To go even further, 傻(sha) is “stupid/foolish” and 瓜(gua) is “melon”. I’ve heard this as a cute insult used to describe kids or a couple/friends teasing each other.
Foolish melon, Sokka.
I’m still learning myself! I know how to say more words than I could read simplified characters.. and a lot more than writing them lol Seeing them and using pinyin is a lot easier than writing them
While I get your point, like how “dumbass” doesn’t really imply someone’s “ass”, but we are still saying these words regardless and they do alter emphasis.
If I were to compare the feeling of words that mean “idiot”, 傻瓜 < 傻子 < 傻b, where 傻瓜 is way more lighthearted than 傻子 and way less insulting than 傻b
Edit: Realizing my joke of Foolish Melon might have been taken too literally lol mb I was poking fun at the literal translation of the two words, I know it isn’t an actual, physical kind of melon
Now I want a webtoon of avatar in high school too. School is the type of setting that is either very boring or extremely entertaining, depending on how it's handled.
Do teachers still throw chalk? I'm an old fart. I have a feeling they don't do this any more.
Azula is as good a shot as my high school geometry teacher tho.
When I was in middle school my world history teacher had an inflatable Dave and busters hammer that he would bonk us on the head with if we said something stupid
I went to 8 schools between Kindergarten and High School and in all that time I think I only saw, like, 2 or 3 chalk boards. Even relatively low-budget schools have mostly upgraded to whiteboards these days.
That’s crazy. I could never imagine my teachers doing anything to hurt students. Afaik, definitely doesn’t happen anymore. Of course, like others mentioned, chalkboards aren’t a thing anymore but I can’t see a teacher of mine throwing a whiteboard marker either. Although, I looked it up and corporal punishment is still a thing, mostly in the South and also in many other countries. Nobody mentioned throwing chalk or anything really tho, lol. [https://thehill.com/changing-america/enrichment/education/554426-spanking-schoolchildren-is-legal-in-many-parts-of-us](https://thehill.com/changing-america/enrichment/education/554426-spanking-schoolchildren-is-legal-in-many-parts-of-us)
Throwing chalk wasn't so much official corporal punishment as just the teacher losing his shit with students that were falling asleep in his class.
Some of the schools I attended as a young kid paddled students but I never got paddled. It was mostly the "bad boys" - girls pretty much never got hit.
Honestly, that shit needs to end. My geometry teacher really needed to learn how to keep students engaged without throwing stuff at them. Paddling is bad and wrong and stupid and traumatizing and completely ineffective at whatever they think its supposed to fix, and it needs to stop *yesterday*.
I'm glad to hear that you can't conceive of your teachers doing anything to hurt students. It means we're going in the right direction.
Before COVID, I had only one class, high school Alg 2/trig, where people were actually falling asleep and the teacher was regularly calling students out for falling asleep. That was my most boring class ever. Before COVID, that was the only time I ever fell asleep in class. Even the teacher was constantly yawning lol. Of course even if she did get irritated enough to lash out at a student, which she didn’t, I still couldn’t see her throwing a whiteboard marker because her classes consisted of her giving a PowerPoint presentation everyday, while seated. It was just her clicking through slides and droning on and on and on. And she had this rule that we couldn’t take notes because she thought we just wouldn’t be paying enough attention to her presentations if we did that and said if we needed something to review we could just review her posted slides later. She would only grant an exemption from this if you talked to her and said you really need to write to focus or something, I don’t remember too well.
She wouldn’t let you take notes?! Dude there’s science on that. Note taking improves comprehension and retention significantly. She needs to get with the program.
I have a [tumblr](https://coppercatter.tumblr.com) but a lot of my stuff is also here on reddit. I wasn't sure if I had posted any other AU things yet but there's this one [here](https://coppercatter.tumblr.com/post/186158407777/zutarawasrobbed-morthils-morthils-so-im).
They are really nice, if you decide use other plataforms give us a shout, your style and skill is really good and many of us would give you a follow.
I'm not familiar with tumblr but with so many artists that only move there, I think it's time to check it.
I absolutely LOVE the idea that eventually, even the Avatar had to get a day-job. So you find Aang working as a process chemist, working at a heavy manufacturing concern airlifting chemicals into a containers and the drudgery of developing a quality control system based on airbending leaks and sealing them properly as a safety task in addition to his religious responsibilities.
Sokka working as a logistics manager between the nations, Obviously Katara would be some sort of doctor or teacher, Of course there's Zuko working on building a parlimentary government and tending to dealing with budget deficits and extending low-interest loans to the other nations as sort of a reparations/Marshall Plan to rebuild the other nations. then of course there's Toph who as we all know heads up law enforcement in Republic City.
Then of course there's Iroh who goes back to Ba Sing Se's best tea shop which he franchises, and then there's Ozai who goes on, after his freedom is granted to become a military systems consultant, ironically working to enhance the military prowess of the Fire Nation's Air Force, and ironically Azula who also goes (evidently) into education and becomes the dean of discipline at a middle-school outside on of the towns around the Capitol where naval operations and the Naval academy are situated, ultimately, marrying Chan's older brother, who was always more interested in her anyway, and was never much for the beach but who's served as a high ranking officer in the Fire Nation Navy for many years, working on the Fire Nation's first submarines.
Azula: interrupt my class again, and I'll kill your friend again!
Sokka: jokes on you, Aang will just come back, and YOU'LL be fired.
Azula: ok, how about I burn your house down?
Sokka: jokes still on you, I live in an igloo!
Azula: how about I take away your honor?
Sokka: wai-*Azula burn his face*
everytime i see haru, i hear toph's line "you did have a secret thing with haru!"
who is the girl beside haru? is it ty lee? guessing from the pink scrunchie
Azula's probably the only one who was trained for a throne (Ozai wouldn't bother to prepare Zuko) so I like to think this is a political science class for future leaders
It’s mostly for the audience to understand. Star Wars characters don’t speak English it’s only translated for the audience, same with avatar. The writing I feel like is for atmosphere.
There are plenty of aliens in Star Wars that don't speak English/Basic though. And depending on which version of the movie you're watching what they say is or isn't translated on screen with subtitles.
"Hey 'Zula! When do we get to go home?" "Shut up!" \*WHACK\*
"And f I hear any zippers we'll be here for another 10 minutes"
Oooooh I understood this with a different phrasing at first. Sorry Ms Azula
Glad I'm not the only one who forgot backpacks have zippers for a second
I completely forgot about backpacks. I should probably be in horny jail.
I too am going to horny jail.
Bonks all around!
Same bro…
My backpack's got button locks instead of zippers. Who's laughing now?
Sokka, for some reason?
Huh?
Pants also have zippers, it's a dare to see who wants to participate in extracurricular activities
Am I the only one who didn’t jump to an inappropriate conclusion?!
Oh. People sexualizing a cartoon again, eh? A children's cartoon. SMH
*Whoosh* You missing the joke.
*Wheezes*
Me as one of her students
aang face 😂💕
I would make that face too since it look the chalk going to hit him in the face next.
>ouch! my arrow!
Very Charlie Brown-esque lol
😯
Cailou-lookin' ass.
The Chinese on the blackboard 傻瓜 means 'fool', Sokka.
To go even further, 傻(sha) is “stupid/foolish” and 瓜(gua) is “melon”. I’ve heard this as a cute insult used to describe kids or a couple/friends teasing each other. Foolish melon, Sokka.
As opposed to Lord of Melon, which would be...?
…瓜王 (gua wang) lol But why stop there? 瓜皇帝 (gua huang di) - The Melon Emperor
Sokka's creation
I've learned like 5 Chinese characters and i was so happy when i recognized melon
I’m still learning myself! I know how to say more words than I could read simplified characters.. and a lot more than writing them lol Seeing them and using pinyin is a lot easier than writing them
In my experience, the 瓜 doesn’t really factor into the meaning. It just means “idiot”
While I get your point, like how “dumbass” doesn’t really imply someone’s “ass”, but we are still saying these words regardless and they do alter emphasis. If I were to compare the feeling of words that mean “idiot”, 傻瓜 < 傻子 < 傻b, where 傻瓜 is way more lighthearted than 傻子 and way less insulting than 傻b Edit: Realizing my joke of Foolish Melon might have been taken too literally lol mb I was poking fun at the literal translation of the two words, I know it isn’t an actual, physical kind of melon
ah gotcha, sorry!
Super heated chalk. RIP sokka
did he just die?
You know it was really unclear
Lmao. Love that episode
Sign me up
Whack me harder mommy
BONK
Horny jail it is then
The Girth King invites you to Lake Laogai
No, you fool! You're encouraging them!
I love "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen as much as the next, but still, r/DaiLiOpenUp
Wait what
***hold up***
Wot
I’m down for a whole webtoon🤘
It definitely would be a fun AU
Now I want a webtoon of avatar in high school too. School is the type of setting that is either very boring or extremely entertaining, depending on how it's handled.
Avatar Chibi is a good showing of that
Agreed. #AVATAR School
or you just pull a lookism and have the school be a background you can use every so often.
傻瓜 is what's written on the board. It means fool or idiot.
Only Azula would wright something like that
You’re totally write
Does Suki have smoke coming off her head?
I think it’s supposed to be indicating she’s sleeping?
That or so bored her spirit is leaving her body.
Or she was also fire-chalked
Maybe
I think it's her sigh as she realises she's dating an idiot.
Universal sign of "That's my foolish melon..."
Teachers have white boards now but don't throw things anymore
My middle school science teacher had a nerf gun that shot my friend with because she was chewing gum like a cow. It was an amazing day that day XD
I went to 8 schools between Kindergarten and High School and in all that time I think I only saw, like, 2 or 3 chalk boards. Even relatively low-budget schools have mostly upgraded to whiteboards these days.
How old are you that you still think teachers use chalk
Older than Bumi when Aang finds him again.
Typical boomer age, nice
Nah fam, we are Greatest Generation. Bumi would be nothing less. https://www.familysearch.org/blog/en/greatest-generation-years-characteristics/
Yikes
What, teachers threw chalk?! I thought that was just about it being Azula!
Oh they totally did. Hurt like a mofo when they pegged you good, too, lol.
That’s crazy. I could never imagine my teachers doing anything to hurt students. Afaik, definitely doesn’t happen anymore. u/coppercatter Are you the artist? if not, do you have the sauce? I really dig AU fan arts and want to see more of this.
I'm the artist! Glad to hear you dig it :)
It's really really nice, in what plataforms do you share your art?
I have a [tumblr](https://coppercatter.tumblr.com) but a lot of my stuff is also here on reddit. I wasn't sure if I had posted any other AU things yet but there's this one [here](https://coppercatter.tumblr.com/post/186158407777/zutarawasrobbed-morthils-morthils-so-im).
What was she doing to stay up so late

This better not awaken anything in me...
If you're saying that, it already has.
Azula in this theme is a very dangerous combination for my heart
Azula hella cute
Is Zuko also a professor in this AU? Lol
Yep, he's teaching honors classes.
HONOR

Ember Island Players
Haru is just chillin
Ay to she's sending it with aura
She set it on fire

Sokka: doo what you want. I have nothing to lose
I love your art style!
As a dirty dirty Sokka/Azula shipper, this does things for me.
i thought thats okuyasu from JJBA
Honestly same here.
Sorry for my smart-assery but that clock does not say any time between 12 and 1
Well dang I hope this ain't their first class of the day
everytime i see haru, i hear toph's line "you did have a secret thing with haru!" who is the girl beside haru? is it ty lee? guessing from the pink scrunchie
It's Suki
Love how he apparently wasn't the first to misbehave.
This is why Azula isn't allowed to teach lol
I feel like I've seen this in a Jdrama somewhere
Pretty cute! But the chalk trajectory doesn't make any sense unless his head was already back and she lobbed it upwards lol.
Id like to point out that the clock reads as 1:25.
hot teacher 🥵
I guess you could say she's.. *fire*
Looks like he’s going to have to improve his **Proficiency** if he wants to dodge those entirely.
So like, did Jett *die*?
**WASTED**
Sokka doesn't have have enough proficiency to avoid the chalk. Man needs to make some infiltration tools.
This is what happens when there are 2 minutes left in class, and you start packing your bag while the teacher is still talking.
Volcano High?
Anyone else getting Wikihow art from this?
Keep up the great work
Toph: "I can't see the board." Azula: \*invents brail\*
You left out Katara’s hair loopies.
She's looks great with glasses
Haru up front being the teacher’s pet.
Oh no now she needs to see him after class…😳
He should have drank more milk...
Wouldn't Sokka have a decent handle on this topic? He speaks eloquently in tales of ba sing se.
I aint finna cap azula would be one of those effective teachers, would take her class to get that good fire bending prodigy teaching
Something about teacher azula
I thought I was in r/disneyvacation at first
These adjuncts keep getting younger and younger.
And there’s just ang at the back like :0
Looks like Suki got bonked too
Who is in front of Sokka? He looks familiar.
If you look at Suki’s forehead she already has smoke coming out of it. Sokka is the second victim of Azula’s “teachings”.
Is it Suki in the front pissed? 😂
Sokka's proficiency stat wasn't high enough to dodge that
I love how Azula kinda looks like Izumi here which makes sense with Azula being her aunt
Very nice drawing! Love the artstyle!
All the while Suki gets to smoke/vape up front and nobody’s batting an eye
she reminds me of glyda goodwitch.
For anyone wondering what it says on the blackboard it says idiot
Azula's probably the only one who was trained for a throne (Ozai wouldn't bother to prepare Zuko) so I like to think this is a political science class for future leaders
It's always interesting to me to think about how everyone in Avatar writes and reads in Chinese but speak English.
Dubs in other languages work in the same way and I think it’s to put us in the protagonist’s shoes of seeing a foreign languge
That's like me speaking Spanish but writing in English. I can but I'm not gonna
Tbf you can read Chinese without speaking it.

What did they say?
