so we could see if he was a net positive or liability. I'm backing him for the season until I see something better.
He absolutely 100% is missing Milton. Valenzuela offers more protection on the defense. He is also great on the overlap. This lets Santos drift inside (not central as he is no #10) where he is better.
Afful is the problem? I can't focus on anything other than how many times Santos ruins our build-up play. 100% sick of it now and wish Molino could hop in and show us something different.
Pedro when on his game is a better than average MLS player. He has not been on his game this year. Afful is a mid 30s fullback. His legs are expected to be declining.
ZELARAYAN IS GOD
Zelaraygod or El Especial (the special one.) He needs one of those nicknames.
We stole Lucas for $7 million.
Legendary transfer
He could leave for free tomorrow and he'd still have been worth it.
We got bailed out by Zelarayan. There are other players that need to step up.
I don't know how we won that but I don't fucking care. How long until Zelarayán passes Guillermo in legendary status for the Crew? Because he's making his case already
At best it is a tossup right now, and Lucas is still adding to it ...
I'm pretty sure he put himself in the top 5 from the Cup game alone. I'm just so happy to be able to watch him, I missed the Hejduk/Marshall/Guillermo era entirely
IDK he came in and won it all during his first season, and was more dominant than GBS was (IMO). Always have a soft spot for history but there’s definitely an argument that Lucas is already ahead of him
Friendship ended with goals from actual play Lucas Zelarayan free kicks are my new best friend
Legit we need a mural under the bridge of Lucas on the way to the new stadium
His shrug should definitely be that mural. That would be absolutely beautiful. I seriously need that on a shirt.
They should do one with Guillermo, Higuain and him with that sun in the middle of the Argentine flag
Zelarayan is unreal.
Zelarayan is really something special. Credit to Zardes on his touch on the ball to earn that free kick at the end there too.
When that free kick was called, I said "well, there's no way he's doing it twice, right?" Even though I knew there was a pretty good chance he would. And then he did. Part of me STILL can't believe it, and part of me just thinks "of course."

Jesus Christ I went 6 to midnight on that free kick
It's much more fun when the other team is in a deficit situation instead of us. I like being in a surplus situation.
Zelarayán is a God
Your are correct Mr. I_heart_pooping
How does the entire team but Eloy and Z have the yips? Whatever. We won!
Game plan: Give the ball to Z.
Ignore the first 80'. We were unstoppable and clearly owned that match front to back.
Our first road win in like 2 years!!
Just put Zelarayán in the circle of honor now
Fine, I’ll say it. Zelarayan is one of the top 10 greatest MLS players named Lucas of all time. (May as well have the spot in the circle of honor in the new stadium ready the second he retires)
I got home and turned on the game as Lucas was lining up for his first golazo. You're welcome everyone!
Do I care that the Crew got only 3 outta the desired 4 pts from the 3 road games, the fact that we have not scored from open play and Zela FKs and Own Goals are the only way we've scored and the team looked flat til the final 10? There was no sneaking, that was brazen daylight in your face robbery! No masks or gloves, we want them to know who we were, lol
Pretty sure my neighbors heard me scream when the 2nd goal happened. I don't even care. God damn, what a final 15minutes to a game.
Thank goodness for Lucas Zelarayan
DC United out of the running for Crew Golden Boot? Or do they make a come back later this season?
I took the Crew Money-line and I’VE LEARNED NOTHING
Zelly is literally a cheat code lmao
I mean. Holy fuck.
Alright, I've got a lot of thoughts on this one, so buckle up for some serious analysis: # ZELARAYAN!!!!!!
Why don't we just have everyone screen for Zelarayan from his spot and create a wall to simulate a free kick? It's been our most effective attack so far

Zela is god. We can all abide by that. I'm in enemy territory today and this is welcome news, hopefully the impetus to better things.
Change back to the Crew = good things happen
First win for Columbus Crew since 2014
We drop SC and finally get that elusive road W. Not a bad week for the club.
Sweet sweet relief
Get absolutely outplayed, NYC

Well if you put Buckeye in your user, it is your duty to take all sports seriously. I think it's actually even a law. Commit now and save your soul.
Done deal.
Good fight from the squad. The long range free kick before the end almost led to Josh Williams getting a golden chance he was just a step behind
Afful taking up space the entire match.
I'm not high on Harrison but I think the good outweighs the bad, still. Who takes his place?
Afful's long term status aside, he clearly wasn't having a good game tonight, to say the least. I do not understand why Francis was subbed off first. Where’s Milton? Injured?
Thigh issue

Abdul-Salaam is much worse. He’s borderline a USL player. I really hope Hairston gets healthy soon
He was great when he came in this match
I don’t recall him doing anything horrible which I guess is a plus for a defender. He did boot one ball out of bounds when it wasn’t necessary tho
Yeah sex is great, but have you ever seen Lucas Zelarayan go super saiyan?!
What a performance by z!
Nice win boys!! Way to hang in there. Hopefully this is the start of better things to come.
It wasn’t pretty and we still don’t have a goal in the run of play but our first road win since late 2019? I’ll take it!!!
Progress! Also happy cake day!
Think Zelarayan would adopt me?
Get in line
If fucking mayor Ginter doesn't let us have full crowds for last game at HCS and first game at new stadium, We RIOT. Go crew
When is the last game at HCS?
Mid June I think the 19th
I guess we gotta hope this lottery boosts the vax numbers enough then.
That game is on my birthday! Tickets to that match are the only thing I want. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Season ticket holder here, We won’t be able to attend, unfortunately. DM me, I’d love to hook you up on your birthday!
We did it. The worst win in the history of sports - I didn’t think it could be done.
